M.I.K.E. Push - Live @ A State Of Trance Festival Utrecht (27/02/2016)

If you think of classic Trance, one of the first names that spring to mind, is M.I.K.E. Push. This Belgian legend has been active since 1992, and has been giving us music for many years. This man knows a lot about making good music: the top three records of his back catalogue are genuinely seen as the best of the best, of all time: Universal Nation, Strange World, and of course The Legacy. I can only assume that, whoever is asked to compose a top 10 list of all time favourite Trance anthems, would pick at least one of these three records made by M.I.K.E Push. Or maybe all three. This shows how great of a producer he is.

He's also a great DJ, and back in 2016 he was asked to play at A State Of Trance. And will you Adam and Eve it: this set is on his Soundcloud page, and it's live: the crowd can be heard clearly. This is always an added bonus. You can always tell if a set is much appreciated when you heard the crowd scream and whistle constantly. If my ears do not lie, I can hear the crowd throughout M.I.K.E. Push's whole set, non stop. But truth be told, he has picked the finest records, and to top it all of: he has selected his three biggest anthems of all time, the ones I mentioned before.

The set is an hour long, and has got 10 records in it. This obviously means that you can full extended version, no short radio edits. And boy, when the music comes in to play, you will immediately be transported to Trance Heaven! Just look at the tracklist, and you will know why I am reviewing this set right now. 4 years too late, but at least I'm reviewing it.

02. Plastic Boy - Silver Bath

03. Solar Factor - Urban Shakedown

07. Dimension - Mangata

08. Sean Mathews - Paradise (Giuseppe Ottaviani Remix)

09. Push - The Legacy

10. Marcel Woods - Advanced

Sweet baby Jesus. I wasn't ready for this full on Trance adventure on this glorious yet windy Sunday morning. This is a glorious set, I must admit. And you will know the set is going to be great, when you do look at the tracklist alone. Fuck me sideways, this is pure Trance. This is what I like to call Trance. Many people have got different opinions about it, but in hindsight, we are all allowed to have an opinion. But if you are thinking of making a classic Trance mix, you have to choose these records. All 10 anthems selected by Mike are genuinely the best out there.

Everyone might have a different opinion about which record is the best in Mike's mix. And I fully understand that you might disagree with my choice, but I do not choose any of the three classic anthems by Push. My personal favourite is Solar Factor's 'Urban Shakedown'. I remember hearing it for the first time during Tiesto's big concert, and I have been loving it ever since. If you are thinking 'this record sounds a lot like a M.I.K.E. Push record', you are not lying: it is made by him.

The legend has delivered an excellent set. Only credits for this set. And you can also download this from Soundcloud. It's like Christmas has come early for me this year. This will go on constant repeat for today. He could have easily played for longer, he is that big of a legend. But this hour at ASOT750 is just sheer madness. So cool to hear the classics again. I do miss the early sound a lot.
