90s R&B Classics (The Roundhouse Mix) - 26-05-24

It is Monday. And the weekend we just had was a very nice one. The weather was great, and the temperatures hopefully will go up soon. It is the Summer of 2024, so anything can happen. But we should prepare ourselves for a nice Summer. Those 2 days will be glorious. And if you are of a certain age, (above 30 years old), you want something to get you going, and listen to when the BBQ is lit up, and the drinks are flowing. Have I got something special for you all, one mix I wasn't ready for, but now I am totally into it.

The 90s were glorious years. If you experienced the 90s, you know exactly how I feel, and that it's difficult to describe how awesome it was. I was only a young lad, but still did I enjoy the decade. The music was ace, and R&B/Hip Hop music dominated the charts all over the world. And I went to many bars/clubs/discos where this was played. And even dodgy student venues. And as I'm the whitest person on Earth, I haven't got the moves, or any grooves. But R&B created a spark inside of me, and made me dance. Dance like a whale, but still. And it was so damn good.

Had no one to dance with in the 90s, but I couldn't care less.

The music has got many memories attached to it. Each song has been heard a million times, and they have become classics. The present day Hip Hop/R&B isn't my cup of tea, I don't get the hype at all. To me, the 90s were the best years. Come on, just scroll a bit down and check out the tracklist for this mix. A mix made by a regular to this website, Craig Scott.

I love the innocence behind each record. They are radio friendly records, and you've probably heard these a million times over the years. But they remain powerful enough that you don't resent them. You cannot detest these records, never.

But which records are we going to listen to, during the Summer of 2024?

  1. Montell Jordan - Get It On Tonite

  2. Brandy - I Wanna Be Down

  3. Next - Too Close

  4. Ashanti - Rock Wit U

  5. Mario - Let Me Love You

  7. After 7 - Can't Stop

  8. Groovy Theory - Tell Me

  11. Blu Cantrell - Breathe

  12. SWV - Right Here

  13. Aaliyah - Back & Forth

  14. Adina Howard - Freak Like Me

  20. Mary J Blige - Family Affair

  32. Destiny's Child - Bugaboo

  33. Lucy Pearl - Don't Mess With My Man

  34. Zhane - Hey Mr DJ

  35. Kelly Rowland - Work

Oh the memories. I've got plenty, and they all involve me being in clubs, when I was a teenager. The amount of time I spent in them is insane, but it was worth it. And the music was dope. Not all the songs in this mix made their way into DJ sets, but they were still everywhere. On many compilations, and as mentioned, on many radio stations. Cruising down the motorway with the windows down, volume to the max, and enjoying the sunshine... life was great.

These were the songs that dominated my youth. And Craig Scott's selection is like he knew the songs were my favourite ones. It's like this mix was made for me. Unfortunately, it wasn't, but it is still amazing to hear these all in a 2 hour long set. Great selection.

Lot of sensual songs, and as I was single most of the time, I had no one to dance with. So when these sensual songs were played in clubs, I always went to the bathroom or the bar. But when Missy Elliot, Fugees, Notorious BIG, Mark Morrison, Mary J Blige, and more came on, that's when the dancefloor got lit. Hands in the air! Hell yeah. If I close my eyes now, I am back on the dancefloor. I know exactly where, when, and what I was drinking. Good times.

R&B is such a fantastic genre of music. Nothing that is in the top 40 nowadays can compete with these songs and the overall atmosphere it generated.

Best record? Boy, there are too many, but if I had to pick, it has to be Janet's song ''That's The Way Love Goes''. Very sensual song, probably her best song ever.

A solid mix, and one you should favourite, or save in a playlist. The Summer is about to happen, so be prepared: buy that meat, put it in the freezer, buy all the drinks, get those snacks... but don't worry about the music, Craig has got your back!
