Benji B - The 2018 Mixtape Part One
I have to come clean, before I go on and on, talking rubbish. I do not listen to BBC Radio 1. Many moons ago I did, but since I moved from NL to the UK I have not listened to it once. I'm a Soundcloud/Mixcloud addict, and rather play my music at my pace. But what if I found something that combines the two things together? A mixtape on Soundcloud, taken from a BBC Radio 1 show, presented by Benji B? That's exactly what you are about to listen to, if you haven't already.
I've seen the name Benji B before, but I am unfamiliar with his work. I don't know how I came across this, but someone must have reposted it. Otherwise I would have never found it. It's obviously a mixtape (see the image above, yes kids, that's a tape). And the music on this mixtape is absolutely MINDBLOWING! I was NOT expecting a mixtape like this one!
This contains the finest records of 2018. This year has gone passed me, when it comes to music. I only listened to the music I liked, so missed out on a lot of ''other'' music, like Hip Hop, Grime, and 'pop' music. I am still shocked by the quality of the tunes selected: I thought the music on the radio was shite, but I was wrong.

There are some SERIOUS monster anthems in here! I should listen to more Jazz, Soul, Grim, Hip Hop music. I'm missing out on too damn much.
But it's never too late to enjoy excellent music. And the way this mixtape has been composed reminds me of the good ol' days, when you had to record the song and try to skip the DJ/presenter. So it's not smooth like an other mix you are used to. But if you like GOOD music, this is a good radio show/episode!
You get everything in 2 hours, from Grime to Hip Hop to Jazz to Soul. And the amount of excellent songs is amazing! Mind blowing stuff. Especially the songs that touch your soul, like 'Young' by Buddy, 'bless ur heart' by serpentwithfeet, 'Will You Sing' by Kamasi Washington, but the one that took my breathe away is 'Me&My (To Bury My Parents)' by Andre 3000! This Outkast member is mostly known for making one of the worst (and catchiest) songs ever, but with this soulful song he talks about a very difficult episode in each and everyone's: the passing of parents. So much feel in this song.
A wicked mixtape. Can't wait for the second instalment!
