The people in Glasgow always get the finest events. Last year they had a party called 'History Of Hardcore;, and the line-up looked good, as you can see. One of the biggest DJs on the line-up was DJ Buzz Fuzz, all round nutjob, but a Hardcore legend since the early 90s. Sadly, due to issues with his flight, he couldn't come. So they had to get a replacement DJ, and DJ Smurf was available. You know him, the blue guy. He took over, and did the DJ justice: he played the set that Buzz Fuzz supposed to do, filled with Buzz Fuzz records.
DJ Smurf is obviously a legend too, and I don't think that anyone had an issue for him to step up, and take Buzz Fuzz's place. They still got their Buzz Fuzz dosage. So when I say dosage, I mean that the whole set was filled with records by this all time legend. I'm not sure how many records he has made, but it's a shit ton he has been making since the 90s. And his records dominated throughout those glorious years. Even when Hardcore was still kept alive, he was at the forefront of Hardcore.
I can name all the big hits he has made, but I think we are all aware of the big anthems Buzz Fuzz has made. We do love his music. And if you remember his Wappie column in the Thunder Magazine, we all know he was a weird person. But someone with a passion for Hardcore. To see all these anthems being squeezed into an hour long mix is always good. Buzz Fuzz is a legend, but so is DJ Smurf, for stepping up, and taking Buzz Fuzz's place. Big boots to fill, but he did it.
The tracklist is a thing of beauty. So here it is:
Tony Salmonelli feat Buzz Fuzz - Class Axion Take 4
Buzz Fuzz - Freedom
Lenny Dee - The Dreamer (Buzz Fuzz Remix)
Human Resource - Dominator (Buzz Fuzz Remix)
Buzz Fuzz - Men Of Teflon
Buzz Fuzz - Dreamgirl (Original)
Bertocucci Feranzano - XTC Love (Original Mix)
Bertocucci Feranzano & Tony Salmonelli - Class Axion Take 2
Buzz Fuzz - Frequencies
Buzz Fuzz - Drop The Pressure
Buzz Fuzz - Jealousy (Is A Motherf#cker)
Chosen Few - Name Of The DJ (Buzz Fuzz Remix)
3 Steps Ahead - It's Delicious (Buzz Fuzz Mix)
Oh, it's so great to hear these anthems again! The good ol' days, eh? His music inspired me and has given me a lot of goosebumps throughout the 90s. So many memorable anthems. This man was an anthem machine! Obviously the most 'well known' one has to be XTC Love, but is it Buzz Fuzz's best one? Is it the best one selected by Smurf?
Nope. But it was difficult. Buzz Fuzz has made a lot of awesome records, and it was hard to choose from. The two I have selected are my personal favourites of this mix, but not my all time Buzz Fuzz favourite anthem (that has got to be D-Leria). So which two did I find awesome? 'Frequencies' of course, and 'Jealousy'. Boy, you can play that at any event nowadays, and the crowd will loose their shit. I remember hearing them during the 90s at the raves I've been to, and it would be a climatic moment.
I did love Smurf's set. Not focussed on his own music or style, but someone else's style. That's cool. He did Buzz Fuzz proud (I reckon). He has earned the title 'Blue Fuzz'. And if you were at the party, you must have had a wicked time! Not just with the Blue Fuzz playing, but also all the other Hardcore legends.
Guess what? It's also a free download! So jump on it, and download this sick mix!
