A Nightmare in Rotterdam, Part 2 in the Mix (2026)

It's only Monday, but it certainly feels like a Thursday or Friday. It's been such a manic and hectic day, I cannot believe the weekend is behind me. A weekend full of Soul, House, and more blissful music, and now I'm sucked back into reality, with a lot of work. Thankfully I'm WFH, so I can listen to whatever I please. And today's mix is certainly one which has full energy from the start. Not one with Soul, Funk or House. But a full on Hardcore mix, with tracks from back in the day! The glorious 90s!

And as you can tell from the image above, the focus lies with Rotterdam. Not so much the actual physical city, but more the sound that came out of it, and dominated the Netherlands, and beyond. During the 90s I was an avid fan of this sound, and this mix has got a lot of those records. They all bring a huge smile on my face, and as I needed some energetic music, the obvious choice was this mix, right?

Someone shared this mix on Soundcloud, and I was immediately drawn towards it. The cool image, and the legendary words 'A Nightmare In Rotterdam'. I have never been to one of those events, but did buy a few of these CDs. And I really liked them. DjBladeNL made this mix, and it's a nice and compact mix. I did add the two others he has released on my watchlist, and was going to do the first mix, but it did not come with a tracklist, hence why I've chosen the second one. But it is still worth checking out.

As you can see, these are not all tracks made in Rotterdam or made by people from Rotterdam, but these were tracks that worked well in Rotterdam, or just had that specific sound, distinctive R'dam sound. I cannot describe what that sound is, but if you know, you know.

This is a very glorious mix, and I really enjoyed it. Just enough oomph to keep me going. DjBladeNL has picked some wicked records, and they all have this distinctive Rotterdam sound. The woofer sound, the distorted kicks etc. Love it a lot. It has enough power to get me through today and the next few days.

It's a nice mixture of artists in this mix. The tracks as diverse, and when 'People' hits, that's when you know they mean business. What an underrated classic.
