A quick browse on Youtube, and voila: a new mix found! It is that easy, and very simple. But it's tricky to separate the good ones from the bad/dodgy ones, or the ones without a tracklist. So I do spend some time on it, listening and looking at the info provided. No tracklist? No review. Simple AF. And today's mix has got everything right: a tracklist, glorious tracks, and good genre of music. Mixed by Hedonistik Ritual, who I mainly know of playing Freeform music. So it was nice to see and hear this mix...
And as weird as it might sound, I've never been to Ibiza. Yes, most of my 'friends' did go to Ibiza during the late 90s/early 2000s, but I didn't. My parents dragged me instead to Greece, which isn't bad either, but not a good place to go out clubbing (if your parents are there too). Sadly never been to Ibiza, but there's thousands of videos online, which make me question if going to Greece was a good or bad decision. It seems that Ibiza was (and is) the place to be.
But even though I've not been to Ibiza, I can imagine what kind of music would be played there. And looking at the tracklist I knew instantaneously that these were tunes that would be played out loud on this island. The tunes weren't exclusively played in Ibiza, as they were world wide dancefloor fillers, but yeah, they do have this Ibiza feeling surrounding them.
You are wondering which tracks I'm talking about? Well, time for me to show you the tracklist. It's a short one, but one that packs a punch!
Chicane feat Marie Bennan - Saltwater
Avatar & Atlantis - Fiji (Lange Remix)
Veracocha - Carte Blance
Push - Universal Nation (Ferry Corsten Remix)
Three Drives - Greece 2000
Matt Darey - Liberation (Ferry Corsten 1999 Remix)
Rank 1 - Awakening
Art Of Trance - Madagascar (Ferry Corsten Remix)
BBE - Seven Days And One Week
Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar (Three N One Remix)
Gouryella - Gouryella
William Orbit - Barber's Adagio For Strings (Ferry Corsten Remix)
Robert Miles - Children
A short, sweet, and powerful tracklist. And it's a good mix to listen to, if you want to go back in time, to the glorious years of the late 90s/early 2000s. Hedonistik Ritual has done a marvellous job, his selection is really good, and it seems that 260k+ listeners agree. The comments on this mix are really amazing, but I've got to agree.
But here comes the miserable Dutchman and his stupidity; I truly dislike Robert Miles' 'Children'. You cannot listen to a 90s radio station without it being played, or stream a 90s playlist, or listen to a 90s mix. This song is haunting me, and I believe that due to radio overkill this song has lost its strength (to me personally). When it was new, it was exciting, but now it's just one of those records you just don't want to hear for a few years, to like it again.
And also Ferry Corsten's remix of 'Universal Nation'. Nothing, and I mean nothing can top the original, which is an all-time Trance classic.
But now the positives. The tracks are good though. Yeah, not 'Children', but all the others are. And another thing that you have to acknowledge: during the 90s and early 2000s, Ferry Corsten dominated everything. Whatever he touched, turned into Gold. Be it alone, or with Tiesto (as Gouryella). In this mix, his version of William Orbit's 'Barber's Adagio For Strings' is just sublime.
A very enjoyable set by Hedonistik Ritual. Really enjoyed it. And it makes me want to go to Ibiza right now, and experience what millions of people experienced before me.
