It's Ya Birthday Mix (2020)

A few weeks ago I discovered a brand new mix by Selectabwoy. It is one that I sadly missed when it was released 5 months ago. It was his girlfriend's birthday, so a belated birthday wish to Caro seems to be in place. And I'm guessing she's also a fan of old skool Hip Hop and Rap. If she isn't, Selectabwoy is fucked. But he wouldn't make that mistake, would he? I wouldn't. I would make other mistakes, but nothing related to my wife's favourite music style.

Anyway, happy birthday Caro. It's cool to hear a special mix made for her. The intro is ace, and the next 1 and 10 ish minutes it's just ace too. Not the stupid present day 'Hip Hop' or whatever they call it, but only the finest 'old' Hip Hop and Rap. The music that I grew up with, and really appreciated. Not every track was my cup of tea, but Hip Hop has always been in my life. Even though I was too young to understand the real reasoning behind each song and the meaning of the lyrics. I am probably the whitest person on Earth that listens to Hip Hop music. And another issue that I've got, is the fact that I never listen to lyrics. I do mean never. It's the beat and bass that keeps me going.

But for this birthday mix Selectabwoy decided to play the big hitting records, the ones that get the crowd going. The big names are in this mix. Let me just highlight a few names, just a few: Mos Def, Snoop Dogg, The Notorious B.I.G., LL Cool J, NWA, Nas, Lauryn Hill, Ice Cube, Wu-Tang Clan, and the list goes on. Big names, a big mix by Selectabwoy!

So here's the tracklist. For the dope people out there, you will love it!

If you were about to listen to this mix and were thinking 'I've got kids around me, this is probably not family friendly', don't you worry: Selectabwoy have got you covered! The odd 'ass' might appear here and there, but that's not really offensive, true?

I am a fan of Hip Hop, but not the present day stuff. Only the old day stuff, the one that Selectabwoy used for this mix. Yes, he might have used a few 'top 40 hits', but the majority of anthems are the darker stuff I like. Especially the Biggie stuff. When I was younger I never appreciated him as much as I do nowadays. But you are never too old to appreciate stuff, eh?

Selectabwoy made it a very interesting and very diverse mix. From the dark to the light, from the classic Hip Hop to the Jazzy type of music. And this was exactly what I needed to hear today. At the moment this mix might be a tad under appreciated, but we will get this one high up in the air. It's yet another wicked mix by Selectabwoy, and the records selected are really hard hitters.

The best one? 'The Truth'. I just love Roisin Murphy's voice. So soothening.

I can only give credit to this mix, and mention the fact that it has made me very happy. And chilled! Oh, and again HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Caro. Hope this mix was the one you listened to when it was your birthday!
