Fer-D - Bonzai Records Mix vol. 1 (2022)

Thursday has landed, and me and the wife are currently working in our 'new' office. When I say new office, I mean new house, which we've turned one bedroom into an office. And obviously I cannot immediately start playing 'my' music, as in very loud and obnoxious Hardcore music. I have to ease her into my sound. So let's start her off with some music from the 90s, from one of the biggest labels in Belgiums history: Bonzai Records. A much loved, respected, and adored label, that has had the biggest releases to this day on this mighty fine record. And those records have stood the test of time.

Bonzai Records has to be one of the finest record labels to have ever been created. You might agree or disagree. Whatever your decision is. I'll happily support it. But what you've got to realise, and underline, is the importance of this Belgian label. Starting back in 1992, this label has been at the forefront of many new genres, like Techno, Trance, Hard Trance, Goa Trance, and more. They have released many epic anthems on this label by many well loved artists, such as Yves de Ruyter, Jones & Stephenson, Push, Da Hool, DJ Bountyhunter, Dream Your Dream, Thunderball, Phrenetic System, and the list goes on and on.

And guess what? Well, Fer-D made this appreciation mix, with a handful of records pushed into an hour long mix. 18 records to be precise. I can't for the life of me remember which mix he did recently, which I also reviewed, but let's focus on his latest mix. The Bonzai mix. It's a gorgeous one. A very mind pleasing one. And again, you might dislike the label, which is OK, but the importance of the songs cannot be understated. And Fer-D has picked 18 records that might give you enough of an energy boost for today. Can't wait for volume 2, curious to hear what he's going to put in his second mix.

I really love the selection by Fer-D. A lot of wicked classics. All jammed into one mix. And it's certainly one mix that keeps us on our toes. And it keeps us moving. But are these 18 tracks the finest from this majestic label? Are they the best of the best? That's for you to decide.

But for me, they aren't. Yes, sure, they are classics. I'm not saying they are crap, but they aren't the best. I might be a tad biased, but I do prefer the biggest hits. You know the ones I'm talking about. The big, very big hits. The ones that were played over and over in clubs and discos and parties all over the world. Those hits.

But, in all honesty, I would still dance my ass off if these were played in the clubs today. And I might have done in the late 90s/early 2000s. I simply can't remember, because of a certain liquid demolishing my brain cells. A drink I call Red Bull and Vodka. Or beer. Just alcoholic beverages. They made me forget a lot of awesome nights.

Fer-D's mix is a very cool one. And I really enjoyed it. It's an hour of the maybe underrated songs from the label, but the label has had many records, so this is only a small selection. Still awesome though. A cool selection, and it certainly got me moving. I can't wait for volume 2, or even volume 3. Can't wait to hear more of these Bonzai Records' songs. They are just so ace.
