Happy Hardcore 1994-1999 (2020)

Sunday. The day of our Lord, if you are a religious person. If not, it is still a Sunday, and it's been one hell of a week. I hope that everyone had a brilliant time, and I hope next week will be another wicked week. Just think about it: only a few days until Christmas, right? Just count down to anything, and your life becomes happier, and slightly more exciting. Me and the wife are currently going through exciting times, but I cannot share it yet with you all. So it'll be a surprise. But what I can tell you, is that I'm happier, happier than I've ever been before!

To accommodate my happiness, I have to listen to something suitable. Something similar to the mood I'm currently experiencing. And me being a raver, it led me straight to Happy Hardcore. So guess what mix I'm reviewing? You are correct, dear sir/madam! A Happy Hardcore mix I found on YouTube. The one who made this mix is called James. And James' mix contains the happiest, cheesiest, and most uplifting tunes from my childhood. From 1994 to 1999 I was full into Happy Hardcore, and to me it was life. Happy Hardcore was literally everything and everyone had to hear the music coming out of my speakers. I must have annoyed a few neighbours here and there, but I was a teenager and couldn't care less!

It was an accident. Don't even know why I found this mix, but I'm happy that I did. These are exactly those songs I grew up with, and made my own. As it, they became part of my youth, and when I think of myself being a teenager, these are the songs that are close to my heart. This is me, in a nutshell.

This is only a short mix, so it's quite easy and straight forward, typing this tracklist. So here we go:

  1. Lipstick - I'm A Raver

  2. Nakatomi - Children Of The Night (XXL Version)

  3. DJ Paul Elstak - Luv U More

  4. Tokyo Ghetto Pussy - I Kiss Your Lips

  5. Happymen - Love Is You (Happy Mix)

  6. Critical Mass - Happy Generation

  7. DJ Paul Elstak - Rainbow In The Sky

  8. 4 Tune Fairytales - Take Me 2 Wonderland (Extended Mix)

  9. Charly Lownoise & Mental Theo - Stars

  10. 4 Tune Fairytales - My Little Fantasy (Extended Version)

  11. Interactive - Forever Young

  12. Brisk & Vinylgroover - Freedom 2 Dance (Triple-J Remix)

  13. 2 Brothers On The 4th Floor - Fairytales (Extended Version)

  14. Dune - Hand In Hand

  15. Nakatomi - Sing

  16. Ravers Choice - Techno Wonderland (Remix)

Out of the 16 songs in this mix, only 1 wouldn't be considered a classic anthem I grew up with. Guess which one it would be? You are correct, 'Freedom 2 Dance'. It isn't because I dislike Brisk or Vinylgroover, but I was simply more into Euro Cheese. If that makes any sense, I'm happy I made sense...

The tracklist looks good, and the tracks sound extraordinarily good, even in 2022. Those tracks have stood the test of time, that's for sure. And they have made me even more happier, if that's even possible. I'm feeling young again, and not old and brittle.

James, the one who made this mix, has selected great songs. I cannot judge him for that. The selection of records is truly great, and as cheesy as they might be, they are still solid records. Solid as a rock. Yes, they might be cheesy but it's exactly what I needed to hear today.

The mix itself has got some ups and downs. It's not 100% perfect, and it ain't flawless. I wish it was more smooth, and flawless. I would have given it a 5 out of 5 stars, but unfortunately I cannot. It's not perfect. The transitions could have been executed better.

But still, the tracks made me smile, and what else is there to comment about? The tunes make me smile, and I hope they make you smile too!

Best record? Oh, that's a daunting task, to decide... but I have to go with 'I Kiss Your Lips' by Tokyo Ghetto Pussy. A song that ALWAYS makes me smile!
