A Tribute To Shockers (2022)

Shockers, do you remember Shockers? Did you go to a Shockers event, or did you purchase one of the CDs? I am one of those people, and I do certainly miss the Shockers series. Can't remember if I did go to a Shockers event, might have done? I've drank so much alcoholic beverages throughout the late 90s and early 2000s, I might have gone to parties, but completely out of this world. Now I'm older (and wiser, I think), and I can look back at this glorious brand. A brand focussed on Techno music during the first years, and slowly transitioning to other harder styles, such as Hard Trance, Hard House, and of course, Hardstyle.

Last year I got rid of 99.9% of my CDs, as there's no need for them anymore. Stored them all on a hard drive, but even though I don't own them anymore, I do know exactly which ones I had and didn't. And with the Shockers compilation, I know I didn't own them all. Should I be ashamed? Well, maybe. Maybe not. But what I do know, is that the ones I did own, I adored. I played them over and over, and they became so ruined, scratches literally were everywhere!

I was contacted via social media by Silvio Aquila, who I've reviewed before, mentioning the fact that he's uploaded a brand spanking new mix, focussed on the Shockers compilation and the legacy it left behind (and it certainly left a huge gap behind). Obviously, I had to jump on it straight away, as I'm a sucker for the early Millennium sounding Techno and other harder styles. So that's exactly what I did, hence why you are reading this review as we speak.

If he didn't mention his latest mix, I would have missed it, and that would have been a disgrace. I needed a bit of Shockers, and was happy to find this (and listen to it). 2 hours of Shockers, 2 ours of madness. Are you ready for it?

What a tracklist! A good selection by Silvio. But that's to be expected. This compilation was (and still is) a huge collection to own. And music was always better back in the days, am I right?

This mix is a good one. I've enjoyed it a lot, and have played it over and over multiple times already. But that's not something you wouldn't expect of me: anything that reminds me of the Millennium years will be played over and over. Why? Because I'm a sucker for music from my youth.

A solid selection, and this raises another question: what do you prefer? Techno, Hardstyle, Hard Trance, or Hard House? Which style did you prefer the most from around the year 2000? My background is Hardcore, so you would expect the hardest of them all, but I do love the Hard Trance sound from back in the day.

And when 'Fuck U Up' started playing, I lost the plot. My God, completely forgot about this tune! What a slammer. They don't make tracks like this one anymore. What a wicked tune!

At first, when I pressed play, I was a tad disappointed. Hearing 'The End'. What a dreadful song imho, but after this initial hurdle, the tracks only became better and better.

A solid mix, really enjoyable, and downloadable! So what else is there to wish for?
