Yesterday was an alright day. It was made alright due to the fact that I spoke to the only two Dutch doctors in the hospital. And you can say whatever you like, but you instantly have a connection with someone who was born in your motherland. So I was in a full-on Dutch mode. After waking up at stupid o'clock today, I turned on the computer, and voila! There was a mix, one of the first, focussed on the Netherlands. Specifically the Dutch language (and also the music). And it made me a bit happier. Or am I happy due to the medication? Whatever it might be, who cares?
Zany is a well known name in the Harder scene. He has proven himself over the years to be one of the established names. Hence why they asked him to play at X-Qlusive Holland this year. And as some kind of afterparty he composed this mix, containing ONLY Dutch music (Hollandse kost). And seeing as I was born there and speak the lingo, I knew it was going to make me laugh out loud. If you are not a Dutch speaking person, you don't have a clue why boerenkool or Ome Henk are funny.
If you can find a mix more Dutch than this one, good luck. Not really music to get me raving for hours on end, more like appreciated during the Dutch carnival season. But today I wanted to feel my connection with my motherland again, so here we go. The tracklist is already on its own funny as fuck.

The cheese factor has gone through the roof. And I chuckled several times through this mix. It's so funny to hear these records. In London, there aren't many who are Dutch, and listen to Dutch Hard style music. I reckon when I listen to this in the car with the windows down, people will give me a look, and wonder what kind of weird music it is.
Some records are serious. And some are just funny. But the general gist is that the people listening to this, or went to X-Qlusive should just have fun. Not bothered about the world outside. We Dutch people do like to party (some might agree that we are the originators of partying), and this kind of music does get the people going, old or young. Not limited to one type of person. And it's funny.
It's Hard style music, but I think the majority of people would type this mix as Freestyle. Play everything you want, as long as you are having fun. And even though the lyrics or the vocals might be absolutely bonkers to the core, the general gist is that once the beat and basses kick in, we all start dancing. And Zany's mix does exactly that.
My favourite record has got to be 'FTS'. Brilliant take by Jason Payne on this classic and very memorable anthem by Showtek. This is just pure genius, talking about boerenkool. It made me chuckle. Credits to Jason for creating a very brilliant and unusual remix. Don't think I have ever heard anything like this before.
Yes, as I said before, the cheese factor is high. And normally I'm not bothered about this, but today it seemed appropriate for me to listen to this. And today I really enjoyed Zany's mix.
