Mark EG LIVE @ Westfest 2025 UK - The Last One

Mark EG and Westfest. They go hand in hand, right? And only a few days ago did Mark EG play at the last ever Westfest. Hence why the event was called ''The Last One''. Sold out, of course, for good reasons. But it also makes me sad. Why are all these events coming to an end? Why did Westfest had to end? They did end on a high note: sold out event, and a fantastic line-up. 20 years of Westfest has now come to an end. (insert emotional distress message here).

I've never been, but I've had many tapes and CD packs, and found a lot of these sets on Soundcloud and YouTube over the years, and they've always sounded amazing. I'm always too damn late in getting tickets, or maybe just too damn lazy. I should have purchased tickets for this, as the line-up looked insane: Sub Focus, Gammer, Slipmatt, Hixxy, Mark EG, Joey Riot, SASASAS, Roni Size, Sub Zero, Hype, Hazard, Brockie, Dougal, Kutski, Scott Brown, Marc Smith, Evil Activities, Thera, Cally & Juice, Producer & Scorpio, Sharkey & Kevin Energy, and the list goes on and on.

Mark EG's set was the first set I found, and it came with a tracklist. Which is obviously a great thing, as I do love a tracklist. And it's music only: no MCs or anyone else interfering with great music. And knowing Mark EG a bit: no interruption from him bouncing around the stage vigorously, or getting injured during a set. Just the music, and that's good enough for me.

But what music? Well, these songs were picked for Mark EG's last ever set at Westfest! Not his last ever set, just his last at Westfest. Christ, imagine Mark not DJing. What would our world look like?

What a list. Even after all these years, Mark EG surprised me. He keeps everyone on their toes, and gets us all raving. I wasn't there, but I'm raving in my house now, which is kind of similar, right?

This mix certainly packs a punch. Leave that to Mark EG, to get the crowd all hyped up, and dancing like there's no tomorrow. His set contains a lot of the more obscure Acid-ic Techno anthems, and I truly like it a lot. You don't hear them that often, and we need that acidic sound more than ever. And I'm guessing that, if you were there, it was a very nice welcome, to hear Mark EG play these anthems.

It is a great set. Powerful anthems. And it packs a punch. It has given me enough energy to get through this WFH day. He never disappoints. What is disappointing, is the fact that this is the last ever Westfest. Or are they just saying it, like Thunderdome did back in the day, but come back in a few years, because people are craving it a lot? Let's hope the future looks bright enough for Westfest. Maybe they will come back as Northfest, Eastfest, or Southfest?

All bants aside, this is a good set. ''I Got Techno'' is my favourite song in this set. Which is yours?
