Melissa x FatKidOnFire Mix (2020)

Dubstep. Does that even still exist? And if so, how come I'm not hearing more Dubstep mixes? Please elaborate it all for me, please. I need to know. How come it has flown underneath my radar? When it came out of the blue, I really appreciated it, and even in 2020 I got a fuzzy feeling in my tummy when I see the word 'Dubstep'. A good fuzzy feeling, if truth be told. And today, the day of all days, Dubstep has re-entered my life. This mix, which was uploaded onto FatKidOnFire's Soundcloud page (I know, the name itself is funny as fuck), was made by Melissa.

They have created this Diversity in Dubstep mix series, to highlight an issue that has risen over the years, but thankfully is fading into obscurity. Not only is it important to give everyone a chance, not just in the Dubstep scene, but in all scenes. And as far as I can tell, in a lot of scenes this is the case. But why not give the female DJs a stage, a place to shine? I think it's a good idea of FKOF, and I hope the mix series gets a lot of attention. But most of all: give the ladies behind each mix credit for their musical input in the scene.

Melissa. I've not seen her name before, but then again I've not been following the scene for a few years. Yes, I've heard a mix here and there, but that's not enough, is it? Today I'm sitting down, and letting Melissa's mix take over my own airwaves. So what's in this mix, which tunes can we all hear?

01. Die By The Sword - Sands Of Time (Dub)

02. Taiko - Slingshot Dub

03. Cartridge - Brute

04. Proove - 8th Hour (Dub)

05. ALXZNDR - Golden Gate

06. Gundam - Swordplay

07. Dead Noise System - Paradox

08. 11th Hour - Bravo Zulu

09. Somah - How We Move

10. Rockstone - Creation

11. MCMM - Haven't You

12. Alix Perez - Ravana

13. Loefah - Natural Charge

14. ALXZNDR - M C W

15. Teffa - Deep Meditation

16. Scarz - Ouroboros (Dub)

17. Taiko - Giant Big Man

18. Kontent - Corrupt Dub

19. Khiva - Chuckles Revenge

20. The Widdler - Mixtape Style

21. Sepia - Think Fast (Dub)

22. Sempra - Ifritah

23. ALXZNDR - Midnight In Mumbai (Dub)

I've got to say that I'm not familiar with any of the names, any of these artists. They just don't ring a bell, you see. It's been too freaking long, mate. I need to get reintroduced into the scene. And to all the excellent music out there. I should thank Melissa for doing exactly that.

Not only do you get an hour and 4 minute long mix, but also an interview. Their website has got some issues, but if you can bypass them, you will be able to read Melissa's interview, and previous interview too. I tried, but my anti virus system did shut everything down. Couldn't handle it. Even though it wasn't dodgy at all. Wahay, at least I've got the music.

And it's exactly what I wanted to hear, to unwind. After a hard day at work, you just want to unload yourself of any stress. And this, ladies and gentlemen, is just picture perfect. This is the kind of style that I appreciate, at any given time. Morning, afternoon, evening, night.... doesn't matter when, I'll listen to it.

Melissa, you are new to me, but your mix is fire! Really lit (as the kids would say). I love discovering new talent, and hearing their perspective on the style/scene. And my introduction into Melissa's world has been great. A really interesting and insightful mix.

The bass was coming through my speakers hard. I freaking loved it. More of this, please! More Dubstep!
