- Happy Hardcore - The Mix (1995)
If you remember the devils in the picture above, you are a legend. You might dislike the devils or what they represented (the Happy Hardcore CD collection, released by Arcade & ID&T), or you love them. I was (and still am) a huge fan of this collection. And when this megamix came out back in 1995, I bought it, and we never parted. This was one of those CDs you could never get rid of. And I cannot explain to you how many times I've played this CD over the years, especially around the glorious year 1995. 27 years old this CD is, I just realised! My God, where has the time gone to? This collection of CDs were released by Arcade and ID&T, and ran between 1995 and 1997. In total it had 9 editions, excluding a School Edition version, which you would get when you purchased a school agenda. And I hated the collection at the same time (I'll explain): from the second instalment they used the devils as artwork, and the first one just never suited the collection. The artwork was as 90s as you can imagine: a lady dressed in weird clothing with weird colourful background. Proper artwork made on a Windows 95 PC lol. Give me the devils any time of the day! They also had a German version, called 'Happy Rave', but we won't talk about that one. Why? Because it wasn't even worth being part of this fantastic CD collection. It's a different entity completely. Let's focus on Happy Hardcore, the Dutch series. I fell in love with the second instalment, and continued buying them all throughout the mid 90s. Were they the best? Well, I would say yes, but the later editions just got worst and worst. The commercial side of Happy Hardcore had more input, and the result were some terrible songs on it. But when it started, everything was fine. And then, in 1995, ID&T and Arcade released the Happy Hardcore - The Mix CD. So called the greatest megamix of all time. 'The best Hardcore mix ever made'. Now that's a statement and a half. But was it good? Was it worth your Dutch Guilders? Only one way to find out, and that's by looking at the tracklist, right? TCM - Intro: This Is Only The Beginning Bertocucci Feranzano - XTC Love (Radio Mix 2) Cixx - Ride The Rhythm DJ Pooch - Live For The Future DJ E-Rick & Tactic - Bring The Noise Lords Of The Underworld - For The People Nina Feranzano & Buzz Fuzz - Keep It Up Critical Mass - Burning Love (DJ Weirdo & DJ Sim 173.683 Remix) Buzz Fuzz - Ill Behaviour DJ Mongoose - Rip Shit Up (DJ Isaac Remix) The Prophet & DJ Delirium - The Way You Make Me DJ Weirdo & DJ Sim - Pump That Stupid Bass (DJ Friendly Mix) DJ Waxweazle & DJ Delirium - Dreams Of Heaven Better World - Ride To The Rhythm Wicked Dimension feat DJ Orson - Together We'll Make It True (DJ Orson Remix) Lovechild - All Out Of Love (DJ Weirdo & DJ Sim Remix) Lords Of The Underworld - Making Moves Midas - Take It From The Groove Damage Inc - Turn Around (Live Version) Creasemaster & Slamdog - Pump The Bass Justin Time - Help Me (Demo Remix) Rob's Project - Loving You DJ Waxweazle - Come With Me The Mad Pro's - One Step Beyond Rigtig - Boombastic Brothers In Crime - Forever 3 Steps Ahead - Drop It (Happy Mix) Love Decade - See Me Jumping Smile - Love Celebration TCM - Outro: This Is Not The End This is a fantastic tracklist, and it takes me back to the mid 90s. I remember it like it was only yesterday. I played this megamix over and over, and know exactly which songs start when. Basically, this CD has been etched onto my brain forever. I cannot live my life without hearing this CD every few months. This is literally my childhood on one disc. This is Happy Hardcore to me. Where the tunes selected the best? Even back in 1995 I hated 'Boombastic' and 'One Step Beyond'. Fuck my life, these songs were horrible, and funnily enough, they still are extremely cringe. They could have used better tunes compared to these two. But still, the general feeling is good. I really love the other tunes in this mix. A mixture of European and UK Happy Hardcore (which I didn't know at the time). This CD contains everything you needed to hear back in 1995. Were you into Happy Hardcore, this CD was the one to have. They were mixed together the same way all mixed CDs were done. Not the finest, but acceptable. Some transitions could have been better. But those were the 90s: cram as many tracks in a mix, and the end result no one cared about. But does this deserve the title 'the best Hardcore mix ever made'? No. Even at that stage there were better mixes. But hey ho, marketing at its finest. But from a nostalgic point of view this CD has got everything. Happy Hardcore galore! This CD makes me happy, and that's all there is to it. Quantity over quality. Sadly the style would die a quick death around 1997-1998, which is a shame. But when it was big, it was big. And this CD fitted in nicely. Is this the best Happy Hardcore megamix out there from 1995? I've not come across others, so my answer would be 'yes'. And is this mix a good representation of my youth? Yes, hell yes. Big reveal of the day: best track of this mix: 'Together We'll Make It True'. Proper cheese fest, but it was the finest track of this disc. Hands down. Did you purchase a copy back in the 90s? Do you still play it? Or, do you even remember this one being released? Are you 'old' enough to remember this one in the Arcade stand? Also, do you remember the promo video for this CD? - Together We Rise [Mixed By M@rt!n-J] (Redux) (2022)
Monday morning, M@rt!n-J time! He's back with yet another amazing mix. This time the mix is focussed on an already defunct label, Together We Rise, a.k.a. TWR. Founded by Hakkoda (Darren Styles, Gammer, Re-Con, Dougal, Breeze, and Whizzkid), it had a short life span of 2 years. Within those two years they released a lot of big dancefloor smashers. Don't know what happened to the label; maybe it just stopped because the artists were getting bigger and bigger and could spend less time on running a label? If anyone knows the exact reason, please leave a comment below. You might have liked what was released on TWR, or disliked it. To me it was OK. You could tell that the music was evolving into something different, and you could tell that Gammer and Darren Styles were destined for greater things. The label had some success, but as mentioned before, it only lasted for 2 years. And the weird thing is that you don't hear these songs as often as you should hear them, in my honest opinion. There were some big dancefloor anthems, which went down well back in 2015 - 2016. There wasn't a mix online that did not contain at least 1 or 2 records from TWR. These songs were literally everywhere, and got a lot of smiles on the dancefloor. And M@rt!n-J's job on this glorious yet cold Monday morning is to get those smiles back. I think he has succeeded yet again. But which records did he use? Well, these 18 tracks! Gammer & Galaxy Fox - Burn You Tonight Gammer - Pigface (Dougal & Gammer Edit) Re-Con - Raw Power Re-Con - Touch The Stars Da Tweekaz - Hewwego (Darren Styles Remix) Darren Styles & Chris Unknown - Down Like That Darren Styles - Get This Place Darren Styles - It's Like That Dougal & Gammer - Shoulder Lock Dougal, Gammer & Daren Styles - Stay Young Mark Breeze - Be Alone Dougal & Gammer - Never Stop Molly - Beneath The Lights (Darren Styles Remix) Darren Styles feat Christina Novelli - Sun Is Rising Darren Styles, Re-Con & Whizzkid - Jump Up Omegatypez - Take Me High (Kutski & Gammer Remix) Dougal & Gammer feat Lyck - Make It If We Try (Hardcore Mix) Gammer & Becci - Look Back So, this set is filled with tracks by big names. Come on, you don't think these are big names? You familiar with the UK Hardcore scene at all? The tracks are all dancefloor smashers, but some aren't my cup of tea. Some are a bit too cheesy, bit too bland. But then on the other hand you've got killer anthems like 'Stay Young', 'Beneath The Light'', 'Hewwego' and more. A lot of big songs, that have stood the test of time. Especially songs with the vocals by Molly. Her voice suited the scene so extremely well. What has happened to her? I am feeling the vibes this morning. It might be Monday morning, but this mix gives me a lot of smiles. After being infected with COVID-19 nearly 2 weeks ago, finally something to smile about. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, but at least you need to acknowledge that the music released by TWR were dope as fuck back in 2015 and 2016. Another wicked mix. Will M@rt!n-J ever release a shit mix? Keep your eyes and ears peeled, and I might see one in the future. But for now, he's releasing mixes you should all jump on. - Scarred 200 Mix
Scarred Digital. Recognise that name? One of the UK Hardcore labels who have been around for a decade now, and recently had their 200th release. A label run by Sc@r, and a stable force to be recognised. If you've not heard of the label, you might have been on a different planet. But don't worry, Skyline (who made this mix) has got you covered. And his 51 minute long mix contains 14 of the records of Scarred Digital's 200th release, which was a 16 record album, including a mix by Sc@r herself, and a t-shirt. And all that for £29.99. Still a few left, link below for you to click on, in case you are eager to get yourself this nice bundle. I think the last time I heard/reviewed a Skyline mix, was when he did his Scott Brown dedication mix. That's a long time ago. But the other day, when I was scrolling my life away on Soundcloud, I spotted his latest mix, and I just had to jump on it. I am just a UK Hardcore fan, and couldn't let this one go by without acknowledging it. So this is me acknowledging it, and appreciating it. I am a fan of Sc@r for many years, and have been following her label for a few years too. Her label has always been an interesting one: a nice platform for any inspiring UK Hardcore producer. If you've got talent, and love making happy UK Hardcore, you might have your song featured on the label (if not and Sc@r has got other criteria set, apologies). On their 200th release they had 16 songs, and 14 of them you can find in this mix. 2 were left out, as they were a tad slower, BPM wise. Still 14 very fine UK Hardcore songs, from a wide variety of producers. Ready to see what Skyline has used for this dedication mix? Dan Edge - Addicted To You Sc@r feat Lara B - Until The End DJ Deluxe - I Want To Fly Simon Apex & Dair - Fade To Black (Breaks & Beats Mix) Danny R-Core - Uh Oh Oh X-Cyte - Who I Am (SD200 Mix) Wyld feat Zoe VanWest - Party Girl Sethrow - Brand New Sky Candy Kid - Ravers In The USA ViolonC - Hurricane Mansy & Lara B - Ocean Breeze (Dean-P Remix) Eazyvibe - Running Away For Good Mansy - Your Survival Assailant, Catseyez & Emoticon - Triggered Oh, this shows my age. And my lack of UK Hardcore reviews. I do know a few names but the majority of these are unknown names to me. But I'll let the music speak to me instead. And the music, well, is very good. There a lot of UK Hardcore, Breakbeat, and more in this mix. And it's a nice diverse mix too. Every song has got its own vibe, its own uniqueness. These 14 records aren't all the same. They all sound completely different, and it's good. We all get 14 different views on how to make UK Hardcore songs. And I love that. Not all following the same text book on how to make UK Hardcore anthems. And this enlightens my love for UK Hardcore even more. There are some classics in here, classics in the making, and a few cheesy songs too. I even liked Sc@r's own song which she did with Lara B. But from the 14 songs I have to give credit to 'Your Survival' by Mansy. That's the one song that made me move the most. A wonderful mix, a nice dedication mix. And if you are into this kind of UK Hardcore (it being lovely and happy), why not grab yourself this bundle (of joy)? Click on the link below, and it will take you directly to the page, where you leave your card details, and £29.99. Is it worth it? Don't know about the t-shirt quality, but the music is quality! - Unreleased Showcase (2022)
The weekend has landed. And it's looking great: sun is shining, and the temperatures are slowly going the right direction. And what is it that I'm doing? Sitting indoors with my laptop on. But I was thinking 'why not have some nice and exclusive music play through whatever media player it is you are using?'. And for that, we are going to listen to Chris Blaylock's mix, posted roughly a month ago, and it contains only unreleased tracks. And boy, are these unreleased anthems big! According to his Soundcloud comment for this mix, this mix contains bootlegs, reworks, and unofficial tracks. And some of these tracks are humongous! And when I use that word, I don't use it lightly. I do actually mean it. It is good to hear some big anthems being reworked or remixed, and sometimes these songs are even better than the original. But that's up to you to decide, and the only way to do that, is to sit back, relax, and press play. I haven't even mentioned what kind of music it is. But if you haven't figured it out by looking at the image above, are you really into dance music? This mix is packed to the max with Trance anthems. An hour and a half pure pleasure for your ears, carefully mixed together by Chris Blaylock. I can't think of anything else I'd rather be doing right now. So, if you haven't paid attention yet, here's the tracklist: L.S.G. - Netherworld (Ciaran McAuley Remix) Digger - The Church Of Ra (Arielle & Andrist Remix) Above & Beyond presents Tranquillity Base - Razorfish (Steve Allen & Cris Grey Rework) Super8 & Tab - Helsinki Scorchin (Chris Metcalfe Remix) Thomas Datt - 2v2 (Tau-Rine Bootleg) Bart Claessen - Playmo (Perrelli & Mankoff Rework) The Temper Trap - Sweet Disposition (Blashear Tech Rework) Daft Punk - Harder Faster (Liam Melly Remix) The Prodigy - Omen (R.E.L.O.A.D. Rework) Rebuke - Along Came Polly (Greg Downey Rework) Ava Max - Tom (Renegade System Remix) Yves Deruyter - Back To Earth (ShockForce Remix) Tomaz vs Filterheadz - Sunshine (Omega Drive Bootleg) Umek - Gatex (Jonny Haslett Rework) Sinead O'Connor - Troy (Darren Hall Rework) Sean Truby - Hooked (Ehren Stowers & Zach Zlov Remix) Brainbug - Nightmare (TR2 Remix) Miss Shiva - Dreams (Honan Remix) The Prodigy - No Good (Liam Melly Rework) Mauro Picotto & Ricardo Ferri - Time To Wake Up (Project 8 Tech Mix) Matti Loomanen - Flakes (Kev Wild & Factoria Rework) G-Spott - No Comment (Lucas Deyong Bootleg) Obviously most of these tracks I know, and I know them because I know the original version of them, but now I'm being shaken to my core. So the originals are great tracks, but are these unreleased records hidden gems? Are they even better than the original? Or just OK-ish? I have to say that I'm loving the vibes. It's something different, something exciting, yet something oh so familiar. And to be fair, I wasn't expecting to see two The Prodigy records and a Daft Punk song in here. But it's the weekend: who gives a flying fuck? A glorious mix, and one I would urge you to listen to. If you want to hear something different, listen to Chris Blaylock's latest mix. He's also done a second version of this Unreleased Showcase mix, which I would urge you to listen to too. But for now, give this mix a go. Best record? 'Along Came Polly'. Big, very big track. Oh, and another bonus (for all those music freaks out there): it's a free download! So enjoy it anywhere and everywhere. - Ramos & Protocol - Back 2 The Old Skool 1995-1996 Hardcore (2022)
It's Tuesday. Hardcore Tuesday. Or more like early 90s UK/Happy Hardcore. And if you haven't seen this mix yet, it's a big one. If you are a true UK Hardcore fanatic from day one, you must know these two DJs: Ramos and Protocol. They uploaded a brand spanking new mix, focussed on the mid 90s Hardcore sound, which was big in the UK. And all those old school fanatics might be loosing their shit after they hear about this mix: they all want to jump on it, and hear those glorious tunes again, coming at them through their speakers. Well, today's your lucky day! Back in the 90s I listened to a lot of Happy Hardcore and a lot of continental Hardcore (a.k.a. Dutch Gabber/Hardcore House). The UK side of Hardcore mostly flew passed me, and even though a few of the UK hits appeared on Dutch compilations, the majority just never appeared on anything I bought. So for me the 90s and UK Hardcore is always a new thing to discover. And after checking the tracklist, most of these tracks are 'known' to me, but also a handful of these tracks remain a complete mystery. Today's the day I will go back in time, to 1995-1996, and let the music complete take over my life. One thing I have to give the people in the UK credit for: their parties looked ace! A bit more obscure and underground, compared to the Netherlands. And their cassettes always sounded more cooler. Why? Is it the whistle crew? The screaming fans? It was everything! And of course the music. I was more into European Hardcore, but me being at a sensible age now, I can appreciate the UK side of Hardcore more and more. So what do Ramos and Protocol have in store for us? Which tracks did they use for this hour and a half long mix? You Happy Hardcore fanatics might loose their shit when they see the tracklist. Go on, scroll down a tiny bit, and have a look at this beast: Midas - Take It From The Groove Hixxy & Bananaman - Yes Yes, Er Yes Cheddar - Cheddar 3 Side A Midas - Waiting For Gold Ramos, Supreme & Sunset Regime - Who Will Be The Leader Ramos, Supreme & Sunset Regime - Life Force Generator (RSR Mix) DJ Unknown & Vinylgroover - Ice Cold The Timespan - Shout Now (Hixxy & Sharkey Remix) Hixxy - Wanting To Get High Supreme & UFO - Fantasy Land The DJ Unknown Project - Paradise Ramos, Supreme & Sunset Regime - In The Place To Be Midas & Sunset Regime - Break On Through (Unreleased Mix) Bang The Future - Don't Try & Hide Ballistic - Operator Bang The Future - Better Day (Happy Mix) Seb - Rainbow Island (Sharkey's Bonkers Mix) Supreme, Billy Bunter & D-Zyne - Outside World GBT. Inc - Burn Muther Fucker Vinylgroover - Vinyl Explosion (DJ Unknown Remix) Supreme & UFO - Forever Autumn If you love your Happy Hardcore, this must certainly give you goosebumps! A trip down memory lane. And obviously they had to play a few of the biggest tunes ever released, like the ones by Bang The Future, Seb, Vinylgroover, Midas, and more. A very good looking tracklist. To be fair, I've been listening to this over and over since 7am.And I'm really feeling the Happy Hardcore vibes coming through my speakers. It is giving me a warm and fuzzy feeling. I'm really loving the anthems. They have started the mix with a fucking solid song by Midas, and ended with such a sing-a-long song. My God, this brings back memories of when Happy Hardcore was the only thing people listened to. Yes, a fantastic selection of mid-90s songs. Good selection boys, good selection. That's for sure. And if you are into this kind of Hardcore, you will feel nostalgic within seconds. But which record gave me the most goosebumps? Well, it's 'Vinyl Explosion', remixed by DJ Unknown. Big anthem. Not a lot is happening, but it just captures the Happy Hardcore sound extremely well. Got only love to give. Big mix, very big mix. No more talking, more listening should be the thing we are all doing. Press play, and let's all BE HAPPY! - Promo Tribute Vol. 2 (2022)
The REVOLUTIONIST. That is certainly DJ Promo. We start a new week with a new dedication mix. One you do not want to miss, unless you don't think that DJ Promo is one of the best Hardcore producers out there. If you were hoping for a different review, please go somewhere else. But for now, it's all about DJ Promo and his excellent discography. And today's mix is presented to us by the Finnishing Dutch. An hour and a half of excellent Promo tracks: is there another way to start your week? This is surely the best way, right? Before I proceed with this review, I have to apologise: I've not reviewed anything the last week, and that's due to my poor health. Yes, I had COVID, and it took me down completely. Not your standard ass flu, much more powerful though. I'm recovering though, hence why I'm back behind my computer, reviewing again (and doing standard 9 to 5 work too). But I'm back, with a vengeance, and a very powerful mix. One that might kick the last few COVID cells out of my body! As you all know, I am a huge fan of DJ Promo. I've been reviewing mixes and liveset by the legend himself for many years, and I've owned many CDs (including the one you see the pic of above). Promo's music always spoke to me, and I always liked his different approach to Hardcore. He dabbled in many subgenres of Hardcore, including Happy Hardcore, and whatever he did, it always seem to work. Revolutionary some might call it. I call it 'music made by a legend'. The Prophet is already a name taken, but he can surely be seen as one of the biggest influences in the scene, past, present and future. Promo is the name that gave us Hardcore the way he wanted it to, and we all love him for doing that. The Finnishing Dutch's mix contains a few well known and a few obscure Promo records, but all are highly enjoyable. But it's something you weren't ready for. Let the Finnishing Dutch take over your Monday morning, and let Promo come at you through ya speakas (see what I did there?) Intro - The Visionary Promo - Rage Ignites The Fire Promo - Bass Management Promo - King Of Pain Promo - My Claim To Fame Mad Dog & Promo - The Realness Promo - Emotions Over Anger Unknown feat Catscan - Condemned To Darkness The Masochist - Killing Scum (DJ Promo meets Shaolin Remix) Promo - What The Fuck? Promo - Escape From The Hostile Lenny Dee & Promo - I Called You Promo - Lord Of Undow Promo - Running Against The Rules Promo - The Revolutionist Promo & Marc Acardipane feat The Ultimate MC - Legends Unite Promo - Different Breed Of Men Promo - Rising Out Of The Dark The Wishmaster & DJ Promo - Crazy As Fuck Promo - Oblivion Promo & Tha Playah feat Snowflake - Open (Upside Down) Korsakoff & Promo - The Sound Flow Promo & DJ Delirium - Bass Power Promo - Bring It Raw Brian Acardy - Wayz Of Da Underground Promo - Cold As Stone Promo & Da Vinci - Psycho Style Promo - Can't Hold Me Down Promo - Shut Up! Rude Awakening - Crop Circle Making Dominating Whore Abuser Promo - Thunderstorm (Then Mix) It's a nice looking tracklist, wouldn't you agree? A bit of 'old' and a bit of 'new'. But all focussed on DJ Promo's impressive discography. And he's got some heavy hitters under his belt. You can find a few of them in this mix, or if you missed a few, the Finnishing Dutch has also uploaded the first volume of this Promo dedication mixes many years ago. Maybe your missing track is in there? Why don't you go and have a look? The tracks are really solid. Nothing to complain about, really. And I love the fact that the titles of most tracks are quite dark and obscure, but they aren't as messed up as the Rude Awakening's title: 'Crop Circle Making Dominating Whore Abuser'. Like WTF? That has to be a winner in the category 'weirdest Hardcore track title ever'? The main question here is: do I like the old Promo sound, or the newer Promo sound? And that's a tricky question to answer, because his newer stuff is also very exciting, and contains the same feeling, the same as his previously released songs. OK, I've got an answer, and you might like it or dislike it, but I prefer the older sound. And this leads up to my favourite record in this mix. 'Can't Hold Me Down'. Bit dancefloor anthem, that's for sure. Released around the time I went out raving for the first time. Heard it everywhere, and it's engraved into my brain. Big track. A good mix by the Finnishing Dutch. A few mixing erors, and a few sound quality issues. Nevertheless, a very highly enjoyable mix you wouldn't want to miss. Give it a go, give your Monday a boost! - MOH Radio Drokz Kapot Hard Mix (2022)
Have you ever heard of DJ or MC Drokz? If not, get the fuck away from here. How can you not know one of the biggest names in the Hardcore/Terror scene? One who has been nicknamed the Grandad of Terror? As you all know, I've got a soft spot for this Terror legend and everything he does. He's been such a stable force in the Hardcore scene and much respected, and only a handful of months ago he released his own book. Yes, you've read that right, he's got his own book! An autobiography, written by the one behind Elite Pauper. And the title of the book is 'Kapot Hard'. At the moment it is only in Dutch, but maybe in the future an English version might become available. But yeah, the Grandad of Terror has now got a book, and to 'promote' the book, he made this mix. Interested yet? I've been trying to get the book, and will go to the Netherlands soon, to see family, and hopefully by then they have got the book. Really intrigued to read the ins- and outs of everything Drokz related, and Hardcore/Terror related. He's been in the game for many years now, and has racked up a lot of experience over the years. Seen a lot, done a lot. So this book should be an interesting read. The book is selling like hot cakes, so hopefully I'll get my copy as soon as possible. Wouldn't want to miss out on this marvellous book. It's full of interesting historically significant bits and bobs all us Hardcore fanatics want to read about. Of course Drokz is a well loved and respected producer, but the mix he uploaded yesterday is just to demonstrate that with age comes experience, and he hasn't lost his marbles. Guessing he never will. He will always be able to give us excellent music and excellent mixes. And yes, it's a promo mix for his book, but it's also a nice new refreshing mix by the Grandad. And who would say 'no' to that? It was aired on Masters Of Hardcore radio, but now for your listening pleasures on Soundcloud: E-Noid - Swallow N Choke (Refix) Instinct vs DRS feat Disarray - Riot Striker - Rise Of Fighters Dolphin - Facemasks Vandal!sm & Proactive HC - Someone Make Some Noise Da Mouth Of Madness & Proactive HC - Outlaw Till I Die Akira - All Rise Rob Gee - Realm Of Natas (System Overload Remix) Delta 9 - STFU Drokz - We Get On Drokz Hellfish & Akira - Pop A Mix Ritchie Gee & DJ Mutante - Kool DJ Drokz - I'm Coming To Take Out All Of Yall Ultragore - Back From The Death The Inquisitor & The Shadow - Your Mother Is A Cunt Execrate - Live By The Bullet Creatures Of The Occult - This Is The House Of The Devil Drokz - I Might Even Get Violent Drokz - Funk This The Vizitor - Fuck You Up Drokz - I Was Born Hardcore And Raised To Be Terror Paranoizer & Dissoactive - Welcome To The Terrordrome Akira & Metal D - Trancetrutje (Drokz Remix) Creatures Of The Occult - The Place We Call Hell A bit of everything is in here. I know (and so does Drokz) that you like it. I certainly do. I've been listening to the mix at least 10 times today already. Oh no, that might be a bit of a porky pie (a lie): 9 times seems more accurate. A wonderful mix, with a bit of everything in here. Of course Drokz had to play a few of his own records, and why wouldn't he? But also a bit of Uptempo in this mix too. Nice and diverse, but still rough and raw as fuck. The BPMs are extremely high, and remain high from the start until the end of the mix. And I'm liking this a lot: my nipples are currently erect, and that's not because of the cold temperatures. Drokz's mix is yet another amazing one, and I really enjoyed it. And I'm guessing you will enjoy it too. But which record in this mix made me 'erect' the most? ' Kool DJ'. Remember the original? That's such a party anthem from the 90s! For a split second I was back at a club/bar/disco and imagined that this tune came on: no one was safe around us! Big tunes, cool remix! I really enjoyed it, and I want you to experience the same: click the player below, and let the music take you on a journey! And if are able to read a book in Dutch, order Drokz's book. Might do a book review later (in a couple of months)... be on the look out! - Dubstep Sessions - 20/02/22
Another week has landed, and let's start the week with a Dubstep mix by jerOO! It's been a while, I think it was last year we saw his 'Isolation' mix (the second instalment), and the year before the initial mix. But it's been very quiet, which is a shame. Always appreciated jerOO a lot, and his way of mixing, and especially the tunes he uses for his mixes. But don't you worry: he's back, and his mix is now on Soundcloud. Originally recorded on 20/02/22 on Mixlr. But now for you all to enjoy! I always find it amazing how he can cram in so many records in a short mix. And correct me if I'm wrong, but this mix is one of his shortest mixes I've come across in a long time, or even ever. Can't remember a shorter mix? But as many people would say: it's not the length that matters, it's what happens during those minutes (or something similar, something more dirty). Does jerOO deliver within the 43 minutes? Well, the answer is yes. But I would not have expected anything else, if I'm brutally honest. He keeps the entertainment level way up, and gets us all going. Dubstep all the way. And within those 43 minutes he throws in a lot of big tracks from big names. So, my suggestion would be for you to go all the way to the bottom of this review, press play on the mix, and scroll back to halfway the page, to see the tracks he has used for this mix. Sounds like a good deal? Want to be woken up properly? Let jerOO's mix wake you up! Crank the volume way the fuck up, and let the bass tremble you out of your bed. I was already wide awake when I pressed play, but now I'm certainly awake, and no chance of me going to bed at all today. jerOO has done it again. A 43 minute mix with a ridiculous amount of songs in it. 32 to be precise. He keeps us on our toes, and those minutes do fly by without you even realising. You are probably already reached the end of the mix, and wonder 'how did this happen?' A very nice and solid mix by jerOO. Really enjoyed it. A few tiny errors, but nothing dramatically bad. Still a highly enjoyable mix. Is this jerOO's finest mix? Honestly? No. That honour goes to his Grime mix he did many moons ago, or his TCD mix (that was fucking epic). But it's still a wicked mix, no word of a lie! Check it out right now! Best song? Well, the one with the Star Wars laser sounds! Around the 6 min mark. Don't know which song that is specifically, but you'll figure it out. - Spring Sensation Mixed By M@rt!n-J (2022)
Friday is here, and it's time for yet another mix by M@rt!n-J! He's back with a brand spanking new UK Hardcore mix, one you all might enjoy. You are probably sitting behind your desk, waiting for the hours to go by. And this mix might give you enough energy to celebrate the upcoming weekend. The weekend is only a few hours ahead of us, but surely with this mix will speed up time. M@rt!n-J has got our back. Another epic mix, with tracks from the mighty HU8 album... is there anything else you currently want? Nope. A bit of UK Hardcore / Breakbeat Hardcore won't do you any harm. I listen to this nearly every day (or every other day, depending on my mood), and I'm still around. But let's put the music aside for a split second: let's talk about the weather... and the climate! Not in a negative way, but in a positive way. Spring is also ahead of us, but it's creeping up slowly. On the 20th of March up until the 21st of June the UK will experience Spring. And it will be glorious: Sun shining more often, less crappy rainy days, and more outdoor parties. Let's bring it on! So let's all stay a tad positive (as much as we can, obviously), and let's focus on what M@rt!n-J has used for this mix. It seems these are tracks from HU8, so you are all familiar with those, and will be excited to see them in this mix, right? Jack In Box & Fracus - Like This (Breakbeat Mix) Jack In Box - Original Posse AoS - Find Me Nakura - Just Like Before (JAKAZiD Remix) Fracus & Darwin vs S3RL - Moonlit Eyes (Extended Mix) Mr Ripley - Find Your Way Daniel Seven & Darwin - Kick It Again Daniel Seve & Buzz feat Jessica Palmer - Here To Stay Daniel Seven - Sun On The Ocean JAKAZiD - Dance Track Chris Fear & AoS - Refuse To Be Denied Claxton - Nu Dawn AoS & Claxton - Epiphany Darwin, In Effect & Buzzy feat Fraz - Don't Say Goodbye (Daniel Seven Remix) Sc@r - Live It Up (Daniel Seven Remix) Vau Boy - Rule The World Fracus & Darwin feat Jake - Make It Tonight AoS & Angerzone - Bad Sensation Contraption - Dreaming Of Another Way (Audio X Remix) This is a nice and friendly looking tracklist. Something different compared to the standard mixes you see. A bit of everything, and a wide variety of artists. But I do spot maybe M@rt!n-J being a fanboy of Daniel Seven? So many of his tracks are in this mix... It's a nice tracklist, and the mix is quite nice too. He always delivers, this M@rt!n-J. Another wicked mix, and a good selection of records. But I have to say that after the first two records I already press play again, because the first two are just so freaking epic. My God, whoever Jack In Box is, your records are ace. Especially 'Original Posse'. I've got no negative feedback. A lovely UK Hardcore / Breakbeat mix, and it's also a free download! How's that for a treat, eh? Bring on 2022's SPRING!!! - DANAMITE Label Showcase (09.12.2019)
Tuesday, Dana day. It's not official, but we can surely make it an official day. (Dinsdag, Dana dag). How's that for a festive idea? So let's kick this Tuesday off with a bang. A short but yet extremely exciting mix by our friend Audioholik. 2 years ago he decided to do a dedication mix, to a label which was run by the Queen of Hardstyle, Dana (a.k.a. Lady Dana). It was a subsidiary of The Third Movement label, and only had releases between 2004 and 2007. Don't know what happened to the label, but the records released on this label were amazing. Do you remember this label? Danamite. Most of the records on this label (9 in total) were made by the Queen herself, and 22% of the songs were by others. And by others I mean The Playboyz and D-Block & S-te-Fan. But we will focus solely on Dana's own records. She was an amazing producer when she was still making Hardcore anthems, but in the Hardstyle scene she blossomed into this extremely fine producer, and nailed it on the head. Her tracks (from this label) are really good, raw, rough, with a Dana twang to it. You could differentiate her tracks from other producers. She had this sound that she embraced well. Well, she hasn't just received the title of 'Queen' for no reason? She is the Queen. And her songs were ace. Audioholik's mix contains a few records from her label, and it makes me want to go 'back in time' (see what I did there, a Dana pun!) and dance throughout the night to her tunes. Between these years I really fell in love with her Hardstyle records, and still regard them highly. Yes, she's the Queen, but she will demolish speakers if needs must. But now you are wondering which tracks are in this short mix? Well, these: Dana - Back In Time Dana - Mash Dana - Unendlichkeit Dana - House Of Rock Dana - Catch My Drift (Rave Mix) Dana - Jaguar Dana - Restyled 7 records. 31 minute long mix. This has to be the shortest tracklist I've seen in a while. Audioholik has done a great job in choosing these fine songs, and mixing them all together nicely. Dana is just a pure hidden gem. She has got some well respected and much loved records under her belt, and when you see 'Restyled' in a mix, you know shit is about to go down! Speakers are about to blow. She brings the heat, and this record just embraces the sound from that era. Dana doing her thing, and she did it extremely well. I don't have any negative comments about this mix. Yet another amazing mix by Audioholik, embracing the mighty Danamite, and making sure that we remember this awesome label in 2022 and for many years to come. My only feedback would be: go check this mix out, and see if you are a Dana fan too (if you weren't already). This mix will certainly bring a huge smile on your face. Don't believe me? Try it: press play and let the music speak for itself! Oh, another good thing: free download! How's that, eh? Gorgeous! - Italian Hardstyle Classics - Mix By DJ-Bionic (2021)
Monday Morning, let's wake up with a bang! And let's start with a style we all love: the early Italian Hardstyle sound. You know, the sound that emerged after the Millennium had happened. The Italians dipped their toes into this new style, and quickly made it their own! And many people turned their heads, and were curious to find out what this new approach to Hardstyle was. And we all fucking loved it! The early Italian Hardstyle sound, can't beat it! But thankfully, after being reminded by DJ-Bionic that there's a set online that focusses on this style, we are now waking up to a pleasant sound we all appreciate. I sadly know nothing much about DJ-Bionic, so let's focus on his mix instead. If anyone does know a bit more about this DJ, leave a comment below. Always good to read a bit more. But yeah, his mix. It contains a few Italian classics by well known producers such as Jimmy The Sound, TNT, D Sonar, and many more. If you appreciate this kind of Hardstyle music, you will certainly love which tracks he has selected for this mix. There are 17 records in this mix, and they are all solid records. The Italians have given so many memorable tunes, and these are just a handful of records. If DJ-Bionic had to use all of them, the mix would be at least 200 hours long. But he kept it nicely to an hour. So, are you ready to be woken up on this morning with some slammers, some dancefloor demolishing tracks? Atlantic Wave - The Creation (Giada Remix) DJ Stardust - Stompin' Jack Flash (Giada Remix) TNT - First Match (Technoboy Mix) The Hose - Call It Hardstyle (The Raiders Remix) Hunter - The Hammer (Techno Mix) Speedwave - Little Italy (Hardstyle Masterz Remix) D Sonar & JDJ - YRML (You Are My Life) Tuneboy - Sexbusters (Technoboy Remix) K-Traxx - Propulse (Technoboy vs K-Traxx Original Mix) Automatic DJz - Mad Lay Julian DJ & David Sonar - GO GO GO Analogic Disturbance - Hunting 1 TNT - Ti Ta Tnt (Technoboy vs Tuneboy Mix) Citizen - Bangin' Man (Hardstyle Mix 1) Technoboy - Tales From A Vinyl (Chapter One) JTS - Modulo (Modulo One Remix) JTS - Nog Een Keer Ooh, early Monday morning goosebumps. I'm really digging the tracklist. It includes a few tracks I've not heard in a long, very long time. And that, ladies and gentlemen, makes me happy. A very good selection by DJ-Bionic, I have to agree. On Soundcloud, underneath this mix, there are a few positive comments left. Looking at the tracklist, he has done a marvellous job, and got the right records. The majority of the mix is quite good, but there are some small mixing errors in here. First, I thought it was me. But it sadly wasn't. During the mix it can go a bit wonky from time to time, and even skipped. I don't know if Bionic used vinyl to make this mix? I did enjoy this mix a lo, and have to say that 'Little Italy' has grown on me. This isn't the first time I heard it, on the contrary. But when it was new, I just never liked it. It might have taken a few years, but in this mix it's my favourite one. A really entertaining mix. A few mixing/recording errors, but you can avoid them by not being as picky as I am. - Noize Suppressor @ Fantasy Island Festival 2015
Fantasy Island. To me this name is linked to a theme park in Skegness, not an event in Enschede, the Netherlands. This event series started back in 2008 and continued up until 2016. And at their 2015 edition, they had Noize Suppressor playing (alongside many other Hardcore & Hardstyle acts). And it's his set that I'm reviewing. But as mentioned, he wasn't the only big name at this event: here are a few of the artists at this event: Coone, Atmozfears, Radical Redemption, Art of Fighters, Korsakoff, Evil Activities, Mad Dog & Outblast, Angerfist, Drokz, Technoboy, Jason Payne, Adaro, Meagashira, Promo, Bass-D, Tommyknocker, Pila, Crypsis, The Viper, N-Vitral, Destructive Tendencies, Unexist, and many more! Noize Suppressor appeared in two areas: not only in the UNITY area but also in the Millennium area (as DJ Bike). And as you are all aware of, I'm a huge fan of DJ Bike a.k.a. Noize Suppressor. And to find a good set by the legend is always a good thing to experience, especially when it's a nice and relaxing weekend. I need an hour of Noize Suppressor to give me enough energy to keep me going, and his set from Fantasy Island is a good one! Why, after nearly 7 years, do I decide to review this? Well, it's because our trusted friend Hansolo on Soundcloud added a tracklist only three days ago. And you know I can't review a set without a tracklist. So now this has been added, let's see which tracks Noize Suppressor used to create small earthquakes in Enschede, the Netherlands... Noize Suppressor - Let These Motherfuckers Know Chain Reaction - The Record Breaking NeoX - Hard As Life Bloodcage - Bloodline Stereotype - Blackout Noize Suppressor - Circus Of Hell Stereotype - March To The Drums Noize Suppressor feat MC Syco - The Power Of Unity Noize Suppressor - Jackass Sperm Noize Suppressor - Push It Noize Bangerz - Here We Go Tommyknocker & Mad Dog - Minimix Noize Suppressor - I'm Running Shit Noize Suppressor feat The Mystery MC - Party Animal Stereotype & Noize Suppressor - Break It Down Noize Suppressor & Rob Gee - NoizeGee Angerfist & Noize Suppressor - Bring The Pain NeoX - Let's Do This Sei2ure - Informer Noize Suppressor - Ears Bleed Euromasters - Alles Naar De Klote (Neophyte & Evil Activities Remix) This is a nice looking tracklist. A nice and diverse tracklist. Not just his own tracks (even though the majority are, but that's not a bad thing), but also a few others. I am feeling the tracks he has selected. One thing I'm not feeling, is the MC. My sweet baby Jesus, he's just pure crap. I cannot stand MCs that add nothing to a set, and during this set the MC adds absolutely nothing. Sorry to say though. He might be a nice lad, but he's not adding any value to the already outstanding track selection by Noize Suppressor. Don't know why they would ruin a set with an MC, when it's absolutely not needed. But besides the MC, when he's not ruining the set, the mix is actually quite good. Noize Suppressor bringing the heat. And so many great anthems. This man has got so many great anthems under his belt, it's unbelievable. My most favourite from this Fantasy Island set? Well 'Jackass Sperm'. I'm getting a lot of early NS vibes when I hear this song! Pure banger, this is! A wonderful hour long set by one of Italy's finest DJs and producer, Noize Suppressor. Slightly ruined by the MC. But if you avoid getting annoyed by the MC, it's a highly entertaining set! - Thunderdome - The Golden Series (2014)
Thunderdome. A legendary name in the Hardcore scene. The originator some might call it. But whatever your stance is on Thunderdome, they have been a huge influence to us all. We all grew up with Thunderdome CDs, merchandise, even a Red Bull kind of energy drink, and of course their legendary events. It was big in the 90s, then it disappeared for a while, and came back with a vengeance. And then it was announced it was the 'last' event. And then it came back. It's like Hardcore will never die, right? Whatever the history is, it's been glorious. And back in 2014 they released 'The Golden Series' CD. To commemorate the years 1992 until 2012. 20 years of Hardcore, and in the year of 2022 (which we live in now), it's 30 years. Time literally has flown by, but what most of us do, is go back in time, music wise. We always look back at the music behind us, and we kind of all agree that the early and Millennium stuff was the best. Or am I being a bit rude, to presume? It's my view in the end, and I do agree that the early and Millennium sound still remains the best. And this CD captured those glorious years beautifully. And who else would you ask to mix a CD together? You've got three discs, and disc one was mixed by Bass-D & Lady Dana, second one by Promo & Catscan, and the third one by the Neophyte Records All Stars. The crème de la crème, as the French would say. And it's been evenly distributed: 1992 to 1998, 1999 to 2005, and 2005 to 2012. And I know for sure that there are people now reading this review, already salivating over their phone/keyboard, and can't wait to see the tracklist (if they haven't purchased the CD already). You know deep down inside this tracklist is going to be fucking epic. All these artists have got a good reputation within the scene, and together they've got decades of experience and knowledge, and know how to mix. And most of all: they know which tunes people want to hear! And that's what this CD is about! Ready for the list of all lists? Here it is: CD 1 : 1992 - 1998 Bass-D & Lady Dana Rotterdam Terror Corps - We're Gonna Blow Your Mind The Masochist - No New Style Masoko Solo - Pessa Pessa (Buzzy Goes BZRK Remix) Tschabos - Gib Mir Die Bass (Noch Korrekter) Bass-D & King Matthew - In The Mix Bertocucci Feranzano - XTC Love Reyes - Rock With Me Bodylotion - Make You Dance E-Rick & Tactic - We Won't Stop Rocking Inferno Bros - Slaves To The Rave Omar Santana - Wizard Of Oh Lockjaw - Ruff 'N Ruggin Isaac - Bad Dreams Buzz Fuzz - Frequencies Diss Reaction - Jiiieehaaaa Turbulence - 6 Million Ways To Die Miss Groovy - Jungle Sickness The Stunned Guys - Beats Time Bertocucci Feranzano - E-Motion Knightvision - The Search For Marihuana Darrien Kelly & Scott Brown - Geleihoofd Lenny Dee - The Dreamer Nasty Django - Hardcore Muthafucka Lady Dana & Skorp vs Bass-D & King Matthew - The Execution CD 2 : 1999 - 2005 Promo & Catscan Promo & DJ X-Ess - Vicious Circle Armageddon Project - Spawn Of Misanthropy Base Alert - Ojeeoink Tha Playah - Mastah Of Shock Meagashira - Through Inner Core Angels Of Darkness - The Scorpion King Catscan - The Agency Tommyknocker - The Aftermath Korsakoff - My Empty Bottle Angerfist - Raise Your Fist Catscan - WO III Placid K - G Member Ophidian - Butterfly Promo & Digital Boy - Serious Damage D-Passion - Fuck The Free World Promo & Catscan - Toch Welleuk Nosferatu & Endymion - Drunk With A Gun Catscan - Finishing Profiles G-Shock - Demons (Promo Remix) Nosferatu & Ophidian - Psychiatric Ass Noize Suppressor - Fingherz Promo - Phreak Ya Speaka Project Omeaga - Prednison Attack Unexist - Attack CD 3 : 2006 - 2012 Neophyte Records All Stars Tommyknocker vs Sunbeam - Twisted World (The Viper Mashup) Endymion - Abduction Mike NRG - Lost In Dreams (Weapon X Remix) Amnesys - Refly DJ Neophyte & Tha Playah - Still Nr. 1 Tha Playah - Fuck The Titties (The Viper & Tommyknocker Remix) The Stunned Guys & Tommyknocker - Your Choice Ophidian & Ruffneck - So Many Sacrifices Noize Suppressor - Nobody Likes Tha Playah - Walking The Line Nitrogenetics - Pledge Of Resistance Dione - Beat Is Pumping DJ Mad Dog - Welcome Down Hard Creation - I Will Have That Power (The Stunned Guys Remix) Outblast feat Angerfist & MC Tha Watcher - Voice Of Mayhem Nosferatu - When Angels Cry Art Of Fighters - Nirvana Of Noise Angerfist - Incoming Neophyte Records All Stars - Adrenaline Evil Activities - Evil Inside Tha Playah - On The Edge Euromasters - Alles Naar De Klote (Neophyte & Evil Activities Remix) Neophyte & Drokz - Sloop Die Speakers! This is like a trip back in time! The golden years of Hardcore. Fight me in the comments if you disagree, but to me these years were the finest. And these three CDs do prove that. I do love each and every one of these CDs. Normally I would say I would prefer the early Rave, or early Millennium stuff, but after listening to this CD multiple times, I do have to amend my opinion, and give CD three my vote. Douse points to CD 3. Yes, I know I grew up with the early sound, but around 2006 to 2012 the sound became so sophisticated, exactly what I needed to hear. The early stuff is still highly appreciated by yours truly, but come on, the late Millennium years... the tunes released were so damn good! Let's talk about each disc. Disc one, mixed by Bass-D & Lady Dana, contains the finest early tunes. Have we heard these songs before? Yes, a gazillion times, but they still hold their value up to this day. These two legends know exactly what to play, and the outcome is a wicked imx. CD 2 is mixed by Promo and Catscan, and these legends also have a good ear for good quality tunes. What else is there to say? Well, maybe that the sound already became slightly rougher and harder, compared to the first disc. CD 3 is just a CD full of mind blowing tunes. The best of the best. Mixed by the Neophyte Records All Stars. Ok, here comes the tricky part: favourite tunes. I've divided them into three: one from each CD: - Lady Dana & Skorp vs Bass-D & King Matthew - The Execution - Angels Of Darkness - The Scorpion King - The Stunned Guys & Tommyknocker - Your Choice Is it one of the best Thunderdome CDs? Compared to the early work, yes. It's nicely mixed together, and not mashed up too much. Nicely balanced. Beat matched and everything. Not crammed in too many records just to fill the rear of the CD with track names. I will say 'yes'. But I haven't listened to the latest Thunderdome CDs: they might even be better than this one. But for now I would say 'yes' to the 'Golden Series'. - The Weeknd - 103.5 DAWN FM (2022)
The Weeknd, To me the GOAT (greatest of all time). The older generation might have other artists as their greatest, like Madonna, Michael Jackson, Prince, etc. But for me it's the Weeknd. He's to me the best ever. An artists who's music touches my soul. He's an artist who I've only discovered a few years ago, by accident. But after that initial discovery, I fell in love with the music, and have streamed hours of his music. Literally, hours. And I've spent hours on YouTube watching his videos, which always made me watch them in awe. Not your standard videos, and this throwback feeling to the 80s/90s. And by an artist who's telling us a story. A story so deep and heartfelt, you cannot turn your head away from it: you feel like you need to investigate this persona he's singing about. You need to know what happened at his past, present, and future. And the future is now, with 'Dawn FM' Dawn FM. With a very special host taking you through purgatory (if you haven't Googled it yet, it's Jim Carrey!) I've done a bit of my own research, and slowly I start to understand the message behind the Weeknd's story he's telling us. The majority of it is still wrapped in a mysterious blanket, but we will surely in the future know more about his latest album and the album before that, and the character he's portraying. But he's an interesting character, to say the least. One that has his fair share of pain and agony, and now in purgatory is turning toward the end of life, but has to look back at what was the root cause of his heartache, and accept everything before being allowed into Heaven. I could be completely wrong, and he's just a cool producer who loves to make sexy 80s inspired songs, without any meaning. But surely there's a lot of hidden messages only the Weeknd/Abel knows. Before I loose myself into theories that probably don't make any sense, let's talk about this livestream the Weeknd did, in collaboration with Amazon Music back in Jan-22. Somewhere in Los Angeles a party happened, and I wish I was there. But I wasn't, and I have to rely on the YouTube video. If there's one artist I would pay to see, it would be the Weeknd. Why didn't they invite me, as I'm an Amazon user? Ah well, f**k it, at least we've got the full livestream. The concept is kind of 'simple', without being disrespectful: the Weeknd in the middle of the dancefloor, and he's playing the album 'Dawn FM'. He's not singing live, and there's no band playing his songs in the background. It's part of the journey he's created. He's there, on the stage, enjoying his own music. You can tell he poured his heart and soul into this album, and the result is a set/album full of love, dedication, acceptance, and also a lot of influences. Is it just me, or do I feel like he's the MJ of the present day? Close your eyes and hear him sing. MJ vibes, right? Just listen to 'Here We Go ... Again'. Fucking hell, he got the MJ sound nailed! Anyway, if you haven't seen the livestream, here's your chance. And which tunes were played? Well, it's his album, so here's the tracklist: The Weeknd - Dawn FM The Weeknd - Gasoline The Weeknd - How Do I Make You Love Me? The Weeknd - Take My Breath The Weeknd - Sacrifice The Weeknd - A Tale By Quincy The Weeknd - Out Of Time The Weeknd feat Tyler, The Creator - Here We Go ... Again The Weeknd - Best Friends The Weeknd - Is There Someone Else? The Weeknd - Starry Eyes The Weeknd - Every Angel Is Terrifying The Weeknd - Don't Break My Heart The Weeknd feat Lil Wayne - I Heard You're Married The Weeknd - Less Than Zero The Weeknd - Phantom Regret By Him I have seriously been listening to this NON-STOP. I wouldn't say my plays have done anything to the millions of plays already, but I've certainly had some kind of impact, be it very small. But trust me when I say that I will listen to this livestream until I'm at purgatory! This set is just sublime, and magical. The crowd at this event are loving it a lot. At first I thought 'what are they all having over their mouths', but they are see through masks. COVID is still a fucking bitch. But they are loving it a lot, and so is Abel/the Weeknd. He is like a painter looking at their masterpiece, he's just standing on this stage, hoovering over the crowd, dancing, enjoying the album he's created. You can tell everyone involved is enjoying 'Dawn FM'. It's an experience you have to understand. You have to feel the songs he's made. You need to have the words touch your soul. Basically, you need to fully surrender yourself to the Weeknd, and I'm doing that right now. My soul is touched, and my heart is filling up with emotions. His voice is just something else. Seriously something else. Can't describe it, but his voice is smoothening. Smooth as hell. He can hit the high notes, and every word is filled with emotions. He could even sing about lettuce and toe fungus, and he would still make it sound so sensual. You can tell he's been influenced when he was a little Weeknd by other artists, but even the songs are so recognisable. Most people would say it's 80s inspired, but I do hear so much influences, not just the 80s. Also the early Daft Punk sound can be heard here. A bit of disco, new Wave.. he has tapped into our musical history, and his songs have got this distinctive sound we all know and love, but maybe we should call it '80s in a new jacket' sound? The set starts off strong, with Jim Carrey's voice getting us ready for the adventure ahead. He also can be heard at the end. Is that the moment when purgatory is behind the character, and he's going into Heaven? Never thought I'd appreciate Jim's smooth voice. Everyone seems to enjoy the set, and dance throughout it all. This should be the start of something special. The world needs The Weeknd to come out, and embrace the love from all the fans. We need him to perform near us, and share the love behind Dawn FM. The tracks are solid, very solid, and the Weeknd's voice is just sublime. Another level. There are so many timeless classics on here (I call it a classic album, even thought it's only been out a month-ish). Not a fan of Tyler, The Creator or Lil Wayne's voices, bit too raw for my liking, but they still give each song they work on something special. Even the Weeknd's rough voice at the beginning of 'Gasoline' can become very intoxicating. I choose 'Starry Eyes' as my favourite. Which one is your favourite? If you haven't seen this set yet, make sure you go to YouTube or Amazon Music and check it out. You won't know what hit you. The Weeknd has got something to say to us all, and we should all listen to what he has to say. What's your theory? What do you think he's saying to us all? - DJ Son - Buzzy The Fuzz (2022)
DJ Buzz Fuzz. A name linked to the early rave years. A legend on his own, and also when collaborating with others, like Gizmo, Dano, and The Prophet. I never had the pleasure to hear Buzz Fuzz play live, which seems a shame, as his tunes from the 90s were exactly those anthems that got me through the 90s. He wasn't just a DJ and producer of Hardcore music: he was Hardcore! If it wasn't him that released tunes, it was his alter egos Pino D'Ambini, Bertocucci Feranzano, Bigguz Dickuzz, Tony Salmonelli, etc. He was a huge force in the scene, and has given us gabbers many memorable tunes. Even in 2022 you can listen to a Buzz Fuzz track, and it will still give you goosebumps! This man has been in the scene for many years, and his contribution has been tremendous. He is certainly in my top 10 best producers of all time-list. As mentioned before, his contribution has been legendary. If you bought a CD and you saw his name on it, or one of his aliases, you knew you wouldn't be disappointed. It's Buzz Fuzz, for fuck sake. The legend behind many memorable tunes such as 'King Of The Beatz', 'Jealousy Is A MF', 'Murphy's Law', 'Minds Over Matta', 'Frequencies', Millennium', and the list goes on and on. But he wasn't just a good producer: he was an excellent remixer. He's remixed many epic songs from artists such as Chosen Few, Lenny Dee, Promo, The Masochist, and it just goes on and on. It surprises me why it has taken this long for such a mix to be put online. DJ Son's appreciation mix contains a lot of Buzz Fuzz tracks, which tickles my pickle. Nearly 2 hours of just Buzz Fuzz. You can't wish for anything else, if truth be told. If you think of Early and Millennium rave, you think of Buzz Fuzz. Obviously DJ Son could have picked more records, but then the mix would be too damn long. Or wouldn't it be? You be the judge. So which 25 Buzz Fuzz classics are in this mix? And do you think these are Buzz Fuzz's finest records? Rotterdam Terror Corps - The Horror (Buzz Fuzz Remix) Buzz Fuzz - X-Cited The Masochist - Anticipation (Buzzy's Antimix) Square Dimensione - The Professionals (Buzz Fuzz Remix) Buzz Fuzz - King Of The Beatz (Buzzy's Remix) Buzz Fuzz - Just Another Hum-Drum Buzz Fuzz - Millennium Buzz Fuzz - Don't U Cry Buzz Fuzz - Buzzness = Buzzyness Buzz Fuzz - No Good 4 Me Buzz Fuzz - Untitled (Wonderwall Hardcore Remix) Buzz Fuzz - Frequencies Delirium & Buzz Fuzz - Immortality Masoko Solo - Pessa Pessa (Buzz Fuzz Remix) Lenny Dee - The Dreamer (Buzz Fuzz Remix) Promo - Kill The Noize (Buzz Fuzz Remix) DJ Waxweazle - Hardcore Power '97 (Buzz Fuzz Remix) Buzz Fuzz - Dreamgirl (Just A Buzzy Dreammix) Buzz Fuzz - The One Eyed Slut Buzz Fuzz - Alphabet Soup Buzz Fuzz - Howareyaah Chosen Few - Name Of The DJ (Buzz Fuzz Remix) Pino D'Ambini - Up & Down Ballz (Buzzy Goes BZRK Mix) Buzz Fuzz - Fuck Happy (It's Bullshit!) Buzz Fuzz - Jealousy Is A Motherf*cker Looking at the tracklist it makes me happy. There's so much Buzz Fuzz in here. This just cements him as an absolute early Rave and Millennium Hardcore superstar. Back in the 90s and early 2000s I would buy CDs, and if it has his name on it, I would just buy it without checking it twice. Buzz Fuzz's productions just suited me so well, and is what made rave harder and stomp harder. His productions are basically Hardcore at its best. Name one producer with such a distinctive back catalogue and so many dancefloor smashers. Name one... DJ Son's mix is tight. Good selection of Buzz Fuzz records. Still miss a few classics though. And his Happy Hardcore productions, boy, they were classics too! Would I prefer the happier side of Buzz Fuzz, or the harder side? Oh, that's a tricky one, but the happier side suited me more. Closely followed by his 'normal' Hardcore songs. They are both equally as cool as fuck, but he was damn good making Happy Hardcore tunes too. I really enjoyed this throwback to the 90s. And it made me sad at the same time. I wish I could have seen him perform live, and hear his classics come flying at me through the speakers. The track that speaks to me the most, is the 'Alphabet Soup'. Still reminds me of Mysteryland 1998 Indoors. That CD was just immense. And it also included 'Millennium'. Imagine hearing that tunes, with thousands of ravers surrounding you. Would have given me goosebumps. A fantastic mix, a good start of the week. And it's time to acknowledge Buzz Fuzz's impact on the scene. Praise the Lord, praise Buzz Fuzz! - Duck Sauce Presents: Duck Tape (2014)
The day after Valentine's day is always a weird day, right? The whole house smells of flowers, and chocolate wrappers are everywhere. Or chocolate residue. In my case I got sent the wrong flowers with the wrong card attached to it. But whatever's the case, you are currently still feeling the love from yesterday, so let's continue being happy and romantic. To improve your current mood, let's talk about Duck Sauce. You might know of their existence from their big hit 'Barbra Streisand', or 'Big Bad Wolf', or even 'It's You', or 'anYway'. Yeah, you know who I'm talking about, and not what I'm talking about, which is the actual sauce you pour over a duck. I have to be honest with you all: I'm not a duck lover. Don't like to have Donald on my plate, or to have its sauce. Chicken? Fine. But no duck. But Duck Sauce on the other hand I can tolerate. I am a fan of Armand van Helden, from his early years until now. From his early work until his album 'Killing Puritans' (which was kind of revolutionary, with a chilling cover and fucked up encrypted text on the side and back of the album), to the present day music. A-Trak I'm not familiar with, but I do know that this combination works, this collaboration. They obviously had huge success with the previously mentioned songs, and last year they uploaded their 'Duck Tape', which was released back in 2014. And it's an hour taken from their BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix from Oct-13. I used to listen to a lot of BBC Radio 1, and devoured a lot of Essential Mixes, but sadly missed this one. I had a craving for sexy house music the other day, and I came across this mix, and now I'm full into their Duck Tape. Is it the best thing since sliced bread? Well, that's up to you to decide. But if you are looking for something quirky, and quacky, Duck Sauce have got your back! Duck Sauce - Intro Gene Dunlap - This One On Me Glass - Let Me Feel Your Heartbeat Salsoul Invention - Be My Soul Belle Epoque - Drink Me Duck Sauce - Calamari (Put The Sauce On It) D.D. I'm not a House connoisseur, but I do know if a song is good or not. And Duck Sauce's mix, as weird as it might be, has a few very sexy House songs in it. This is a very easy listening mix. Is it quirky too? Hell yeah. It's like they jump from one 'style' to the next, BPMs can be slightly different, but Duck Sauce don't care. They are having fun, and bringing the funk through your speakers. They do know how to bring the funk everywhere, and I'm enjoying myself a lot here. There were a few songs in the mix which I wouldn't choose, but in a strange way they did fit this mix rather well. But on the other hand they did have a shit ton of great House anthems in here, one of them being 'Calamari'. If this song doesn't make you want to bust a groove (I'm trying to talk like hipsters, does it work well?), nothing will. What a catchy song. It's even catchier than 'Barbra Streisand'. A good mix, and one you can enjoy during your working hours. This will give you enough energy to see the weekend come closer and closer by the second. We need more Duck Sauce. - Valentine's 2022 UK Hardcore Mixtape (12.02.22)
Today is Valentine's Day. The whole world will come together, and buy every bunch of roses, and boxes of chocolate. Me? I'm sitting here at home, with a bag of mini carrots. How Hardcore is that, eh? Nah, all jokes aside, me and the wife had a fantastic dinner at Gordon Ramsay's restaurant in East London last Saturday. Hope you all had a wonderful weekend, and if you've forgotten about today, make sure you head to your nearest service station, and get some flowers and chocolates. If, for whatever reason, you can't, maybe you can present Alex Threat's latest mix as an alternative? This whole mix is focussed around Valentine's day and the love surrounding it. So you can imagine that all the tracks have got a romantic touch to each and every one of them. All UK Hardcore anthems, with a splash of love here and there. Some well known dancefloor anthems, and some I've not heard before. But let Alex take you on this romantic journey, and enjoy these wonderful anthems. I'm not a Valentine connoisseur, but I know for sure what love is.(OMG sound like the narrator of Love Actually). And as weird as it might seem, UK Hardcore and love go hand in hand, literally. It's one of those styles which works well with vocalists. And boy, do they love romantic lyrics? Compared to the Dutch counterpart, where everything is 'fuck this, fuck that', the UK Hardcore side is a bit more 'soppier' and 'happier'. Love it though. So how much love is in this mix? Is this enough love for you today? Will this be played in your household today, and maybe in the bedroom, to spice things up?? Eclipse feat Lisa Marie - Hearts Desire Oxygen feat Andrea Britton - Am I On Your Mind (Darren Styles & Re-Con Mix) Fallon - Paradise Ramos, Punch & Protocol feat MC Drew & Deanne - Call Me Baby D:CODE feat Emma - Out Of My Hands (Squad-E Remix) Technikore feat Nathalie - Yours Tonight (MOB Remix) Gareth Emery feat Christina Novellli - Concrete Angel (Darren Styles & Chris Unknown Remix) Defekt & XIO feat Gemma Macleod - Dreamworld Gisbo & Burn feat Gemma Macleod - Destiny Scott Brown - Break You Softly (Brett Cooper & Chaos Evolution Mash Up) Damaged & Gisbo feat Dahni-Bria - You're Amazing Bubble & Paul Manx feat Feilding - Valentine Bananaman & Gisbo feat Nia - Can't Believe You're Mine B.A.S.S. - Teenage Kiss N-Force vs Darren Styles - Right By Your Side (Gammer Remix) Breeze vs Squad-E feat Justine - Another Smile Angel Eyez - Twilight (Fallon, Burn & Al Storm Remix) Paul EP & Smithy feat Becci - Walk On Water Darren Styles feat Molly - Never Forget You I am sitting here, alone in my office (wife's at work too, but at work, not at home), and I'm smiling. So blessed to have a wonderful wife who tolerates me for who I am. I should consider myself lucky. There's only one thing that isn't perfect: her love for UK Hardcore, or lack of. It would have been great to play this mix to her when she comes back home, but she's not into UK Hardcore, so I have to get her some flowers and chocolate instead. And if I play this in the bedroom, she would rip of my testicles. So at the moment I'm enjoying this on my own, and I'm liking the tunes selected by Alex. It's a mixture of well known tunes, and forgotten tunes. And they might sound a tad soppy (love this, love that), but today it doesn't matter. It's all about love, and what you should embrace (the one you love). It's not just the one you sleep with, but also the people you love. Family and friends. Don't be afraid to share the love and happiness today! Normally I would say some positive and negative things, but today I won't. Yes, this mix has got a few tiny errors, but I will brush them underneath the carpet, and give only praise to Alex. A very nice mix with big anthems. I have to say that 'Teenage Kiss' was a surprise to hear. Not heard this one before, but it's made me the happiest out of all 19 tracks. A nice romantic mix. Thanks Alex Threat for setting the mood today! Have a wonderful Valentine's Day everyone! - Tommyknocker @ Ghosttown 2 Decades (2013)
The weekend has finally landed! And now we go 8 years back in time. Ever heard of Ghosttown? Ever been to one of their events? I sadly haven't, but I've heard of them, and reviewed many sets taken from this event series. It you love your Hardcore, this is the place to be, since 1992. They've been pushing Hardcore forward, and for their event in 2013, at the Central Studios in Utrecht, they had a killer line-up, a serious killer line-up. The line-up is basically full of legends. I would have given an arm and a leg to be at this event, fuck me what an insane line up! It was split into two areas: the Ghosttown area and Hard Alliance. The first area was focussed on the 'early Hardcore' from 1992 to 1999, and the DJs were: The Dreamteam, Placid K, The Masochist, Dr. Rude, Predator, Paralyser, Pavo, Rob & MC Joe. Amazing, isn't it? Well, area 2 had the following DJs: Nosferatu, Korsakoff, Amnesys, Tommyknocker, D-Tune, and Vince. And it's Tommyknocker's set is the one I'm discussing today. Tommyknocker has always been my favourite Italian producer, His tunes are absolutely fucking brutal to the core, and have been a stable force of excellent 'Millennium' sounding Hardcore. Well, that's a fucking dumb statement, because he just made Hardcore during the Millennium years. But what I'm trying to say, is that his Millennium Hardcore tracks were, and still are, the finest out of Italy. His discography is something that many producers should be jealous of, and his set at Ghosttown shows the world why he's the undisputed king of the Italian Millennium Hardcore sound. He's the king. Is that maybe a bold statement? Nope, fuck that. I stand by what I just said. Disagree? Have you even been to a rave and heard Tommyknocker? Have you been alive during the Millennium years? Have you actually listened to this Ghosttown set? Tommyknocker - Revolution Tommyknocker - Hurricane Endymion - Payback (Tommyknocker's Yes I Am Remix) Tha Playah - Fuck The Titties (The Viper & Tommyknocker Remix) Art Of Fighters & Tommyknocker - Follow Me Tommyknocker - Criminal Tommyknocker - Minimix (Mashup) Tommyknocker - Learn From The Pain Tommyknocker - Demolition Tommyknocker - Nocturnal Rituals The Stunned Guys & Tommyknocker - Your Choice Tommyknocker -Domination The Viper & Tommyknocker Feat MC Da Mouth Of Madness - The Prophecy Unfolds (Tha Playah Remix) Tommyknocker - Minimix (Mashup) Tommyknocker - T-2012 Hard Creation - I Will Have That Power (The Stunned Guys Remix) Art Of Fighters - Earthquake Skrillex vs Knife Party - Bonfire Tommyknocker feat The Wishmaster - Supernatural Tommyknocker vs Sunbeam - Twisted World (The Viper Mash-up Mix) This is pure porn for those Hardcore fanatics who adore the Millennium sound. You must agree with me: Tommyknocker certainly knows how to produce excellent tunes, right? Each and every track made or remixed by him in this mix is just a contender for the best track from the 2000s. He was, and still is the best. I did find this set a few days ago, and on my way home from work, I started listening to this, and I had the volume on max. Seriously, on max. My speakers are now making this crackling noise, which isn't healthy, if I'm honest. But you cannot listen to this kind of music at a low volume. If you saw me driving on the M25 on Thursday around 5pm, I do apologise. But not for the music, but for my behaviour. This is a truly amazing set. Most people would say that 'Twisted World' or 'Revolution' is their favourite, but for me 'Your Choice' has to be the best tune ever made! That song has got so much oomph and power behind it. And whenever it goes to the bit 'you got to make your choice, motherfucker', I loose myself completely, and scream from the top of my lungs. A blinding set, and a gorgeous one to start your weekend with! - All Time Ibiza Trance Classics Mix (2020)
A quick browse on Youtube, and voila: a new mix found! It is that easy, and very simple. But it's tricky to separate the good ones from the bad/dodgy ones, or the ones without a tracklist. So I do spend some time on it, listening and looking at the info provided. No tracklist? No review. Simple AF. And today's mix has got everything right: a tracklist, glorious tracks, and good genre of music. Mixed by Hedonistik Ritual, who I mainly know of playing Freeform music. So it was nice to see and hear this mix... And as weird as it might sound, I've never been to Ibiza. Yes, most of my 'friends' did go to Ibiza during the late 90s/early 2000s, but I didn't. My parents dragged me instead to Greece, which isn't bad either, but not a good place to go out clubbing (if your parents are there too). Sadly never been to Ibiza, but there's thousands of videos online, which make me question if going to Greece was a good or bad decision. It seems that Ibiza was (and is) the place to be. But even though I've not been to Ibiza, I can imagine what kind of music would be played there. And looking at the tracklist I knew instantaneously that these were tunes that would be played out loud on this island. The tunes weren't exclusively played in Ibiza, as they were world wide dancefloor fillers, but yeah, they do have this Ibiza feeling surrounding them. You are wondering which tracks I'm talking about? Well, time for me to show you the tracklist. It's a short one, but one that packs a punch! Chicane feat Marie Bennan - Saltwater Avatar & Atlantis - Fiji (Lange Remix) Veracocha - Carte Blance Push - Universal Nation (Ferry Corsten Remix) Three Drives - Greece 2000 Matt Darey - Liberation (Ferry Corsten 1999 Remix) Rank 1 - Awakening Art Of Trance - Madagascar (Ferry Corsten Remix) BBE - Seven Days And One Week Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar (Three N One Remix) Gouryella - Gouryella William Orbit - Barber's Adagio For Strings (Ferry Corsten Remix) Robert Miles - Children A short, sweet, and powerful tracklist. And it's a good mix to listen to, if you want to go back in time, to the glorious years of the late 90s/early 2000s. Hedonistik Ritual has done a marvellous job, his selection is really good, and it seems that 260k+ listeners agree. The comments on this mix are really amazing, but I've got to agree. But here comes the miserable Dutchman and his stupidity; I truly dislike Robert Miles' 'Children'. You cannot listen to a 90s radio station without it being played, or stream a 90s playlist, or listen to a 90s mix. This song is haunting me, and I believe that due to radio overkill this song has lost its strength (to me personally). When it was new, it was exciting, but now it's just one of those records you just don't want to hear for a few years, to like it again. And also Ferry Corsten's remix of 'Universal Nation'. Nothing, and I mean nothing can top the original, which is an all-time Trance classic. But now the positives. The tracks are good though. Yeah, not 'Children', but all the others are. And another thing that you have to acknowledge: during the 90s and early 2000s, Ferry Corsten dominated everything. Whatever he touched, turned into Gold. Be it alone, or with Tiesto (as Gouryella). In this mix, his version of William Orbit's 'Barber's Adagio For Strings' is just sublime. A very enjoyable set by Hedonistik Ritual. Really enjoyed it. And it makes me want to go to Ibiza right now, and experience what millions of people experienced before me. - Hard Beats Collective Presents 'Bonfire Beats' Mixed By DJ Solution & Greg Peaks (2012)
Funny story: I wasn't even looking for Freeform music, but I was listening to an Ibiza Trance classics mix earlier, and one of the tracks was 'Fiji'. Now I do know 1000% that this was turned into a Freeform record, but to find it that easily, that's a task and a half. So I started looking for the track, and went onto Discogs, Soundcloud, and after NOT finding what I was looking for, I stumbled upon this old mix by Solution and Greg Peaks from 2012, Was this the year they organised the event in London, at the Lightbox? Whenever it was, I was there, and this was the kind of the music played. And it was fucking glorious! Why is this now nearly 10 years old, yet it feels like the tunes used in this mix are only a few years old, not a freaking decade? I remember the event like it was yesterday, and I do remember the music from around 2012. I devoured the music like it was nothing! The music was so freaking epic, and even 10 years later it's still quality music. Would I prefer the Freeform music from 2012 or 2022? Oh, that's a difficult question, but hand on heart, 2012 would win. Solution and Greg Peaks do not require an introduction: they are household names in the Freeform scene, and when they made this back in 2012, they obviously used their combined talent, knowledge, and Freeform expertise to fabricate this mix. And the tracklist does reflect exactly that: the finest Freeform tracks money could buy (back in 2012). Evanescence - My Immortal (Endemic Remix) Grimsoul - Pyromaniac Firefighter Rik Arkitech - Fulla Culture A.B & Laith - MindBender Greg Peaks - Better Than You Torpex & pHate - Panic Ephexis - Fracture (Hyped Remix) Douglas - Ice Cream Rik Arkitech - Truly One A.B & Solution - Inception Transcend - Artificial Douglas & Remane - Disorder (A.B's London Techno Remix) Ephexis - Alien Sonic A.B - Stay With Me (Greg Peaks' Funked In The Sun Remix) Rik Arkitech - When Tears Fall Nick 235 & Rhona - Stand Alone Transcend - Domination Lost Soul - Twisted Dream Substanced - Ghost Of The Future Do you remember these songs? Can you believe it, these are 10-ish years old! I cannot understand where the time has gone to. And how come it's been 10 years since I went to ILHB? Before I become too emotional and start talking nonsense, let's talk about this specific mix. If you are reading this and are thinking 'ILHB are back with a new event', nope. You are 10 years too late. This mix is just to reminisce what were are currently missing. The Freeform from the early 10s. Both Solution and Greg Peaks did their best to make this mix, and I'm enjoying it today, nearly 10 years later. It still packs a punch. There are so many big tracks in here. Too many to mention. But one things for sure: A.B dominated fucking everything! Oh my God, his productions are seriously insane. But I have to disappoint him: it's not one of his tracks which is my favourite. It's Rik Arkitech's one. And if you know I went to ILHB's event, you will know immediately which track it is, if you've seen the promo video? No? 'Truly One'. Come on. That's a big beast of a track. A fantastic mix. A true throwback mix for those Freeform fans out there. This mix should get more plays, more than it already has. More = better = more Freeform fans! Ps. what happened to HBC? - Trance Classics: Event Anthems Edition (2021)
As you all know, I'm a huge Trance lover. Especially the Trance released after the year 2000. Why, you might ask? Well, that's because of the fact that I was still young back then, and it was the music that dominated my late teen years. After Hardcore music slowly went underground, something needed to fill the empty void, and Trance was there for me at the right time. Over the decade of reviewing, I've written a lot about Trance mixes I've found, Like Hardcore takes me back to the 90s, Trance takes me back to the Millennium years. And also because of the fact that I went raving a lot during those years, and Innercity, Sensation, Mysteryland and more were the events I visited. So this Millennium sound always makes me feel special, just a bit more than older or newer Trance music. And for a strange reason I've not come across a mix that contained just anthems from those events I've visited. But today is a good day. K-CLUB-S uploaded a mix last year onto Soundcloud, containing only the big hits from events such as Sensation, Trance Energy, Global Gathering, Dance Valley, etc. And seeing those tracks all in one mix, it just makes my spine tingle. It gives me a good feeling on the inside, and when I close my eyes, I can picture myself again, raving the night away, among tens of thousands of ravers. Obviously over the years I've heard these songs in many mixes, but they were always on their own, but never together in one mix. Only the anthems and nothing else. So when I was doing my exercises yesterday and I needed to have something that would give me enough energy, I came across this mix, and had to check it out. The session went well, and therefore I had to show you what's in this mix. Just have a look at these gems, these forgotten classics (some are completely forgotten about!) System F - Dance Valley Theme 2001 Sander van Doorn - Renegade Rank 1 - LED There Be Light The Rush (Sensation) - The Anthem 2004 DJ Joop - The Future Rank 1 - Airwave Marco V - In Charge Menno de Jong - Ancient Mysteries Push - Universal Nation Jochem Miller - Chromatic (Emporium Mix) Rank 1 - Beats At Rank-1 Dotcom Marcel Woods - Advanced Push - Strange World (2000 Remake) Svenson & Gielen - The Beauty Of Silence Pulser - My Religion (Lange Mix) Svenson & Gielen - We Know What You Did Rank 1 feat Shanokee - Such Is Life Svenson & Gielen - Twisted Cygnus X - Superstring (Rank 1 Remix) Ricky Fobis - No Regular The Rush (Sensation) - The Anthem 2002 Cygnus X - The Orange Theme That's a very good looking tracklist. It could have been a longer mix, because there were plenty of excellent tunes released around the start of the Millennium. And I remember them like it was only yesterday. Still can't believe it's roughly 20 years ago-ish when these songs were released. Time does fly by too darn quickly. Obviously for me the best events were Sensation and Innercity, but that's just because I went there. Sadly never been to Dance Valley or Emporium. Or even Transmission or Global Gathering. So I might be a tad biased, but would you really want to start a debate? Can't we just all agree that the Sensation anthems were the dopest ones out there. Or do you think I'm wrong? OK OK, you've made a fair point. Push's 'Universal Nation'. An timeless classic, an anthem for the whole universe. It was a tad difficult to pick one of the 22 tracks used as my favourite though, but Push always lands on the top spot for me. Finest Belgian producer ever! The mix itself isn't great. Too many mistakes, too many transition errors. This mix would have been splendid, was it not for the mistakes. Got to deduct some points. But still be in the green due to the awesome tracks selected. - Promo & Boris Valeo Live @ Mysteryland 1998, Lingebos Vuren, 04-07-1998
The year is 1998. The glorious year of 1998. Do you remember what happened back in that specific year? Nearly 24 years ago a majestic event happened you might have heard of: Mysteryland Outdoor! And this Dutchman was there, raving the night away. I was only 14, and thought I'd conquered the world already, but when I stepped into the marvellous land called Mysteryland, my whole life changed drastically. It was their eight event, and I was there, raving the day away among 25.000 ravers (or was it 20.000? can't remember). The line-up was something else, and still holds its value to this day... Panic, Waxweazle, Prophet, 3 Steps Ahead, Masochist, Promo, Neophyte, Buzz Fuzz, Gizmo, Estroe, Michel de Hey, Da Goose, Steve Rachmad, Remy, Dano, Omar Santana, Thimbles, Erick-E, Yves DeRuyter, Spider Willem, PCP, Franky Jones, Rob Gee, The Darkraver, Roog, Mike Dunn, Joost van Bellen, Jurgen, Jean, Lady Dana, Drokz, Manu Le Malin, Akira, Noizer, Cixx, Paul Elstak, Pavo, and those are just a handful of names. Oh, and DJ Martijn Krabbe. WTF was he doing there? I want to say that I can remember like it was yesterday, but the more years pass by, the less I remember. A few sets I do remember are 3 Steps Ahead, PCP, Rob Gee, The Masochist, and the rest is a blur. Remember, I was only 14 and all on my own (long story though, don't have the patience to explain it), and with a few hundred guilders in my pocket. I'm 38 now, and I've got difficulties to remember what I ate last night. But what I do remember is that it was my first big rave, and it opened doors for me. Or, I opened doors, as I was bitten by the rave bug. After the event, ID&T released the CD and VHS (who remembers those), and on the first disc it contained the livesets from both Promo, and Boris Valeo. Want to know something stupid? I always thought Boris was Promo with a Russian hat on. But yeah, that could be found on the event CD, and on the second disc it contained a few livesets from 3 Steps Ahead, The Masochist, Neophyte, Rob Gee & The Natas, and Marc Acardipane feat Da TMC. I still highly recommend this disc, as it's my most precious one in my collection. So to see the first disc being presented as a liveset on Soundcloud isn't technically true. Yes it was, but it was taken from Thunderdome Live Recorded @ Mystery Land 1998. Whatever you might call this, at least it's Promo, and Boris Valeo live! And that's all that matters. The tracklist is literally on the back of the CD, but if you've missed it, here it is: DJ Promo Junk Project - Revolve B.O.N.Y. - The Anvil DJ Glenn vs Voltage Club - Wake Up For The Toxic Beat Kinky Boys - Gunshot (DJ Da Rick's Hard Mix) Klangwerk - Fireman (Original Mix) After Hour - Yah K.K. (Original Mix) E-Rick & Tactic - La Musica Bomba Scott Brown - Don't Stop The Rock E-Rick & Tactic - Meet Her At The Thunderdome (DJ Mix) G-Town Madness meets Attic & Styles - The Legacy Continues Tschabos - Gib Mir Die Bass (Noch Korrekter!!!) Marshall Masters - Master Anthem (Rave Anthem) The Hardcore Brothers - Can You Thrill Me? Darrien Kelly & Unknown MC - The People Want More (Original Edit) The Masochist - No Newstyle? DJ Dione - NRG (Remix) T-Wisted - Listen To Da Rhythm (Original Mix) Darrien Kelly & Omar Santana - Bounce It Like This (Darrien Kelly's Back 2 The Future Mix) DJ The Viper - Hardcore Gangster (DJ Promo Remix) Brain Acardy - Wayz Of Da Underground DJ Promo - Can't Hold Me Down Boris Valeo Boris Value - USSR National Anthem The Nightraver - So The Hardcore Brothers - Smoke Motherfuckers Cixx vs The Vinyl Junk - Bounce 'N Shake DJ Sim - Simbiosis Jones & Stephenson - The First Rebirth Final Analysis - El Punto Final (Power Mix) Omar Santana - Necronomicon Pino D'Ambini - Up & Down Ballz Now that's a tracklist and a half, isn't it? But it's not just the tracklist that does it, but the memories I've got. And there are plenty of those! My first rave ever, and we even beat Argentina during a football match (not into football, but still ace to hear thousands of ravers scream 'HOLLAND' out loud). The tracks were so 11997-1998-ish. And damn good. Both Promo and Boris Valeo did their best to get the crowd to loose themselves, and even in 2022 I'm sitting here with a smile on my face, as I know what happened at Mysteryland, and how awesome it was. These two sets do reflect exactly my first rave, and they both played the finest anthems out there. When I first bought the CD, I wasn't sure about Promo's first few tracks. As they were a tad soft, a bit mellow. But slowly he was working toward a moment when the beats, bass, and melody would burst through the speakers. And I've grown accustom over the years to Promo's mix. Boris does what Boris does best. Wicked intro, and then the darker Hardcore anthems. Don't actually know what happened to the act Boris Valeo, but thankfully it's been capture on disc, and goes with me forever and forever. I still love these sets. Were they perfect? From a nostalgic point of view, yes. Memories. You cannot take them away. They will always be with me. And us ravers screaming HOLLAND. Goosebumps. Best track Promo? 'Welcome To The Thunderdome' Best track Boris Valeo? Easy, 'Simbiosis' Fuck, where did those 24 years go to? - Dy5on - Upfront & Vocal (2022)
Back in October I was 'introduced' to someone called Dy5on. The mix was made by the main contributor of the site, M@rt!n-J, and his mix got positive feedback from yours truly. The review got a lot of views (for this website it was a lot, as I'm not a professional blogger but a hobbyist), and it got me in contact with the face behind Dy5on. He even offered me a free vacuum cleaner, but I had to decline. Sorry, that was a lame joke. Really lame. But the truth is that I got in contact with Dy5on, and a few days ago he reminded me of a new album he made. 'Upfront &Vocal'. So obviously I had to jump on the bandwagon, or in this case the bandcamp. I completely missed the release of this album, as I'm not on bandcamp anymore for personal reasons. But Dy5on being the friendly neighbour on Facebook, he made sure I got the link to the page, and voila! There was his new album. And the album is split into two special editions: you've got the 'normal' version, and you've got the 'deluxe edition'. And it also depends on what you are into: are you into DJ friendly songs, or mixed songs? If you want, you can get the DJ friendly songs, or a mixed version of all the songs. Whatever is your preference, Dy5on has got your back! Me? I do prefer a mixed CD, more exciting. But as mentioned above, Dy5on has got you covered. But now we should talk about the album itself: the album looks great. The front of the album looks dope. I do recognise this style of artwork. Don't know what I'm actually looking at, to be fair? Looks like the inside of a pin ball machine? But it's not the album cover that should speak out loudly, it's the tunes on it. And on this disc you can find 15 massive vocal UK Hardcore tunes in the mix (or DJ friendly, again, whatever you fancy). The Deluxe version has got a few added tracks. If you needed more Dy5on in your life, I would suggest to go for the Deluxe version! OK, now the big question: what songs can you find on this album? Well, these: Michael Mansion - Do U Love Me (Dy5on Remix) Dy5on - Make It On My Own Dy5on - Up In Smoke Fracus & Darwin vs Dy5on feat Silver Angelina - In A Good Way (Dy5on Remix) Darwin & Dy5on - Lights In The Sky Dy5on feat Andy L - Losing Myself Dy5on - Why Oh Why Dy6on feat Silver Angelina - Don't Just Stand By Darwin feat Taya - Count To 10 (Dy5on's 2021 Remix) Dy5on - B The 1 (Original Mix) Darwin & Dy5on feat Bea Aria - You Are Still The One (Redux) Dy5on feat Danielle Hollobaugh - Your Love Survivor Dy5on - Sun Is Shining Michael Mansion - We Can Live Forever (Dy5on Remix) Dy5on - Under Midnight Michael Mansion - Do U Love Me (Dy5on Remix Radio Edit) Dy5on feat Silver Angelina - Don't Just Stand By (Radio Edit) Darwin & Dy5on - Lights In The Sky (Radio Edit) Dy5on feat Andy L - Losing Myself (Radio Edit) Dy5on - Sun Is Shining (Radio Edit) Dy5on - Under Midnight (Radio Edit) DBL & Dy5on feat Paige-Olivia - Up In Smoke (Radio Edit) Michael Mansion - We Can Live Forever (Dy5on's Remix Radio Edit) Dy5on - Why Oh Why (Radio Edit) Dy5on feat Joey Law - Slip Away (Radio Edit) This is a really amazing CD! I will purchase a physical CD, but not just yet, as we are currently sending all our money to our solicitors to sort out our mortgage, so currently I'm a tad skint lol. But as per previous review, I've made a list of everything I need to get, once funds are available. But how did I review this CD, you might wonder? Well, that's the magic behind bandcamp. It lets you listen to the songs. That's amazing. bandcamp is basically those horrible headset at your local CD store back in the 90s, where you could listen to an album before you buy it. Oh, those headsets were disgusting! Always caked in gel (as it was the 90s, and everyone had tons of gel in their hair), old earwax from the previous thousand listeners, and always one side would be distorted. Oh the glorious 90s. But yeah, bandcamp is the 2022 version of those crusty headphones. All jokes aside, let's focus on what Dy5on has to offer. A wicked mixed album, with 15 amazing records. Yes, the tracklist shows 25, but those are only for the elite, for those who are willing to purchase the Deluxe edition. But those 15 records are just what you need to hear. Proper UK Hardcore vibes. Proper HU vibes coming through my speakers now. He still has his own unique approach to UK Hardcore, but I do feel the Millennium sound so much, and I freaking love it! The vocalists used for this CD, they are just marvellous! And Dy5on's producing skills are really amazing. I really enjoyed hearing this album, and I think you should give this one a go too. It's worth the £12.99 or £15.99, depending on which edition you are going for. But this album is really, really good. Dy5on is certainly on my radar now, and even though I not heard of him before (maybe I have but not paid that much attention) before Oct-21, but I will certainly look out for everything by this man. Wicked, truly wicked album! - Hardcore Underground 8 - AoS Mix (2020)
Over the years HU have remained a steady force in providing the masses with UK Hardcore, and I've been to several locations, to see a few HU artists perform over the years. I've also purchased a lot of their stuff, mainly their HU compilation. I've devoured the CDs over the years, and the mixes were always excellent, well received, and well thought of. Not just some random DJ but well established names, like Brisk & Ham, Marc Smith & Al Storm. Fracus & Darwin, Slipmatt & Entity, Thumpa & Obie, Scott Brown & Chris Fear, Kurt & Stormtrooper. and a few more collaborations. But for the first time in its history, with the 8th instalment, they went the other way: no DJ collaborations, but three DJs on three discs. Disc one was mixed by Daniel Seven, second disc by Saiyan, and the third one by AoS. And it's the last disc which I'm focussing my review on today. I have to be honest here today, I've not bought any albums since 2018 I think. And I've not fully embraced the digital platforms yet. I've made some purchases here and there, but yeah, what I'm about to say might shock you, but I've not bought this 8th instalment of the HU series! Can you Adam and Eve it? Yes, I feel embarrassed as much as the next person, and I do thank AoS for making me aware that he's made this awesome mix, and it's featured on a massive CD compilation. Please forgive me, fellow HU fanatics. Well, it turns out I'm not that much of a fanatic, eh? AoS did release an EP many moons ago, which I reviewed, but he kindly mentioned to me that he's got a mix I should certainly check out. And here I am: listening to AoS' mix, Initially he mentioned his livestream mix, but he thought it would be worth to check out this HU8 mix instead. Good choice sir: I'm sitting here with a huge smile on my face, enjoying the mix a LOT. You might have seen his name here and there, and he's an up and coming DJ/producer in the UK Hardcore scene, and on this mixed CD you can find a few of his own records. So if you were not aware of who he is and what he's capable of, you will know him now and will admire his music. So, if you are like me, and sadly didn't purchase the CD when it was fresh as a daisy, here's the tracklist: AoS & Fracus - I Wanna Be With You (AoS HU8 Intro Mix) Chris Fear & AoS - Refused To Be Denied AoS & Angerzone - Bad Sensation Fracus & Darwin feat Jake - Make It Tonight Darwin & AoS - What R U Waiting 4 Fracus & Darwin vs S3RL - Moonlit Eyes Jack In Box - Perfect Love AoS & Newton Mea - Alive In The Night Jack In Box - Original Posse Mr. Ripley - Find Your Way Jack In Box & Fracus - Like This Claxton - Nu Dawn Maxi Malone - I Wanna Know You AoS & Claxton - Epiphany AoS - Find Me Contraption - Dreaming Of Another Way (Audio X Remix) It's been a while since I last heard a song by AoS, but compared to the EP I've reviewed many years ago, he has certainly progressed, and moved forward. A well established producer, and on this CD you can see he's been collaborating with a few big hitters like Claxton, Darwin, Chris Fear, and Fracus. I liked his mix a lot. A mixture of everything. Breakbeat? Yes. UK Hardcore? Yes. Drum & Bass? Check. But looking at the tracklist from the other DJs it shows diversity, which I highly recommend. It is nice if the mix is 'steady and safe', but sometimes diversity can uplift a whole set. It just makes it stand out a tad more, and AoS' mix is certainly something special. I really enjoyed it a lot, and it's given me enough confidence to visit HU's store and buy stuff. Well, maybe not today, as we are dealing with our mortgage etc, so any penny is saved in the pocket, but I've made a note, and will purchase this CD digitally and other HU albums I've missed. The mix is tight, and so are the songs. A nice and fresh CD with a lot of tracks that have this distinctive sound from the early 10s. A throwback mix CD with new records. How's that, eh? Best record? Pff, there are two. 'I Wanna Be With You' and 'I Wanna Know You'. Big songs. - DJ Delite - 180 4 Hardcore January '22
It's Saturday, a day to relax. Or for some, a day to get ready for the rave ahead. Whatever you are going to do this weekend, make sure you doing it safe and sound. But if you are going to a rave this weekend, have a lot of fun, and maybe this mix I'm about to show to you might get your hype level way up there. DJ Delite, who has been giving us many mixes over the years, has uploaded a brand-spanking new mix. Obviously it's not January 2022 anymore, but it's never too late to get excited, right. No joke, the last time I saw Delite, was back in Leamington Spa for Cwhynny's birthday party. God, that's a few years ago. Can't even remember when it was. But it's at least 4 years ago. He didn't perform there (Delite), but he was there, enjoying the music. It was cool as fuck, and different. But yeah, I've never had the opportunity to hear Delite play live. Is that a shame? Well, I wouldn't be able to answer that, as I'm not sure if it's any good. Have you ever seen/heard Delite live? If so, how was it? Please leave a comment below, but not if you are Delite. You can't rate yourself, dude! A couple of months ago I reviewed another Delite mix, and now he kindly reminded of his latest mix. It's jam packed with UK Hardcore, all played at 180 BPM. Can you handle 180 BPM? Is it too hard for you? Or is it just right for you? It all depends on the tunes selected by Delite. They could all be big club smashers, or stinkers. But Delite won't do that, surely? Only hit after hit? The tracklist for those who've not seen it on Soundcloud yet, here it is: Ben Nicky, Olly James & MC Stretch - We Are The Ravers Darren Styles & Gammer - Superhorn Komb & Tatsunoshin - For You (Ready For This) Stompy, Eazyvibe & Zetamale - Dance All Night Al Storm - Boomz & Bangz Darren Styles, Timmy Trumpet & Azteck - Dance Tonight Fracus, Darwin & Riffresh - Let Me Take You (Original Mix) Al Storm & Rob IYF - Falling Down (Raver Baby Revival Radio Mix) Da Tweekaz - White Lines Darren Styles & Tweekacore - Without You Cascada, Timmy Trumpet, Harris & Ford - Never Let Me Go Fracus & Darwin - Better Days Joey Riot & Violate - Bad Boyz 4 Life Gammer feat Hudson Mohawke - Quit Eazyvibe - Who Am I Al Storm & Malaya - Every time We Say Goodbye (Bananaman & Gisbo Radio Mix) Zetamale, Stompy & Eazyvibe - Grown Together Quickdrop - Blinding Lights Stonebank - The Power Technikore & Jörg Schmidt - Fusion Styles & Breeze - You're My Angel (DS VIP Extended Mix) Darren Styles - Save Me 2022 (DS VIP) Darren Styles feat Jelle van Dael - Need To Feel Loved Q-Tex - Power Of Love (Eazyvibe & Stompy 2021 Remix) Atmozfears & Sound Rush - Country Roads I've got to be a bit honest here: you all know I'm a huge fan of UK Hardcore, but I still need to adapt to the current phase it's going through. The music can be good, but it's just so different to what I'm used to. It will take me some time to get used to it fully and maybe appreciate it the same I do with the Millennium UK Hardcore sound. So I might be a tad harsh during this review, but at least you know the backstory, right? The last couple of weeks I've been going back in time, and been listening to some epic UK Hardcore mixes with records from around the 2000s, and if I compare Delite's mix to them, it's a completely different world. A lot of influences from other styles such as Hardstyle and EDM, and sometimes it works. And Delite has used a few wicked anthems in here, showing it can work. And it's nice to see a few names still kicking out the anthems, such as Darren Styles and Gammer, and they still know how to produce wicked rave anthems. There are some cracking anthems in here, and I love that they are keeping UK Hardcore interesting, even in 2022. It's a style of music that will never go away, just get use to it. And Delite's selection is really nice to see, but (uh oh, here's the miserable sod.... me!) I just don't know about revamping older anthems. Especially 'You're My Angel', 'Save Me', etc. You just don't need to change anything at all: the original tracks were already the best of the best! But then this mix also contains records I wasn't ready for. I'm not a fan of Da Tweekaz or Tweekacore, and most of their tunes are completely dreadful anthems (don't like that kind of cheese), but the track with DS 'Without You' is a big bad ass track. So they do know how to make a wicked anthem?? Who knew (lol). And now some criticism toward the Dutch. I know we like to muck about, but fuck me sideways: 'Country Roads' has to be the worst song coming out of the 'Hardstyle' scene ever made! I know it's not a serious song, but just don't make it. It does remind me of Fallout 76, which was also a shit game. Well, maybe you can enjoy it when it's the last track of the night and you are already out of this world... All seriousness aside, it's a very pleasant mix, with a few big songs, and a few stinkers, but still highly recommendable. And it's downloadable, so why not just click 'play' and see if my sarky comments are justified, or I'm just in need of a higher dosage of Sertraline? You tell me! - Claxton - 00's Vocal Power Anthems (2022)
After a short hiatus I'm back with a brand new mix for you all to discover. A mix with a lot of praise. A mix people weren't ready for, but once released, didn't realise how much they actually needed this mix. A mix filled with 2000s UK Hardcore anthems, focussed on the more vocally, melodic anthems, and it's mixed by Claxton. His name did appear on the previous website, but it's been quiet (or maybe I've not looked properly). No matter what happened, his latest mix is definitely causing a tremor among my FB friends. People seem to love his mix, and need this 2000 sound more than ever! I'm lately in this Happy buzz, I'm feeling the happiness all around me, and Claxton's mix suited me extremely well. I think I was actually the first to 'like' this mix, and saved it, to check out later. The tracklist initially blew me away, and it was the reason for me to check it out at a later stage. Today is the day. I needed a few days off not reviewing anything, but now I'm back, and because of Claxton, the UK Hardcore vibe is taking over again. And it's taking me back to the early Millennium years, the years that made me fall in love with UK Hardcore (sadly there's no such scene in The Netherlands, and I had to rely on CDs being sent to me). I was bitting by the UK Hardcore bug, and from that moment my love for this euphoric, happy, and vocally approach to Hardcore was exactly what was missing in my life. And it's those tracks similar to the ones used by Claxton that made me fall in love. The more uplifting stuff, and the vocally tracks. For this 77 minute long mix he selected 30 songs, and they are truly as vocally as you wanted them to be. If you are a fan of vocally UK Hardcore songs, stick around (and check out the tracklist). If you are not, are you even human? Lisa Abbott - Blow Me Away (Styles & Breeze Hardcore Mix) Dougal & Gammer vs Mickey Skeedale & Jenna - Guitar Hero vs Through The Darkness (Technikore Remix) Eclipse feat Lisa Marie - Hearts Desire (Original Mix) Al Storm & Orbit1 feat Lisa Abbott - Falling Through (Nu Foundation Remix) Brisk & Ham - Fire & Flames (Original Mix) Joey Riot & Technotrance feat Angel Eyez - Together Again (Sy & Unknown Remix) Phenex & Nu Foundation feat Le Kat - Power Of Goodbye (Nu Foundation Mix) Impact & Resist feat Lisa Abbott - All I Want (Sy & Unknown Remix) Brisk & Ham - In Your Life (Gammer Mix) Nysse & Hinton feat Pascale - Silverwater (Darren Styles Remix) Ultrabeat vs Hypasonic - You Will See (Re-Con & Squad-E Remix) Eclipse - Things You Do (Gammer Mix) Geos Crew feat Zara - Shine (Breeze Remix) Impact & Resist - Sunrise (JTS & Haze Remix) Weaver - Falling In (Hixxy Remix) Darren Styles & Mark Breeze presents Infextious - Let Me Fly (Styles & Breeze Remix) Dougal & Gammer feat Jenna - Paradise Chris Unknown & Re-Con - If You Surrender Audioscape & Kelly C - No More Rain (Sparky Hardcore Remix) Angel Eyez - Twilight (Deejay Bee & In Effect Remix) Weaver & Andy L feat Fran - Cannonball Technikore feat Alison Wade - Feel Alive (Original Mix) Dougal & Gammer feat Jenna - Heaven On Earth Brisk & Darwin - Never Been Away Fracus & Sam Honey - What It Feels Like Audiojunkie & Stylus feat Rach - Free (Hardcore Mix) Al Storm feat Taya - Stars Collide Fracus & Gavin G - Open Your Eyes To Love (Original Mix) Phenex feat Le Kat - So Naive Scott Brown & DMO - Really Need You (Original Mix) Oh my word! This is a must listen to mix if you are into the cheerful and happy UK Hardcore anthems that are filled with beautiful vocals by vocalists such as Jenna, Lisa Abbott, Kelly C, Lisa Marie, and more. They were literally the best vocalists out there, and co-shaped the UK Hardcore future. Which is funnily in the past right now. But during the Millennium years they were everywhere. And I do mean everywhere! And it was so damn good! The tracklist is phenomenal! And I mean it, from the bottom of my heart. You cannot put a price on this kind of music. For most people in the UK this was already the standard rave music, but for me this was all new (around 2003). And I think I jumped in at the right time. The music was great, and the vocalists were the finest you could ask for. So euphoric, so uplifting, so beautiful! Sad to think that these songs are already 'old'. This sound we don't hear that often anymore, and some artists have moved away from the scene entirely. Which is a shame. To me they are still legends, especially combos such as Dougal & Gammer, Brisk & Ham, Sy & Unknown, and more. Times have changed, but thankfully we've got the music to fall back onto. Claxton's mix is a good one. Nostalgia factor = 100%! At certain stages it does feel slightly rushed, and he wants to put as many tracks in the mix, but the majority of the mix feels just right. The music is just epic. It gives me a huge smile on my face. And I'm guessing it makes you smile too, if you have listened to this already. If you haven't, don't worry: just press play, and have smiles for miles. Oh, and it's downloadable too, so another bonus. Thanks Claxton for this mix. Really amazing. Breaks the week nicely. - Breakbeat Revolution 2 Mixed By Faz - CLSM (2012)
From a Happy Hardcore mix to a Breakbeat Hardcore mix. Oh, how small the world actually is. Many moons ago I'd already reviewed volume 1 of this mix series, but that review got lost somewhere (probably because my old website was a piece of shite and Trojan horses were bloody everywhere, so I had to shut it down). It has taken me a while to find volume 2, but yesterday I felt the need to hear some music by the mighty Breakbeat Lord called CLSM, and that search criteria led me to his Soundcloud channel, and one for the older mixes on it, was this one, done by DJ Faz. And as we all know, CLSM stands for 'Cuthbert the Legendary Studio Monkey', right (really had no fucking idea, but every day is a new day, and today I learned that bit of interesting trivia). But today it's not just about CLSM, it's about DJ Faz, who was the one that mixed this Breakbeat Revolution mix together.Sadly I couldn't find any more information regarding this DJ or this mix series online, so I've got to wait for someone to comment underneath this mix, so I can share it with you all. I don't know why it was only two mixes (as far as I've seen). Oh wait, I stand corrected: a third volume was released by CLSM (also mixed by Cuthbert), but after that one, it just stopped existing? Why stop? Everyone loves Breakbeat Hardcore, and we all love CLSM and all the other producers? Come on, maybe it's time for volume 4, or even volume 5, if you feel adventurous? So according to Faz's Soundcloud page this mix was made around 2012, but released a tad later. That should be a quick wake up call for us all: these tracks are at least 10 years old! Fuck me sideways!! Stargazer - Released (2010 Remix) Entity - Plan B Ponder - Monolith Bustin & Skampy - Under Mi Sensi Click - Alpha Dog Entity & CLSM - Footsteps Skampy - (Don't Make Me Get) Oldskool Entity & CLSM - Rudloe (Cold War City) (Breaks Mix) Entity - Stargazer (Reese Remix) Bustin & Skampy - Giant Dwarf TXC142 - Dying Lights Reese - Cross The Line CLSM - Pressure Rush (G-Tech Remix) StrifeII - Enough TC - Chasing Skies (Denile & Skampy Remix) Ponder - New Emotion StrifeII - Soul On Fire Yes, yes, yes! Breakbeat Hardcore! By artists who I absolutely adore. And this mix also awoken something deeply hidden in my mind: I did see Bustin & Skampy many years ago! It was the Hardcore Underground 6 tour, which landed them deep in Belgian territory. Alongside Fracus & Darwin, Ecsytie, Toxica, Bashir & Billy Bonka, and Tryxx. I was there! I do remember now. Back in 2013! Wow, that's also nearly 10 years ago. Time flies... too damn fast. This takes me right back. I was fully into Breakbeat Hardcore back then, and bought everything available. CLSM and his label was also a source of excellent music, and DJ Faz's mix is a very interesting one. A glimpse back in time, when Breakbeat Hardcore was everywhere, and I do mean everywhere. The sound released during the early 10s was so dope, really dope, and Faz's mix is just what I wanted to hear today. All the tracks are fucking epic, and all are carefully mixed together. A well received mix, that's for sure. And you might be wondering what else there is to say about this mix? Well, it's downloadable, free, and it contains 'Rudloe', such an underrated Breakbeat classic! I love the darker side of Breakbeat, especially when it's a track by both Entity and CLSM. A fantastic mix. A time capsule we all needed. Let's go back in time, and enjoy ourselves, and listen to what was hot back in 2012. CLSM, there's probably a very small chance of you reading this, but please please please, where's the tracklist for the third instalment, and will we ever see volume 4? - T.K.'s Early Hardcore (Pengo Records Edition) (2021)
I know, I KNOW. Two mixes focussed on Pengo Records in one week. Normally I would not do that, do this, but this week I just had to. I've been sitting here at home, enjoying this 90s buzz I'm currently experiencing, and Happy Hardcore is currently taking over everything. And when I say everything, I do freaking mean it. And this week it's all been about Pengo Records so far. But don't you worry: if you are getting sick of Happy Hardcore, I've got another mix review coming up, but this one being more focussed on Breakbeat Hardcore. If that's your cup of tea, make sure you check out our page in a few days. But let's talk Pengo again. Sorry for the repeat mention of this label (twice in one week so far, might even talk a third time, if I feel like it). This label was so influential during the 90s, and has released awesome records from the finest Happy Hardcore artists, such as 3 Steps Ahead, Buzz Fuzz a.k.a. Bertocucci Feranzano, 4 Tune Fairytales, Waxweazle, Critical Mass, Micado, and many more. If you were a fan when the Happy Hardcore genre was alive and kicking (between 1994 and 1998), you knew of its existence and you knew how important the label was. It was your source for your daily Happy Hardcore cravings! You were a lover, or a hater. There were a few songs out there that bashed the label into smithereens, but to me the label was not a failure. On the contrary, I'm still talking about it many years later. And I'm still loving the tunes a lot. I even got the wife slightly excited about Happy Hardcore, and that's saying something. Today's mix is brought to us by T.K. The whole mix is focussed on Pengo releases, so be prepared for some happiness coming through your speakers (and a bit of cheese too!) Critical Mass - Believe In The Future (Extended Mix) DJ Weirdo & DJ Sim - Pump That Stupid Bass (DJ Friendly Mix) The Beatsquad - Miles Of Smiles (Original Mix) DJ Waxweazle - Come With Me (Original Mix) 3 Steps Ahead - Money In My Pocket (Original Mix) The Prophet - Big Boys Don't Cry (Original Mix) Critical Mass - Dancing Together (DJ Waxweazle Remix) Cixx - Ride To The Rhythm (Extended Mix) DJ Weirdo & DJ Sim - Go Get Busy (Hardcore Edit) Mindtrust - Ravers Groove (Extended Version) Bertocucci Feranzano - XTC Love (Original Mix) Critical Mass - Burning Love (DJ Weirdo & DJ Sim 173,683 Remix) 4 Tune Fairytales - My Little Fantasy (Scarface's Remix) 4 Tune Fairytales - Take Me 2 Wonderland (Extended Mix) The mix is only 44 minutes long, but within those 44 minutes you get the finest songs from Pengo Records' back catalogue. And it's an impressive list of anthems. Sadly the label itself disappeared slightly from the scene when Happy Hardcore was killed off. It's legacy still remains alive and kicking in 2022. Fuck the haters, Pengo has succeeded and is still alive! You can't drown the penguin, no matter what you do! The tracklist is good. Really good. Some amazing records, but this is me repeating myself what I said in the other review. The only difference between the other review and this one, is the fact that T.K. selected a few other records too, including one that I really really love. 3 Steps Ahead's 'Money In My Pocket'. That song still give me goosebumps, even to this day! He has made a very nice mix, but sadly it does contain a few mixing errors, and at certain point is just doesn't run as smooth as you want it to be. A good attempt though, don't get me wrong. Another day, another Pengo mix. I'll hunt the internet for more. I know you want more, right? DJ: T.K. - Fracus & Darwinized! (The Vocal Mix) (2022)
It is Tuesday, time for some 'happy Hardcore'. And I don't say that lightly: every Tuesday is should be Happy Hardcore day. Let's make it official, right? And what a way to start this kickstarter idea by having a dedication mix to persuade you. A mix focussed on the mighty UK Hardcore producing duo Fracus & Darwin. If you are unfamiliar with these two names, you need to be educated. But don't worry, uncle TCD is here to help! And together we will make sure they gain more followers, as many as they deserve. But these two have been at the forefront of the UK Hardcore scene for many years, and their music have gained already a huge following all over the world. You might have seen a few reviews over the years. It was late 2000s when I discovered them, and I'm in possession of a few albums they have released over the years, and you can imagine a review here and there would appear. Over the years they have released brilliant albums, such as 'Balancing Act', 'Point Of No Return' , 'Diversions', and more. But not only that: they have released many awesome mixes on Soundcloud. And as they weren't busy enough: they've performed all over the world, including in a small picturesque youth club in Belgium (where I saw them). This isn't the first appreciation mix on Soundcloud, Youtube, or Mixcloud, but this is the latest one I found. And it's a special one, as it's focussed on the more melodic/vocally side of Fracus & Darwin. Not that they need vocalists, but it seems that their music always goes next level when they use vocalists. Don't get wrong, they have got some excellent non-vocal songs, but the vocal stuff is just mesmerising. Breathtakingly beautiful, and Alex Threat's latest mix contains only the finest vocal supported tracks. A mix you definitely don't want to miss! Fracus & Darwin feat Kayla - Freedom 2020 Fracus & Darwin - Heart On Fire (Remix) Fracus & Darwin vs Michael Mansion - Don't Let Me Go Fracus & Darwin - Love Obsession (SMD Remix) Mike Reverie - I Can't Breathe (Fracus & Darwin Remix) Eclipse - 24/7 (Fracus & Darwin Remix) Fracus & Darwin - Share This Love (Remix) Fracus & Darwin - First Love RedMoon feat Meron Ryan - Never Let Go (Fracus & Darwin Remix) Michael Mansion - Under My Window (Fracus & Darwin Remix) Fracus & Darwin feat Jenna - Believe In Something Fracus & Darwin feat Michael Mansion - My Star Fracus & Darwin feat Becca Hossany - Hypnotic Technikore feat Emi - Just Be (Fracus & Darwin Remix) Dougal & Gammer - Fires In The Sky (Fracus & Darwin Remix) Fracus & Darwin - Love Comes Back (Remix) Fracus & Darwin - Now It's Over Fracus & Darwin feat Michael Mansion - Mine All Night Fracus & Darwin feat Gavin G - Falling Out Of Love 2018 Fracus & Darwin - Never Back Down (Da Na Na) Fracus & Darwin -8Bit Is Everything (16 Bit Megadrive Mix) If you seriously never heard of Fracus & Darwin before, this will be a glorious introduction into their wonderful UK Hardcore world they have created. And it's a wonderful world. I would say that their current music is amazing, but let's not forget the early work. Those tunes still stood the test of time, and will become all time UK Hardcore classics. Let's focus on the tracklist. The tracks selected by Alex are very good. Very melodic, very emotional records. And yes, sometimes on a dancefloor you want to stomp your feet hard and raise your hands high in the air, but sometimes a nice melody and vocals can take you to another level of euphoria, and Fracus & Darwin know exactly how to please the fans. I know from first hand experience. The tracks are all solid, and it included a few songs which I've not heard before. I might have missed them by accident, but it's not too late to enjoy the musical geniuses called Fracus & Darwin. These tracks are only a handful of tracks: their discography is tremendous! Just have a look at all the other stuff they've made over the years. Astonishingly good stuff. I am a huge fan, and love each and every track in this mix. Can't pick out one favourite. Alex's mix is good (got some small mixing errors, but nothing major), and highly enjoyable. Go on, I know you want to listen to this, right? - Pengo - The Compilation (1996)
Remember the label Pengo Records? A well known (and sometimes much hated) Dutch Happy Hardcore label from the mid 90s. During the 90s it was a well established name, and it was one of the many Happy Hardcore labels, run as a subsidiary from the legendary label ID&T. This label was so much loved/hated, it is still an important label for many Happy Hardcore fanatics. You can agree or disagree, but this label has meant a lot to the Happy Hardcore fans, like yours truly. I was a fan, and for good reasons: the tunes released on this label were kind of classics in the making. And 26 years later we are still talking about it. Or at least I am talking about it. This CD was released back in 1996, one of the most important years of the happy sounding Hardcore. And at that time this CD was the one you as a zwabber needed to have. Yes, it was loved by many and hated by the die-hard fanatics, but you cannot undermine the importance of this label. And specifically, this one CD. It isn't the greatest album out there, and it did the trick that everyone did: cash in on the success at the time. You'll see why, when I show you the tracklist. This wasn't an album filled with cheap and quickly made anthems. Oh no, these were classics in the making, by some of the biggest names in the Hardcore scene. You couldn't go to a rave back in the late 90s and NOT hear any of these songs. They were literally everywhere, and they have held their value, 25+ years onward. Happy Hardcore might not have been as big as it was back in 1998-1997, but there's still people out there, craving for this sound to come back. So, instead of waiting for the next Buzz Fuzz, Critical Mass, The Beatsquad, etc, let's just quickly go back in time. When music was good (as the oldies would say). And this is what Pengo Records had to offer, and you will see why this was a quick and easy cash grabber. CD 1 : Critical Mass - Dancing Together (7" Original Mix) DJ Weirdo & DJ Sim - Go Get Busy (Radio Edit) The Prophet - Big Boys Don't Cry (4 Minute Mix) Micado - It's Gonna Be A Fine Night (Radio Edit) The Beatsquad - Miles Of Smiles (Short Version) DJ Waxweazle - Come With Me (Radio Edit) Bertocucci Feranzano - XTC Love (Radio Mix 1) DJ Weirdo & DJ Sim - Pump That Stupid Bass (Credibility Radio Mix) The Prophet & DJ Delirium - The Way You Make Me (CD Version) Cixx - Ride To The Rhythm (Single Edit) Critical Mass - Burnin' Love (Happy Radio Edit) 3 Steps Ahead - Drop It (Happy Mix) CD 2 : Critical Mass - Dancing Together (DJ Waxweazle Remix) DJ Weirdo & DJ Sim - Go Get Busy (Hardcore Edit) The Prophet - Big Boys Don't Cry (Original Mix) Micado - It's Gonna Be A Fine Night (Happy Hard Mix) The Beatsquad - Miles Of Smiles DJ Waxweazle - Come With Me (Critical Mass & DJ Waxweazle Mix) Bertocucci Feranzano - XTC Love (Original Mix) DJ Weirdo & DJ Sim - Pump That Stupid Bass (DJ Friendly Mix) The Prophet & DJ Delirium - The Way You Make Me (Original Vinyl Version) Cixx - Ride To The Rhythm (Happy Hardcore Version) Critical Mass - Burnin' Love (DJ Weirdo & DJ Sim Remix) 3 Steps Ahead - Drop It (The Ender Mix) See what I mean when I said that this tracklist was a tad peculiar? Why bring an album on the market with basically the same songs on two discs, with two different version in total. That's just cheap as chips, right? They had so much more potential, but sadly missed the option to gain more fans. But those were the 90s. Plenty of crap CDs were released throughout the years. I do remember a CD focussed on Formula 1, and the first had Hardcore/Gabber tunes on it, with some race car sounds implemented in-between the tracks, and the second disc was ONLY race car sounds. Sound dumb? Well, it was. How do I know? I spent money buying this album, and similar albums like it. This Pengo album isn't my finest CD in my collection. How to explain it to people on what is on this album? ' Well, there are two discs, and disc 1 contains 12 wicked Happy Hardcore songs, and disc 2 contains the same songs, different version of it. '' Lame. Right? Or not? Well, at least Pengo gave people the chance to find out which version they appreciated more. For example, 'Go Get Busy'. Some like the Radio Edit, which I despise, but I fucking love the 'Hardcore Edit'. Same applies to all the songs on this CD. 'XTC Love' as the original mix is just a lame track. The Radio Mix 1 is good, but the Buzz Fuzz mix is better. You can't win every single time, but at least this gave you the option: don't like version A? Go for version B instead. Whichever version you like of these 12 anthems, they are still Hardcore classics. They still hold their value quite nicely, if I might say so. Some versions are truly masterpieces, and some versions are just utter crap. But that was the 90s: multiple mix version, for 'ieder was wils', as we would say in the Netherlands. It's a fine album, but not the finest Happy Hardcore album out there. But it has to be said that Pengo Records did release only the finest Happy Hardcore songs out there, right? Quality over quantity. Best song? Well, one you wouldn't expect of me: 'Come With Me' by Waxweazle, remixed by Critical Mass & DJ Waxweazle. Banging tune! Sadly it's probably one of those albums completely forgotten about. Time to have a throwback to 1996, the year when Happy Hardcore DOMINATED the world and its mother! - Trance 100 - Best Of The Best - The Collection (1997 - 2000)
The year is 1997. Arcade, a Dutch run label, decides to release a new compilations. This compilation would be called 'Trance 100' initially, but soon would get the added title of 'Best Of The Best', and the compilation would run between 1997 and 2000, to be slowly taken of the market for unknown reasons. It was one of those compilations that emerged out of nowhere, and just left without any announcements. It came and went, and left an impact on yours truly. Not sure if this series was ever released outside of The Netherlands, and I couldn't find any information on Discogs. If you never seen this before, you've missed out on an amazing collection! I started with the second instalment. For whatever reason, I never purchase the first CD in a series. Always the second or third. Maybe it's because I'm a tad afraid, and rather await the feedback from other music lovers. But once the first CD was out and the second one was released, I had to give it a go. And would I be disappointed? Not yet. Later down the line the series turned a bit 'meh' to me personally, but certainly the first few were absolutely smashing CDs. I was a huge Arcade fan. I always thought (wrongly of course) that they stood for quality music. To give them some credit, they have given us memorable CDs. Was it truly quality or more focussed on the quantity? The latter, I suppose. The more, the merrier, the more guilders (as this was the currency before the Millennium). Arcade released many fantastic compilations over the years, like Turn Up The Bass, House Party. Thunderdome, Techno Trance, Mega Dance, Serious Clubhits, Yabba-Dabba-Dance, Gigadance, Factor 9, Heroes Of Hardcore, Club X, Real Hardcore, Clubtrance, 538 Dance Smash Hits, and the list goes on and on. Of course they had some proper stinkers. Don't need to remind the raving community of those fake Happy Hardcore/Gabber albums, focussed on just cashing in on a trend. But to me, Arcade was everything. Most of my collection (roughly 80-85%) was a CD released on their label. And around 1998/1999 I was a tad lost. Hardcore was going down the drain, and I had to get hooked on something else. Trance became my fix. And it was a well needed style. After purchasing a few CDs, I was terribly in love with Trance music, and this top 100 collection would suit me extremely well. The quantity was again the focus, instead of the quality. Some tunes were only played for a handful of seconds, sometimes mixed together in a horrible way, or even some tracks weren't even considered Trance songs. But the good and bad thing would be that those songs were played for long, so the next song would appear quickly. To me these songs were more like teasers: if you wanted to hear the track a tad longer, you would had to buy them on vinyl or single. The CDs did contain some memorable tunes, and some forgettable ones. But it was the late 90s and this was Arcade's business model: cheap, with a lot of songs crammed on each CD. Each CD in this compilation came with 4 discs per each number, so you would get 25 songs on a 70 minute long song. Not enough time for you to enjoy the songs to the fullest extend, but teasers.. So what would be on each CD? Well, it's hard to find these CDs online. Can't find a location where you can listen to them online, like a streaming service. Thankfully I've ripped them from the discs onto a hard drive many years ago, so I can consider myself lucky. But here are 8 out of the 9 tracklists from this glorious compilation: The question I've got for you Trance lovers and if you are Dutch too: did you buy any of these 9 CDs? Were you like me, and bought nearly all of them? Or if you haven't, do you remember seeing them in the Arcade music stand in your local CD store? It was hard for me to find an image of this 'Arcade Bak', but thankfully after scrolling through a few booklets on Discogs, I have found exactly what I'm referring to: And the funny thing is, this picture actually contains one of the Trance 100 CDs on the top row! But all you Dutchies out there, do you remember seeing this whenever you walked into your local CD store back in the 90s? Mostly found in the Free Record Shop. Or Van Leest, which was a local store to me in Heerlen and surrounding areas. But do you remember them? You were always greeted when walking in. You would see the latest releases on Arcade's label. Nostalgia! But let's go back to this Trance 100 compilation. It was greatly summed by someone on Discogs (it was focussed on Arcade in general, but does apply to this series too): they had great compilations, on most of them you would have 3 killer tracks, and 17 fillers. And sadly that's true. This compilation has got so many great songs, but over 100 songs, only a handful would be heard in the clubs near you. Don't get me wrong, there are some seriously underestimated songs on there, which should be played in clubs right NOW, but the majority are just so-so songs. Fillers, not killers. They did their best to cram as much as they could on these CDs, just to keep the fans of Trance music entertained, but were they of high quality? Nope. But from a nostalgic point of view it did introduce us to more than just 15 Trance songs. It was 100 songs in one go! You would be engulfed with music. And that's what I liked about this compilations. Hence why I've always been a fan of megamixes: the more songs, the merrier. It did show Trance music in its widest form; not just Dutch Trance music, but from all over the world. Arcade has done some good to most of us Dutch people. It was a stable force during the 90s, but they were active way before the 90s. And even after the 90s they tried to stay afloat, but their business approach wasn't suitable anymore, and for whatever reason they were taken over and quickly turned into an underground label, to be then forgotten about. Which is a shame. Whenever I think of my music collection of the 90s, I always think of Arcade. And whenever I think of Trance music in the 90s, I always go back to this collection. Was it great? No. Far from it. But was it worth every penny spent on it? Yes. The series only spanned 3 years, but I'm still talking about these CDs, 25 years later. Funny side note: I never got them all. It took me a couple of years to have 7 out of the 9. Found the 8th one back in 2016 in my local CD store for 10 euros. Still haven't got the 7th edition of this instalment, but hell will freeze over before I can add that one to my collection, And the one song from all these CDs that I remembered the most has to be Celvin Rotane's 'Bienvenue'. The best Trance anthem of ALL TIME! Wish they would be put online somewhere on a streaming service. I do miss this kind of compilations. As good as bad as they were, they were still what made me love music even more. And for that I give it the following score: Side note: if anyone owns the rights to Arcade, can you pretty please upload those forgotten albums? For 'old time sake'? Fuck me, I miss the 90s. Side note 2: I'm not going to type all the details down, product numbers, length CDs etc. Way too long, and no point to do that; you won't be able to find these CDs anywhere ... Maybe in your local CD store. They might have some in a corner, for a few quid. Grab them.
- Bella Hardstyle Italia | TNT, Zatox & Tatanka | DEDIQATED (2020)
A couple of days ago I reviewed a set from Dediqated, which contained the early Hardstyle legends A*S*Y*S, Dana, Pila, Pavo, and Luna. But because of the fact that I've checked one set on Youtube, the algorithm gave me more sets from Dediqated 2020. The next set I saw was the Bella Italia set, which contained a few of the legends, that took the Italian sound, and radiated toward the rest of the world: Zatox, Technoboy, Tuneboy, and Tatanka. And I normally wouldn't write more than one review from one event, but after hearing the set that they did back in 2020 (pre-lockdown number 1037084 for my fellow Dutchman/woman), I just had to share it with you all. The Qlubtempo Parade set was amazing, and took me right back to the early years, but don't underestimate the Italians during the rise of Hardstyle. With their own unique approach to the newish formed music style, they gave it a much needed more melodic input, and the outcome were some amazing and legendary records. Obviously these DJs do not need an introduction, and neither does this event. The first set I watched was already amazing, but now during this set you can see the crowd give even more power. More fists in the air, more feet stomping, and less mobiles in the air. And that's a good thing. You needed to soak in every second imaginable, especially when it's Q-Dance's 20th anniversary. A lot has happened in those 20 years, and to reminisce what happened throughout those years, you couldn't leave the Italians out of this. Their contribution remains significant, and gained a cult status. Especially the track which they started their set with. Is that the best Hardstyle track ever made? You make that call, you make that decision. Just have a look at the tracklist and prove me wrong... Technoboy - Ti Sento Activator - Back In The Days Tatanka - Afrika (Italia Edit) Technoboy feat Shayla - Oh My God Tuneboy - Sexbusters (Technoboy Remix) DJ Vortex & Arpa's Dream - Incoming ZX aka Zenith DJ & Avex - Scream The KGB's - Infinity (Technoboy Ruff Mix) Tatanka - Let's Rock (Wildstylez Remix) Zatox & Activator - Oxygen Zatox & Tatanka - Gangsta (Remix) DJ Phil Ty - Miami Beach Builder - Her Voice (Headhunterz Remix) Wild Motherfuckers - Wild Wild West w/ Wild Motherfuckers - Fother Mucker (Vocal) Zatox - Andromeda Technoboy - Rage (Frontliner Remix) Technoboy - Rage DJ Phil Ty - A Kay A (EHM Mix) Wild Motherfuckers - Fuck It Up (Vocal) TNT aka Technoboy 'N' Tuneboy & DJ Isaac - The Realm Zatox - Creation TNT aka Technoboy 'N' Tuneboy - Countdown TNT aka Technoboy 'N' Tuneboy - Teknogym 2K19 Technoboy & Activator - Steam Train Zatox - Red Alert Tuneboy - XY Zatox - Rumble In The Jungle FUCK. I wish I went to this event. I'm now seeing more and more sets from Dediqated, and each and every one of them just gives me goosebumps. But this one especially gives me goosebumps from the first second to the last. The tone is set from the first record, and this Italian invasion remains still highly liked and much appreciated. Just look at the crowd in this video during 'Ti Sento' and 'Rage'.They go fully insane. And so was I, here in my living room, in 2022, Nearly 2 years after the event took place. Shit, that means I've got to wait until 2025 for the next big Q-Dance event? Well, it all depends on fucking COVID and how much it will impact the world again. Fuck COVID, Omicron, Delta variant, or whatever is going to emerge out of nowhere. Wish I could go back in time, to the years when the Italians dominated the Hardstyle scene. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of other Italian Hardstyle artists, but they had to make a decision, and decided that these four would represent Italy. Some on Youtube were complaining also about the lack of certain songs by other Italian producers, but come on, at least they played these 27 records. Their set was only 'short' compared to normal sets ... They could have selected more songs from Italy's finest producers, but that list could be thousands of songs long. At least they played 'Ti Sento' right? The biggest and most memorable tune ever made. When it kicks in, and the crowd sings along, it gives me goosebumps!!! Fuck it, I'm going to say it... the best Hardstyle tune ever made? It's an amazing set, and the recording is just perfect. 27.000 people raving pre-lockdown. It must have been very special. All the songs selected good, the MC is ok-ish (not a fan of MCs in general though, but let's be positive for once). The crowd loved it, and so do I. Dediqated 2025? I'm coming for you. - Clarkey - Westfest 2021 - Liveset
DJ Clarkey! Now that's a name you haven't seen on our website for a long time! A name you could have seen on the old website more than once, but his mixes have sadly been missed by yours truly. I think the last mix I reviewed was roughly 4 years ago, or even longer ago. I don't know why it has been so long, but thankfully I did find a recently published mix on Soundcloud, and it's a big one. How big you might say? Well, it's Clarkey's set from Westfest 2021! How's that for a set? Obviously Westfest doesn't need an introduction. Such a big and well known event by all the ravers out there. Everyone knows about Westfest. Not just the UK Hardcore fans, but also fans of Drum & Bass and Jungle. The line-up was ridiculous: here are a few names you might know. And I say it lightly, you might be a tad unexperienced in the music scene... but hopefully you will recognise at least one of these DJs: Chase & Status, Darren Styles, Fresh, SASASAS, Andy Whitby & Klubfiller, Basslayerz, Hazard, Hype B2B Broke, Joey Riot, Hixxy, Sharkey, and many, many more. Oh, and of course Clarkey was there! I'm guessing he played in the Hardcore Heaven area, right? Can't see his name on the line-up. But it doesn't really matter, right? He was there, and his 73 minute long set can now be found on Soundcloud. Proof that he entertained the masses there. And you can tell he's excited to be there (who wouldn't be?): the mic is often his, and he makes sure the whistle crew is woken up! He's happy, and so are the people there. I'm guessing he was one of the first DJs of the night, but the crowd are getting ready. Clarkey is doing his best, and succeeds in getting the crowd mad! Back in the good ol' days I would always think of UK Hardcore when I thought of him, but he's ventured into the harder styles now to, especially Hardstyle. And it suits him well. But besides the crowd loving it, are you going to love what he's got in store for you? Frontliner x Adaro - Deep In The Night Da Tweekaz x Refuzion - Because Of You Dr Phunk - Firebomb Bon Jovi - It's My Life (Lost Identity Bootleg) 4B x Tees - Whistle (JEFF?! If that was the only set of the night, I would have left content. Such a nice and diverse set, with some serious hitters. Clarkey grabs the crowd, and doesn't let them go throughout this set. As mentioned before, he does play a bit of everything, but it seems to have worked: you can hear the crowd really liking the tunes he's playing. But they aren't the only ones: I'm sitting here in my room, really enjoying myself. A bit of the new, and a bit of the old. And everything in between. A fantastic set. And now I've got to pick one record and call it my favourite?! Fuck, can't do that. Too many great anthems selected by Clarkey. OK, what if I choose two? One Hardstyle anthem and one UK Hardcore anthem? How's that for compromise? 'Tear The Walls Down' is a wicked anthem. That's my favourite Hardstyle anthem. And without a shadow of a doubt I had to go for 'All My Life. Fucking hell, still gives me goosebumps. The vocals are just insane! Clarkey, where have you been? But it's nice to hear you behind the decks, and playing wicked anthems. Not fan of 'Forever Young' (ruined a perfectly cheesy classic) and the Bon Jon Bovi's song. Never liked it anyway. - The Qlubtempo Parade | A*S*Y*S, DJ Luna, Dana, Pavo, Pila | DEDIQATED (2020)
Qlubtempo. A concept I've sadly never visited. When it was around between 2001 and 2007, it created a lot of hype, and a lot of my friends did go to Qlubtempo at the Hemkade or the Heineken Music Hall. It's a concept much loved, And according to Partyflock, a lot of big names have appeared on the line-up over the years. Don't actually know why Q-Dance terminated this concept, this idea, as there was a huge hype on social media pre Dediqated. Another event I sadly didn't go to, due to bloody COVID, or was it because I'm living in a different country and are a tad lazy? Who knows, who knows? If you've been to Dediqated, you might be able to assist me here: was it all in one area, one stage, or was it spread all over multiple areas? It seems to me that the line-up indicates one stage, 60+ artists? All having roughly 30 minute slots? If you do know the answer, leave a comment below. But let's talk about the line-up. The line-up was gorgeous! So many, and I do mean, big names! The DJs were split in sections: the Qlubtempo Parade, Millennium Hardcore Mayhem, Praise The Reverse Bass, Future Heroes, Early Rave Rebels, Bella Hardstyle Italia, The Land Down Under, Viva Hollandia, Masters Of Melody, The Birth Of Raw, and Hardcore 2.0. I could just type the whole line-up, but that would mean the whole page will be filled with names. Let's not do that. But trust me, the names are big! Very big! The Qlubtempo section had some big hitters too: A*S*Y*S, Dana, Pavo, Pila and Luna. The set I've found is them all behind the decks. For 30 minutes they do take you back in the day, to the years when Qlubtempo was alive and kicking. So what are we talking about? Well, the early years, the Millennium years. And what kind of tracks? Epic, fucking, dope Hardstyle anthems. It's one big ass mashup session. So many tracks in such a short space of time. You'll love it, as much as I did! A*S*Y*S - Acid Nightmare Julian DJ & Davide Sonar - Techno Noise Derb - Derb (Derbus) Hardstyle Masterz - Age Of Reverse Bass K-Traxx - Noise Tool (Technoboy Remix) Marc Et Claude - Loving You (DJ Isaac Remix) Geal - Losing My Feelin' (The Beholder & Ballistic Remix) The Beholder feat MAX & Mike - Beating Of The Drumz w/ Dana & The Prophet - Pump Dizz Brain Ovulation - Kicks & Bass Luna - Bring That Shit Back The Moon - Blow The Speakers Brennan Heart - Evolution Continues Cherry Moon Trax - Acid Dream (The Prophet Remix) Armani & Ghost - Airport w/ Unknown Analoq - Blackout w/ Hunter - The Beauty & The Beast Kai Tracid - Trance & Acid Shithead - Shithead Jimmy The Sound - M.O.D.U.L.O Julian DJ & Davide Sonar - Go Go Go (Hardstyle Winter Remix) Zany - Sky High (Technoboy Remix) Builder - Skyscraper (Luca Antolini Hard Mix) w/ DJ Isaac - Go Insane Zombie Nation - Kernkraft 400 (DJ Gius Remix) w/ ZX a.k.a. Zenith DJ & Avex - I'm Your Deejay Busted - Tricky Tricky (DJ Sequenza Remix) Ard und Jorn - 16 Twister's Silence - Listen To Me Mama (Scot Project Remix) Donkey Rollers - Motherfuck w/ Pavo & Zany - Porn Pavo & Zany - S.E.X. The Hose - Call It Hardstyle! DJ Isaac - On The Edge (Psyko Punkz Remix) Blademasterz - One Blade Unknown Analoq - Blackout (Brennan Heart Remix) Killer Clown - Silentium w/ DJ Isaac - Nobody Likes The Records That You Play Spacefrog x Derb x Audiofreq - Follow Me (Max Enforcer Mashup) Now these are classic anthems, wouldn't you agree? But would you expect anything less from these legendary DJs? They've been with us for so many years, they have gained the knowledge and experience over the years, and know exactly what the crowd wants to hear. And at Dediqated you can see the crowd loosing themselves. Combined they must have reached at least 100 years of experience and knowledge, right? All these DJs have been in my life for as long as I can remember. So to have them all on one stage, throwing the finest Hardstyle anthems we all know, is just sublime. But let's turn our attention to the party for a second: the visuals are insane! Not only is the music great, but the stage looks extremely awesome! Q-Dance outdid themselves. It looked rammed but not completely full, but that's probably because it was still early. Early, but that wasn't an issue. The DJs got everyone dancing from the first to the last second. And the tunes they played for the crowd, well, they are awesome. I wasn't even there (at Dediqated), but they got me dancing in my living room! Epic songs that took me back to the early years of Hardstyle. Probably the best years ever, right? It was difficult to point out one favourite record from this set, but one that appealed the most to me has to be the one made by the Donkey Rollers 'Motherfuck'. When it does hit you, it will cause tremors all over your body. You won't be able to stop moving like a monkey on acid! Damn good track! A fantastic set. Not a fan of the MC. Not just him though, but MCs in general. Some people commented on the Youtube video stating they missed Ruffian, but for me personally he didn't bring anything to the table. But maybe it's because I wasn't there, or never been to a set where he MC-ed? I am just not a fan of MCs. Sorry. One to start your day with, if you haven't heard this set already! Come on, let's dance our way through this boring Tuesday! - D-Fence @ Lockdown Podcast 001 (2021)
It is Monday, another week in 2022. And let's start the week with something hard. Ever heard of D-Fence? This mysterious DJ and producer emerged onto the scene back in 2015, and has a wicked few years. He had a lot of successful songs over the years, like 'Dikke BMW', 'Krakaka', 'Rammen', 'BIEM!' ... basically anything trending on Dumpert would turn into a D-Fence record. But he's been a very busy boy (whoever it might be behind the mask), and he was asked for the Army Of Hardcore - Lockdown Podcast series to start the series. A good artist to start a series with, yes? He's not been the only one, let me just name a few other names: Akira, Potato, Bloodlust, RVAGE, Catscan, Killshot, Spitfire, F.Noize, and many, many more. I am not familiar with the AoH events, but that's mainly because they take place in the USA. This mix literally appeared on Soundcloud because I follow D-Fence (who doesn't?). I had to listen to it, and now I'm sitting here, with a sore neck because of me moving my head to vividly to the music. Thanks D-Fence. Nah, all jokes aside. During the first few years it was kind of funny, his music, but over the years he's progressed, and became a well known name and a well respected producer. In this 30 minute long mix he has played a few of his own records (obviously), but in a weird (but positive) way his music just sounds so much more mature. You will know what I mean if you compare the stuff from the mid 10s to the stuff now. But what can you expect in this 30-ish long mix? Well, these bangers that make you go BIEM! D-Fence - Brainshock D-Fence - MTFCKING LOUD Angerfist & Mike Redman - Reprogrammer N-Vitral feat Sovereign King & Last Word - I'm Nuclear D-Fence - Covid-19 Sefa - The Omega New Kids feat Paul Elstak - Turbo (D-Fence Decade Mix) Deadly Guns & Dither - Sick In The Head Mike NRG - Lost In Dreams (D-Fence Remix) (Q-Base Anthem) D-Fence & Mr. Hyde - Snoeien You might be at the end of your latin at the moment, and need a boost. Why not let D-Fence lift your mood up, by playing the finest Hardcore anthems out there? Most of them made by himself, but hey, self promotion is required, eh? This is such a mature and solid mix. A good tracklist. A bit diverse, not just D-Fence in the mix. But the majority of the records are. And the records, well, are fucking GOOD. Especially the Covid-19 record. I got early Angerfist vibes when I heard this mix. And to me it is still the finest Hardcore track out there at the moment. It just suits the world we live in so well. Wasn't the vocals taken from this idiotic priest/vicar from the States? Who was going to 'blow' Covid-19 away? The tracks are solid. Even though I'm not a fan of Sefa, I do appreciate the song in this mix. And even the 'Turbo' song, that song has been in my head since it was released. To hear another version of it has lightened my day. All jokes aside, D-Fence's mix is tight. Short and sweet. You get your dosage of Hardcore in 30 minutes. And probably the dopest track that will remind us in the future what a fucked up time it was we experienced during 2020 up until ... (who knows)... COVID-19. More of this Angerfist sounding music please, D-Fence. I fucking love it! Wicked but short. That's this mix in a nutshell. - Shockers - In Control (2003)
The year is 2003. Nearly 20 years ago. And there was an event called Shockers. Remember Shockers? Were you there? Did you go to it? If you have, I am so jealous. As you can imagine, I didn't go, But I wish I did. I did buy most of the Shockers CDs, and to my knowledge, they hold the Guinness World Record (unofficially of course) for being the CDs that became scratched beyond belief the quickest. For kids that grew up without CDs, this means that I kept playing them over and over, and during the process they got damaged sadly. See, MP3s are just superior over CDs. The Shockers CD collection remains to this day one that I still find fascinating, and listen to whenever I can. The other day I found the last in the series on Youtube. Shockers - In Control. And what I didn't know, was that ID&T decided to end Shockers as an event and change the name and the concept to In Qontrol. Hence why the last CD was called that way. Since 1999 up until 2003 the CDs were released every year, and were a success. It was probably a marketing decision to change from Shockers to In Qontrol. A good one I suspect, as Hardstyle would become huge around 2003-2004. But I do miss the older events, like for example Innercity. But hey ho, that's life. And even though I never went to Shockers, I did love the CDs. It was a mixture of everything on them. And the last CD in the series was already hinting toward a change, but thankfully it was still mainly focussed on Techno (on CD 1), while the second disc was more into Hardstyle. Around the Millennium era I was lost. Hardcore for me lost it a tad, and I started to discover and venture into new and exciting styes, like Techno, Hardstyle, Trance, etc, and Shockers fit my craving for something different perfectly. And both CDs contained music from around 2003, so damn quirky and different. And for TCD that was just the best. But what if you haven't bought these CDs, and do not know what was on them? Well, here's the tracklist for both discs: CD 1 Queen vs Vangaurd - Flash Benny Bee - Satisfaction Nam Trak & Dr. Motte - Bush Fire Len Faki - Figurę Series 1.1 Cave - Car Ne Vale E.P. Da Goose - Cobra's Bite (K-Cee Remix) Glenn Wilson - Enemies (Alexander Kowalski Remix) DJ Misjah & Sir Jamez - The Amateur Nam Trak - What You Need (Emerson Remix) Frederik Almquist - Being & Becoming (Marco Carola Remix) Live Tracks - The Ghost Of Lele Toni Rios - Palomitas (Kiss EP) Sven Väth - Ghost (John Starlight Remix) Kay D. Smith & Alex K. Katz - Deep Silence K-Cee - Rise Of The Machines CD 2 Zappaman - Hardstyle Lover Ya Ya - Future Loop (Loop Mix) DJ Mike - Resistance (Blutonium Boy vs A-Lusion Hardstyle Mix) Zenith & Dana - Victims Of Hardstyle (Champagne Mix) DJ Zany - In My Mind Showtek - Seid Ihr Bereid The Prophet - Follow The Leader (Luna meets Trilok & Chiren Remix) DJ Jorn - This Is Your Brain Mindcontroller - Mindcontroller 2003 (Controller Mix) Methods Mayhem - Fuck You Up (Showtek Remix) Deepack - Zero Crossing Jam - Right On ASYS - From Past To Phuture Luna - In Control (Shockers Exclusive) Temper Temper - I Will Be Master Mental Miracle - After The Storm (Schwarzende Remix) You might be looking at this tracklist and salivate. Sorry about that. But you are not the only one: my keyboard is currently covered in saliva. This takes me back, way back in time. I can still picture myself in my bedroom, with my headset on, playing this out loud. Who fucking listens to this with the volume on low, right? Fuck those eardrums, they need to be mutilated! Probably not the best idea, as I'm now Oost-Indisch doof (East Indies deaf = only deaf when a person wants to be). I do remember this disc very well. It came in this rather unusual shaped CD case. Didn't fit in well with my OCD collection. But it's all about the music, and the music was good. Different, but good. you would look at CD one and think 'wtf is Queen and Benny Benassi (a.k.a. Benny Bee) doing here?' Well, to be fair, the Queen vs Vanguard song is actually dope as fuck, and Benny Benassi was just a phase. Still dope and very catchy. But there was so much more to this collection: So two discs, and a lot of flashbacks to 2003. But which appealed the most to me on each disc? Well, fuck it, Queen vs Vanguard's 'Flash' has to be it on disc one, and on disc two 'I Will Be Master' by Temper Temper. Don't hear that tune very often to be fair. The two discs couldn't be any more different from each other: where as the first disc focusses on the Techno and House side of things, the second is more rougher and tougher, and focussed on Hardstyle. The first CD wins, by a huge margin, for me. Bigger, better, and damn good anthems. A trip down memory lane. Maybe an idea for ID&T to revive this concept. They have done it with a few of their concepts, like Thunderdome, Trance Energy, and maybe in 2022 Shockers 2.0? If that would happen, I would be the first to buy a ticket! - DuMonde - Live @ Trance Energy, Thialf, Heereveen 21.09.2002
Happy New Year everyone! Hope that you had a wicked NYE, and also a wicked Christmas. I do hope all your dreams might come true in 2022, and that we can say 'fuck off' to COVID-19, and get back to partying again safely. But we are BACK, TCD Reviewing continues in 2022. Like we were ever going to stop? We can never stop, we always find more music we want to share with you all, and today's mix is one recorded back in 2002, a set by the mighty Dumonde, recorded at Trance Energy. This event, organised by Radio 538, MTV and ID&T, has had some mixed reviews (which you can find on certain websites), but with a line-up like you can see in the image above, how's that even possible? DuMonde are to me legends in the Trance/Hard Trance scene. After New Year I just felt the urge to listen to something made by DuMonde. Or, if you are unaware, JamX & De Leon. A lot of the sets on Soundcloud are already listened by yours truly, but today I found a set from Trance Energy, and it contains all the records I needed to hear. The forgotten era of excellent Hard Trance music. A good choice to have them play at Trance Energy. The home of Trance music back in the early 2000s. The line-up looked great: Astrid, Bas & Ram, Blank & Jones, DuMonde, Johan Gielen, Joop!, and Talla 2XLC. As mentioned before, this event got some mixed reviews (and some passionate comments). People weren't that much excited about the crowd or the volume. But thankfully you cannot hear that back on this recording of DuMonde's set. It's not the highest quality due to the fact that it's been broadcasted live on the radio. But that's what happened back in the days. Who remembered sitting in front of the radio, and recording sets on cassettes, and timing toilet breaks with the adverts, and making sure you would turn the cassette over when it reached the end? Good days. This event was actually the root cause why it changed from two events per year to one, due to the event not being sold out. But surely it had nothing to do with DuMonde's set, right? If you just have a minute, check out this tracklist, and you know for sure that this was a superb set, right? ID&T Intro DuMonde Intro Cygnus X - Orange Theme (Moonman Orange Juice Mix) Signum feat Katana - Third Dimension JamX & De Leon - Dig It! (UK Mix) Jam X & De Leon meets Tom Wax - Louder Softer (Hennes & Cold Remix) Dark Monks - Insane (Steve Muruano Mix) The Freak - Addictive (Hard Mix) Svenson & Gielen - Answer The Question (Cosmic Gate Remix) BK - Revolution Balthazar - Insanity (Remix) Warrior - If You Want me (a.k.a. Drama) JamX & De Leon - Mind Made Up Hi-Gate - Saxuality (DuMonde Mix) DuMonde - God Music This is just gorgeous, isn't it? A flashback to 2002. The era of excellent Trance music. This kind of music makes me feel young again, dancing away until the break of dawn. Maybe with a few too many beverages down my neck, but hey ho, you are only a teenager for 10 years. (not saying I was drinking for 10 years though!) This set has made me happy and sad at the same time. This distinctive sound isn't here anymore. It's gone. But the memories will stay afloat forever: Soundcloud and Mixcloud are the places to go to, if you are on a trip back in time. What also made me slightly angry and frustrated was the fact that there's someone jabbering on and on throughout the set. Like, seriously, wtf? Shut the fuck up! You've got DuMonde behind the decks, and you are just talking bollocks? Blurgh. As said before, it was live broadcasted via Radio 538, one of the organisers of this event. And you do get the occasional radio advert, but that's not something big, or ruins the moment. It's part of the atmosphere, if you didn't purchase a ticket and had to listen from your old stereo set. The songs are really ace, and normally I would have picked my favourite to be a DuMonde song, without hesitating, but in this set their first song is a classic. Especially this version of it. The 'Orange Theme' by Cygnus X, with the Moonman Orange Juice Mix. Just heavenly. This is Trance to me. Best song of this set. A wonderful set, with a good atmosphere surrounding it. Extremely ruined by the person with the microphone. I know we went through a phase back in the day, but can we never get this back into practice? Keep MCs far away from dance events? Maybe Drum and Bass, Jungle, R&B, maybe even UK Hardcore, but not Trance music. Seriously, dumbest idea ever. Besides the MC ruining the set, it was phenomenal! Worth checking out! - DJ Cotts - What UK/Happy Hardcore Used to Be 15 (Vinyl Mix) (2021)
It's Thursday today. And have I got a mix for you all, UK Hardcore fanatics! A mix so fresh, it's still warm and moist! But it all depends on a lot of things: the main thing being, do you actually love UK Hardcore or not? And do you even know what it is? If you do, DJ Cotts has got your back, with the fifteenth instalment of this mix series. A live mix series, which you can find on Youtube. And all mixed together beautifully, and all records are on vinyl. You know what vinyl is, right? You've seen those big black discs? If you do, let's talk about the mix and what records DJ Cotts has picked for his set. According to his Youtube page, he's picked record from 2004 to 2006. And that's exactly the style I 'grew up' with. This was around the time I discovered UK Hardcore. So each and every track in this mix is right up my alley! As much as I appreciate the present day Hardcore sound, I do prefer the Millennium UK Hardcore sound. Just have a look at the tracklist in a minute, and you'll know exactly what I mean. So many great anthems from the biggest superstars in the scene! And the selection is just pure pornography. DJ Cotts' selection is really what I needed to hear today. I might have missed the other 14 editions, but it's never too late to jump the band wagon, right? So while we are now focussing on his latest mix, I'll jump on the other 14, and have the rest of the day off. But if you haven't seen or heard this mix before, here's the tracklist: this might persuade you to give this a go? Fergus Mayhem - Take Control (Sy & Unknown Remix) DJ Kurt - Kick Ya Breeze & Styles - The Beat Kicks Plus System - Let's All Get Down Brisk & Ham - Gettin' High Insight - Only Your Love (Scott Brown Remix) United In Dance feat Lisa Marie - Still The One Euphoria - Silver Dawn DJ Ham - In Da Club Scott Brown - Lost Generation (Nu Foundation Remix) Robbie Long & AMS - Rock Da Spot Joey Riot feat Ali - Into Tomorrow Eclipse - Things You Do (Gammer Remix) Geos - Everyday Kaos & Ethos - Lost DJ Kurt - Secret Raver Darren Styles - Skydivin' Styles & Breeze - You're My Angel CLSM feat Stefan B - Drifting Away (VIP Remix) Will you look at this tracklist? It's gorgeous, right? If this doesn't get you excited, what does? I am really excited to see these records. Every so often you see mixes with these records in it, but sadly it happens sporadically. We need to have more of these mixes, we certainly do! It is nice to see Cotts having a lot of fun behind the decks. This is actually the first time I watched a video of him behind the decks, but he looks extremely happy. And why wouldn't he be? Also, he's got some snazzy looking socks on. All jokes aside, he's doing a marvellous job, mixing these songs, all on vinyl. I've got only positive feedback on this mix. The songs are all classics, and the mix is very good. So the only thing for me to do is to say 'press play' and have a blast. Go back in time with Cotts' latest mix, and if you like this, check out the other mixes too. He's got plenty on his Youtube page, so that's got you covered for a few days! Best record? Come on, that's an easy one: 'In Da Club' by DJ Ham. Banger! - GPF presents GPF WINTER MIX 2021
It has been a very long time since I last reviewed anything from the Greazy boys. Too damn long, if you ask me. But the boys have been busy in the background, getting them recognised even more in the world of madness. And for this set they went somewhere special: Italy. The set was looking rather sexy. A nice lake behind them, and the two boys cuddling. What else do you require? To be fair, don't know if anyone in Italy actually know the GPF boys? Have they got a huge following in Italy too? GPF gone global. And it's all become very professional. Cameras, drones, big tunes, and a fantastic back drop. No industrial location somewhere in The Netherlands, but somewhere extremely nice. And graphics most of us are jealous of. Bananas on your screen? Sure, GPF can do that. Justin Bieber's face all over your monitor? Yes, done. And also the look of the boys have improved: socks and sandals. Or pink shoes. They have made it in the world. Splashing the cash! Normally I would be focussed on the boys, but this time the scenery is absolutely astonishing. Really good decision to play in Italy. Didn't know it was snowing over there? All jokes aside, the boys have given us a Winter Mix for 2021. Basically a copy of Lil Texas' idea. He's been doing it for a while, and now GPF are doing it too. Whatever floats their boat. But the main question no one has, is: is this pre recorded? Are they actually mixing? Or are they just standing there beautifully behind the decks, rimming each other hard, and touching each other's manboobs? You tell me. It's very suspicious that no cameras are pointed at the decks ... (*insert conspiracy theory here*). Someone on Youtube was so kind to come up with the tracklist, and for that I owe them my forever gratitude. But you want to see the tracklist too? FUCK, here it is: Justin Bieber - Baby (GPF Remix) GPF - ID GPF - Harmony Of Fuck GPF x Kutski - Stare Into My Eyes Jebroer - Gaan Met Die Banaan (GPF & Mizz Behave's Laser Piep Edit of Riot Shifts Vegang Edit) GPF x Russian Village Boys - Hello Baby GPF feat J1ZZY - Cummin On Your Face Gary Ponte - Geordie (GPF Forza Italia Fuark Mix 420 69 Remix) GPF x S3RL - Cum Say Henlo GPF - Alles Naar De Tiring GPF x ELXR - ID Da Tweekaz - Ich Schenk' Die Einen Jodler (GPF Remix) GPF - Crywank Cascada - Every time We Touch (GPFs 'Every time We Fuck' Remix) GPF - Sloop Lirpa You know the madness starts when Justin Bieber enters the building. And then the BPMs come flying at you at light speed! You know the boys are there to demolish the speakers and the one remaining brain cell you've got left. Obviously the set is filed with their own records, but there are a few unknowns in here, so if you are a die-hard GPF fanatic, you might be able to fill them in? GPF have cracked the code, the secret formula to become successful. They are the Elon Musk of the Hardstyle/Hardcore scene. Or do I give them too much credit? They have taken something which NO ONE asked for (piep kicks) and turned it into something that works well. No one asked for it, but when GPF took it and made it their own, they did it so well, we weren't ready for it. And neither were they. Now they have become superstars. All jokes aside, as said before in other reviews, you might like it or you don't. I do, so stuff it. As long as you are having fun. They are having fun, and so do we. If you don't, you can go somewhere else. Side note that I've got: they do know how to make a track work. They don't even need the piep kicks. Just listen to track 10 and track 13. Which track does the most to me? Well, it's a track I've never heard before, but has the potential to become the best record ever! 'Geordie' by Gary Ponte. Wicked track. Something different for you all today. GPF are back with a vengeance! - The Best Of TRANCE ENERGY ★ SENSATION WHITE ★ ID&T Part I & II (2021)
Hope everyone had a nice Christmas, and are now enjoying themselves with all the presents given to them. I've had a few days offline, and it was good. But now we need to get back to reviewing everything I can find, and today's mix is presented to you by DJ Goro. If my detective work is correct, this is a Polish DJ. If I am incorrect, please do let me know, but I'm only guessing here (I'm not a proper detective, might I add). But how did I stumble upon this DJ? Well, for once it's Youtube and his video had two names in it, which grabbed my attention. Trance Energy and Sensation. Obviously two concepts run by ID&T, Very successful back in the early 2000s, and I am an avid fan of both concepts. Actually been to Sensation back in 2001 (or was it 2002?), and danced the night away like never before. I am a fan of the Millennium Trance sound, and DJ Goro decided to fabricate a mix, split into two, with tracks that might make you think of Sensation and Trance Energy immediately. I could just have turned each video into a review, but I've just combined them both. A nice treat for us all. Christmas is over, time to start raving again. And the good thing about these videos is that DJ Goro decided to play the long extended version of each song! You don't see that very often. Also the tracks selected are just so damn good, and sometimes forgotten about. It is nice to hear something else coming through my speakers at the moment. Christmas is finally over (even though we are still within the 12 days of Christmas) ... time to hear 'normal' music again, right? So which records did Goro use for both sets? Well, these ones: VIDEO 1: Sensation - The Anthem 2003 (Original) Armin van Buuren feat Jan Vayne - Serenity (Original Mix) Human Evolution - Project Magneta (One Giant Leap For Mankind Mix) Cygnus X - Positron 2002 (Marco V Remix) Don Diablo - Acceleration (Svenson & Gielen Remix) Airscape - Sosei (F&W Remix) Svenson - Sunlight Theory (0-Zone Remix) Svenson & Gielen - Beachbreeze (Green Court Remix) Rank 1 - Such Is Life (Original Mix) Three Drives - Greece 2000 (G&M Project Mix) VIDEO 2: Marcel Woods - Advanced (Original Mix) Ernesto vs Bastian - Thrill (Original Mix) Mac J - Perfect Blend Robert Gitelman - Things 2 Say (Original) Joop - Act Of God (Original) Sensation - The Anthem 2002 (Original) Sensation - The Anthem 2004 (The Rush Original Edit) Svenson & Gielen - Answer The Question (Cosmic Gate Remix) Benicio - Don't Explain (Original Mix) Jacob & Mendez - Deception (Benicio Remix) Igor S - Boomerang (Igor S Mix) Cygnus X - The Orange Theme (Original Mix) Wow. This tracklist takes me back in time. These are the classics I wanted to hear! And if you are like me, every so often you go through your music collection, and blow off the dust from those CDs, and give them a go again, and instantaneously they make you happy. This is what Goro's mix did to me, and also to him: you can see him having a great time behind the decks. He's having a great time, and it's all on vinyl. His selection is great. Really amazing tunes. The best Trance era in my honest opinion. This is the kind of music I grew up with, and danced to the whole night. Goro's selection is great, and indeed resembles the Trance Energy and Sensation white era. Oh, this was such a great time. I wish I knew what it said underneath the video on Youtube. I know it says something about TE and Sensation, but what else? Anyone able to comment? DJ Goro's two sets are great, really enjoyed it. The only wish I have was that the Joop record was the Hard Trance edit, that one has to be the most underrated Trance anthem of all time! Here are the two videos, enjoy them as much as I have! - Painbringer - Rave Instinct Mix (Early Hardcore / Gabber) (2021)
Today I've been a busy boy. A few reviews already, after a short hiatus. And just as I was about to shut down my iMac to enjoy this Christmas Eve, I stumbled upon this mix by Painbringer. You might have seen his name before, here and there. Obviously you have, you silly sausage: who doesn't know Painbringer? With his 'Words Of '95' song he took over the early Hardcore scene by storm, and has been providing us with excellent early Hardcore anthems, made in the present day. He's one of those producers/DJs that keeps the early sound alive and kicking, and for that I do praise him (and others that do so). But to keep it alive and kicking isn't hard. Many can just download records from digital stores, and make an early Hardcore mix. Which is always good, don't get me wrong. But what producers like Painbringer are doing, is making new music that resembles the early Hardcore sound from the 90s. And that's impressive. Some do try and sadly make it not worthwhile. But producers like Maynor, CasketKrusher, and Painbringer do their best, and have found a platform to do it on. And people seem to love it a lot, for good reasons. I am not sure what Rave Instinct is, but it looks to me to be a label on Bandcamp that releases early Hardcore songs by artists such as Painbringer, MD&A, Reeza, Lenz, Lockjaw, and more. Never heard of this label before, but I will surely follow it from now on. They have got some interesting releases planned for 2022, which you can find in Painbringer's latest mix. Worth while checking this mix out, and press play. But before you do so, you want to know what's in store, right? So here's the tracklist! Painbringer - Sidious Painbringer - Final Annihilation (X-Fly Remix) Arvid - Keep On MD&A - Candyman Painbringer - Back 2 Life (Morax Remix) X-Fly - I'm Juggernaut, Bitch! Arvid - System Reboot Painbringer - Hyped Up (Lenz Remix) Ferra - Mind Sensations MD&A - Evil On You Ferra & Greensequence - Hypnotize Painbringer - Words Of '95 (Gabber Remix) Arvid - Delivered From Evil Ferra & Greensequencer - Never Too Much This mix is only 30 minutes long, but this is a teasing mix, to show what will be released in 2022. Which is just around the corner, if truth be told. Before you know it, you can spend your pennies on Rave Instinct's website (which is Bandcamp). If you are liking this short mix, you will be happy to know 2022 is only around the corner, and it won't be long before you can purchase these records. This mix has got everything you need, crammed into half an hour long mix, and that is also downloadable. Again, this is just a taster, so you won't get the full length songs, but at least it's a nice surprise to hear on Christmas Eve. This mix was uploaded yesterday, and already received good feedback so far, including yours truly (well, aren't I doing this review, eh?) To end today with this mix is a good way to end the day. No more reviews from me, time to celebrate Xmas. And so should you. But before you do, why no give this mix a go, and check out Painbringer's Soundcloud channel and Rave Instinct's website? There might be more for you in store, if you love the early sound of course. If you don't, why the fuck are you reading this review? A fantastic mix. Loving the tracks. Even the Gabber version of Painbringer's biggest hit so far. But Ferra's 'Mind Sensations' is my favourite one. And also 'Delivered From Evil' from Arvid. Big tune alert! - Selectabwoy's Platinum Breakz Mix (2021)
Another review coming up. This time it's not Gabber, and not Hardstyle, but Drum and Bass. Another style much appreciated by yours truly. And also another mix by Selectabwoy, who we can always appreciate a LOT! And this time he has decided to go back in time, to 1996, and the album that was released that year: 'Platinum Breakz' by Metalheadz, the label that took the world by storm, and has been an influential label ever since. This is one of the Metalheadz's CDs that I actually own, and still one of my most favourite DnB/Jungle album of all time. But it was never a mixed CD, but thankfully Selectabwoy decided to put all the tracks into one amazing mix, one you will appreciate a lot! Some DJs are just extremely under appreciated, and Selectabwoy is one of them. He's been such a huge force on Soundcloud, with hundreds of excellent mixes. You name it, and he's made a mix of it. He was actually a DJ I voted for in the DJ Mag Top 100 malarky. He deserves a bigger stage, as he's been providing the world with some tremendously excellent mixes. But before I start kissing his arse too much, let's focus on the mix, and the album all these tracks were taken of. If you go onto Discogs, you will find a lot of reviews. A lot of positive reviews. Some go into a lot of details describing what this album had done to them, and how much of an impact this album has had over the years. Some say these CDs were very important to the DnB fanatics, and some just say CD 1 was much better, and CD 2 was weaker. Whatever your opinion is of this album, we all know for sure that the tracks on this compilation have stood the test of time, and do make an appearance in multiple mixes and CDs over the years. Fan favourite songs are on this, and an obvious choice by Selectabwoy to turn this unmixed CD into one mix. If you have never heard of this CD, or never seen the tracks which were on this, let me show you the tracklist of Selectabwoy's mix. You won't know what hits you: DnB classic, one after the other! Doc Scott - Far Away Lemon D - In My Life Digital - Down Under Wax Doctor - The Spectrum Photek - Consciousness Dillinja - The Angels Fell J Majik - Final Approach Peshay - The Nocturnal (Back On The Firm) Doc Scott - The Unofficial Ghost Asylum - Da Base II Dark Rufige Kru - V.I.P. Rider's Ghost Dillinja - Armoured D J Majik - Your Sound Alex Reece - Pulp Fiction Peshay - Psychosis Source Direct - A Made Up Sound Hidden Agenda - The Flute Tune If you are a Drum and Bass fan, you know each and every tune in this mix. And you might even say that 'The Unofficial Ghost' or 'Armoured D' are your favourite records, right? Or am I completely wrong? What is your favourite song of this mix/this album? Leave a comment below! There are just simply 17 amazing records. They are heavy hitters, all of them. Some are so damn hard and rough, and some are 'lighter' compared to the others. For example, 'The Unofficial Ghost' is indeed a hard, rough, heavy hitting song. And yes, my favourite of this mix/CD too! Small side note: am I the only one who dislikes 'Pulp Fiction' a tiny bit? This track must have appeared in every bloody DnB mix ever made. Never a fan of the film. The track is a solid track, but because of overkill I cannot hear this song anymore. I need a couple of years of NOT hearing it for it to become a favourite again. A solid mix by Selectabwoy again. But I would never question his skills as a DJ. Each and every mix has always spot on, and even when we weren't ready for a new mix, he always surprised me with a new mix. He has made a blessed mix, and one that you might need to hear, if you are fed up of hearing Xmas tunes everywhere. Get some DnB down you, and learn a bit more about the history, and what the sound was that was produced back in 1996. A glorious year for DnB. Fuck it, I've just changed my mind. Best song has to be 'Your Sound' by J Majik. Reminds me of Goldie's Essential Mix he did back in the day. One of the finest mixes EVER made. - Ultimate ZANY Classics Showcase Vol.1 (2204-2007) (16.12.2021)
Some days you just learn new stuff, stuff that amazes you. And today is such a day. We started off the day with a Christmas Gabber mix, but now it's time for a Hardstyle mix, a classic one, and all the tracks are by one of the most well known DJs in the Hardstyle scene: DJ Zany. And what I didn't know about him, is that he was part of the Shadowlands Terrorists. How's that for some interesting trivia on this wonderfully mild Christmas Eve? I knew he was part of the Donkey Rollers, but never part of the Shadowlands Terrorists! And that he started in the Hardcore scene before moving into Hardstyle. Over the years he has been very successful, and I can say this as my own opinion: he's been more successful in the Hardstyle scene compared to the Hardcore scene. When Hardstyle was born in the early 2000s, he was one of the producers I appreciated a lot! Never had the chance to hear him perform live (I think), but would have been amazing to hear these classic tunes coming through the speakers, eh? And he's made some memorable classic Hardstyle anthems back in the day. And Audioholik thought the same, and he composed this showcase mix. 74 minutes of DJ Zany's production from 2004 to 2007. So what can you expect to hear in this mix? All wicked Hardstyle classic anthems from back in the day. 17 of the finest DJ Zany records from back in the day, and they had this distinctive sound, which still resonates in 2021. A much loved and much missed sound, so unique to the early Hardstyle sound. And if I am brutally honest for once, I do have to acknowledge that the early Hardstyle sound still rocks, and is even better than the present day Hardstyle. Fuck it, I just said it, fight me in the comments. Before fights start erupting, check out the tracklist, and press play. Let the music speak for itself! Zany - Science & Religion (Science Mix) Zany - Freakz A*S*Y*S - Cheers (Zany Remix) Zany - Inflator Zany - Thugs Dana - Mash (Zany Remix) Return Corps - Wrong Frequency (Zany Remix) Zany - Deep Inside Southstylers - Diz Tortion Tuneboy - Demolition (Zany Remix) Zany - Widowmaker Southstylers - Wroaw Zany - Feel The Drumz Lock 'N Load - Blow Ya Mind (Zany Remix) Donkey Rollers - Mothers*ck (Zany Remix Remastered) Zany & Duro - Back Again Philippe Rochard - Survivors Of Hardstyle (Zany Remix) Now this is a Hardstyle mix I wasn't ready for, and little did I know I wanted this so badly! It's like Audioholik looked inside my head and knew that he had to make this mix. Not especially for me, obviously, but he knew that this music was well needed to be heard again. More of this please, and I'm guessing more will be coming soon, as this is the first volume! I can talk a lot about Zany, but I'd rather just discuss this mix. It's 74 minutes long, and has got 17 records in it. That's enough said, right? Not only Zany's own productions are in here, but also a few of the remixes he made. A good mix, with sick anthems. Underestimated period in the Hardstyle scene, that's for sure. Audioholik has made a lot of interesting mixes in the past, and this is one of his finest mixes. The best of his mixes has to be Scot Project's showcase mix: I still listen to this at least once a week. But this comes close, really close. Another wicked thing about this mix is the fact that it's downloadable. A wicked Christmas present, all for free! And it's got the biggest Donkey Rollers track in it, remixed by Zany: 'Motherf*ck'. Argue whatever you like, but this has to be the best song in this mix. Maybe even the best Zany song ever? Nah, that has to be 'Volt', which might appear in volume 2, who knows? - It's Beginning To Sound A Lot Like Christmas (2017)
It is about to happen! It's Christmas Eve, and people all over the world are getting excited: what did Santa Claus have on his list, and which presents will he be dropping all over the world? And if you do not celebrate this, you might be sitting there in your house, bored stiff. If you hate Christmas, or you need to work, I can fully relate to that. It's been difficult to remain in the spirit when you have to work, when the whole world is slaughtering millions of turkeys and chickens. But there's a solace for most of us: the music still remains around us all, and even though you aren't feasting on delicious food, you can still rave away. And today's mix is one you have seen before on this site, and it's been reviewed a few years in a row now, because it's unique ... Hardcore and Christmas, does it go together well? Well, maybe. They tried to make it a thing within the scene during the early 90s, but it just never caught on. There could be a good reason behind it: it's a cheese fest. It is proper cheese fest. And it's music that can only be played during the festive period we call Christmas: would be weird listening to Hardcore Christmas music during the rest of the year, right? It never caught on, but still remained music sought after. It is strange, but I've got this fetish. I just feel slightly happier when I hear Christmas tunes being butchered and turned into a Gabber tune. Is it quality music? Well, if you had a few drinks it might be the best music made ever. So, back in 2017 the channel History of Happy Hardcore uploaded this hour and a half long mix, filled with the cheesiest Hardcore/Gabber tunes ever made. And it's cheesy as hell! You might be thinking that it's cheesy and made by some bedroom producers, but it's made by well known Hardcore artists such as Scott Brown, Paul Elstak, Rotterdam Termination Source, El Bruto, Davie Forbes and more. Let's just say it's just a weird period in their producing history. Hardcore and Christmas were well, back during the early 90s. So let us get ready for the festive few days, and let me show you what's in this mix: Rotterdam Termination Source - Merry X-Mess The S.T. Crew - Ravin' Angels The S.T. Crew - Christmas With S.T. Scott Brown - Start The Cavalry The Frosties - Frosty The Snowman Carlos Mirilla - Escarola Rob X-Mas - Happy Christmas Santasaurus-Rex - Up On A House Top Claustrophobia - X-Mas Rave Holy Shit - Now It's Christmas Davie Forbes - Bingle Jells Brothers In Crime - Sleigh Rave Winter Wonderland - Fuck Christmas Songs Sunblock-X - Caribbean X-Mas Claus S - Family X-Mass X-Mass Raver - Hallelujah Sensor - Rudolf The Rednose Ravedeer Santa For President - Santa Is Coming El Bruto - Silverbells Paul Elstak - Hosanna Brothers In Crime - 100% Christmas Scrooge - X-Mass Alone Scarface - Santawaus The Triplets - Marry X-Mazz D & F - No Sleep T'ill X-Mass Bang Crosby - I'm Dreaming Noise Gate - The Magic Sack This is cheesy. I think I've mentioned it many times before in other reviews, but it is. And isn't Christmas cheesy too? What are we actually doing? Sitting around a tree, have our houses decorated (some go a tad too far), and we watch really poorly written Christmas films ... So it does fit in well with the festive season. Are these quality tunes? Nope. Are they forgotten gems? Nope. We are reminded of this kind of music when the festive season arrives, but throughout the whole year we tend to forget this even exists. But when it does come along, we tend to hop on it, and go nuts. It is all about having fun, and having a good time. And this mix by History of Happy Hardcore does the job extremely well. It might have been a forgotten type of Hardcore, but still enjoyable. Sometimes you just need to have a good laugh, eh? The tunes are cheesy, but there are a few in this mix which I really appreciate! And those are the four last tracks. But 'The Magic Sack' is especially one I really like a LOT. Have a wonderful and festive few days, and stay safe. Fuck COVID, enjoy Christmas!!!! - Drokz x Proactive HC 2020 Ironfist Megamix
The weekend is ahead of us, and we are only a handful of days ahead of Christmas. You might be thinking that the time of year should be festive, and most of us are in a festive mood. But some out there might not want to have something festive coming through their speakers: they might want something hard, rough and tough, Well, for those grinches I've got a brilliant mix for them to jump on: a mix by Drokz a.k.a. Opa Drokz x Proactive HC from last year. If you have missed it last year, here I am, reminding you of this mix, and how jolly this Christmas is going to be if you play this instead of the usual crap on the radio! Now, Drokz is a well known name in the Hardcore/Terror scene, and he's seen as one of the originators of the harder sound. Also known as opa (which means grandad in Dutch). Proactive HC might be a tad less known, but if you are following Drokz, you might have seen the posts on social media about this new project which he's involved with: he started this project back in 2019 with a fellow Hardcore fanatic, and has given us memorable anthems since the birth of this project, and back in 2020 they decided to make this megamix. Megamix you say? Yes, I did say megamix. Don't know where the name Ironfist came from, maybe from the Marvel universe? It is crammed with a lot of records in a short period of time, and the tracks are hard. You know that Drokz is an originator, and only plays the hardest stuff on God's given Earth, and this mix is no exception: be prepared to be blown away. Most of you lot have already seen this mix and heard it, and have seen the tracklist, but if you one of those people who have missed it initially (like this bloody reviewer), here's the list: Proactive HC - Who The Fuck Proactive HC x Vandal!sm - Someone Make Some Noise Proactive HC - Smoking And Alcohol Drinking Proactive HC - Bad Reputation Proactive HC - The Definition Of Hard Drokz - Stealin' Yo Shit 005 Drokz - Karma Drokz - We Get On Drugs Drokz - Laten We Dronken Worden Drokz & LTM - The Working Man Is The Tough Guy Drokz - Cocaine The Devils Brain Akira & MC Metal D - Trancetrutje (Drokz Remix) Drokz - Celebrate Life Creatures Of The Occult - You Are Infected Drokz - I Don't Need No Gimmicks See, told you. It's a short ass mix, but they still crammed in 15 records. It's got everything you need to get you through this weekend. And we all need it: I'm guessing a lot of people will go Christmas shopping, and you need something tough to make your way through thousands of people in shops, just standing in your way. Put your headset on, put this mix on, and have the volume on max: there's no better way of enjoying this mix. The volume NEEDS to be on the max. Proactive HC is a new project, but one with a lot of potential. I only knew of their existence because of their record 'The Definition Of Hard'. When I heard that record for the first time, I knew instantaneously that this Proactive HC was going to be something good, and something that would last a life time. And they've proven me right so far. Obviously COVID has been a fucking nightmare, and if that didn't happen, we would be seeing more of them. But at least they've made a start, and we will surely see and hear more from them in the future. A nice balanced but hard as nails mix. Nicely balanced between Drokz' own tracks and Proactive HC. But I've got to give Proactive HC all the credit for making 'The Definition Of Hard'. What a blinding record! That record is a true dancefloor smasher, and is one that will demolish speakers all over the world. This mix is nearly at 10k plays on Soundcloud, surely we can crank it up, and give every Terrorhead across the world a brilliant Christmas??? - Carbon Based Tribute Mix (2021)
It's Tuesday. Tuesday Freeform day! And I know you are all eager to hear some Freeform, and have I got a mix for you all1 If you are into Freeform, you know that there are some Finnish producers and DJs out there, and the Freeform scene is quite big there. Compared to The Netherlands, it's massive. And Carbon Based is a well known name in the Finnish and UK Freeform scene. So today's mix is all about Carbon Based, and their finest tunes. All mixed together by Girdler Synthetic. Don't know much about Girdler Synthetic, so let's focus on what he's done. The mix is roughly 2 hours long, and have got 20 of the finest Carbon Based records in it. I don't know much about Carbon Based, and I had to Google them for more information, And it gave me some interesting facts that I wasn't aware of. You want to know which facts? Well, why not check them out yourself, and start Googling them (if you haven't already). But what I can say to you, is that they are linked to the Finnish label FINRG, And if you really don't know this label, then my question to you is: do you even know what Freeform is? Do you really know your music, eh? This label is such a big label, and has got shit tons of artists, like Carbon Based, Alek Szahala, Alchemiist, Hedonistik Ritual, Pain On Creation, Proteus, Substanced, and more. A very influential label, and well known all over the world for their Freeform music. But today it's all about Freeform, and Carbon Based. So what has Girdler Synthetic got for us in store? Well, these records! Carbon Based - Underworld Species Carbon Based - Xerosis Carbon Based & DJ RX - Titor Quantum Theory Shanty, Tazz & Loopy - Maximum (Carbon Based Remix) Carbon Based - Real Stuff Carbon Based - The Choice Carbon Based & DJ RX - Reptile Carbon Based & DJ RX - Biomechanoid Carbon Based - Painkiller Carbon Based - Fatal Flashback DOK - Mental Ward (Carbon Based Remix) Carbon Based - Outer Rings E-nrg & Carbon Based - Jerk Awake Carbon Based - Reactivated Carbon Based, E-nrg & Nemes - Prologue Carbon Based - Savage Man 2004 E-nrg & Carbon Based - Illuminate Carbon Based - Ultimate Protection Carbon Based - Anger Ball Carbon Based - Cyclone This is a lot of Carbon Based stuff, and if you love your Freeform/FINRG/Trancecore, you will love this mix. It has a bit of everything in it, and it will please the listeners. Girdler Synthetic has done a marvellous job in composing this mix, and playing these records. Fantastically mixed together. Good selection of records too though. The mix has a nice flow to it, and you won't know the 2 hours have already gone. It goes in a blink of an eye. But that's good: at least the music keeps the stress and anxiety away, and the day goes by without you even knowing it. I am sitting here, enjoying myself (I know that sounds wrong, but you know what I mean), and my day started at 6 this morning, but it's already nearly 10. And you know that makes you more productive when you've got wicked music playing in the background. I really enjoyed this mix, and each and every track. They do make Freeform music, but with a twist. A slight twist. A highly enjoyable yet futuristic twist. It does have influences from the Trancecore period and the present day Freeform scene. It's got everything you need and more. I know that it might not be your cup of tea, but give it a try. With 25 years of experience, Carbon Based knows what to do to please the Freeform fanatics out there, and I include myself among them. I'm a Freeform freak. And I love it. And also this mix, love this mix a lot. Thanks Girdler Synthetic for this epic mix, and thanks Carbon Based for these awesome songs! More please! The only comment I've got is the fact that the file is 1,19 GB! That's massive. Just make sure you don't download it onto your phone, otherwise your storage will go down massively. - Hardcore Breakbeat 01 (2021)
It is Wednesday and I am feeling fine. Hopefully you are feeling fine too, and are excited for the next mix I'm about to share with you all. I know the last couple of weeks my focus has been on European Hardcore/Gabber, but today I'm reviewing a Breakbeat Hardcore mix by Floyd The Barber, Thanks to our Greek friend GL0WKiD for sharing this, otherwise I might have missed this completely. Leave it to GL0WKiD to share excellent music with all of us. But the focus is on the barber, and the barber in question is Floyd. Floyd The Barber. What a name. But the name does not reveal what he does. He's a barber who also DJs, and his mix, which is called 'Hardcore Breakbeat 01', is full of Breakbeat Hardcore anthems. All brand spanking new tunes. I am not a full on Breakbeat fanatic like Floyd or GL0WKiD, but whenever I do find a mix suitable for me, I do fully emerge myself into it. And the easy thing is, that Breakbeat Hardcore does fully take over your mind in an instance. You won't even recognise yourself being a completely different person: you are just dancing like monkeys on acid! Obviously I normally go on fully bonkers at this stage, talking about bollocks. But I shouldn't.The only thing I should mention is the fact that I do not listen to Breakbeat Hardcore that often, and I do kick myself for not listening to it more often. This is one of those mixes which should inspire me to indulge myself more into Breakbeat Hardcore, and hopefully I will be able to find more and more mixes. Such an underrated yet exciting style! So, the tracklist. You will love this. Here it is: MotivBreaks - Free Your Soul (Me, Myself & I Remix) Luis Pitti - Liquid Dreams Culture Trax - Steps Crashead - Fanatikal Stu Keating - You're Hardcore Crashead - Shafted Pete Cannon - Do It Again Crashead - Everything Jonny L - Hurt You So (Bootleg Remix) MotivBreaks - Free Your Soul (Free Your Soul Sanxion Remix) Audio X - Get This Party Crackin' Audio X - Everything Will Be Okay Pete Cannon - Dream Again ABSOLUTE feat Bklava - U4IA Filiber - Pulse Neap Tide - Area 51 AA - Alarm Xertz - Monopoly Xertz - April Fool Braille - My Parent's Basement Pete Cannon - These Sounds Pete Cannon - Your Fantasy Phuture Assassins - Future Sound (Dead Dread Remix) This tracklist sadly did nothing to me, as I'm not a full on Breakbeat fanatic, so the names didn't ring a bell. But once I started listening to this mix, I knew that there were a few names in here which I have to follow (look out for). Especially someone called Crashead, and Audio X. They certainly made the two finest tracks in this mix. I really enjoyed this mix. Nice and melodic Breakbeat Hardcore. Whoever this Floyd The Barber is, he's done a majestic job. From the first to the last second the tunes keep on coming, and the pace is steady. There's a good energetic flow throughout this mix, and at no stage did it become annoying. This is literally 84 minutes of pure pleasure. The mix is intoxicating, and very entertaining. I can go on for hours, but I really, really enjoyed this mix. No errors, no mistakes, just pure pleasure. And it's got 'Everything Will Be Okay' and 'Everything' in it. Superb tracks, superb mix! - Heroes Of Hardcore - Marc Acardipane/DJ Promo/The Stunned Guys (1999)
The year is 1999, the year Prince a.k.a. TAFKAP was singing about. And Hardcore was on its last legs. The culture was changing, and it started to move more and more underground. But as bad as it was, it also had a few positives: a lot of wicked CDs were released. The album I'm talking about now was released in 1999, but wasn't the only one in the series. It started 3 years earlier, with the release of mixed CDs by Buzz Fuzz, Lady Dana, and DJ Weirdo. It then had a triple CD release in 1997 twice, with one being the American Edition, with DJ Omar Santana, Rob Gee, and Delirium, and the next one was focussed on Rotterdam, with Paul, Rob, and Waxweazle all jumping behind the decks. In 1998 only one CD was released, with The Darkraver, Gizmo, and Isaac mixing Hardcore tunes together, and in 1999 this CD was released alongside another one, which was mixed by The Masochist, Miro, and Neophyte. But the one today is all about Marc Acardipane, Promo, and The Stunned Guys. I might be absolutely wrong, which I often am, but I think this was the only compilation which I had all CDs from. And I devoured them all. It became so bad that after a while the CDs became unplayable due to the amount of scratches. Seriously, this in par with Thunderdome was the most played CD series in my history. And that's not a lie. Well, maybe I played the Yabba Dabba Dance series more, but that's just because it was my first CD ever. All jokes aside, this mix series is really good. If you are too young and you weren't around back then and you want to be introduced to the 'early' sound, this compilation is worth spending your time on. You got the finest producers and DJs, all on these glorious CDs. Quality tunes, quality mixes. Seriously, this is a line up of artists most events can only dream of. And the music, as mentioned many times before, was way better than the present day Hardcore. But is that because I'm getting old? In only three years it came and went at the same time. Maybe revamp this mix series with the new legion of artists? Could be a nice return to a mighty series. The triple CD I am into at the moment is the one with Marc Acardipane, Promo, and The Stunned Guys. If you haven't listened to this one already, you are missing out on some bangers. Which ones you might ask? Well, these: CD 1: The Stunned Guys Turbolenza - Master Of The Universe The Reactor & Raoul meet Impulse Factory - Rock My World The Stunned Guys - In The Name Of Juno's Neophyte - Anybody Out There Evil Activities - Darkness At Noon E-Man - Bass Machine The Stunned Guys - Deep Impact DJ Rob & The Future - What Do We Die For? G-Town Madness - So Real Tommyknocker & MC Lob - Strike Neophyte vs Stunned Guys - Revolution 909 DJ Niel - The Sound From The Deep DJ Lancinhouse meets The Stunned Guys - Brain Confusion The Stunned Guys & DJ Paul - Thrillseeka The Stunned Guys - She Buzz Fuzz - King Of The Beats Men Of Steel - The Future Is Ours The Headbanger - The Nightmare Man The Stunned Guys - Mind Controller The Stunned Guys - I Am A Gabber CD 2: DJ Promo Intro - The Darkness Catscan & DJ Promo - Midnight Impact DJ Promo - Up Yours DJ Promo - Emotions Over Anger Miro - Shining E-Man - E-Shifter Mad-E-Fact - The Hustle DJ Promo - King Of Pain The Masochist - Killing Scum (DJ Promo meets Shaolin Remix) DJ Promo - What The Fuck? DJ Niel - The Sound From The Deep DJ X-Ess & DJ Promo - Vicious Circle DJ Promo - Driven By Instinct DJ Promo - Metal Warfare G-Shock - Demons Evil Activities - What's Inside Me? DJ Paul & The Stunned Guys - Thrillseeka DJ Arjuna - Totally Lost Hard Creation - I Will Have That Power Neophyte - Number One Fan Turntable Disciples - Vortex Outro - We'll Meet Up Again CD 3: The Stunned Guys Mescalinum United - Sounds From Jupiter Tilt! - Hell-E-Copter The Rapist - Mortal Fear The Masochist - Killing Scum (DJ Promo meets Shaolin Remix) E-Man - E-Shifter Max-E-Crew - Dance Of Death (Deadly Mix) Bulldozer Project - Something Special The Stunned Guys & DJ Paul - Thrillseeka (Marc Acardipane Mix) DJ Promo - Emotions Over Anger Neophyte - Real Hardcore Marshall Masters - Eternal Rave Creator - E-Razor Endymion - Failure E-Man - Bass Machine Sound Enhancers - Arena Creations Miro - The Shining Rave Creator - Wake Up E-Rush - Fuck You Man (Army Of Darkness Remix) Pilldriver - Apocalypse Never Mescalinum United - Live In Brixton One of the first things I've noticed, which I've never noticed before, is the fact that certain tracks were played in multiple mixes, like for example 'Thrillseeka' and 'E-Shifter' and 'Bass Machine'. Nowadays you might think that's not original, but I look at it from another perspective: these tracks were just so damn good, they had to be repeated. And it is what binds all these DJs together: love for the music. As diverse as their mixes were, they still had a lot in common, music wise. OK, let's get this over with: my best record of each disc. It was difficult, but the choice is as follows: CD 1 : Men Of Steel - The Future Is Ours CD 2 : Neophyte - Number One Fan CD 3 : Bulldozer Project - Something Special You know these tracks make sense. It was really difficult, in my honest opinion. Like there were so many great tracks to choose from. And each DJ brought their own vision to the table, and gave us a very special mix. Obviously the Stunned Guys, Promo, and Marc Acardipane selected a shit ton of their own records, but it's oh so damn worth it. As the scene was dying, the music still remained great. Well, at least the non-commercial side of Hardcore. And these three CDs prove my point. It is one of my most favourite CDs of all time, closely followed by the other Heroes Of Hardcore CD by Miro, The Masochist, and Neophyte. A great compilation, with fantastic tracks selected. Is it perfect? The mixing could have been at certain times be slightly better, but it's 1999, times were different. The power behind this compilation can still be felt in 2021. 22 years later, and I'm still raving on about this compilation. One you must certainly listen to, if you want to indulge yourself into the era we call the 90s (it's more like Millennium Hardcore stuff, but who fucking cares?) - DJ A.K. - Ruffneck Classics Mix 02.10.21
The WEEKEND is here! Finally, after a long and arduous week it's time for us to wind down. But still remain vigilant, and kill the Omicron virus and COVID-19. You don't want to catch it, and if you are planning on going out this weekend, rave safely! We don't want you to get ill: we just want you to get HARDCORE! And what a way to start our weekend with: a Ruffneck classics mix! The mighty Dutch label that has given us many exciting anthems over the years. And who's the DJ behind this mix? Well, none other than DJ A.K. Oldschool Hardcore is just the best. We are all just saying it because it's true. I finally understand my parents when they say 'the music of our generation was much better, the music we grew up with'. The same applies to all of us, 'oldies'. I don't understand the present day music as much as I want to. It isn't as elegant or as smooth as the 90s and early 2000s music. And imho, Ruffneck was one of those important labels during the 90s that gave us the tunes we were waiting for. But not just that: this label was the birth place of timeless classics! DJ A.K has given us many memorable mixes before, but this just tickles me slightly more and more. Could it be because I am Dutch and have a affection for Hardcore music? Is it because Hardcore music runs through my veins? And stroopwafels too of course. The mix is filled with the biggest records of this legendary label, and when I say the biggest, I do mean the biggest. But this could be a tricky thing to ask you readers: can you spot who's behind the aliases? Is it all made by DJ Ruffneck? He's one of those producers who nearly had a new alias each week, and I lost track on which is and which isn't a Ruffneck production. Could be a funny game? Spot the Ruffneck! So, good luck, and let me know: Knightvision - My Salvation Predator vs Wedlock - Get On Down Wedlock - Ganjaman Wedlock - I'm The Fuck You Man Knightvision - Who Is It? Trickster - Artcore Reggaebeat Diss Reaction - Jiieehaaa Lockjaw - Get Sorted Predator - Mind Of A Lunatic Wedlock - The Tower Lockjaw - Deep In The Underground Juggernaut - Don't Fuck With A Ruffneck Lockjaw - Reactor Cybernators - Not Responsible Phoenix - (Now) Who's In Control?! Predator - Dubplate Style Lockjaw - The Point Trickster - Emphasis On Hardcore Knightvision - Knight Of Visions Predator - We're Coming Down Cybernators - No Out Of Here Predator - The Strongest Gang Wedlock - Ruffneck (Sound Of The Drum & The Bass) Now this is a good looking tracklist, wouldn't you agree? If you are into Ruffneck and his label, you will think that this is a mix that might give you an eargasm. This is basically my youth in a mix, all crammed in an hour long mix. So many, and I do mean so many awesome tunes were released on this label. They were one of the most important labels of the 90s, without a shadow of a doubt. DJ A.K.'s selection is a good 'un. These songs were played at many events during the 90s, and even in 2021 they are played (well, sporadically, because the amount of events has dramatically been reduced due to COVID-19). And if you were a CD hoarder like myself, you would find these songs on many compilations. They were everywhere. And all those compilations I bought. I spent a fortune in CD stores. To no avail, as we've gone all digital now. But it's a nice memory to think back of. I have only got love and appreciation for this mix. So many wicked anthems, so many memories. And the best record of this mix has got to be 'Mind Of A Lunatic'. Such a great and powerful anthem. Thanks A.K. for yet another wicked mix! Highly recommendable. DJ: A.K. - Hardcore Will Never Die 380 (Maynor Guestmix) (2021)
Hardcore will never die. Now that's a statement and a half, right? There will be a time when Hardcore will die, but that's probably not in our lifetime. Maybe in 3088 people will get bored of Hardcore music and decide to jump ship to bombcore. Or whatever the people in the future listen to. But for now Hardcore is much alive and kicking, and if you have been on Soundcloud, you must have been following this page, maintained by DJ ECZ, who is behind the successful podcast series called 'Hardcore Will Never Die', and for the 380th edition he played a guest mix made by Dutch newcomer Maynor. If you have been a fan of early Hardcore being revamped by upcoming artists such as Maynor, Casketkrusher and more, you will immediately know who Maynor is and what he's capable of. As EZC mentions during the intro, he comes from the birthplace of Hardcore, The Netherlands. But not just the fact that he's from The Netherlands is important, it's also the fact that he has got the skills to produce Hardcore anthems in the 20s with that distinctive sound of the 90s. His records are certainly influenced by the 90s, that's for damn sure! You can tell that he has a lot of inspiration from well known songs from the early Hardcore days. So many memorable details in each song. If this doesn't tickle your early (Happy) Hardcore bone, nothing will. Maynor knows how to capture the 90s in his songs, and in this 65 minute long guest mix he proves that he's at the top of the leader board. He shows us all how these forgotten sounds are to be recaptured and turned into glorious time capsule songs (=songs that have got this newer vibe but yet older style surrounding it). Now you are interested, I've tickled your interest bone, right? So, let me show you what Maynor played! Maynor - My Beat Maynor - Back To The UK Maynor - The Music Maynor - Freaky Maynor - The Future Maynor - Burning Floor Maynor - A Night Like This Maynor - Burning Acid Maynor - Fly High Try Casketkrusher - Break This Motherfucker! (Maynor Remix) Maynor - Get Up & Party Maynor - If I Could ... Maynor - Get Busy Maynor - Panic Casketkrusher - Get Crazy! (Maynor Remix) Maynor - French Kicks, Licks & Dicks Maynor - Why? When you hear this mix for the first time, your mind is blown into smithereens. You don't know what hit you. But slowly you are grasping the fact that you have just discovered a very fine Dutch Hardcore producer, and that his tunes are solid as a rock, and you are sitting there with a semi. Nothing to be ashamed about, I'm currently having the same feeling as you do. All jokes aside, this is a solid mix. With a lot of excellent (*new*) tunes. And you can hear the influences clearly: he might have had a lot of influences when producing these records, but as familiar as they sound, he still made the tracks his own, and made them work. A lot of Happy Hardcore and 'normal' Hardcore vibes. Glorious, if you ask me. I do love this mix a lot. This has got everything I wanted to hear. The old vibes in a new jacket. As familiar as these sound, they are brand new. And that's exciting too, as it makes me crave for more. The new 'old' sound really appeals to me, and when I close my eyes, I am back in my bedroom in Heerlen (The Netherlands), and I'm 16 again. Raving and stomping so hard on the floor that my parents are shouting to me to turn this 'fucking music DOWN'. Oh, that's just a glorious feeling. A fantastic mix. And 'Why?' has to be the best. Why? Well, that's why!
