I am probably the whitest person on Earth, and I'm not lying. But as white as I might be, I do love a bit of Hip Hop / Rap. Especially the early stuff. Not sure about the present day Hip Hop, have lost interest many years ago when it became too commercial. But when I was a young lad, I grew up listening to everything, and even Hip Hop was played when I was a teenager. My dad even took back from the States several Hip Hop CDs, ones you would never see in the Netherlands at all!
I used to be a kid who did not listen to lyrics, but feeling the vibes was more my thing. I seriously keep finding out hidden innuendos in records, that everyone else knows about, except me. But what I am saying is, that the lyrics never mattered to me. As long as the groove is good and I can bop my head to it, I love it. Now in 2020 the world is changing, and even I have grown much more mature, and hear lyrics more clearly. Well, I still find it difficult to create a story with the lyrics: some of these MCs go damn fast. How do you expect me to listen and understand each sentence?
Anyway, this mix. It's made by DJ Fly. And it does contain Hip Hop / Rap anthems. I had to Google DJ Fly, but it turns out he's a multiple award winning DJ, even having the DMC World Championship title twice. So he knows a thing or two about scratching. And it turns out he loves Hip Hop, so this mix should be good!
Check the tracklist. This is proper music.

I have to say that DJ Fly's selection is tight. A lot of extremely big names in his mix. Even a few I've forgotten about. And the added bonus you do get is that every so often, DJ Fly starts to scratch, and it just works beautifully. Well, he didn't win the World title for no reason, eh?
As good as the records and the artists might be, I do have this feeling for Eric B & Rakim's voices and the way they rhyme. Their two records in Fly's mix are my favourite: who doesn't love 'Don't Sweat The Technique'?
Don't get me wrong, every other artist has had a huge impact in the scene, and I do like 99% of them (don't like Mystikal, his voice sounds too raw). When it comes to the beats, 'Round & Round We Go' by Daz Dillinger wins it, followed by everything by Wu Tang Clan. But Eric B & Rakim are just Kings.
This mix has made me go nuts for the early Hip Hop sound. Not the stupid mumble rap or the top 40 Hip Hop. I am certainly going to check out DJ Fly's other mixes on Soundcloud, and so should you. This isn't a standard TCD mix, but as you know: I love every kind of music. And yes, this white boy even likes Hip Hop.
