Ravert - Klassieke Klappers 2008 Part I (Hardstyle Classics) (2024)

Sunday! One day closer to Christmas. But as we did focus on the festive season and reviewed a mix which was solely dedicated to Christmas, today we ain't going to do that. We are going back in time, to 2008. Ravert, the man behind the mix, made a mix dedicated to 2008 and the glorious Hardstyle anthems that were released in that year. This is part one, so expect more to come. But for now, we focus on the first mix, and it being 2 hours long with 42 records, it's a big pill to swallow. But see this more as a paracetamol and not Vicodin. A pleasant pill.

I am a Hardstyle fanatic, and have spent many hours listening to it. I think that (for me) 2008 was a fantastic year. A lot of the tracks in this mix are very memorable to me. And they've also stood the test of time. Whereas the majority of current anthems are easily forgettable, not when it comes to the anthems from 2008. Go to any party where they play Hardstyle, and they will certainly play a few from 2008. If not, it's a shitty party.

I remember going to my local CD store and purchasing whatever was available. I was so much into Hardstyle, no other style really could compete with the sheer power of it. Don't get me wrong, Gabber, Trance and UK Hardcore were still in my top 10, but Hardstyle was everything to me. And to see so many great songs in one mix, that just made my day!

This certainly made my heart beat faster. So many big anthems are in here, which also underline the fact that 2008 was a tremendous year. I still miss a few records, but hopefully they will appear in the second instalment of Ravert's mix.

A great selection of anthems. It's nice to hear these songs again. And there are some tremendously insane, timeless classics in here. Of course you can have a whole debate which is the biggest song of 2008. Was it Frontliner's 'Spacer', or was it 'Rage' by Technoboy? Headhunterz also did a lot of damage back in the day. But to me, the most underrated and most powerful anthem was the one made by A-Lusion, which was called 'Veritas'. I do adore that record with every fibre in my body.

It's this kind of Hardstyle I do miss a lot. This sound is so refreshing to hear again. No piep kicks or any short shitty edits, but pure unadulterated anthems. Time to build up to a fantastic climax, and thousands of ravers loosing their minds of the dancefloors. It might have been more euphoric back in the day, but that's exactly what I miss. I miss the character building within each song. Now it's just quick build up and shitty short edits, but back then, the producer took you on a journey. And they were pleasant journeys.

A brilliant mix by Ravert. A few minor mistakes, but nothing to write home about. Go and check out this mix, and wait for the second instalment. Hopefully it's going to be as good, or even better!
