A Tribute To Jump [2] (2024)

Silvio Aquila, the man who made this mix, asked a question on Soundcloud, and it's a ridiculous question. One that should not even be asked. His question is 'Do you think jumping is a crime?'. Of course it isn't. What kind of question is that? But it does look a tad silly, that I have to acknowledge. But jumping nor Jumpstyle should be considered a crime, as it has made me very happy when I was younger. Maybe my 'anger' toward the silly dance is the fact that I couldn't do it, nor did I have the patience to learn it. Ah well, whatever the reason is, I know it's justifiable.

But Jumpstyle is awesome. Last year, I found his first instalment, and this month he released his second mix in his Jump focussed mix series. And it has indeed brought back many memories, and not just the dance (let's forget about the silly jumping, and let's focus on the music, shall we?). It was around that time that I started to be a member of the tuning community, and 'pimped' out my car with a much better stereo system. One that literally blew my rear windscreen to pieces. Better speakers, better subwoofer and everything. And Jumpstyle fitted right in, as the bass was on point.

And you will find a lot of those bass driven records in Silvio's latest mix. And my current car might not have the same sound power as my first car, but it's still capable of trembling my windows ferociously. And my neighbours know when I'm coming home, as I'll be loud enough to wake them all up.

Jumpstyle is awesome. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The music might not have been as rough and tough as Hardcore/Gabber or anything else, but it still made ravers dance until the break of dawn. And I was one of those. And to find a mix that can take me back to Belgium, in which I've spent many nights.... that's a great thing, right?

Wow. Trip down memory lane! I forgot about a few of these records, but now they are back on my radar again, and this time, I'll make sure I won't forget them.

Silvio made a very interesting mix with certainly very intoxicating anthems. Thankfully it's not filled with the commercial rubbish, which was also released around the same time. But these are the anthems you would play, if you had a fantastic sound system. I was one of those, and hearing these songs again, makes me miss my epic system even more.

This should bring a smile on everyone's faces when they discover these gems again. Or, if they weren't around when this dominated my world, they could be introduced to a whole 'new' genre of music. A great one. And maybe they will invest in a big sound system and drive everyone mad?

I love Jumpstyle, and I love that I keep on finding mixes, and they all take me back in time. And if you've got 'Chapter One' by Binum in it, you know the mix will be great. It's not flawless, but decent enough to give it a go. Listen and enjoy what I grew up with.

Even though I love 'Chapter One', 'Control Your Body' stood out for me the most. Big anthem, hard hitter.
