DJ Virus is back with a brand new mix! If you don't know who that is, don't worry: I am here to tell you. Well, to be fair, I don't know much about him either. There's one thing I do know; he makes wicked mixes! All wicked Hardcore mixes. And no, I'm not talking about the Dutch Gabber stuff. I'm talking about the Breakbeat stuff. You know, the style that's got a lot of pianos in it. And it has Breaks and beats and bits. You know what I mean right? Anyway, DJ Virus. I've reviewed a few mixes in the past. Especially the ones focussed on specific years: 'The Hardcore Years' mix series. A very successful and interesting concept, which has gained many listeners. But this man deserves more plays on Soundcloud, and I think his latest mix will gain a lot of new followers too. You know I love my Breakbeat, and I am not the only one. Even though it was at its peak during the 90s and many ravers have fond memories of this kind of Hardcore music, it has become slightly more underground nowadays. The market has shrunken slightly, which is a shame. Breakbeat Hardcore any day, mate. It isn't as big as it used to be, but the music is still great, and epic. And for his latest mix DJ Virus has picked a shit ton of exclusives. Well, exclusive to me: I've not heard any of these before. So here's the tracklist for those who can't get enough of Breakbeat, like yours truly! Rico Tubbs feat The Ragga Twins - Rule Dancehall (Manix Mix) Persons Unknown - 2020 2 You (VIP) Shark - Shroomz Stratton - Gettin' Out (Unhappy Hardcore Mix) Coco Bryce - Come On Feet Tuff Tunes - Like This Boca feat Progus - Watching the World Go By Puffin' Billy - Rush On Me Persons Unknown - 2020 Pianism (It's All About The Fuckin' Piano Mix) Manix - The Feeling Unknown Artists - Trigger Happy Volume 2B2 Coco Bryce - Lost Without You Manix - You're Dreaming Infekto - Fortune Teller Hyped On Acid - Fall Down On Me Lavery feat Puffin' Billy - If You're Happy & You Know It, Take An E Acen - Play 2092 (Part 2) Hyperkinetic - Hold It Together Unknown Artist - Wave Emoji Puffin' Billy - Millie O2 A NRG - I Love It Liquid & Pete Cannon - Stringys Persons Unknown - 2020 Break The Edit (VIP) Slim Sinna - Come Alive I have to say, before you all get judgemental, I do know most of the artists, but not the music, alright? I am not a walking Wikipedia page. At least I'm acknowledging that the music exists, and I contribute by sharing this mix. Why, you might ask? Well, because the music is really great. And there's one track that has literally blown me into a million pieces. OK, let's get right to it. Whoever Persons Unknown is/are, they have made a blooming epic record with '2020 Pianism', with a sick remix title. The first time I heard that first immense drop and I felt the windows trembling, I knew that the track was going to be something else. And surely it was something else. This piano driven track has got everything that makes it a wicked Breakbeat/Happy Hardcore anthem. Whoever is behind Persons Unknown, for you I take my head off. But it's not only the 9th record in this mix which caught my attention. It's the whole mix. The selection is great, and carefully mixed together by DJ Virus. He certainly knows how to make it sound effortlessly and flawlessly. So you will get 68 minutes of pure Breakbeat heaven. I can go on and on about this mix, but I am not. We've all got other things to do, so let's focus on other things. But whilst doing those other things, make sure you play DJ Virus' latest mix, and play it out loud. Trust me, you will be in for a treat! Is 2020 the year of the full return of Breakbeat Hardcore? It deserves everything! - Dana @ In Qontrol 19/04/2008 Headquarters Area
Back in 2008 a party was held in the Amsterdam Rai, called In Qontrol. I completely forgot about this events' existence. I did have a few of the CDs they released, but I never knew they stopped back in 2010 due to an increase of taxes on tickets, from 6% to 19%. A bit of a shit reason to stop organising this event, but hey ho, they did it anyway. So the last 10 years we haven't had an In Qontrol event? Time does fly by quickly. So why I am talking about this event? I am talking about it, because the other day I discovered a set by Dana, which was recorded at the 2008 edition of this event. During this event, she played the second to last set in the Headquarters area. The other areas were 'Evolution Sector', 'Sin City' and 'The Underground'. Within these four areas you had the finest DJs playing. The line-up is sick, and still holds its strength compared to present day line ups. Brennan Heart, Showtek, Donkey Rollers, Technoboy, Noisecontrollers, Project One, Dozer, A-Lusion, Tha Playah, Promo, Noize Suppressor, The Outside Agency, Weirdo, Public Domain, Lenny Dee, and many, many more. And of course the Queen herself: Dana. previously known as Lady Dana. The Queen can only play on the main stage, and during her hour and 20 minute long set she shows the world why she's the Queen. So much respect for her. I remember seeing her for the very first time back in 1998 at Mysteryland. And she is still the Queen of both Hardcore and Hardstyle. So what kind of tracks did she play? Well, she was full into Hardstyle at that time, so you do get 80 minutes of Hardstyle. The good sounding Hardstyle. You know what I mean, right? Zany & DV8 - Distorted Dutch Master - Get Up DJ Isaac - In My Veins 2 Best Enemies - Les Drums (Technoboy Remix) Headhunterz - Subsonic Scope DJ - Lockdown Josh & Wesz vs Glowiej - Tempo Pusher Dozer - The Church Of The Darkside Dutch Master - Insomnia DJ Rylan - The Beginning The Pitcher - New World The Beholder meets DJ Zany - Euphoria Bruno Power - Superbattlerz (Erik T Remix) Noisecontrollers - Aliens ID - ID Zany & Duro - Our Power Menace II Society - Chronic Disorder I have got to say that Dana gets my respect since the early days of me 'knowing' her. She keeps on pushing boundaries, and her set shows why she is the Queen, and gets the people dancing, no matter what she plays. Terror? Yeah sure, why not. Hardcore? Easy peasy lemon squeeze. Hardstyle? She's got you covered too! Dana is an all rounder, and she gets much respect for that. The good thing about finding these old sets, is that they remind you of a forgotten era of music. We all know Hardstyle and we all love it, but do you still hear these 16 anthems nowadays? No, you don't. And it's a fucking shame. These were dancefloor smashers. Or, Amsterdam Rai shakers! The mix has got a few smashers in it, and the two I really liked were 'Aliens' by Noisecontrollers, and 'Les Drums' by 2 Best Enemies, remixed by Technoboy. You do hear this specific pattern in both of them you simply don't hear anymore in present day Hardstyle. Why did we have to forget these absolute monsters of tracks? The euphoria level has been pushed to another level. I do want the older 'level' back. Please? The only 'bad' bit about this set is the MC. Never a fan, never will be either. Does not add a single thing. Let Dana do her thing, and close your waffle. No need to speak, the Queen can do that with two turntables and a mixer. And big bad ass speakers, and massive laser lights. A wicked set. 2008 was such a good year for Hardstyle. Bring it back, please? I am begging you... Oh, btw. Dana had to end with a Hardcore track. She just had to. - Marco V – Live At Innercity 2000
The year is 2000. The world was a completely different one. And on the 30th of December, the Amsterdam Rai was home to one of the dopest events I've ever been to, Innercity. Organised by the might ID&T, so you know the party was going to be ace. Guess who went to this event? Me, correct. And I think I did have the best night of my whole entire life! You cannot imagine what an 18 year old Dutchman experienced, when he went with his best friend (at the time) to the last event of 2000. So freaking cool. And this party introduced me into another world I not discovered before... The line up was one you could only dream of. And it still stands strong, even to this day. Let me name you just a few name, just a few from all 6 areas: Angelo, Green Velvet, Marco V, Jean, Paul van Dyk, Remy, Sven Vath, Roog, Soul Providers, Erick Morillo, Billy Nasty, Luke Slater, Speedy J, Dave Seaman, Sander Kleinenberg, Tiesto, LTJ Bukem, Joost van Bellen, Mickey Simms, Master Stepz, and more, many more. How's that for a unique event, eh? It has got mixed reviews on multiple websites, but for me it holds a lot of positive memories. One of the weirdest ones I've got is the fact that the Amsterdam Rai was (and still is) massive, and you walked for miles! If you wanted to visit each area, you had to walk miles. A nice breather of a walk, but fuck me, it was exhausting. But hey ho, at least we partied hard. One of the other things I do remember was the lack of mobile phones. We did have them, but they weren't as sophisticated as the ones we've got now. We literally danced, and no one cared. We had a fantastic time. Back in 2001 they released the Marco V - Live At Innercity 2000 CD. It's not really live, but it still has the tracks from that event, played by not only Marco V. But he was king. His records were certainly dancefloor anthems, without a shadow of a doubt. He made memorable anthems, and knew also which records to select to get the crowd going. And this CD just shows how good Innercity was, and the music back in 2000. So let's delve into the tracklist, if you haven't heard or seen it before! 3 Phase - Der Klang Der Familie (Ian Wilkie Remix) Electrique Boutique - Revelation (James Holden Remix) Steve Porter - The Catch Blaze - My Beat (AMbassador Remix) X-Press 2 - AC/DC (Gangbanger Remix) Chab - Matica (Moogwai Mix) Futureshock - Sparc Fred Numf vs 5 Point 0 - Globalisation DJ Nukem vs Chab - Shaiva Chris Cowie - Therapy (Part One) Resistance D - You Were There (Thomas P. Heckmann Remix) Marco V - In Charge Marco V - Recovered Marco V - Indicator Ural 13 Diktators - Total Destruction (Johannes Heil Remix) Now, let me explain one thing: this CD is dope. Really dope. From Progressive House to Tech Trance to Techno, you get the lot. Carefully mixed by Marco V. Not live. If it was indeed live, why the fucking hell didn't they record the crowd screaming? I miss that from most sets, if I'm honest. But the CD is genius. Still stands strong in 2020. And especially Marco V's records. Such an underrated producer. His Millennium work is truly amazing. And I do love 'In Charge', but 'Recovered' is the best from this mixed CD. A fantastic album with a lot of memories. I'm guessing you won't be able to find this masterpiece anywhere at all. You do have Marco's set on Youtube, but today I wanted to treat you to the actual VHS tape recordings, which should give you a glimpse into the past, when I was raving. And check how happy everyone was. And how freaking ace the event was! If you weren't there, you missed out! So the first player is the CD, and the second is the live footage from the event. I want to go back in time. The night itself was magical. It introduced me into the wonderful world of UKG, and has given me countless memories. Mixed reception or not, I fucking experienced the night to the max! Also. check out indeed the second video: there are some tracks on there you might really appreciate!!!!! - Black In Time @ Sensation Black 12/07/2008
The year is 2008. Sensation Black is just referred to as 'BLACK', and the world was open to all of us. With a sick line-up they pleasured the ravers throughout the night: Marcel Woods, Fausto, Headhunterz, Technoboy, Showtek, The Prophet, Donkey Rollers, Black Identity, Evil Activities, Noize Suppressor, Miss Monica, Spider, JP, Fierce Ruling Diva, and Gizmo. It was going to be one of the last events held under the umbrella which was Sensation Black. But those that actually went, had a wicked time. The feedback was all amazing. So for this year's event they decided to come up with something nice: Black In Time. A few well respected DJs, playing early/oldskool Hardcore anthems. So who did they ask? Well, you might have heard of them, if you love your Hardcore music: The Prophet, Bass-D, The Darkraver, The Viper, Buzz Fuzz, Dana, Weirdo, Pavo, and Vince. During their 47 minute long set they all had a small section in which they could play whatever they fancied. And the crowd was loving it! It must have been too hectic to have so many DJs all at the same time behind the decks, hence why they let them play in groups. And during their sets they played the finest early Hardcore anthems we all love and adore. And a few Happy Hardcore anthems, but come on: you have to play at least a few Happy anthems, to liven up the mood, right? The set was uploaded a few years ago onto Magpie303's page, and it came with a tracklist. Thats noice. The Prophet / Bass-D / The Darkraver The Prophet - Big Boys Don't Cry Happymen - Love Is You (The Stunned Guys Hardcore Mix) Masoko Solo - Pessa Pessa The Darkraver & DJ Vince - Thunderground The Masochist - Killing Scum Distortion & MC Raw vs Bass-D & King Matthew - Raveworld The Viper / Buzz Fuzz / Dana Jones & Stephenson - The First Rebirth Bertocucci Feranzano - XTC Love Pino D'Ambini - Up & Down Balls Scott Brown - King Of The Beats Mad-E-Fact vs The Viper - Control The Party Wasting Program - Bring That Shit Back Dune - Hardcore Vibes Forze DJ Team - '98 To Piano Speedy J - Something For Your Mind Bass-D & King Matthew - Hold Me Now Forze DJ Team - '98 To Piano L.A. Dream Team - Dream Team Is In The House (Acapella) Pilldriver - Pitch-Hiker J.D.A. - Voel Je Die Bass Weirdo / Pavo / Vince La Onda - La Onda Jens - Loops & Things Thunderball - Bonzai Channel One Neophyte - Braincracking DJ Weirdo & Phil Omanski - Young Birds The tracks on their own are really great. And it's a good selection by some of the finest DJs. Obviously they are the most well known anthems from our rave history. All, and I do mean all of these anthems are known. If you don't, you are too young. But a true Hardcore legend knows them all. The actual concept is cool: have a bunch of wicked DJs, all play the finest Hardcore anthems. On paper it should work. But to me it just doesn't work. Some sections of the set are really great and you can tell that you've got a proper mix master behind the decks, and other times it's just a fecking mess. Too damn horrible to listen to. Maybe if you are intoxicated you might really like it, and maybe I would too, but I am sober, sitting at home, listening to this. And it doesn't sound great. Certain sections are really nice, and the records themselves are great, but the mixing isn't really great at certain moments. It kind of ruins the listening experience for me. Which is a shame: I highly respect each and every DJ. Maybe they were all already intoxicated too? Oh, and the MC isn't great. I don't like any MCs in the Hardcore and Hardstyle scene. They ruin literally everything. And this MC did not bring anything to the table. Yeah, I found this set, and before listening I thought this would be a great set. It's OK, but nothing special. Kind of ruined by the errors. Ah well, maybe the next set I listen to might be a better one. - DJ Thera & T.C.C. – From The Heart (2020)
As shit as 2020 has been so far, music wise it has been tremendous for me. I don't go out that often due to multiple reasons, so to be 'home schooled' of all the music that is out there in the wide world, is amazing. And funnily enough, the last time I did go to a rave, I saw one of the two artists which album I'm about to review. I am obviously talking about DJ Thera, and the event I saw him at was GPF's first party. Was that back in 2019, or 2018? I can't remember, time is flying by so fucking quick, no time to stand still and reminisce. But not for Thera and T.C.C. With their latest album they decided to reminisce, go back in time, and make an album with 10 records, focussed on the early Hardstyle sound, but with a 2020 twist. No, not with COVID symptoms, but with 2020 equipment and technology. As good as the technology was during the early years of Hardstyle, it can't compete to the advanced world we live in. I am fully aware of who DJ Thera is: I have seen him play and loose himself at GPF's event, but T.C.C. is an unknown artist to me. But with this album T.C.C. has entered my radar. Certainly a name I will follow. Because I do love it when artists in the present day focus on an earlier sound, and make it work beautifully. Other artists just tend to forget the early sound, or try and reproduce it, and 9 times out of 10 it just sucks. Not for Thera and T.C.C. They have nailed it. Early with a twist. So what's on this album, and where can you get it? Well, you certainly can't get it at Van Leest record store, or a Free Record Shop. Online only. But you can choose what you want: you want WAV or MP3? It's up to you. Also, if you are someone who appreciates radio edits, Thera and T.C.C. have got you covered. But if you despise radio edits and love longer versions of records, they have got you covered too! So 20 tracks for the price of 10. Do you want it short or long? You choose. So the focus is on the early sound, but with 2020 equipment and mind set. Anyone interested in the tracklist? DJ Thera feat Yuna-X - Starfleet (T.C.C. Remix) DJ Thera & T.C.C. - History 303 DJ Thera & T.C.C. - Good Work! DJ Thera & T.C.C. - Love Feels Right DJ Thera & T.C.C - Trance Atlantic Express DJ Thera & T.C.C. - Piss Off DJ Thera & T.C.C. - Never Lose Hope DJ Thera & T.C.C. - F.Y.U. DJ Thera & T.C.C. - You Make Me Feel DJ Thera & T.C.C. - 2013 It is a rather short tracklist, but remember, you get the same version twice: one radio edit version and one pro mix version. And you get new records that take you back to around the Millennium. Remember what it was like back then? Clubbing/raving the whole night? You know, that thing we aren't allowed to do in 2020? I had to Google the exact details of the early sound and what makes it unique, but here were go: ''140-150 BPM, a distorted kick drum sound, vocal samples, dissonant synth sounds , and the use of reverse bass''. If that appeals to you, Thera and T.C.C.'s album won't disappoint. The original Hardstyle sound does appeal to me. A bit of everything, but the main ingredient had to be Trance music. Hard Trance to be precise. And it also had that roughness of Hardcore music. If Hard Trance was OK to you, but you wanted it even harder than that. Hardstyle was your thing. Obviously Euphoric Hardstyle came along and changed everything, but the main question is, and it applies to multiple styles: do you prefer the old, or the new? And I would say, for many styles: the old. I do listen to a lot of early albums, and when you do find a gem that focusses on this sound from roughly 20 years ago, it makes your heart pound a tad faster. The album is ace. The cover image looks kind of cool, a nod to the 80s. But the music certainly isn't from the 80s. Hardstyle all the way baby. Together T.C.C and Thera have done their best to come up with this unique album. As cool as some of the records are on this album, like 'F.Y.U.' and 'Good Work!', the more melodic Trance-y anthems are more my thing. Like 'Never Lose Hope' and 'Love Feels Right'. I don't know who influenced Thera and T.C.C. but I am hearing a lot of influences from early artists. Obviously that's a good thing, but it's not a copy-paste thing. Thera and T.C.C. have used early sounds and influences to come up with a wicked album that suits 2020. An unpredictable year. You know I am a lover of everything before 2005. Yes, I am old. Old as fuck. But it is just the sound I grew up with. And this new album is worth every penny you spent on it. Get it now whilst stocks last: when it's sold out, it's sold out. Can't get it ever again, and you will be sad. Very sad. Best record? 'Never Lose Hope'. Just listen to this fucking epic dancefloor smasher!!! Artist: DJ Thera & T.C.C. - CLMT004 | mixed by FFF (2020)
Today it's Wednesday, and it's been a good day. I found a mix you all would appreciate, and it's one of those mixes you just stumble across by accident. This mix would not have been brought to my attention, wouldn't it have been to my wonderful followers on Soundcloud. They made sure I checked out this wonderful mix by FFF, whoever it might be. There is a short interview linked to this mix, you can find it if you click underneath the mix on Soundcloud. So even though you don't know the person, you do get the chance to read about him. From the first second to the last it has been a wonderful session. You know, sometimes you just instantly 'feel' a mix? This was one of those mixes: I pressed play and got hooked immediately. I got early Goldie vibes, wouldn't you agree? The dark and edgy Jungle/Drum and Bass/Breaks vibes are so good to hear on a day when you are full of energy. Today was such a day: I seriously needed something to boost me even more, something that would get me way up in the air. And I think FFF's mix is the right one for me right now Normally I would yap on and on about a mix, but today I will jump straight onto the tracklist. And it's a mixed bag of everything: from well known artists to obscure underground producers. And even FFF's own production can be found in here. Check this out! Interplanetary Criminal - Vapour Circa 96 - Fantasy (Ben Kei & Pesk Remix) Rogue Unit - Dance Of The Sarooes Sully - Bound 4 Cold Mission - The Sound Bizniz Duburban & Jahganaut - Prayer manix - It's Just The Music Coco Bryce - Sweet Gang Bell Curve - Need Somewhere To Rest My Head DJ FLP - Vegetables Philip D Kick - Summer Moods DJ Iodosan - DH 1630 SM (FasT MiX( FFF - Foundation X-Altera - Maximum Love Acidlab - Consciousness Unknown Artist - Broken Systems Tim Reaper - Cityscapes Now, here's the thing. If you are in the 'zone, as I would like to call it, nothing can stop you, and I mean nothing. I've been sitting behind my computer since 7;30 in the morning, and I haven't switched off at all: currently still going on strong. There's no stopping me, and FFF's mix keeps me occupied, and gives me that extra boost I require to continue. And also, sometimes you don't want something to stop. And this is one of those mixes. I've never heard of Cambrian Line or FFF, but I'm really intrigued. What is Cambrian line? Anyway, let's talk about the mix. It's a nicely mixed and balanced mix, that takes you through the wonderful world of Jungle and Breaks and Drum & Bass. It might at some moments come across as a tad rough and tough, but I literally don't feel that. I feel totally euphoric, and in a state of bliss. FFF's mix is so damn good, it blows your mind away. The only criticism I've got is the fact that during 'Bound 4' the audio levels are off. That's the only track that stand out, audio wise. It's also my least favourite record of this mix. Which is the best? Well, FFF saved the best for last. 'Cityscapes' by Tim Reaper! My God, what a pure and unadulterated record. The first time I heard it I was in complete awe, and after hearing it for the 3705th time I still am in awe. What a banger! I would urge you to check this mix out. - Greazy Puzzy Fuckerz - F*CK! The Album (2020)
It's nearly Christmas, and most shops are f**king closed. So we cannot do any Christmas shopping in real shops, online shopping is the only thing that keeps us going. Many people are currently struggling due to multiple reasons (COVID being a big one), and when we do get something thrown at us, we grab it with both hands. But not this album I am about to present to you. It depends: you might love GPF, or extremely hate them. Which camp you are, you will certainly underline the 'importance' of this album. And the good timing for it to be released. As your standard GPF reviewer, I could not let this album go pass. I have already missed out on their previous album. But seeing as I am a cheapskate and love things that are for free (I'm Dutch, you know?), I had to download this album. But, there's a catch! If you don't have Twitch, you cannot get it. So hurry up and create an account, and follow the Greazy Boys on there. And once you do, you are greeted by a 28 track album, compressed into this .rar document. Unzip it, and be a happier person. Now you might be wondering, what the hell is on this album? Can't find any details online? Is it filled with rejected tracks? Are they the tracks that would never get commissioned to be released officially? Basically, are they shit? Well, yes. Remember, it is made by GPF. Quantity over quality, eh? Yes, it contains a few records so awful, you don't want to even pay for them, they are that bad. But it's not all bad. They've included a few big GPF dancefloor smashers, like the one from that shitty film 'Frozen, or what about 'I Fucked A Girl' by Mizz Behave and GPF ! 28 weird and yet delightful records. Requested by everyone and literally no one. One thing aside: GPF do have a brilliant marketing team. And with this team they are getting the word out. Or, in this case, the noise. So, instead of spending any money on shite you don't need, why not get something for free from the boys at GPF HQ. GPF - Roll The Fucks GPF x Rene Karst - Atje Voor De Fuck GPF - Thousand Fucks Headhunterz - Fuck Within (GPF Remix) GPF - Fucking On The Ground Unkind - Overload GPF - Fuckissues Lil Texas x GPF - Blank Fuck GPF feat Da Tweekaz & Spinazie Hunterz - Dragon Porn Fuck Part 69 GPF - Spooky Scary Skeletonz GPF - Tardgedy Da Tweekaz - Moana (Caine and GPFs 200bpm Donk Fuck Duck Piep Kicks Remix) GPF - We Feel Like A Fuck GPF & Mizz Behave - Fuck Met Die Banaan! Da Tweekaz - Frozen (Caine & GPF's Frozen Duck Fuck 197bpm X-qlusive Remix) GPF & Mizz Behave - I Fucked A Girl GPF - Barbie Fuck GPF - All I Want For Christmas Is Fuck GPF - Raggafuck GPF - Meat Fuck GPF - Fuck! (Rooler - Yes! Fuck Up) Toneshifterz - Australia Fuck (GPF Fuck) GPF - Fuck My Mind GPF - I am Your Fuck GPF - Suck On My Fuck GPF - Venga Fuck Mizz Behave - Fuck From Reality GPF - Everytime We Fuck All this for free! Christmas has cum early, and so have I. The tracklist can also be retrieved once you have downloaded and unzipped the album: you get a nice cover and tracklist image. So don't worry, you will know which records you have just downloaded for free. And you should thank the boys for this. Now, the thing is, that with GPF, you never know what they are going to do, or play, or release. And that's just mysterious. Even the fact that we are not sure who's behind GPF. Someone stated that Matty stopped it, and some say it's Sefa and Rooler. And that Caine is homosexual. But this uncertainty can certainly be funny. It cannot be explained to those who do not listen to GPF. You know, sometimes they do make a wicked dancefloor slammer. No joke. For example 'Blank Fuck', 'Fuck Within', 'Moana', 'Frozen, but then on the other hand you have got the most fucked up shit ever, where it's just a normal track with piep kicks, like 'Venga Fuck' , 'All I Want For Christmas Is Fuck', etc. And sometimes they do find a balance between fucked up and 'actually a good 'record'' , like 'Dragon Porn Fuck Part 69'. You just don't know what to expect, and this is what attracts a lot of people. As you are aware, I am a fan of GPF, and do think their latest release is a wicked present from them. It's amazing to get all these records from free. And don't overthink each record, just have fucking fun. - Eugenio (Bass-D) - Mix The House 1 (1992)
You don't need me to tell you who Bass-D is. But maybe you are unaware who is behind Eugenio? Well, they are both the same person. Obviously the Bass-D alias did grow over the years into this majestic name in the Hardcore scene, but before he became a national Hardcore treasure, he was into literally everything else. House? Check! And in 1992, as a young lad, he became the Dutch House DJ Mix Champion. That is 28 years ago, but he's still rocking strong. But back in the days it was cool to become a winner. And the prizes were certainly awesome: as a winner he could mix a CD for this new compilation called 'Mix The House', released on EVA Records. How cool is that? It must have been an excellent feeling, to see and hear yourself on this CD that everyone can buy in the shops! And EVA was a cool label, that has released many wicked and underrated albums over the years. Sadly a defunct label now, but at least they are part of our history. And this CD, which consists of two discs, was a good indication where we would see Bass-D a few years onward. On many CDs. That's what I meant to say. Don't know what happened to the alter ego Eugenio after this?? At least it gave us Bass-D, but not to talk ill about Bass-D. but I do like the Eugenio mix a lot. This is a very tight mix, and the records are certainly very hot anthems! The second disc was mixed by DJ Kosmo and DJ Marque. Yeah, not really fussed about them, I am interested in Eugenio's mix. And the tracklist is a thing of beauty. Levitation - Intro One Tribe feat Gem - What Have You Done (Is This All) Carl Cox - I Want You (Forever) Outlander - Vamp Sonic Solution - On The Move Transformer 2 - Pacific Symphony Too Digital Domain - I need Relief Acen - (Just) Close Your Eyes Interactive - Dildo I.Q. - Voodoo Trashman - Cosmojunk (Bonus Instrumental Mix) 80 Aum feat Larenzo Nash - Stronger Than Steel MKM - Onacrac Mainx - 88 To Piano E.B.Y. - Kinky Love Disco Serendipity - Do You Feel Kicks Like A Mule - The Bouncer N.U.K.E. - Nana Cascade - Do What You Wanna Do Ultimate Seduction - Housenation Westbam - The Mayday Anthem Edge Of Motion - Set Up 707 Cybersonik - Trash Precious X Project - Dukkha Levitation - Loudness Sick 'N' Twisted - Poing.... Yemama Rotterdam Termination Source - Poing (Jump A Little Higher) Gladiators & Slaves - Speed City Levitation - Outro This is a wicked tracklist. A true House lover will get a hard-one from this tracklist. Yes, of course the mix contains the big dancefloor anthems, and maybe some are not really that exciting anymore due to radio overkill, but they are still part of our raving culture, and we should embrace them for what they have achieved. Some of these tracks, boy, I have not heard in years! And a few for good reasons. I completely forgot about 'Poing', and even 'Dildo'. Not really great anthems, but I'm guessing they will be appreciated by me once I had a few beverages down my throat, and with me also being in a club, that would make it more authentic. I wish I was old enough in 1992 to rave. I wish I could hear these tunes coming through the speakers towards me. Put my head in the bass bins, and absorb the movement that we call Rave. Bass-D's mix is tight. Oh sorry, I meant Eugenio's mix. You could see that he was going to be a great mega mixer. The mix was only 35 minutes long, but he crammed 27 records in, including an intro and an outro. And make it all sound flawlessly. It would be cool if he could communicate with his younger self, to tell him what lies ahead. A bright future, with many raves and many places to see. A fantastic mix. Worth checking out! Not without small errors, but still a fantastic mix. And it's got 'Stronger Than Steel'. Fucking wicked anthem! DJ: Eugenio (a.k.a. - Happy Hardcore: The Megamix - Mixed By DJ Casketkrusher (2012)
You all know that I like to dig around to find hidden gems. Most of the times I don't even need to do anything for it: Soundcloud's algorithm already gives me all that I need to hear. But sometimes I don't want AI to tell me what I need to hear (willingly or unwillingly). I decided to go on the hunt myself, and boy, have I found a mix for you! A Happy Hardcore mix, made by Casketkrusher back in 2012, released on Arcade and ID&T! That's a joke, we all know that, but for a split second you were thinking 'did Casketkrusher really do that?'. And to be fair, it would be fitting: he does some amazing stuff in regards to Happy Hardcore. He's one of the few that keeps the sound alive. But no, he hasn't made an album and released it on Arcade and ID&T's joint label venture. Those days are long gone. But you might be wondering where I found this mix? Well, I quickly scanned Soundcloud to see if this existed, and I could be wrong or right in saying that this mix isn't on there. You can only find it when you put your Inspector Gadget hat on, and start digging. And once you do, you find a website that was made by Casketkrusher himself, and I don't think it's been updated since 2013. There are a few mixes on there you also find on his Soundcloud page, but this specific Happy Hardcore one, I did not see. Maybe I'm a tad blind, but surely Casketkrusher must be able to confirm or deny the mix's existence on Soundcloud? Now you might be thinking 'what's so special about this mix?', and it's a good question to ask. One that only a handful of people will understand. Whenever I see the title 'Happy Hardcore' written anywhere, I am always a tad suspicious in regards to the tunes selected. Or they aren't Happy enough, or they are the top 40 shit tunes. Or they aren't Happy Hardcore at all, but for a strange reason get this label attached to it. But I do never find the perfect mix containing the tracks I consider Happy Hardcore, until today. To me the Happy Hardcore collection released on Arcade and ID&T joint venture label, has always been my go-to collection, if I'm feeling peckish, and want some Happy Hardcore. I know I might be a tad biased in regards to Casketkrusher's mix, but I simply can't let this mix go by, and not tell you about it. He has, and I do thank him for it, used records that I simply adore. He has, and this is a personal opinion, made a perfect Happy Hardcore mix. So here is the tracklist. You will see what I mean when I talk about Happy Hardcore: this is what I consider Happy and good enough for me! Megamix: Intro Citrus - Fascination (DJ Weirdo Remix) The Beatsquad - Listen To The Rhythm! DJ E-Rick & Tactic - Wanna Dance? Bass-D & King Matthew - Take Me Higher (DJ Gizmo Remix) Bass-X - Hardcore Disco (Album Mix) Lords Of The Underworld - Making Moves DJ Seduction & Eruption - Bust The New Jam! Lords Of The Underworld - For The People Cixx - Ride To The Rhythm The Beatsquad - The Beat Goes On! Happy Tunes - Positive Energy The Beatfreaks - Miles Of Smiles DJ Waxweazle & DJ Delirium feat Guitar Rob - Dreams Of Heaven DJ Ham, Demo & Justin Time - Here I Am Billy 'Daniel' Bunter & J.D.S. - Let It Lift You (DJ Vibes & Wishdokta Remix) Creasemaster & Slamdog - Bump The Bass Lexus Lovers - Beat To The Bass Billy 'Daniel' Bunter & D-Zyne - Ride Like The Wind D'ohm feat Tofke & Insider - Mushrooms The Scotchman - Happy Vibes The Beatsquad - Uptempo Beatz DJ Delirium - Rock Your Body Full Option - Rave All Night DJ Paul Elstak - Life Is Like A Dance Active Forze - Head Like A Pacman The Prophet & DJ Delirium - The Way You Make Me Feel Carlos Masserati - Get On The Move (Happy Mix) Phaze 2 Phaze meets The Doctor - Tales From The Crypt DJ E-Rick & Tactic - Hysterical Drumbeats (Original Mix) DJ Paul Elstak - Pump The Party DJ Delirium - Be Happy Phase - Morning Light The Party Animals - Have You Ever Been Mellow DJ Dougal & Eruption - Party Time DJ Attic & Stylzz - Fiesta Del Meerty Highlander - Hold Me Now (Bass-D & King Matthew Remix) Ultimate Seduction - Forever Together Solid Base - Prison Wall The Prophet - I Can't Stand It The Night Raver & The Magician - I'm Here Once Again DJ Rob & Tim B - You And Me (Happy Mix) Gab - You Better Watch Yourself (Doom Of Dance Mix) Megamix: Outro I would say that I do find this mix particularly sexy, but I cannot say that in 2020. The world has changed, and so have mankind. But I do find the records selected by Casketkrusher really endearing. I do get warm feelings inside when I see a mix that contains classic Happy Hardcore classics. This, ladies and gentlemen, is proper Happy Hardcore. Be educated by this mix. Some of these anthems I even forgot about! Some I also genuinely tried to forget about, seeing as I'm over the hype surrounding them, but in general this mix still rocks, and it rocks HARD. It's nice to see a mix that contains these legendary anthems. The tracks are excellent (only a handful are a bit 'meh'), the mixing is also OK. Not perfect, it still contains a few errors, some small, but some quite big. It's still a great listening experience for those that love Happy Hardcore, and those that aren't aware of what it truly is, and want to investigate it. It was difficult to only pick one record, and even thought it wasn't played at it's full potential, but Gab's 'You Better Watch Yourself' is still an all-time Happy Hardcore classic. A mix worth checking out. Is this Casketkrusher's finest mix? Not his finest, but certainly one that needs to be praised a bit more. Maybe he can even do an updated version of this mix? But please, we need more Happy Hardcore like this!!! There's no player available, but maybe Casketkrusher might upload this to his Soundcloud page, and once he does, I'll share the fuck out of it. - Monita - Headz History Mix (1993-2019) (2020)
It's Friday, and it's relaxing time. It has been a relaxing 2 days for me, seeing I had to take up some holiday days, so I thought I'd make it a long weekend. And during the last 2 days one specific mix has been playing over and over: a Metalheadz mix, made by Monita. During my two days off, I can never sit still, and to have Drum and Bass play out loud, it makes life so much better. COVID is already a pain in the arse to many, so to have something playing that makes you happy, and for a few hours takes you out of this misery that is COVID, why not embrace it? The label does not need any introduction. One of the, or even the best Drum and Bass label in the whole world. Certainly one that has left a mark on the scene. A groundbreaking label that has given us many memorable tunes. And whoever made this mix (Monita Skeleton) has done a great job by using a lot of these wicked anthems to compose a 2 hour long mix, with the finest records released from this majestic label. This mix is filled with excellent Drum and Bass anthems, and according to Monita it could have been many more anthems, but 40 was a nice number, and 2 hours is long enough. Well, I wouldn't be disappointed if the mix was 3 hours or even longer, but 2 hours is OK. Not too short, not too long, So which records has Monita used for this Metalheadz dedication mix? Here are the tracks: Grooverider - Sinister (Influence Mix) Rufige Kru - VIP Riders Ghost Goldie - This Is Bad Dillinja - Ja Know Ya Big Photek - The Rain (Remix) Dillinja - Armoured D Ed Rush - Skylab Optical - Shape The Future (VIP) Goldie - Kemistry (Grooverider Remix) Doc Scott - Swarm Spirit - Solitaire Future Cut - Obsession Total Science - Jungle Jungle John B - Up All Night Jonny L - Part Of You Total Science - Ghostlife Special Forces - Satisfy Kryptic Minds & Leon Switch - Prejudice & Politics Rufige Kru - Letting Go (VIP) Commix - Be True Break - Headz Up Rufige Kru - Lost Rufige Commix - Double Double D Bridge - Cornered Rufige Kru - Vanilla (VIP) Marcus Intalex - Hell 2 Pay Dom & Roland - Outta Endz Jubei - Ruffige 11 Friske - Covert Om Unit - Timelines Mako - The Narrator Nucleus & Paradox - Blade 9 Total Science - All Massive John B - Lava Nucleus & Paradox - 12 Bits (Mako's Breakout Mix) One Mind - Pull Up Seba - Node 46 Kid Drama - Moments In Lust Amit - Naked Fuse Seba & Paradox - Hexagon It is nice to see a mix that builds up. And by that I mean, it starts with music from 1993, and it runs all the way to 2019. And I have to say that, even though I more focussed on the early Metalheadz sound, I do like the new sound and the new names I've not heard of before. Yes, the older generation might have set this label and its sound up, but the young lads and lasses are continuing the sound and the label's legacy. Normally I would have a rant about everything that's wrong with a mix, but today I cannot find a single flaw at all. Monita has done a great job with this mix: the flow is continuous and at no point during this mix do you feel that the music is changing rapidly. The flow is good, and you don't even realised that the one record you were focussed on has now stopped playing about 29 minutes ago. The music just comes at you at this incredible pace. The tunes are excellent, and the mix itself is gorgeous. I've got no negative feedback, only love for this wicked mix. I highly recommend this one to everyone who loves Drum and Bass, and who knows and adores Metalheadz. And it's also a free download, so what else do you need? Best track? Photek's 'The Rain'. Timeless classic. - The Greazy Show: Episode 1 (2020)
The whole world might be standing still, and some areas have gone back into a second lockdown, but whenever you can, enjoy yourself as much as possible. If this means that you do something interesting, for example take on a hobby, why not? Create a nice painting, knit a beautiful sweater, or do something completely cool. Or just sit back, make sure you put pennies in the internet machine, and browse the world wide web for whatever floats your boat. And at the moment it's the GPF boat that's rocking. Well, not really rocking though. If GPF was a boat, it was moving at a fucking idiotic pace. One second the boat goes at 10 knots, the next it's doing 500 miles per hour. Whatever you decide to do during these uncertain times, stay safe, and enjoy life as much as possible. Have a laugh here and there, and don't take things seriously. When you are struggling like myself, and you are on medication to keep you on track, laughing can be a fantastic cure. And GPF, as fucking idiotic as they might be, they do make me laugh. And yes, don't get me wrong, it can be atrocious as hell (you will encounter certain moments during this mix which make you question the reason why mankind still exists), but there's an element within GPF that brings a smile on my face. And they do grow in numbers: the GPF fanbase slowly grows.... But as 'good' and funny their music might be, they do need to 'promote' themselves. So they have gone all out with this newly weekly show on Twitch. The first livestream happened last week, And they have already reached 25k plays. That's amazing, but there's this mysterious glow surrounding GPF that makes them highly addictive. And we have to give credit to the fantastic marketing team behind GPF. As much as you disagree with them and their music, their marketing and social media team are extremely good in making GPF a very interesting brand to follow. Now let's talk about blowjobs and greased up ass holes. Or the tracklist? What do you think I would prefer? Justin Bieber - Baby (Greazy Puzzy Fuckerz Remix) w/ Greazy Puzzy Fuckerz - Harmony Of Fuck Greazy Puzzy Fuckerz & Russian Village Boys - ID Wildstylez - Heartbeat (Greazy Puzzy Fuckerz Remix) Caine - Hypebeast Russian Village Boys & Skurt - Forever Drunk Greazy Puzzy Fuckerz & D-Fence - Virgin ID - ID Riot Shift - Machinery Greazy Puzzy Fuckerz feat MC Jeff - Cummin On Ur Face Angerfist & Mike Redman - Reprogrammer Da Tweekaz feat David Spekter - Circle Of Life (Greazy Puzzy Fuckerz Remix) Partyraiser & Repix - Ode To The Godfather w/ Greazy Puzzy Fuckerz & Malice - All Wanna Fuck (Piep Edit) Greazy Puzzy Fuckerz feat MC Jeff - Who's Your Daddy N-Vitral - Start A Riot Jebroer - Gaan Met Die Banaan (Greazy Puzzy Fuckerz & Mizz Behave Remix) Warface - Blow The Speakers Miss Enemy & Mizz Behave - ID Da Tweekaz & Code Black - Shake Ya Shimmy (Greazy Puzzy Fuckerz Remix) Killshot - Beastmode (Greazy Puzzy Fuckerz Remix) Greazy Puzzy Fuckerz - Stripper Greazy Puzzy Fuckerz & Riot Shift - Brocolli Fuck Riot Shift & Hatred - The Desolate One Unicorn On Keta - Keta On Unicorn Mizz Behave & The Freaky Bastard - LOCA Greazy Puzzy Fuckerz - Fuck Me Daddy Greazy Puzzy Fuckerz, Caine & Mizz Behave - Greazed Up Greazy Puzzy Fuckerz & Mind Compressor - Spaghetti Love (Mizz Behave Remix) Dead Or Alive - You Spin Me Round (Greazy Puzzy Fuckerz Remix) Greazy Puzzy Fuckerz & Mizz Behave - ID Greazy Puzzy Fuckerz - Dragonporn v69 Mandy - Ragga Drop (Greazy Puzzy Fuckerz Remix) Wasted Penguinz - Still Here Well, if you weren't ready for the madness, you will certainly hate this mix. Or love it. I couldn't care, really. I sometimes need to be a bit selfish, and not care about others. So if you like it or not, I would not loose any sleep over it. But one warning: if you don't like GPF or their music, don't play this out loud just before you go to sleep. Your mind might go 4897946 BPM, and you will have difficulties falling asleep. Consider yourself warned. During this set you also get Mizz Behave appearing here and there. Always a nice contribution to the already mighty GPF sets. But it's the music that speaks. And during this hour long set they played the regular anthems (made by themselves), and a few records by others. Not just GPF all the way though. A few new records, and obviously the next top 40 hit for GPF : the Dragonborn record. I saw the Da Tweekaz livestream and saw them playing this to Headhunterz, and he smiled so awkwardly, it made me laugh even louder. It's all with a pinch of salt. As cool and ridiculous as their music sometimes sounds, they are all about having a good laugh. And sex. A lot of sex. Not a fan of Justin Bieber, and everything with him in it just makes me want to vomit immediately. And I'm not a fan of 'Ragga Drop'. Obviously I am talking about the original versions, the remixes are way better! A few small mixing errors, but nothing major. I had fun. But I always give them 5 out of 5, and this isn't their best set. Still extremely entertaining, but I've heard better ones. Maybe catch them next week on Twitch for more shenanigans? - It's Ya Birthday Mix (2020)
A few weeks ago I discovered a brand new mix by Selectabwoy. It is one that I sadly missed when it was released 5 months ago. It was his girlfriend's birthday, so a belated birthday wish to Caro seems to be in place. And I'm guessing she's also a fan of old skool Hip Hop and Rap. If she isn't, Selectabwoy is fucked. But he wouldn't make that mistake, would he? I wouldn't. I would make other mistakes, but nothing related to my wife's favourite music style. Anyway, happy birthday Caro. It's cool to hear a special mix made for her. The intro is ace, and the next 1 and 10 ish minutes it's just ace too. Not the stupid present day 'Hip Hop' or whatever they call it, but only the finest 'old' Hip Hop and Rap. The music that I grew up with, and really appreciated. Not every track was my cup of tea, but Hip Hop has always been in my life. Even though I was too young to understand the real reasoning behind each song and the meaning of the lyrics. I am probably the whitest person on Earth that listens to Hip Hop music. And another issue that I've got, is the fact that I never listen to lyrics. I do mean never. It's the beat and bass that keeps me going. But for this birthday mix Selectabwoy decided to play the big hitting records, the ones that get the crowd going. The big names are in this mix. Let me just highlight a few names, just a few: Mos Def, Snoop Dogg, The Notorious B.I.G., LL Cool J, NWA, Nas, Lauryn Hill, Ice Cube, Wu-Tang Clan, and the list goes on. Big names, a big mix by Selectabwoy! So here's the tracklist. For the dope people out there, you will love it! Shaggy/50 Cent - Intro DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince - Summertime DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince - Summertime (Reprise) Mary Jane Girls - All Night Long LL Cool J - Around The Way Girl Q-Tip - Let's Ride Parliament - Do That Stuff Nice & Smooth - Funky For You NWA - Express Yourself Naughty By Nature - Hip Hop Hooray A Tribe Called Quest - The Jam Nine - Wutcha Want (Instrumental) The Notorious B.I.G. - Juicy (Acapella) The Notorious B.I.G. - Juicy The Notorious B.I.G. - One More Chance (Hip Hop Mix) The Notorious B.I.G. - Unbelievable Photek - Into The 90s Lauryn Hill - Lost Ones (Acapella) Large Professor - I Just Wanna Chill (Instrumental) Large Professor - I Just Wanna Chill Pete Rock feat Large Professor - The Rap World Keni Burke - Keep Rising To The Top O.C. - Born To Live Numskullz - G.O.D. Lauryn Hill - I Used To Love Him The Pharcyde - Drop Junior Mafia - Get Money (Instrumental) Wu-Tang Clan - C.R.E.A.M. (Acapella) Ice Cube - You Know How We Do It Leo Haywood - I Wanna Do Something Freaky To You Snoop & Dre - Nuthin' But A G Thang Mos Def - Universal Magnetic Mos Def - Ms. Fat Booty Snoop Doggy Dogg - Doggy Dogg World Interlude Ahmad Jamal - I Love Music Nas - N.Y. State Of Mind Peanut Butter Wolf feat Rasco & Q-Bert - Run The Line Handsome Boy Modelling School feat Roisin Murphy & J-Live - The Truth If you were about to listen to this mix and were thinking 'I've got kids around me, this is probably not family friendly', don't you worry: Selectabwoy have got you covered! The odd 'ass' might appear here and there, but that's not really offensive, true? I am a fan of Hip Hop, but not the present day stuff. Only the old day stuff, the one that Selectabwoy used for this mix. Yes, he might have used a few 'top 40 hits', but the majority of anthems are the darker stuff I like. Especially the Biggie stuff. When I was younger I never appreciated him as much as I do nowadays. But you are never too old to appreciate stuff, eh? Selectabwoy made it a very interesting and very diverse mix. From the dark to the light, from the classic Hip Hop to the Jazzy type of music. And this was exactly what I needed to hear today. At the moment this mix might be a tad under appreciated, but we will get this one high up in the air. It's yet another wicked mix by Selectabwoy, and the records selected are really hard hitters. The best one? 'The Truth'. I just love Roisin Murphy's voice. So soothening. I can only give credit to this mix, and mention the fact that it has made me very happy. And chilled! Oh, and again HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Caro. Hope this mix was the one you listened to when it was your birthday! - Trance Session Vol.1 (01.10.2014)
It's that time of the week again, time for another mix. Hopefully this one you will like. Not always do people appreciate the music I share, and sometimes it does result in negative comments, but thankfully that doesn't happen that often. And come on, be honest, who hates Trance music? Obviously the harder style DJs don't like Trance music (mainly the Terror DJs), but besides that, who could actually hate Trance? If you do, make sure you leave this page right now, the following review is all about Trance music. Don't say I haven't warned you, eh? Anyway, the mix that I've got for you all today, is a mix made by Audioholik a few years ago. Now you might recognise the name. And if you do, you are a regular to this page. He made the brilliant Scot Project dedication mix. And the mix I've got in front of me, well, you can say it's an Arty dedication mix, or appreciation mix. I don't know much about Arty, but have seen his name every so often in mixes here and there. And for me it's sometimes hit and miss. You'll understand later. I did a bit of a Google research, and found out that he's a Russian producer, who has worked with big names in the scene. And I'm talking about Arty, not Audioholik. That's the only thing I have found, and after reading 2 lines I got bored, I went straight back into the music. It's not just an Arty mix, but there are a LOT of his tracks in this mix. An hour and 13 minutes of Trance music on an already dreary and miserable Wednesday, who doesn't want to hear that? Arty, Matisse & Sadko - Riot Porter Robinson - Lionhearted (Arty Remix) Arty feat Angel Taylor - Up All Night Above & Beyond vs Arty - You Got To Believe Arty - Flashback Porter Robinson & Mat Zo - Easy Arty feat Tania Zygar - The Wall (Arty Remode Mix) Tilt - The World Doesn't Know (Arty Remix) Arty - Twilight Tonight (Arty Remode Mix) Arty - Kate Arty feat Fiora - Take Me Away London Grammar - Hey Now (Arty Remix) Arty & Mat Zo - Rebound Markus Schulz feat Seri - Love Rain Down (Remix) Moonbeam feat Avis Vox - Hate Is The Killer (Arty Remix) Porter Robinson - Fellow Feeling Well, I said there were others in this mix, but fuck me; it is definitively an Arty appreciation mix! Shitting hell Audioholik, I am guessing you were a huge fan of him, or am I too suggestive? I have to say that with certain records Arty makes really groovy and Trancy anthems, but sometimes the records are just too pop-ish for my liking. And that kind of Trance isn't my kind of Trance. No worries, if that's yours, I respect you. At least you are enjoying it. But I am a rather conventional music lover, and mainstage stuff has left my passion a few years ago. Give me the darker and edgier and more underground music, and I'm happy as Larry. Anyway, that doesn't mean that he only makes cheesy anthems. On the contraire! Three records in this mix are absolute beasts! 'Kate', 'Rebound', and the biggest hit in this mix 'The World Doesn't Know'. I think that 'Rebound' was actually my first introduction into Arty's world. I heard it in a Sied van Riel mix a few years ago, and it kind of stuck to me. That's the kind of Trance I can tolerate. But come on, name one track in this mix better than 'The World Doesn't Know'? Quallity of the mix is good. As good as I would expect it to be from Audioholik. A good mix by Audioholik. Not every track was pleasing to me, but at least it got me through the day. Make sure you like this DJ on Soundcloud. He's got a lot of excellent mixes on his page. - Mauro Picotto Live @ Innercity 2001
I am terribly sorry, but I do not care. I know I only wrote a review a couple of days ago, of a Mauro Picotto set, but since that moment I have been hooked on the early 2000 sound that he (and others) made. And back in 2001 he played at this event called Innercity, and sadly this is an event that most of us don't even remember anymore. This was a cool concept at the time, but for multiple reasons it wasn't profitable enough to sustain a good future, so it died. Thankfully you and me, we've got the memories. I am not sure if I actually went to this event. I know I've been to a few Innercity's, but if 2001 was also on the list, I can't remember. I think I went there. Stupid intoxicated Dutchman, you should remember things. Anyway, I had to quickly Google the line up, and it was a good looking one: Anthony Pappa, Benjamin Bates, James Holden, Lucien Foort, Per, Denis, Junior Sanchez, Marnix, Smokin' Jo, Yousef, Benny Rodrigues, Marco V, Sven Vath, X-Press 2, Asenal, At Jazz, Ernest Bonzet, Jef K, Kareem, Monte la Rue, Chris Liebling, Dave Clarke, Sir Jamez, T-Quest, Terence Fixmer, EZ, Femme Fatale, Gomes, Groovemaster Johnson, Joost van Bellen, and of course, Mauro Picotto. How's that for a diverse line-up? The event was held at the Amsterdam Rai, and the maximum capacity was 45.000 people. And for only 50 guilders you had a brilliant night out. The reviews on Partyflock aren't that great: the event gets an OK rating. And the CD that followed was also 'OK'. Not the best CD of Innercity's back catalogue, but the coolest thing was the fact that this was a hybrid CD. Literally one side would have the CD (which obviously had the music on it), and the other side would be a DVD with video of the event. It got ruined by my CD player quickly: it didn't like this thick CD crossover. Anyway, the event. Mauro Picotto. A legend. He does not need any introduction. And once you have been captured by this Millennium sound, you are hooked. You don't believe me? Just check my recently played songs on Soundcloud: they are ALL Mauro Picotto tracks! And hearing these excellent tunes makes me want to purchase a 'Best Of' CD. I need MORE Mauro Picotto. But for now, let's just enjoy this live recording. I might have done, but never really paid attention. What I can say, is that I think I have found my all time favourite DJ. It is difficult, seeing as I never know who to vote for, but Mauro is just superb! I've not come across a set which disappointed me. Yes, most of the sets which were recorded around the Millennium contain a few reoccurring anthems, but I couldn't care less. Fuck it, I will say it: the sounds created around the Millennium were much better! Techno is great, no doubt about that, but give me that Millennium sound, any given day I would choose that over anything else. And it's a shame that you don't hear it that often. So it's a nice and warm welcome to hear this set today, on this boring and shitty Monday. I can tell you that this is one of the best sets I've ever heard. Yes, it might contain a few small mixing errors, but remember: these were the days when DJs had to mix, using a turntable or two or more and a mixer. And as good as they tried to make it, errors do occur. But nothing major though. So many epic anthems in here, and I'm not going to be picking a Mauro Picotto track. That would be too obvious. 'Pulsar' was and still is a dancefloor destroyer. But in this instance I will pick 'Krekc' by Speedy J, and 'Perpetue' by Livio Tracks as my two favourite records of Mauro's set. 'Krekc' being the superb one, closely followed by 'Perpetue'. Only love and appreciation for this set, and for the DJ, and the lost concept by ID&T. God, I miss the golden years of Dance music. - Mauro Picotto Live @ Trance Energy - 17-02-2001
Have I ever been to Trance Energy? I reckon I have, but can't recollect the night. I've been a lot of times drunk, and especially around the end of the 90s and beginning of the 2000s I was raving everywhere, and in the back of my mind I have been to a Trance Energy event, but can't remember a single thing. Was it that good, or was I too damn wasted? Whatever it was, it's still an event that holds memories: it was during the heydays of Trance music. For me the early 2000s were the best, music wise. And whenever you talk about Trance Energy, it's always with fond memories. The other day I was listening to several Innercity sets (another wicked event by ID&T), and something inside of me triggered a feeling. I needed to hear something Trance related. And quickly I landed on Soundcloud, and found a set by a pioneer, Mauro Picotto! He's one of my favourite Italian producers and DJs of all-time. And if you were old enough when he ruled the world during the early 2000s, you know exactly what I'm talking about. According to the female announcer, it's Mauro Popocino? Cringe-worthy moment, how can you mess up the introduction of such a big name? The male announcer does Mauro justice, but the 'Popocino' introduction just makes me want to vomit. But Mauro does not sit still: he dives straight into the music. And so shall we. Because Mauro, the legend, does not need an introduction! The set contains the BEST records released during the Millennium years. He was on top of things, and with several hits in the top charts all over Europe, he was the king. And his music has not aged at all. It's still dark, edgy, uplifting , and bascially everything you needed when you wanted to hear good music. He's a wizard. Picotto or Popocino, whoever was behind the decks at Trance Energy, he did a magestic thing! 01. Joy Kitikonti - Agrimonyzer 02. Mauro Picotto - Baguette (Original Mix) 03. Mario Piu - Mathmos 04. Mauro Picotto - Like This Like That (Tea Mix) 05. Mauro Picotto - Like This Like That (Megavoices Mix) 06. Saccoman - The Recall (Picotto Answer Mix) 07. John Thomas - Undisputed Life (Technasia Mix 2) 08. Megamind - Taub? (Picotto Mix) 09. Adam Beyer - Drumcode 2 (Marco Carola Mix) 10. Sonus Terrarum - Sacrifice (Secundus Mix) 11. L-X-Carbo - Dance Of The Crazy (Blue Pill Mix) 12. Thomas Krone - Shockabuku (Vol. 1) (B-Side) 13. Mauro Picotto - Verdi 14. Mario Piu a.k.a. DJ Arabesque - The Vision (Vision 1 Mix) 15. Mauro Picotto - Lounge/Pegasus Intro 16. Mauro Picotto - Komodo/Save A Soul (Picotto's Private) 17. Mauro Picotto - Pulsar 18. Joy Kittikonti - Energizer (Psico Mix) 19. Joman - Raggattack (Attack Mix) 20. Mauro Picotto - Freetown 21. Mauro Picotto - Like This Like That (3AM Mix) 22. Mauro Picotto - Promixus (Megavoices Claxxix Mix) If this is Heaven, I'm a happy man. I'm a huge music lover, but this music style is so damn good, I would trade anything in the world to hear this kind of music again. Especially how it sounded back in 2000s. And mixed obviously by the finest DJs in the world. Vinyl baby, all the way. I'm a fan of Mauro. Don't know why I'm not sure what he's currently doing, music wise, but when he ruled the world I adored him. Bought every single ever, and listened to everything mixed by him (livesets or you name it). Every compilation I bought had records by him on it, and it made me a happier person. Why does the music need to change drastically, constantly? Why not be happy with the sound and keep it alive for as long as possible? I've not heard anything similar being released in the 10s. This is the Millennium sound. The dark and edgy Mauro is what tickled me the most. 'Verdi', fucking hell, how he made this track is just beyond belief! So dark, this tore Techno a new hole! Not only have I listened to his set, but also visited his Soundcloud page, and found records he made around 2000s, and the smile it created could be seen from the moon and beyond. This might have been a bit rougher than your usual Trance, but so highly enjoyable. It brought the best of both worlds together: heavenly music and ground stomping beats and basses. Mauro is a legend, and this set just shows how good he was at Trance Energy. Still not sure if this was the event I was at, but hey, it does give me goosebumps hearing it on Soundcloud. Mauro is the underrated king of Hard Trance. Name one that can beat him? - ID&T 96
The year is 1996. Hardcore growing so rapidly, it's seen as an unstoppable force. Hardcore is everywhere you look. With its growth, the market is filled with all kinds of compilations. From very good to very bad. And many of us spent a few bucks in shops like the Free Records Shop, van Leest, or other kiosks which you could find all over the country. But for the underground stuff I always went to Satisfaction records in Heerlen, the place to be for the obscure and rough stuff. The compilations that would not be sold in the general stores due to them being too 'out of place'. I don't actually know if I purchased this CD back in 1996. I honestly don't think so. What I can remember is that I found this CD on a shelf somewhere for half the price. And me being a cheapskate, I took the offer, and bought it. I think I bought the 96 version before I even purchased the 1995 edition. I could be completely wrong, and that is often the case. Not sure what the exact reason was behind this compilation. Probably a showcase of what awesome tunes were released during this magical year. The focus was on the best of both worlds: Happy Hardcore and of course Hardcore/Gabber. 1996 was a truly astonishing year for Hardcore in general, and with this 1 CD ID&T tried to showcase the best of the best. Have they delivered an album that resembles the year 1996, and have they done it well? The tracklist is one you might need to look at, and it will make you understand my point of view on this album: Rob Gee - Ecstasy, You Got What I Need DJ Delirium & Buzz Fuzz - Immortality Critical Mass - Believe In The Future (DJ Weirdo & DJ Sim Future Mix) Miss Groovy - Jungle Sickness 50% Of The Dreamteam - Fatal Morgana DJ Weirdo & DJ Phil Omanski - Young Birds (Original Mix) The Prophet - I Like It Loud (Hardcore Mix) DJ Delirium & Guitar Rob - The Way That We Rocked It (Live In NYC Shortcut) Naughty Boys - 1 2 3 Fuck! Pulp Shock - Far Away (DJ Sim's Hardcore Remix) Masoko Solo - Pessa Pessa (DJ Cerla Rave Mix) 3 Steps Ahead - Drop It (Original Mix) DJ Sim - Cartoons In Progress (Original Mix) Pino D'Ambini - Up & Down Ballz (Buzzy Goes BZRK Mix) Buzz Fuzz - Frequencies (Buzzy Goes BZRK Mix) Lords Of The Underworld - Is Everybody Ready (Power Mix) By looking at the tracklist it makes me wonder, what ever happened to the majority of these artists? Like Lords Of The Underworld, DJ Sim, Miss Groovy, etc. Some had great success within the scene, and all of a sudden disappeared. Sadly we are all aware of 3 Steps Ahead (RIP), but the others are just gone. Time flies by too damn quickly. Was this compilation a good one? Was the selection a justified one? Were these the best anthems from 1996? Yes, and no. Some are really memorable anthems, and they have multiple reasons why they are on this compilation. And some are just, well, meh. I wouldn't put them personally on this compilation, but they did it anyway. Some are really great, like 'Is Everybody Ready', 'Frequencies', 'Young Birds', and it does get me going. I immediately go back into time, and feel young again. They were literally on every compilation available, and featured in many livesets. Valid reasons to have them on this CD. But some I do question the reason why, because they are OK-ish, but not worthy enough to be remembered. Like 'Fatal Morgana', '1 2 3 Fuck!'. and sadly the Rob Gee anthem. I don't know if I should like or loath this record. I've got this love and hate relationship with it: on one hand I grew up with it, and I actually had the single and found it amazing at the time, but years later I find it too damn cheesy, and out of time. The compilation was OK-ish. Not a great one. Not better than the 1995 version. Did they ever do a 1997 or 1998 version? If they have, I might need to spend a few more pennies to complete my collection. Anyway, thanks for a channel on Youtube for featuring this CD. Check out the channel for more Hardcore CDs, but for now enjoy this 1996 CD by ID&T. OK, not great. - Teka B - Carnaval & 90's Hardstyle - Tekstyle Mix (100% PARTY MUSIC) (2020)
You know, sometimes you stumble across something you weren't even expecting. Today was such a day. I found this mix you might appreciate, if you are into quirky music. And when I say quirky, I do mean it. Have you ever been to the Netherlands? Have you ever been South of the rivers? Do you even know what that means? Have you ever experienced Carnaval before? If you haven't, well, 2021 won't have Carnaval, but certainly 2022 will, and if you can, make sure you start saving up money and book a hotel somewhere South, so preferably Limburg or Brabant. It is a few days of drinking and having fun. And the worst and cheesiest music ever. Want a taster? This is the mix for you. It might sound a tad like a Freestyle mix, but it isn't. Carnaval is something only Southerners understand. But if the virus has bit you, and you have got deep pockets and love to dress quirky, you need to experience Carnaval, and literally not give a flying fuck about the music. As long as you are having fun. It's partying til the break of dawn. And the next day? We do it all over again! So this mix, eh? It's made by Teka B. Never heard of Teka B, if I'm brutally honest. But their mix has sparked my interest, and it has made me miss my home province, Limburg. People in Limburg haven't got much to look out for, Carnaval is a major thing. And I've not experienced it for a few years now, so to hear this mix made me a tad happy, and made me feel young again. Expect madness. Fucking madness. And don't take this too serious, ladies and gentlemen: take a pinch of salt. Rednex - Cotton Eye Joe (Dr. Rude's Carnaval Tool) Tom Waes - Dos Cervezas(Teka B & Forenzik Remix) Tony Junior & Billy The Kit - Hey Jude Alex Ostyn - Bass Shaker Dany BPM - Crazy Fiesta Teka B & Genetikzz - Rhythm Dancer Rene Karst - Atje Voor De Sfeer G-Fresh - Ultimate 90's En Zero's Freestyle Megamix Guus Meeuwis - Het Is Een Nacht (Dr. Rude Remix 2016) Teka B - Teka Baby vs Les Lacs Alvaro Soler - Sofia (Mark With A K Remix) Partyfriex feat Schorre Chef - Ik Moet Zuipen (Teka B Remix) Lamme Frans - Zo Dronken (Dr. Rude Remix) Public Domain - Operation Blade (Lunaticz Bootleg) Mark With A K - Flyin High Marco Borsato & Armin van Buuren - Hoe Het Danst (Feest DJ Eric Bootleg) Wes - Alane (Daani & Billy The Kit Bootleg) Don Omar & Lucenzo - Danza Kuduro (Mark With A K Remix) RDC - No Stereo Limit Poogie Bear - Happy Together (Shadowfact Bootleg) Scooter - How Much Is The Fish w/ Djona Projects - This Is Who I Am (Teka B Mash Up) Basshunter - Boten Anna (Ziggy & Pitboy x Altijd Larstig & Rob Gasd'rop Remix) Teka B & Dave D - Wonderwall LNY TNZ & Dany BPM - The Hardest Riddle G-Fresh - Ecuador G-Fresh - Rhythm Of The Night Gebroeders Ko - Schatje Mag Ik Je Foto (The Underdogs Bootlegs) Dany BPM - Seven Nation Army Remix Dutch Movement & Feest DJ Ruud - Turn The Tide Jebroer, Stepherd, Skinto & Jayh - Banaan (Ruthless Remix) Plastic Bertrand - Ca Plane Pour Moi (Alberto V vs Ron-S Remix) G-Fresh - Tropical Freestyle Mega Conga Mash Up (Lollipop Carnavals Edition) Toxic Waste - Get A Life Vitulles & Nowaxx - Follow Bon Jovi (PLN-B's 2018 DJ Tool) G-Fresh - No Sleep For Ed Sheeran (Shape Of You & No Sleep Bootleg) Akyra - Blue MRNZ - Rock You Bust Squad Bootleg Mark With A K - Rainbow In The Sky Mauro Picotto - Komodo (Zatox Hardstyle Remix) Citizen - 1980 Mark With A K vs Oasis - Something More (Invictus Mash-up) R3hab - Around The World (G-Fresh Remix) DJ Dirty K - The Final Countdown Snelle - Reunie (Outsiders Remix) Didn't I tell you this was quirky? It certainly is, and it has made me extremely happy. COVID has fucked everyone up, and with this Carnaval vs Tekstyle mix, it has certainly put a tremendous smile on my gob. A smile that you can see from miles away. And I am bouncing up and down in my living room. What a fantastic cheese fest! I would literally listen to this throughout the year. During Carnaval, and whenever. This just makes you happy as hell. As bad as it might be. It's not the greatest music, it won't appear in the top 100 of best records ever made, but come on, this is true party music. With a few beers down your throat you will certainly enjoy it more. I don't know how people in Limburg and Brabant celebrate Carnaval nowadays, I haven't been in the Netherlands during the Carnaval period for a few years now, but I'm guessing the main thing doesn't change: partying until you are literally out of it. And with Teka B's mix you will certainly feel the atmosphere coming through your speakers. As cheesy as this mix might be, and with a few 'small ' errors, I still highly enjoyed it. Some records are just so bad, or so plainly worst than the original, but I don't know. I am kind of unbiased when it comes to this kind of music. Is it because I am a Limburger? Who knows. But I still dig this kind of quirkiness. More of this please. Best record? Too many to mention. I am too wasted to actually make sense. So I'll end this review now, and you should start listening! - Mauro Picotto Live @ Qlimax 2001
As you all know, I am a huge fan of Mauro Picotto. The sets he had around the beginning of the Millennium are still one of the greatest of all time. Many events I have checked out, and all of them state that his sets were the highlight of the evening. Mauro always brings the fire, and today I found a set, 19 years old, but still strong enough to get you dancing. A set recorded at Qlimax back in 2001. And back then the tickets were more 'acceptable', wouldn't you agree? 15 Dutch Guilders, which is roughly 6.81 Euros! How's that for an entry fee? And the party didn't stop at the entrance. Two areas, with the following names playing: Dana, Gary D, Jon The Dentist, Kai Tracid, Lisa Loud, MC Ruffian, Acid Junkies, Alpha2, Bas & Ram, Marco V, and Michel de Hey. And of course, the legend from Italy: Mauro Picotto. Can't believe that it was only 15 Guilders. Unbelievable. You can't even get a drink for that value. But hey ho, things have changed, and the Guilders are in the past. Also Qlimax's diversity. This specific event had DJs playing Hardcore, Hardstyle, Trance, Hard Trance, Hard House, Techno, and more. Not bound to 'one' style or genre. Qlimax had literally everything for the ravers. Can you now see why I liked the early events so much? Not the early early ones, but the ones around the Millennium. So diverse, and so fresh. For 100 Guilders you would be hammered, and go home with a t-shirt, or whatever floats your boat. And you still had tokens left in your pocket! The good old days. Sometimes I do miss those days. Especially now, when I am sitting at home, browsing the world wide web for excellent content. And today's set is one I couldn't ignore. Mauro Picotto is a fucking legend. Or as the MC mentions, Mario Picotto (pfff, when will MCs learn to just stay silent). Anyway, let us indulge ourselves into the Millennium sound of Mauro Picotto, and see what kind of records were used during this memorable set. Mauro Picotto - Luna Simon Foy - Insideout (Simon Foy Mix) Gabry Fasano - Catapulta Russian Roulette - Hammer Me Hard Axel - Drumfiles 1.0 Marco Bailey - The Green Hornet (The Advent Remix) Chris Liebling - Next Try EP Mauro Picotto - Baguette DJ Elite - That Fuct Camera Mauro Picotto - Hong Kong Ben Sims - Manipulated (Adam Beyer Remix) Mauro Picotto - Bangkok Mario Piu - Mathmos Athos - Infect John Thomas - Undisputed Life (Technasia Remix 2) Gaetano Parisio - Pain 23 (Side A1) Mark Broom - J 2000 Relic - No Silence EP Gabry Fasano - Ringmo Chris McCormack - There Are Better Ways Headroom - Hunt Mauro Picotto - Verdi Joy Kitikonti - Joyenergizer (Psico Mix) You don't know if you miss something if you aren't reminded of it. And today I was reminded that I miss this specific Techno sound a FUCKING lot! This is a sound you don't hear anymore, or maybe not that often. I remember specifically that I went to raves, and heard these tunes coming at me through the massive speakers in front of the stage. I couldn't care less about the world, or how many Watts the speakers were: as long as my chest was rhythmically moving along to the beat. I wish I was at this event. This year was tremendous for me, as I went to a shit ton of events. I missed this event, and I am gutted. Or shall I say, I miss the fact that I did not hear the master play a set as fucking epic as this one. He has done a few epic sets that I can remember, but this one is in the top three Mauro Picotto sets. Another one was recorded at Mysteryland, and I downloaded it using Limewire. Sorry Mauro. But to consolidate, my computer did crash because of a Trojan horse. Illegal downloading was and still is bad. Anyway, let's talk about this epic set. Nothing to complain about. Well, maybe about the MC. Never was, and never will be a fan of MCs. And the MC ruins the set slightly. But thankfully he doesn't speak that much, so that's OK. Seriously, mixing wise and track wise I've got no negative feedback. It's a blinding set, and you should check it out. Not only can you find it on Soundcloud under multiple accounts, but also on Youtube and Mixcloud and more. It's a well sought set, and the reason why might be obvious: an hour and a half of pure orgasms. Best record? The one with the weirdest name: 'Baguette'. Love it! - Kevin Energy - Hardcore Heaven 2 Album Mix 01/11/2005
The year is 2005, and I am a young lad. 15 years ago I was just introduced into this scene, a scene we have not seen or heard before in the Netherlands, called UK Hardcore. With this new musical genre to discover, I bought a lot of albums, to discover what there was in the UK Hardcore scene, and one of the albums I bought, came all the way from Australia (don't ask me why or how). The album in question was Hardcore Heaven 2. The CD compilation was a very successful but a very short lived one. There was another similar called compilation released before the Millennium, but that also was released in a short time scale. This compilation, released by Slammin' Vinyl, was only released in 2005 and 2006, with 4 instalments, and that was it. Not sure why it was terminated, but thankfully the name was taken over by the label Hardcore Underground, and was revived a few years later. But today we take a step back, back to 2005, when Kevin Energy, Brisk, and Sy shared the world what they had to offer, on this second instalment of the already much loved compilation. Out of all the four instalments, this second one was and still is my most favourite one. Especially DJ Brisk's mix, that was spot on. I still wasn't aware of Trancecore and Freeform, and it would take me many years to really appreciate it. But thankfully I am this stage now that I can actually listen to the early stuff and appreciate it. Nu Energy was a very influential label back then, and with Kevin Energy at the helm they dominated the Freeform scene. Kevin Energy released his mix 'for free' on Soundcloud about 5 years ago. And it was a nice re-introduction into this masterful CD. It's only his mix, so sorry for Sy and Brisk fans, but you need to buy the physical CD to get your gram. But at least you will be entertained with a mix by the mighty and unstoppable force Kevin Energy. Here's the tracklist, if you haven't seen it before. In which case I would like to ask you 'why'? Kevin Energy & Doc Savage - Master Blaster Dancelordz - Promises Haze & Gemini - I Want Freedom Dancelordz - Fly Lost Soul - Too Strong (K Complex Remix) Haze - The Darkness Dougal & Gammer - Crack Whore (Kevin Energy Remix) Kevin Energy - Feel The Heat Innerspace - Last Man Standing Kevin Energy - Chemical Terror Double Decka - Transformed Deeper Territory - Deep Space Alek Szahala - Lumi (Kevin Energy Remix) Kevin Energy - Waves Of Desire (Mark Ashley & K Complex Remix) Synaestesia - Desolation (CLSM Remix) Carbon Based - Anger Ball (Kevin Energy Remix) AMS - Check This Mark Ashley & Eryk Orpheus - The Tormentor Deviance - Energize Eryk Orpheus - I'm The Daddy Sharkey & Oli G - Sci-Fi Kevin Energy & Phil Reynolds - Pounding Senses (Sharkey Remix) Kevin Energy & The Ting - Power In The Light K Complex & Desire - Unplugged I simply cannot and won't underline the fact that this CD is 15 years OLD! You simply cannot believe that. Where has the time gone to? Where have all those years gone to, and why has it changed so quickly? I fucking hate time. Time isn't on our side. Well, credit to Kevin Energy for uploading this mix back in 2015, 10 years after its initial release. And it has got good feedback from the listeners. I am one of them, and even thought I might not have appreciated the style as much as I do now, I can still say that in 2020 I love it. Obviously this is a different sound compared to the present day Freeform, but it's still highly enjoyable. Kevin's selection is truly great. Nice Trancy Freeform anthems. And a bit of scratching here and there. But that was mandatory, seeing as the scratchmaster made the first disc on this compilation. He selected great anthems for this mix, and mixed them together beautifully. And this set has stood the test of time, like the music played during this hour and 18 minute long set. No negative feedback or comments. This is a wicked set. Worth checking out, if you haven't already. Or just a wake up call to go through your collection and give these CDs another go. Like we've got anything else to do right now (fucking COVID). Ps. the best record of this mix (for me) was 'Pounding Senses'. Haven't heard this anthem in years! - Radiate - Ode To Offensive Records (Part 1) (2020)
Today I've got a day off, and what do you do? You stay indoors and do nothing. Well, that's what COVID is doing to us. We can't do a lot, but stay indoors, and with a dooming lockdown phase 2, we should get used to stay indoors even longer. There's not a lot of good quality stuff on TV, some good shows on digital platforms, but my focus is mainly Soundcloud and Mixcloud. I am a music whore, a prostitute. I just soak up music like a sponge. I can live without TV or social media, but I couldn't live without music. One of the labels that I grew up with, was Offensive Records. A label run by the Godfather Paul Elstak, known for this specific sound. When Paul started making Happy Hardcore, his name appeared on my 'timeline' back in the 90s, and I started following him. I decided to give his harder side a chance, and I really liked it a lot. Most of his stuff is just pure, straight to the fucking bone, Hardcore. Sometimes a tad silly, and I cannot understand for life nor money this hooligan music business. But hey ho, he has made memorable tunes. DJ Radiate has been on my radar for many years, and even thought I do not come across a lot of his mixes, but when I do, I have to grasp the music and let it dominate my day. And today is no exception. It's a dedication mix to Offensive Records, but mainly DJ Paul. DJ Paul and friends. This is an hour long mix, and you should check this out. Unless you are not interested. The Stunned Guys - Nothing Else Will Stand Paul Elstak vs Adrien - Real Life Hardcore Fundamentalists - Trapped In Darkness DJ Paul Elstak - Rage Paul Elstak vs The Headbanger - Your Mother Sucks Cocks In Hell Paul Elstak - Now's The Fucking Time DJ Paul vs Adrien - Piece Of Shit Paul Elstak - Get Of The Fucking Car Paul Elstak feat The Infamous - Die In Seven Days Paul Elstak - I Had To Kill A Lot Of People Paul Elstak & Firestone feat MC Ruffian - Ready For Judgment Day The Stunned Guys, DJ Paul & MC Ruffian - Bombing Eardrumz Paul Elstak feat Radiate & Beatstream - Angels Deserve To Die Paul Elstak vs Tommyknocker - Danger Danger (Tommyknocker Mix) Paul Elstak - Ik Haat Je (Offensive Mix) DJ Paul presents - Offensive Trillah Paul Elstak & Radiate - Dropping It DJ Paul - ACAB vs Hardcore Hooligans See, I did tell you that, despite this being an 'Offensive Records' mix, it's an all Paul Elstak appreciation mix. But does that bother you? Does that really bother you? It shouldn't, so shut up, and press play. Let the music dominate your Thursday! I did enjoy it. And in a strange way, each and every record had this distinctive sound, so familiar, and you can immediately tell it's a record released by Offensive. The Rotterdam sound is so well known, and some love it, or hate it. But you cannot deny that it's not hard. Some of the records selected by Radiate are really ace, like 'Angels Deserve To Die', 'Bombing Eardrumz','Ik Haat Je', and more. A good selection to show what the label was and still is capable of. And if you are digging the tracklist, you will certainly love the mix. Mixed together OK, nothing negative to mention there. The best record is 'Dropping It'. A nice tribute to the late and great 3 Steps Ahead. Pure dancefloor slammer. But, as mentioned before, 'ACAB vs Hardcore Hooligans', that's certainly not my cup of tea. I just don't get it, this hooliganism in Hardcore. But hey ho, I don't follow football either, I don't have a clue what is offside and what isn't. So I could be talking out of my ass. - DJ Casketkrusher @ Plunderdome (09-21-2013)
I might have completely missed this event, but I've never heard of Plunderdome before?! Can someone please elaborate what this event is? I cannot seem to find anything online. It might have happened 7 years ago, but someone must know. I am guessing that this isn't an event organised by ID&T, right? I know a lot, but Plunderdome, that's a new one for me. And it made me a tad curious when I saw a set by Casketkrusher at this event on Soundcloud. Obviously I had to jump aboard and check out this mix. The reason I stumbled across this mix is because I wanted to hear a set by Casketkrusher he did a few years ago, which is still one of my favourite all time sets. It was his set at Ouwe Stijl Is Botergeil. But I can't do a re-re-review of this set, can I? So I wanted to hear something by him that I haven't heard before. Hence this mix. I know Casketkrusher for his passion and dedication for everything Hardcore related, especially Happy Hardcore, but for this set he decided to play the early Hardcore stuff. The really early stuff. And I'm not sure, but you are still reading this, so you might like the early stuff, or just Casketkrusher. And if you do, why not check out this set? The tracklist is one that I've not seen before. And these records you do not hear that often, which is a pity. We need more of this! Moby - Thousand Asylum - Mescalum The Reanimator - Bigger And Bolder X-Buzz - Overload Sons Of Aliens - Terra.X DJ Gizmo - Kristalized Wavelan - Over Phase Trax-X - Substance Masters Of Torture - Power Of Yoga The Speed Freak - We Shoot To Kill Wendy Milan - Gabberdisco DJ Pagan - Fear Is Born Red Bullfighter - Rapido Infernal (R.R. Remix) Creepozoids - Bring The Noise (Remix #69) Hyperact - Technotrance vs M.C. XXX (GT Sampler Mix) DJ Arjuna - Shoot This Motherfuk! (Original Mix) Matrix Project & Wargroover - Don't Come No Ruffa DJ Fistfuck - Pussy Poison Unknown Artist - Barrier Lock Jaw - 4 Da Underground Juggernaut - Don't Fuck With A Ruffneck Trancehistory - Doo Dey (DJ Dione Remix) The Prophet - Dominatin' Chosen Few - The Break As you would expect, Casketkrusher did dig very deep for these anthems. Some I haven't heard in years, and some I've not even heard at all. Casketkrusher must spend a shit ton on buying these obscure records. But the good side of this, is the fact that he can deliver a wicked set. A bit of everything, and never a dull moment with him. Whatever Plunderdome might have been, it gave Casketkrusher a well deserved stage. With this he delivered yet another wicked set. A bit of the well known and the obscure anthems, and the result is an hour long of truly early stuff. From the Happy Hardcore to proper Gabber. You can find it all in here. I've got no complaints, but truth be told, I never do. Casketkrusher always delivers. So make sure you to check out this set, and basically everything he does. He's a true legend, an underrated DJ. He deserves so much more. Being on stage at Thunderdome would even be a good thing for him. He earned it. Best record? Wavelan with 'Over Phase'. Don't think so? Bite me. - Liquid Drum And Bass Mix # 18 (2020)
I have been off for a week. Had a lot of holiday days left, and have to finish them before the end of the year. But COVID made it slightly impossible to go on a holiday, so me and the wife decided to stay at home, and do basically nothing. Relaxing and chilling, and no reviewing. You know, sometimes you simply cannot be arsed to do anything. Can you even believe it, I've not even played on the PS4? But I did have a wicked week off, but now I am back, back with a vengeance. So today I've got this mix for you, if you are into Liquid Drum and Bass. Or as I would like to call it, Moist DnB, or wet DnB. Not sure who made this mix: it says that it's Mr Miller on the cover, but the Soundcloud channel is owned by Uncle Drew. Whoever made this mix, has made my week. Last week this mix has been on multiple times throughout the day, and has made me even more relaxed than ever before. And maybe that's the main reason why I couldn't be fucked to write a review? I was too damn chilled. I am not a connoisseur of Liquid DnB, but I am a fan. I do like it. It just radiates sweet and calm vibes, doesn't it? I am always highly pleased when I am listening to a Liquid DnB mix. And today's mix ain't no exception. Hopefully you will like it as much as I do/did. Worth checking out, if I'm honest. It's been on my mind for a week, and hopefully it will be on yours for quite some time. Maverick Soul - Clear Blue (Original Mix) Speaker Louis - Ruff Rider (Original Mix) Bungle - Dictate (Original Mix) Blade - King (Original Mix) Jaybee - Hostile Loxy & Resound - Straight 1's Motiv - Ground Work Rowpieces - When It All Started Serum & Voltage - Cyber Funkin' (Original Mix) The Invaderz - Limelight BTK & Presence Known - 40 Channels Of Funk (log1n Remix) Substrate - Throwback (Original Mix) Picota & Kumbh - Funk Memories (Original Mix) Calibre - Rockafella (Original Mix) Creative Wav Recordings - Up N Smoke Netsky - Gravity (Original Mix) Whiney - Black Ice (Original Mix) DJ Rap - I Like This (Rollers Mix) Phase2 - Destruction (Original Mix) Calibre - Bluetop (Original Mix) Dusky - Yoohoo (LTJ. Bukem Remix) Makoto - Eastern Dub (DJ Marky Remix) As I mentioned before, I am not an expert, and only a handful of names are known, but that does not eradicate the coolness factor of this mix. And if you have only returned back to work today after a short period off, you will need something to wind everything back into position, and chill the fuck down. The mix is an hour long, and contains really interesting records. A weird intro flows into an hour of pure and unadulterated Liquid Drum and Bass. And credit for Uncle Drew or Mr Miller, for making me happier. Sertraline has made me a bit happier, but music always makes me happier. It's the equivalent of smoking a joint/spliff: you are relaxed, in your own bubble, enjoying life. And that is bliss. The best record is the last one by Makoto. Close your eyes, and drift away, to a land, far far away! I've got no negative feedback whatsoever. My suggestion would be to check out this mix, and enjoy it as much as I have. And if you have missed me, I am back, bitches! Well, there is one tiny thing that bugged me: the file size: it's 620 MB!!!! Bit too much to be stored on my mobile phone. - KC - 100% Early Reverse Bass Hardstyle Vol.3 (2020)
Some days you just wake up and try to do something, and it eventually doesn't happen. Today was such a day. And yesterday too. I had it all planned, but certain things threw it all down the drain. So here's the belated review of this mix that I've not told you anything about. How rude of me. So let me introduce this mix. It's a mix made by KC. OK, introduction over. And I'm not even kidding. I know nothing about this DJ, but after checking his/her Soundcloud page I do see this reoccurring theme: every 2 years he/she uploads a mix onto Soundcloud, focussed on the early Reverse Bass Hardstyle sound. That's all I could find. So according to statistics the next instalment will be released in 2022. I like that bit of quirkiness. It's random, and it suits me. But besides that, nothing of interest that I can share with you all about KC. So let's dive straight into the mix and the tracklist. It's an hour long and it's got some big ass anthems from the early years. Want to hear more? Press play! Hardstyle Guru - Pumpin' Iron (DJ Stardust Remix) Droid - Rave Train (The KGB's Remix) Traum - Synthetic Shit (Golden Mix) Vector Two - Party People (The KGB's Remix) Droid - Glow (Soul Glo Mix) Psy Man - Push The Hardcore Groove (Sniper Mix) Q Zar - Power Zone (Super Mix) DJ Stardust - Sound Of Vintage (2002 Original Mix) The Raiders - Moonlight (Fullmoon Mix) DJ Gius - Mega What (DJ Stardust Mix) DJ Gius - Scrubs (The KGB's Remix) The Hose - The Pleasure (Dubbona) The Hose - Magma (Paco Ezzemoto Remix) The KGB - Infinity (Original Mix) So this is Reverse Bass Hardstyle, eh? So many different styles, some even hidden under my own eyes! When I was full into Hardstyle during the Millennium years, I was in love with everything related to the style, and to me it was all 'the same'. But I had a soft spot for the Reverse Bass sound. Less climatic moments, more stomping on the floor. No fucking about, just rave music. I have to say that KC's mix has been very interesting. A lot of wicked anthems, and some ok records in there. Not all are as awesome as I can remember them, but nonetheless the tracks are solid, definitely head turners at a rave. It was a cool mix to listen to. There were bigger anthems in the Hardstyle scene during the early years, but KC has picked a few good anthems. And it's also a free download! Check it out! - Cyrax - PSY HARD 2020 Promo Mix
I seriously had to look twice. Twice. Or even three times. Is this Bruce Willis, or Cyrax? But after close inspection it turns out to be the legend Cyrax. So why does he look like Bruce Willis in Die Hard? Well, one thing is for sure, Cyrax is well hard. His personality, you dirty pervert, I don't know if his trouser snake is hard, that's something only he knows. But let's get back to his latest mix. His PSY HARD promo mix of 2020. A short but sweet mix, focussed on the music Cyrax loves, and adores. But is it any good? So why has he made a promo mix? Does he need another introduction? Well, I don't know. I know Cyrax, and a few other do so too. But it would be nice if his name was blasted around the dance scene more often. More stages for him to play on (obviously after COVID), and get more recognition for his tremendous work within the Freeform scene. And if I'm honest, I am always pleased to see a Cyrax mix. Recently he did a mix with records by A.B, and now the focus is on his own skills, and his own productions. A few own productions, or should I say collaborations. He seems to be surgically attached to Transcend, but that's a good thing. Not only can you find a few collabs in here, but also a few records by well known and much loved Freeform legends, like Substanced, Rikki Arkitech, and more. But there's a small side note I have to mention before you get all excited, and it might ruin your Cyrax experience... The mix is only 26 minutes long. And if you wished for a longer mix, I have to disappoint you, but don't you worry, there's plenty of excellent music on Cyrax's page, or on his label's page (Energy Field). But for now, let's focus on this 2020 promo mix. Is it good, or mediocre? Intro - Lube Up Real Nice Metrik - Ex Machina Transcend & Eryk Orpheus - The Darkside Stereotype - I Am Real Transcend & Cyrax - Cortisol Transcend & Cyrax - Unleashed (Substanced Remix) Transcend - Dreamlab SYNTHWULF - Cirrus PeRCePTioN - The Theory Of Everything Sharkey - Product Of Society (Fracus & Darwin Remix) Substanced - Evolution (Douglas Remix) PeRCePTioN - Kill Zone (A.B's 'FFWD 2 RWD' Remix) Transcend & Cyrax - I'll Show You The Darkside (Jakka-B Remix) Rikki Arkitech - Alone Rikki Arkitech - AI Danger (A.B & Cyrax Remix) Stereotype - Welcome To My Jungle Transcend & Cyrax - Insight (Matt OD Remix) This mix goes from an awesome intro into Drum and Bass to Freeform to Gabber. Isn't that what you were hoping for? Well, if it was, you are in for a treat. This is truly a wicked mix, but is it Cyrax's finest mix so far? You see, I don't know. It could be, but he's made a few wicked mixes, and they are all good. I do like it when it's a diverse mix, and not your standard mix. The result is an interesting mix that keeps you going. And he's picked a lot of wicked anthems, which were released on the big labels such as Energy Field, A-Tech, Stamina Records, Hospital Records and more. If you aren't into Freeform, this mix isn't your thing. But if you are ready to experiment, let Cyrax take you on a journey. As hard as the mix might be, as 'soft' and delicate the music is he used for this mix. And another bonus you might find interesting: it's a free download! Woop woop! - GPF & Mizz Behave @ Shutdown Festival 2020 [Live Recording]
It's been a while since I last reviewed anything by the Greazy Boys, too damn long. Lockdown has caused a lot of aggro, and it has been a pain in the arse for many of us. Also for GPF, but they do prefer it in their arsehole. Anyway, don't you worry guys and guys, they are back. In August GPF did a set with Mizz Behave at Shutdown Festival, in Austria. And if you haven't seen the livestream (like yours truly), you are going to be in for a treat. They did a set in a bloody nuclear location! How's that for a livestream? Not your 'standard' livestream, eh? Cant' believe it's more than a year ago since I last saw them perform at their own event in the Netherlands. So much has happened, and am I wrong in saying that the GPF bloke in the video has a crush on Mizz Behave? There's so much sexual tension in this video, it's unbelievable. And what about their signature hand signs? Looks like they are holding balls in their hands. You can say whatever you like, but GPF and Mizz Behave do bring the madness. And during this livestream you get the madness thrown at you like a bloody harpoon! You might like or dislike their music or their approach to the harder styles, but you can certainly say it's never boring with GPF and Mizz Behave. Is it even normal? Nope, certainly not. It's stupid, ridiculous but I like the idiocy behind the act. You never know who's behind the act, and whatever happens. One second it's all happy and light hearted music, and the next you are ass f**ked by piep kicks. And I'm not sure that they even know what GPF is, or the music they make. They do bring a smile on my face, and that's all needed. And a lot of penises. And blow up dolls. Who would grow up as a kid and hoped they would become the weirdest act in the hard dance industry? No one does, but GPF and Mizz Behave have taken it to the next level. The 'brand' is growing rapidly, and there's no stopping them. Is it a joke? Maybe, but at least they are having fun. And so do the thousands of ravers who see them live or via streaming services. And I'm a fan of their shenanigans. Not their biggest fan, I wouldn't put a tattoo of them on my body, but I do certainly wear their merchandise with pride. Like a cock. A peacock. So their set at Shutdown did not come naturally with a tracklist (booo!) but someone was so kind to add one to the comments. There's always one that knows EVERYTHING. So here's the tracklist, if you are really that bothered. GPF & Kutski - ID GPF & Russian Village Boys - ID The Straikerz - Party Started (Mizz Behave Remix) Partyraiser & Repix - Ode To The Godfather w/ Malice & GPF - All Wanna F**k (Piep Edit) GPF feat MC Jeff - Cummin' On Ur Face Angernoizer & Caine - The Nightmare Russian Village Boys x Skurt - Forever Drunk Da Tweekaz - Moana (How Far I'll Go) (Caine & GPF 200 BPM Donk F**k Duck Piep Kick Edit) GPF & D-Fence - Virgin Rooler & Sefa - Survive The Streets w/ GPF x J1zzy - The Cumikaze Mashup Jebroer - Gaan Met Die Banaan (GPF & Mizz Behave Laser Piep Kick Version Of Riot Shift's Vegang Edit) Unicorn On Ketamine - Horsestyle Mizz Behave - ID GPF - Stripper Mizz Behave & The Freaky Bastard - LOCA GPF & Riot Shift - Broccoli Fuck GPF & Mind Compressor - Spaghetti Love (Mizz Behave Remix) GPF x Caine x Mizz Behave - Greazed Up Mizz Behave - Suck My Puzzy E-Force - Seven (Dimitri K Edit) Dead Or Alive - You Spin Me Round (Like A Record) (GPF Remix) GPF x Mizz Behave - I Fucked A Girl Ran-D & Endymion feat LePrince - Run From Reality (Mizz Behave Remix) GPF & Angernoizer - ID Cascada - Everytime We Touch (GPF Everytime We Fuck Edit) GPF - Venga Fuck That's certainly one seriously fucked up mix. You cannot say with a straight face that this is 'normal'. Come on, try saying it's normal, GPF and Mizz Behave. I cannot describe it, nor can you. Yes, you might be wearing the pink tracksuit and bought the GPF mask and the Mizz Behave crop top , but what is GPF? It's like Stephen Hawking trying to explain to us the reason why the universe is there, the shape of it, and the creation of mankind. We can listen, but we try our best to understand it, and we nod our head, but does it make sense? Nope. Sorry Stephen, you have tried, but you were on a different level all together. Just like this set. Is this set perfect? Nope, not really. Is it fucked? Yes, certainly. I've been listening to this set the last few hours, and it's as messed up as you can expect it to be. But as weird as it might be, they have reached their target: the stage! In this case the stage was in Austria, but whatever you think of it, they bring the madness and nipples to the masses. I had fun, weird enough. Their track selection is as ostentatious as you would expect it to be. They had fun I think, can't really tell with them wearing masks. But a lot of viewers on Youtube did like their set, and so did I. It wasn't perfect, a few mistakes here and there, but nothing major. Still hard and mad as fuck. The best track is GPF's latest record 'Stripper'. Don't know where the vocals are from, but they are catchy as hell. I hope GPF and Mizz Behave are all OK, and keep providing us with the madness! Keep up the silly work. - Convergence 005 (Classic ID&T Special) (2016)
Since the early 90s I've been a fan of ID&T. Music wise of course. Been to a few parties organised by them, but I also purchase a shit ton of albums released by them. Of course the Thunderdome collection, but also other collections, such as their Hard Trance compilation, Innercity CDs, Mysteryland, and the list goes on. I was a huge fan boy, and you could tell. I was especially in love with the Trance and harder Trance sound that emerged after the Millennium. Hardcore was on its way out (not literally), so we had to listen to something else. Hardstyle was cool, but I was more of a flying high type of guy. So Trance it was. Even in 2020 I am still a fan boy of the excellent music that was released around 2000. Those were glorious years. I don't know how big their market share was, but ID&T must have had a huge impact on the dance scene with their music. The compilations were top notch. Not always the finest, but certainly memorable. And today I've found a mix you all certainly would like to hear. Ross Anderson's mix came to my attention because I wanted to hear a mix on Soundcloud which included a record by S.H.O.K.K. & Marcel Woods. I do not know who Ross Anderson is, and I didn't know he had his own show, but I did find this fifth instalment on Soundcloud, which coincidentally has the record I was looking for, and a few others too. Golden tracks from the ID&T era. Before it all went tits up. So you are curious to see the tracklist, am I right? Well, here is it: Benjamin Bates - Blue Monday Benjamin Bates - Lost Myself Rank 1 - Cosmomatic Mac J - Perfect Blend Rank 1 - Awakening (Ferry Corsten Remix) Mac J - Nightwire Jaron Inc - Nothing To Lose (Airbase Remix) Woodshokk - Tulips & Chocolate Marcel Woods - Static State (Tech Trance Mix) Kay D Smith & Marc Tall - Hoipolloi Marco V - Godd See, this is a nice looking tracklist, isn't it? Beautiful and sweet. This takes me right back to the wicked years, the years I almost remember, but due to the amount of alcoholic beverages have got difficulties with remembering. But what I do remember will have a lasting impact on me. Gosh, I love the Millennium music. It was so damn good. The track I am currently in love with, is 'Tulips & Chocolate', and that also the reason why I am listening to this mix. It's a damn good mix, and I am really enjoying it. Carefully selected and mixed. Not a fan of the first track, if I'm honest. Benjamin Bates has made much better records than 'Blue Monday', but after this the music increases, and so does my heartbeat. Classic after classic. I really enjoyed this set, and so should you. Time to dig up those Millennium compilations, and feel like a teenager again. And with 'Tulips & Chocolate' I immediately feel like I am dancing in the Amsterdam Rai, at Innercity. The good years. - -Nederhopmix by Mo6- (2020)
Today, and the last couple of days, I've been enjoying Dutch Hip Hop music a lot. I don't know why, but I just seem to feel the music a bit more. Maybe it's also because I've not been in the Netherlands for a while now, and I might get withdrawal symptoms. Don't know what the exact reason is, but I am feeling the earlier stuff a lot. And it's nice to listen to something that the majority in the UK wouldn't have a clue about what the rappers are saying. I feel slightly unique. I stand out. Oh yeah. Let me inform you, I am not an expert of Dutch Hip Hop, or as we call it Nederhop. I know a few names, but not the ins- and outs. Only the basic stuff. I don't even know how most of these rappers look like. But I am not fucked. I cannot be arsed to be into all of that nonsense. The music is all that matters to me. I just find the vibes good and exciting, and it keeps me going. It might not be as violent and aggressive as American Hip Hop, but it's still packs a punch. The mix was made by Mo6. I do not know anything about this DJ, this is the first time I have come across one of his mixes, but this mix is jam packed with Nederhop anthems. I do know the majority of anthems, but there are also a few in here so dark and edgy, fucking underground, and as you know I am not in the underground scene. But if you are Dutch of Flemish and you would like to hear a Nederhop mix, don't look further. But even if you do not know what the lyrics are about, you can still highly enjoy the music. There's one thing I can give the producers credit for: the music is really good. As lame as the lyrics might be, as hard as the beats and bass are. Mo6's mix is really entertaining. It's really good, the tracks are really what I needed to hear. Not all of them are as good as you would expect them to be, but they are still highly entertaining. Especially the records released by the people from Opgezwolle. I am a fan of them since I heard them perform 'Hoedenplank'. That's a big ass song. Their voices are just so soothing and their messages are just so deep, and sometimes even fucking silly. I do like the diversity of this mix. From the darker stuff to the lighter and happy stuff. And it's not easy to mix Hip Hop music, seeing as it's extremely diverse. And that's the downfall of this mix. The mixing is off from time to time. Well, a lot of times to be fair. Mo6 has tried to make this mix work, and the message does come across, but it's not brilliant. I will still give this mix a good score. It's not only negative though, Mo6 selected really awesome anthems. So credits for that. And the mixing sometimes is OK. Wish it was OK a bit more often throughout this mix..... Best track? It was difficult, but I choose DuvelDuvel with 'Wie Is Ut?'. Big anthem from back in the days! - 🎶 The Ultimate Oldschool Hardcore Gabber Mix (2018)
The 90s were so glorious. Hardcore was so unique, exciting and fresh, and it will be with us for the rest of our lives, those who have experienced it. I was one of them, and am still proud to be part of this culture. I might have been slightly too young during the 90s, but when I did party in 1998 onwards, I became part of this rich culture that not only took the Netherlands by storm, but the whole world! Hardcore 4 life, and Hardcore will never die! Those were slogans shouted out a lot during the 90s. But we meant it. It was our way of living, our culture. Our calling. Someone on Youtube made this mix. Someone with the channel called Hardstyleofchoice. Before people start posting stuff in line with 'he's got Hardstyle in his name, he's not Hardcore', let's just focus on the music. And the video. If you can, I would urge you to watch the video. The video contains footage of several parties during the 90s, from all over. A couple of things you might notice: one of them being the fact that drugs was used during these events and some of the ravers looked so damn high, they weren't probably in our galaxy anymore. And secondly, everyone is having fun. A lot of laughs. Hands in the air, and as the Dutch would say 'gaan met die banaan'. And that's just it. Everyone who remembers the 90s, remembers the good part of it. We all had fun. Yes, it might have been devilish music, but hey, we had fun. We enjoyed ourselves. We lived our lives to the fullest. I was part of it, and didn't need drugs to get me going. The music was (and still is) extremely exciting, new, and just what the 'teenagers' needed. We needed new music, and Hardcore/Gabber was created just at the right time. Whoever made this mix, credits to what you have made. More than 1.1 million views on Youtube, and counting. And the tracklist is one to check out. A few classics in here that you might have missed for a few years, or not even remember. But the mix is packed with dancefloor anthems, only for the party people. Not the people who stand at the bar, not moving. Only the gabbers and raveteef crowd is allowed to check this out. The tracklist. Wow. You will immediately be transported back to the 90s. Good times. A good selection. I even forgot a few tracks even existed! But yeah, the majority of records I could still remember vividly, and like they never left my conscious. They've always been part of me, and will be part of me, even when I'm 83. I will be deaf and not able to hear a single thing, but I would still hear the songs in my head. You don't need speakers to hear and feel the music. I was thinking at first that this Hardcore mix was slightly focussed to the happier side of Hardcore, and then I realised that I do not care, really. Both Hardcore/Gabber and Happy Hardcore have always been my favourite styles, so I cannot be judgemental. And the tracks in this mix are good. So is the video. It's nice to see everyone having a lot of fun during the 90s. The mix is sometimes a bit 'meh'. It's good, but not always excellent. A few hits and misses, here and there. Small errors. But I did enjoy it a lot. The outcome is still a happy Dutchman, thinking about the good ol' days. And that's what you wanted me to do. Which record is the one that got me raving the hardest? Well, you wouldn't believe me, but there are two. One being 'Going Crazy' remixed by Bodylotion, and the other 'Get Free' by Mental Theo and Charly Lownoise. That last one still gets me deep inside, and even though it's happy as fuck, it's still a classic. A wicked mix. A time capsule on Youtube. Worth checking out! - Intents Festival 2020 | Liveset Partyraiser
If there's one event I have never visited but really would like to go to, it's Intents Festival, which is held every year in the Netherlands. Obviously they had to change that. I am not going to bore you with the state of the world: I think everyone is aware of the virus that is ruling the world, besides the Hardcore virus (I am talking about COVID of course). But with the online event taking place instead, they had to alter the sets slightly, so you only had a handful of DJs performing, but they did get the finest of the finest, including the set you are about to listen to. Devin Wild, Sub Zero Project, Radical Redemption, Paul Elstak, Mark With A K, B-Front & Keltek, D-Sturb, Warface, Killshot, Rebelion, Partyraiser, and more. So a nice line-up, a nice treat for the die hard Harder style fanatics. And previously I talked about D-Sturb's set, and today it's Partyraiser's set. Last Thursday I was in the office, where normally hundreds of people work, but there were only about 20. So headphones on, and music on loud, but I needed some musical juice, something that would pump my eardrums hard. And then this appeared on Soundcloud.... I recently heard a Partyraiser set, recorded at Ghosttown many years ago, which was focussed on the Millennium Hardcore sound, and I was really pleased to hear that set. With that in the back of my head I decided to give this set a go: it does state 'Hardcore' as hashtag on Soundcloud. Well, it was hard as nails, and blew my f**king ears into smithereens! My God, from the first to the last second of this hour long set it's hard as fuck. No Millennium Hardcore or anything 'soft', only Uptempo Hardcore and everything faster. Earlier this evening I was reviewing a Hard Trance set. If that's not your thing and you want something harder, let Partyraiser's set be your introduction to the weekend, in which we probably have to stay indoors. But hey ho, at least enough ammo to blow up your fucking speakers! Bulletproof & Partyraiser & The Dark Horror - Here We Go (Edit) MBK - Hurt Locker DJV & Mind Compressor - 6.1.9 Dimitri K - Firestorm Glitch - SMD ID - ID Partyraiser vs Streiks & Kratchs - 40's For The Crew Partyraiser - Boobytrap ID - ID Partyraiser & Repix - Ode To The Godfather (Extinction Kickedit) ID - ID Andy The Core - Steal This (MBK Remix) Rob Gee - My 909 Dimitri K - Surprise Insane S - Messed Up Vision Loud Carnage - Motherf@cker Inner Rage - Ode To The Hansie 2.0 Chain Reaction - The Record Breaking (Unlocked Bootleg) Febro - Knock Knock X-Pander & MBK - On Your Knees Angerfist & N-Vitral - Bare Knuckle Fist (ID Remix) Tha Playah & Never Surrender - Hardcore Door Je Donder (ID Mashup) Partyraiser & MBK - Destroy The Subs Naska - Hell No Bulletproof & Partyraiser - Bonnie & Clyde Barber - No Blood On Me ID - ID Unit - Wassup! (ID Mashup) Nekrosystem - Terror Bamba Let me warn you: if you don't like your Hardcore fast and hard as hell, don't press play! Seriously, don't press play. As happy and smiley as Partyraiser might be during his set, he brings the madness, and the madness is fucking mental. It is still weird to see DJs without a crowd.Yes, he might have had 74k+ views on Youtube and thousands on Soundcloud, but it's just Partyraiser we see during the livestream. And we even hear him clap. It sounds so damn weird. Normally you would expect screaming and shouting ravers, but now it's Partyraisers hands that make a noise. Fuck COVID. But that all aside, when your set starts with a snippet from LOTR, Sir Ian McKellen screaming 'you shall not pass', you know shit is about to go down. And for the next 60 minutes, Partyraiser has got your attention. There's no way you can look anywhere else besides at hime. Intents Festival have down their best to make this livestream interesting, and they've certainly delivered. But it's Partyraiser that brought the fire to the stage. The best record has to be MBK's 'Hurt Locker'. Hard as fucking nails, and really a record that will give you 1000% power in an instant. If you feel tired and down, just put this record on, and you will have the energy to fly around the world with nothing but speedos on. There were a handful of records I didn't like, but they still kept my head moving/bopping up and down vigorously. It still gave me the boost I needed at work. Thanks Partyraiser for this 'snoeiharde' set. Really enjoyed it, and by the looks of it, you did too! Bring back partying, and bring it back right now. Or whenever it's safe for us to go outside. - Scot Project Luminosity Live Set (Studio) (2020)
2020 could have been so different, yet here we are. COVID is doing our nut in, and we are all attached to our screens, locked to the wonderful world of the internet, to get our daily fix of music. Whatever floats your boat, it's out there. And today I've got a set for you Hard Trance fanatics. A set by the majestic Scot Project. It should have taken place at Luminosity 2020, in Zandvoort. But that did not happen. Some bitch called COVID decided to cancel the whole world in one single go, and now we had to watch the streams online. Still OK, if I'm honest, but not ideal. You want to dance in the sand, while holding a cocktail in one hand, and the other touching the blue sky, when the sun is beaming down on you. Fuck you COVID. And as every edition, they did have a killer line-up. Ferry Corsten, John O'Callaghan, Gareth Emery, Markus Schulz, Paul van Dyk, Sander van Doorn, Binary Finary, Paul Oakenfold, Johan Gielen, RAM, Andy Moor, and the list goes on and on. If you like Trance music, this event is the one you need to check out. But you probably already have, who am I kidding? And seeing as you are a Trance fanatic, you have already checked out Scot Project's set, eh? So no point in discussion the event, let's talk shop. Shop being music. And the reason why I am now reviewing this mix, is because I found out that someone posted a tracklist underneath the livestream on Youtube. Someone via Soundcloud informed me about its existence. But it's missing the one track I am after, and if you know which is the fifth track, please inform me. That one is fucking banging! But without further ado, here the tracklist! Nikhil Prakash - Momentum Golden Girls - Kinetic (Genix Extended Mix) Genix - Ba55 Camp Etherculture - Puncture ID - ID Scot Project - M (Metropolis) Scot Project - S (Outer Space) (D10 Remix) Skysurfer - Colors (Wavetraxx Remix) Darren Hall - Got 2 Keep (Original Mix) Kinetica & Inversed - Amphetamine Dave Steward - Planters Prism Sneijder & Billy Gillies - Rhino Black XS - Il Gato Jan Vervloet vs DJ Ghost - Super Dry (Original Mix) H!Dude - Sexual Destruction (Original Mix) Asquith - Rave Til Dawn ID - ID Zatox - Let Me See Ya I am really in awe when it comes to Scot Project and his love and dedication to Hard Trance. He is just a legend, and the comments on his livestream are only positive. But would you have expected it to be any different? This dreadlock wearing music fanatic has been entertaining us for many years, and for many years to come. He knows what the fans want to hear, and he always delivers. ALWAYS. Can someone please tell me the fifth record that Scot Project played during his set? I am really in love with this record, and so are many others with me. A timeless classic, which we do not know the name of. But it could be a Scot Project song. It has all the ingredients to be one. Please fucking please, who can make my day and enlighten me on the title of this song? Scot Project has done it again. Only love and appreciation for his set. It's been another epic set by him. His set is filled with wicked anthems, especially number 5, but I also like 'Rave Til Dawn' by Asquith. Well, I like them all, including Scot's own stuff. I am easily pleased, but even I have to say that Scot Project is on a different level. He's a legend with powers like no other. Epic set, does not need any more information. Listen to this right NOW! And download it too! Oh, I've added both players underneath: Youtube and Soundcloud. You pick. But do pick. - Mat Zo Presents: 20 Years Of Anjunabeats (Continuous Mix) (2020)
It is Monday, and you are probably still working, or not. I started early, so I finished early. And you've guessed it, seeing as I'm working from home still: I found a wicked mix for you all! One that you have probably already seen and you are thinking ''jeez, he's a bit slow, isn't he?''. Yes, I am not as woke as the kids are (don't know if I'm using that correctly). But hey ho, you cannot have everything the way you want it. If you have seen and listened to this mix already, I do apologise. But why not listen to it again and again? You all know what Anjunabeats is, and what kind of impact they have had so far in the dance scene. And they still keep on pushing music toward us, and I am happy to sit here, and let them take over my earwaves. I am loving it, and to celebrate their 20 years in the game, they have asked a few DJs to fabricate mixes, Mixes which obviously contain records released on this majestic label, and a few have contributed so far: Oliver Smith, Mat Zo, Sunny Lax, Jaytech, Maor Levi, Nitrous Oxide, ilan Bluestone, Grum, Fatum, and more are coming our way. So make sure you follow Anjunabeats on the usual platforms if you don't want to miss out! Obviously Mat Zo does not need an introduction. If you are really that desperate to find out who he is, just Google him. For now we should be focussing on his contribution to the celebrations surrounding the label Anjunabeats. And his mix has already received a lot of positive feedback, and within a few months already nearly 12k plays on Soundcloud. Now that's big, but not big enough for a Grammy nominee. Well, let's see what Mat Zo picked for his mix. See if it will carry you away. Flying high in the sky, eh? Michael Cassette - Zeppelin Signalrunners - Meet Me In Montauk Myon & Shane 54 - Not A Lot Left Andy Moor - Fake Way (Ecomix) Bart Claessen - Elf (2001 Returning Mix) Signalrunners & Julie Thompson - These Shoulders (Club Mix) David West feat Andreas Hermansson - Larry Mountains 54 Maor Levi - Illumina David West - Welsh Morphology Kyau & Albert - Kiksu Above & Beyond -World On Fire (12 Inch Mix) Maor Levi - Shapes (Oliver Smith Remix) The good thing about these mixes is the fact that you know most of the tracks (or sometimes them all), and you know you won't be disappointed. Especially with a label such as Anjunabeats, you know you are in for a good ride! A few records did caught my eye, but I have to give one record the ultimate credit for being such a f**king epic tune. I remember hearing that one for the first time in an Armin van Buuren megamix for ASOT, and it just stuck with me. It was played only for max of 30 seconds, but those 30 seconds left a lasting impression. I am obviously talking about 'Larry Mountains 54'. Also credit for the most random title ever. Obviously not the weirdest name ever, but it's up there. Mat Zo, his mix is dope as f**k. And I've really enjoyed it. He's used a few slammers, and some are still my all time favourite anthems, like 'Larry Mountains 54' and ;Meet Me In Montauk'. I can only share the love, like so many already have. I am in awe when it comes to Mat Zo's mix, and the music that is released on Anjunabeats. So if you are in awe too, why not check out this mix, other mixes, and download them all! It might even reduce the length of the week by 2358967 seconds.... (I'm just saying bollocks)..... But you know what I am saying. Make sure you get the album. It's already a classic in the making. - Binary Finary - Trance Central 5 Classics Mix (2014)
It's Friday, and the weekend is nearly about to happen. We are waiting for the clock to hit 5 in the afternoon, so we can take off our work clothes, and enjoy the weekend. Enjoying it, by staying at home. You could have a house party, but not with a lot of friends. Only 5 friends you can have, the rule is a maximum of 6 people. And seeing as the party industry has fallen completely into disrepair and there are no real major events happening, we can only party at home. But when we do, let's make it awesome! I remember reviewing another Binary Finary set a few months ago, which was their third instalment of their Trance Central Classics mix series. Now we've reached the fifth instalment, and if you love Trance and love the classics, you will be in for a treat. They do know how to please the listeners, and this mix might be 6 years old, it's still a mix you will have to listen to. It's not outdated or boring whatsoever. If you want to be in a state of ecstasy,Binary Finary have got your back. This mix is jam packed with forgotten gems, truly masterful anthems. And it's a good mix to catch up on some forgotten classics, if you are not listening to classic Trance constantly. And it's also nice to hear certain versions I've not heard before, like 'The Rebel' by Yves Deruyter. I know the original, like everyone else, but this version by DJ Randy is certainly sweet. And you can find more of this in this hour and a half mix. Check out the tracklist, do it right now! Dutch Force - Deadline (Allen & Envy vs Phil Parry Rework) Nu NRG - Supersonik Way (Nyx 2013 Rework) Rank 1 - Airwave (Daniel Rems 2013 Reboot) Darude - Feel The Beat (Original Mix) Condor - You Can Kiss My (Original Mix) Nu NRG - Dreamland (John Dopping 2011 Reconsideration) Jonah - Ssssst.... (Listen) (Original Mix) Mauro Picotto - Komodo (Original Mix) Cascade - Transcend (Moonman's Trancentral Remix) Dave 202 & Phil Green - Legends (Hijackers Remix) Joy Kitikonti - Joyenergizer (Phisical Mix) Yves Deruyter - The Rebel (DJ Randy Remix) Commander Tom - Are Am Eye (John Askew Remix) Binary Finary - 1998 (Alex M.O.R.P.H. Remix) This mix is hard as hell. Hard as nails. It contains so much filth, that it becomes extremely difficult to be in a state of Trance. You are more likely to be taken over by the devil, and he's got you in his grip. He won't let go of you, and he will make sure you dance, dance! And at the same time he rubs your face into the fact that you cannot hear these anthems being played at an event near you. I have to say that one of the things that made me very happy, was the usage of Jonah's record. I do love this filthy record from the first time I heard it, back in 1999. How do I remember which year it was, and yet I forget what I did 5 minutes ago? Well, it was on a Mysteryland album, which was released in 1999. So ner. I've got only credit for Binary Finary. A fucking epic mix, no flaws or mistakes. Carefully selected records, carefully mixed together. And it's just great to hear these tunes again. I don't know how many editions there are of this mix series, but I will certainly check them all out. Unless this was the last, and I'm too late? Have a nice weekend y'all! - Thunderdome 2019 Heroes Of Hardcore Mix By Jehuty
We have made it to Tuesday! Wahey, time to party. And since last Monday I've been working at home alone: the wife is back in the office. So I'm sitting here, all alone, and guess what happens? The Dutchman is back in his 'normal' environment: Hardcore music is blasting through his speakers. And of course I am listening to the music that I grew up with. The proper Hardcore, the golden tunes. The tunes that shaped me into the person I am. And that's all thanks to Thunderdome's recent livestream. The spark has been ignited again. But does it truly go off? Last year we had the brilliant Thunderdome, with the wicked camouflage background surrounding the Wizard. And I only recently discovered a mix made to celebrate last year's edition. A mix made by someone called Jehuty. He/she made a few mixes to commemorate the upcoming event, but the one I am interested in, is the Heroes Of Hardcore mix. This sub group of Thunderdome had its own CD collection, which I owned 95% of. And some editions were much better than the Thunderdome CDs. But they were memorable. Jehuty made this mix, containing 35 records from the finest Hardcore DJs/producers. The tracks will blow your mind. Some of these records I've not come across for a few years, maybe even longer than a decade. But it's good to hear those sexy, ear soothing anthems again! And if you are a true Hardcore lover, you will know at least 97% of the records selected for this mix. I don't know if you are ready for this amount of filth. Jehuty, whoever you are, the tracklist is superb. True Hardcore fanatics will have moist underpants and/or erections right now. This is filth, freaking filth. Promo & MC Drokz - Thunderdome Anthem 2007 (Intro CUT) 50% Of The Dreamteam - Open Sesame (Theme From Hell) Catscan - WOIII Promo & X-Ess - Vicious Circle DJ Promo - Counter Attack DJ Promo - King Of Pain DJ Promo - Life From The Other Side Bodylotion - How Much Can You Take (Catscan Remix) Menace 2 Society - Chronic Disorder Tony Salmonelli - Hey! You know, some of these records have got this distinctive MoH sound, and some the Thunderdome sound. I do not know how to describe it, but who actually gives a fucking shit about what I type? It's all fucking Hardcore, and that's all that matters! Jehuty has selected some heavyweight anthems. Let me get them out of the way right now: these are the three biggest and finest records of this mix (according to me): DJ Paul & Promo's 'Enemies 4 Life', remixed by Promo, Nosferatu's 'Have It Your Way', and of course The Viper's 'Intellectual Killer', remixed by Nosferatu and Endymion. Those three are certainly my most favourite ones, but what are yours? I think I know Hardcore enough, especially the early stuff, but this mix proves to me that I've still got things to learn. Jehuty selected a few records so unknown to me, I had to Google them. American Hardcore Alliance? DJ Sabotage? And I've never heard the Omar Santana record before. Never too old to learn, eh? And I'm not a millionaire: not had all the money to buy each and every Hardcore record ever made! I like the mix a lot. Just 'knallen'. Nothing else. A few small mixing errors, but nothing major. I will certainly follow the page, and check out the other mixes he/she has made. Thanks Jehuty for making my Tuesday slightly better! - Drokz @ Thunderdome Hardcore Stream (2020)
About a month and a bit ago, Thunderdome decided to treat the fans to a fantastic livestream. With a few big names they did capture a lot of attention: Nosferatu, Ophidian, DRS, Marc Acardipane, and Drokz. Well, they had to: the world has stopped dancing, and the only thing we can get instead is music coming to us via our speakers. And organisations are not stopping, they still provide us with the finest music out there. And ID&T is no exception. I do not know how many actually joined the livestream, I couldn't watch it myself, was on a holiday with the wife, and she finds that more important than just a livestream. I've already reviewed Marc Acardipane's set, and today it's time for good ol' Drokz behind the wheels of steel. And as much as you think of me, you have to give this man a lot of credit for being at the forefront of Terror since the early 1900s. Yes, he's that old, hence his nickname opa (which means grandad in Dutch). He does look slightly angry, and about to devour an animal with his bare hands, I've never seen Drokz laugh and enjoy himself as much as he did during his livestream. Drokz can smile! It's a blessing to see opa laugh. Many of the people out there might not know of the style we love called Terror, and might assume it's just noise and nothing else, those people are wrong. Terror does deserve credit for being different and hard, and not having any boundaries: as long as it's fucking hard. It should have a bit of a melody though, otherwise we can just listen to Splittercore. Terror sometimes does sound so lovely and mild, but can turn vicious within second. Drokz certainly shows his skills as a wicked DJ and producer during this 31 minute long set, and gives us all the music we need. And he has a laugh. Good on you Drokz, for enjoying this. I would shit myself completely live on air. But you are a living legend, this is nothing new to you. I found this video on Youtube, and I cannot keep my eyes from looking anywhere else: I am intrigued in what happens during Drokz's set. And I am still wondering which prison this was recorded in? Was it Scheveningen? It's a famous prison in the Netherlands, but I don't want to use Google, that's lame. Well, time for the tracklist. 31 minutes, 18 records. Thanks Drokz for uploading the whole tracklist. See, that's one of the reasons why he's a fucking legend. Dione - The Switch Proactive HC - Who The Fuck Proactive HC & Vandal!sm - Someone Make Some Noise Drokz - Rip It Up Dolphin - Mic Mutilator (Akira Remix) Proactive HC - Bad Reputation Proactive HC - The Definition Of Hard Nosferatu & System Overload - Hating It Drokz - Oh This Is So Hard (VIP Version) Drokz - Wild For The Night Detest & Drokz - Beer Pressure Drokz - Phonking Like A OG Hellfish & Akira - Rise Of The Uptempians The Vizitor feat Narcotic - Fuck You Up Akira & Metal D - Trancetrutje (Drokz Remix) Drokz - Cocaine The Devils Brain Creatures Of The Occult - Fear (VIP Version) DJ Smurf - Exposure King (2020 Re-Strip) Let me warn you: this is certainly NOT music for anything who thinks pop music is the best out there! This is only for the hardest motherfuckers out there. People who appreciate Terror music, and who can see the beauty in each record. Yes, some records are just straight forward fucking hard as hell, and no hidden messages can be found. But some are just so beautiful, and hard to explain to outsiders why the music is so damn great. You either like it or you don't. And I'm guessing that you are liking this, seeing as you are reading this review. The whole set up is just spot on. A prison. The hardest DJ. The noise Drokz makes a second before he presses play. The smile from ear to ear. His can of beer. The lights. The camera crew. The huge arse wizard everywhere. Thunderdome. I can only give credit to ID&T for making this worth our time. And thanking Drokz for these wicked anthems. Yes, yes, yes. Drokz has put in a lot of effort. Of course he has a few 'funny' and jokey songs in here, like the one he ends with, but let's not underestimate his passion for Terror: his new group called Proactive HC is doing great things, and we can hear a few songs during this livestream. New and fresh, yet with a nostalgic sound from the early days. Two records stand out for me, and they are both hard as nails: 'The definition Of Hard' by Proactive HC, and 'Fear' by Creatures Of The Occult. I love the whole set, but the second I heard these come on, my mind just went fully insane, and I couldn't contain my happiness. I peed myself, like a dog being excited for the first time. Don't blame me, Drokz always does this to me. I've got huge respect for Drokz after all these years. Recently he did a few interviews, and it has opened my eyes slightly. And I respect him for who he is behind the decks. And I hope he keeps on doing what he's doing until the end of time; we certainly need Drokz. I cannot imagine living in a world where there's no Drokz. No drugs, yeah, but no Drokz is the worst thing you can imagine. Drokz, you've done it again. I can understand why you are smiling, because you've shown the world yet again why you are the leader. The boss man. The OG. The opa. - Johan Gielen - Live @ Trance Energy, Jaarbeurs, Utrecht 16.02.2002
The year is 2002. The world was suffering from another epidemic, namely the Trance epidemic. The whole world was in awe of this wicked music style, and as usual, ID&T made sure the raving community got what they really needed. Trance Energy took place in the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht, the Netherlands, and the line-up might have looked so tasty, you would really be a complete idiot to have missed this edition! Let me name everyone that played at that year's event: Alex M.O.R.P.H, Blank & Jones, Cosmic Gate, Jean, Rank 1, Johan Gielen, Bart Claessen, Jurgen, Mark van Dale, Pronti & Kalmani, Bas & Ram, Dumone, Francois, Kai Tracid, and Yves Deruyter. Now that's a fucking epic line-up. Fast forward 18 years in the future, and partying has seized. COVID has taken over control, and we are sitting here, enjoying live feeds on social media, trying to feel like we are raving again. But it's not the same. And will it ever be the same? Time will tell, but for now the online community is the only one that keeps us from losing the plot. We need music, and we need it, like a drip: constantly hitting us, at the right pace, and the right intensity. And today I'm taking you back to 2002. Guess which event I am talking about? That's obviously a silly question: it's Trance Energy I am talking about. And the set was by Johan Gielen. After browsing the internet I found out that many seem to liked his set a lot. And by looking at the tracklist I can fully understand why people love his set. So many great anthems from a forgotten era. 2 hours of early 2000s Trance music. Who would not want to hear that? Trance Energy was obviously a big event back in the days. Don't know why they ever stopped organising them. Can't remember if I have actually been to a Trance Energy. I've been to quite a few events, and some I have completely missed due to me being intoxicated. But if I had a time machine I would definitely go back to the years Trance Energy took place, and rave my ass off. Time to look at the tracklist and enjoy the music! Intro Human Evolution - Human Evolution DJ Tiesto - Lethal Industry (Svenson & Gielen Remix) Minimalistix - Close Cover (Airscape Remix) Marco V - GODD Space Frog feat The Grim Reaper - Follow Me (Mr Bishi Remix) Rank 1 - Awakening (Benicio Remix) Mauro Picotto - Pulsar (Megamid Mix) 4 Clubbers - Children (Club Mix) Svenson & Gielen - Twisted (Energy Mix) DJ Hein - Energetic Rhythm (Donkey Rollers Remix) Push - The Legacy (Svenson & Gielen Remix) Marco Bailey - Carrera (Craigh Walsh Remix) Soho - Flyin Madness Funk Einsatz - Punk Mauro Picotto - Awesome! (Original Mix) Svenson & Gielen - We Know What You Did (Johan Gielen Remix) Yoda - Definately (DJ Scot Project Mix) Brooklyn Bounce - Club Bizarre (DJ Scot Project Remix) Svenson & Gielen - The Beauty Of Silence (Pump Mix) Nu-NRG - Dreamland Lexicon 4 - Reach Me (Svenson & Gielen Remix) Wow. What a tracklist! I have been following Trance for a few years now, and I am still amazed by its strength. It doesn't matter from which decade Trance music is, it remains timeless music. Works of art. Not every record is, but the majority can be seen as wicked. And Johan Gielen's set is packed with awesome records. Don't just believe me, believe the 17k+ listeners on Soundcloud! It's so damn good to hear these classic anthems again. I've forgotten about a few. Sadly you don't hear them all over and over again: it's not the early noughties anymore. But it's good that in 2020 I am enjoying the music I grew up with. And Johan Gielen did his best to get everyone dancing in the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht. The last time I remember seeing him was back in 2002, at the Mega Music Dance Experience, also held in the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht. Haven't seen him since sadly. His set is excellent, and packed with truly epic anthems. From Trance to Hard Trance, everything is in here. And there are two records I could not leave aside: 'Awesome!' by Mauro Picotto and 'Club Bizarre' by Brooklyn Bounce, remixed by Scot Project. Those are the two records that come to mind when I think of the word 'epic', and in 2020 they still hold their value as being dancefloor destroyers! Damn, why does good music sometimes change? The Trance from 2020 does not sound anything like the early days, and boy, those early days were fucking epic! Johan's set is one that you need to listen to, to feel euphoric, and get that nostalgic feeling of the early years of Trance. Or the Millennium Trance sound. Whatever it's called, it's great! - Masters Of Hardcore Mix (2013)
Welcome to Tuesday, Hardcore day. I don't know if that's a genuine thing, but it must be a specific day of the week when it is indeed official Hardcore day. If it isn't today, well, sod you then, go somewhere else. But for now, let's pretend it is indeed Hardcore day, and we all need a bit of Hardcore on this slightly warm Tuesday. What kind of music do we prefer? Any specific label or style do you prefer? If you prefer Masters of Hardcore, you are in for a treat! I went browsing on Soundcloud a few weeks ago, and I stumbled across this mix. A MoH mix, made by someone called Meister Jogi. It doesn't appear to be an active account on Soundcloud: someone who made three mixes, and vanished of Soundcloud. That's cool. Short and sweet. That's also the nickname of my penis, but that's a completely different story. The mix is short, but sweet. A few well known MoH anthems. And that's all I can say right now. Time for you to look at the tracklist, and enjoy the anthems in this mix. There's nothing more to be mentioned: don't know the DJ, so that limits the length of this review. So, did anyone say tracklist? The Viper & Nosferatu - Who We Are The Viper & Evil Activities feat MC D - The Highest Ace Tha Playah - Clockwork T-Junction & Rudeboy - Cosmic Dreamer State Of Emergency - Addiction Rudeboy & Kid Morbid feat MC Syco - Take The Power Re-Style - Keep The Vibes Alive (Korsakoff Remix) Razzle Dazzle Trax - Rattlebrain (Korsakoff Remix) Rayden - Push The Button Outblast - Bassleader (Official Bassleader Anthem) I told you it was short and sweet. 10 records in 46 and a 1/2 mix. That's all. But it should satisfy us, and fulfil our daily dosage of Hardcore. Thanks Meister Jogi for this, whoever you are. The tracks are well known, big dancefloor anthems. Why do I keep saying dancefloor? It's more like stage killers, or big arena destroyers. These anthems do destroy a lot of eardrums at big festivals. Certainly those events we cannot visit at the moment. Fuck COVID. Anyway, got nothing more to mention: good mix, good records. Best record? Well, got to give that to Tha Playah with 'Clockwork'. So catchy, so hard, and so good. Maybe one side note: the recording quality sucks slightly. And a few cross fading sections aren't spot on. Check this mix out right now! - Journey Into Sound: Mega Mash Mix 90's Edition Vol. 1 (2020)
It's Sunday. And we all love and hate Sunday. It's because Monday is just around the corner, and we have to get back to work. wherever your work might be. It's the last day of the week that you are off, and a new week is emerging. 9 to 5 is looming, and we are not happy. But we need the cash, to spend on all the lovely things we want to have. So how can we make this day even better? By taking a time machine and jump back into time. The 90s, to be precise. The Golden years of Dance music. And also the decade of cheese-fest music. Kit Hype, you might have seen or heard of him before, has made this megamix. And as you have guessed correctly, it's filled with 90s goodies. The 90s were innocent, compared to the present day music. It was all new, and exciting. And cheesy from time to time. And very basic. But those that grew up in the 90s knows the feeling the music gives you. For me personally it was the decade I developed a taster for everything music related, mainly the harder styles. Without the 90s I wouldn't be reviewing at all. The 90s also made me spend a lot of guilders on music compilations. To be honest, I do listen to a lot of internet radio since lockdown, and the 90s radio stations have been very popular in our household. I don't know what the rest of the world listens to, but you should every so often dab into the 90s Dance music. It will certainly give you a good feeling, and the trip down memory lane can be very good. So what has Kit Hype done to make this a good mix? Well, he crammed in as many 90s anthems he could find. And he's not stuck to one style or one genres. Just everything Dance music. And the mix contains 70 records. You will be in for a treat! I normally ask if you want to see the tracklist, but I know for sure you want to see the list: Intro Felix - Don't You Want Me Dr. Alban - It's My Life Robin S - Show Me Love Sunclub - Fiesta Snap! - Rhythm Is A Dancer Rozella - Everybody's Free Culture Beat - Mr. Vain 2 Unlimited - The Workaholic Kristine W - Feel What You Want ATB - 9PM (Till I Come) MC Sar & The Real McCoy - Another Night The Ultimate Seduction - The Ultimate Seduction Run DMC - It's Like That (Jason Nevins Remix) 2 Unlimited - Get Ready T99 - Anastasia Freestylers - Ruffneck Urban Cookie Collective - The Key The Secret The Ultimate Seduction - Housenation Quadrophonia - Quadrophonia 2 Unlimited - The Twilight Zone Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar Cubic 22 - Night In Motion Ice MC - It's A Rainy Day Ice MC - Think About The Way Southside Spinners - Luvstruck 2 Brothers On The 4th Floor - Dreams Livin' Joy - Dreamer Real To Reel - I Like To Move It Outhere Brothers - Boom Boom Boom LA Style - James Brown Is Dead 740 Boyz - Shimmy Shake Capella - Move On Baby Tag Team - Whoomp (There It Is) 2 Unlimited - Tribal Dance Corona - Rhythm Of The Night Robert Miles - Children Scoop - Drop It Speedy J - Pullover The Prodigy - Smack My Bitch Up T.O.F. - Funk It Up E-Type - Angels Crying Ramirez - Bomba System F - Out Of The Blue Leila K - Open Sesame Ramirez - El Galinero 2 Unlimited - No Limit Scatman John - Scatman's World Charly Lownoise & Mental Theo - Live At London The Prodigy - No Good (Start The Dance) Captain Hollywood Project - Flying High U96 - Heaven Mark 'Oh - Randy (Never Stop That Feeling) Interactive - Forever Young Captain Hollywood Project - Find Another Way Charly Lownoise & Mental Theo - Together In Wonderland Marusha - Somewhere Over The Rainbow Scooter - Move Your Ass! T-Spoon - Smiling Tokyo Ghetto Pussy - I Kiss Your Lips Dune - Hardcore Vibes Moby - Feeling So Real Critical Mass - Burnin' Love Dune - Million Miles From Home Technohead - I Wanna Be A Hippy DJ Paul Elstak - Rainbow In The Sky DJ Paul Elstak - Don't Leave Me Alone Charly Lownoise & Mental Theo - Stars 2 Brothers On The 4th Floor - There's A Key Party Animals - Have You Ever Been Mellow Oh mate, if this doesn't get anyone excited, I don't know what does. Nostalgia galore! This is exactly the kind of music I listened to when I was a wee lad. A small Dutchman. I was 7 when the 90s started, and 17 when it ended. So basically most of my teen years were in the 90s. The tracks are good. Some are bad. Come on, we have to acknowledge that some were just bad. I would still listen to them, but I wouldn't ask a DJ to play this for me. But it's nice to hear a mix containing a shit ton of records, and all in random order. That must have been a difficult task to mix together. So many great memories appeared whilst listening to this mix. And shame as well. Shame due to the fact that a few aren't played that often. My favourites are 'Drop It' by Scoop, 'Feeling So Real' by Moby, and one you wouldn't expect from me: 'Randy' by Mark 'Oh. The mix is good, but it sounds like a bit of a struggle to beat match each record. It's not completely flawless, but still highly enjoyable. I would still advice you to listen to this mix. It will enlighten your Sunday spirit, and will give you enough energy to raise your middle finger to the upcoming Monday, and say 'fuck it'. We have lived through the 90s, and we can certainly get through the upcoming week! DJ: A Journey Into Sound (a.k.a. - Abraxas - Radio 100 Amsterdam - 1994
Let me make one thing clear: I might be from the Netherlands, but I am certainly NOT from Amsterdam, like everyone thinks I am. There are more places than just A'dam, to be fair. And I lived miles away from the capitol of the Netherlands, namely Heerlen in Limburg, Probably one of the least exciting city in the whole of the Netherlands. We do not have as much as the rest of the Netherlands. OK, enough down talking of my birth place, let's talk about the mix, which is obviously focussed on something that is A'dam related. If you were alive and kicking during the 90s, you all know Flamman & Abraxas. This duo has made some classic Hardcore anthems, most known obviously being 'Drugs', 'Good To Go', 'I Need Love', 'I'll Be Your Only Friend' , and they were also known in the House/Dance scene by their other name Fierce Ruling Diva. But back in 1994 I had not heard of them before, 'Drugs' was released back in 1995. I always thought that they were both from A'dam, but Abraxas was a DJ from New York, who moved to A'dam. And back in 1994 he made this mix for Radio 100 Amsterdam, a pirate radio station I have never heard of. Again, I wasn't from the capital of the Netherlands, and pirate radio station wasn't widely available. I don't even know if he did it live on air, or he pre-recorded it. But this mix was broadcasted back in 1994 on this pirate radio station, that's for sure. The tracklist is what you should be interested in. So here it is: King Dale - Fuckface (Original Idea Mix) Bodylotion - Fuck The Remix King Dale - Utter (Reyes/Van Dale Remix) Predator - Mind Of A Lunatic The Cybernators - Funky Tales Predator - 1-2-3-4 !!! The Cybernators - Ridiculous Lyrics Lockjaw - Ruff 'N Ruggin' Bodylotion - Rock Until The End DJ Limited - Arabsession The Scotchman - Oblivion DJ Limited - Devestading The Scotchman - Gatecrash 3 Steps Ahead - Hardcore The Scotchman - Bang The Drums Lenny Dee & Darrien Kelly - Shoom! Bodylotion - Mellow Moenie Mauwe Lenny Dee & Darrien Kelly - Move It ID - ID Lenny Dee & Darrien Kelly - Speedbump Rob Gee - Eeg Bor Dr. Mindfuck - It Is He (Who Commands You) ID - ID Rob Gee - Gabber Up Your Ass Critical Mass - Psychotic Break This is a tracklist and a half! Fuck me sideways, this is good. A lot of forgotten tracks, some you will only hear once every blue Moon. But it also contained a few big anthems, and probably the worst Hardcore track ever made. I'll talk about that in a minute. Fuck it, I'll talk about it now. 'Fuckface'. I never understood the fascination about this track at all. Never. I find it the most obnoxious and most boring Hardcore track ever made. Sorry Abraxas, really don't like your first record of your set. But that's basically the only record I dislike. All the others are hard as fuck, and rough. Hardcore sounded so different back in 1994 and years prior to this. Who would expect Critical Mass to become Happy Hardcore's biggest contributor? So many things have changed after 1994, it has gone too quickly and too fast, and I hate it. Wish I could go back to 1994. Abraxas' mix was brought to my attention by magpie303, the usual place for everything Hardcore related on Soundcloud. And even though the mix starts off with the worst anthem ever, it still packs a punch. Abraxas' mix is spot on, with a lot of wicked anthems, but the mixing sometimes isn't. But that's OK, it's still 1994, so don't expect high quality mixes like DJs do nowadays. Vinyl and turntables, that's what they had back then. Still impressive though to get a mix to sound like this. I really like this mix. Worth checking out right now! And obviously it contains my favourite anthem of all time 'Mind Of A Lunatic'. Who dislikes this is an absolute arsehole! - Erotic Sentimentalism Broadcast (2020)
It's Wednesday, and I'm off. This week is my holiday week. I was going to get married to my fiancee, but then COVID came around the corner and destroyed everyone's plans. Including mine, which is obviously a bummer, especially for the wife. She has to now wait another year before she can be my wife. But hey ho, at least we have our health, and we have our jobs. And now I'm sitting here, during my 'wedding week' off. So what is it that I do during this week? Well, not get married, that's for sure. But chilling, enjoying life, and I will fire up the PS4, to release myself completely. But what else? Well, seeing as you are reading a review, listening to music. And the mix I'm listening to and you are reading about, has been on constantly since the early hours of this morning. Fusco's mix. Here's the thing. I am not sure who Fusco is, but I am following him on Soundcloud. Maybe he posted a mix once I liked, but I cannot remember me reviewing one of his mixes. But my mind could also be damaged from all those years partying. What also spiked my enthusiasm was the name of the mix. 'Erotic Sentimentalism Broadcast'. Now those are three words together you would never expect to hear. This Colombian based label is a complete mystery to me. Maybe it's because I'm not delved into a world of music and erotica. Fusco was asked to fabricate this Industrial Hardcore styled mix, and without knowing the ins and outs of the Erotic Sentimentalism Broadcast, the mix itself is bloody good. So it's time for us to glance at the tracklist, and witness all the tracks used by Fusco. Ghost In The Machine - Terminus (Original Mix) Remco Beekwilder - Rave Mood (Original Mix) Dave Delta - Its Coming Dax J & UVB - Murder Wave Cubic Nomad & Fracture 4 - Fading (Original Mix) Inhalt Der Nacht & Echoes Of October - Beutezug Somniac One - Siberian Tigot Mindustries - Death Rattle (Original Mix) The Outside Agency & Ophidian - Church Of The Silence Armageddon Project - Beat Conductor Catscan - WOIII KRTM & Tripped - F%%cking Zutsu A very big mix, if I have to say so. But it is true. Lovely Industrial Hardcore on this Wednesday morning. You will all love it. But would I consider it to be erotic? Sexy? Well, Hardcore in general does turn me on slightly, so yeah. Fusco's mix is tight. And I really enjoyed every second of it. Even though I do follow him, I cannot recollect the last time I heard anything from him. But at least I'm checking out his latest mix, and it's a good one. Solid. Good track choice. And sexy, oh yeah, sexy. I will certainly check out the other tracks and mixes he might have on his page, but for now I will keep this mix on a loop for the rest of the day. Really feeling the Industrial vibes today. There's absolutely nothing wrong with this mix. Not one single bit. All the records are wicked, especially 'Fading', and they are mixed together beautifully. Good choice to have Fusco create this mix for the Erotic Sentimentalism Broadcast. Hardcore is inevitably sexy. - TBY's Early Hardstyle Tribute To All My Fans - Summer 2013
It's my birthday, and I'm doing reviews. That's not something special, isn't it? A birthday isn't that special. What is special, is to make a mix for your loyal fans. A 100 minute long mix, filled with 21 of your biggest anthems from the early days of Hardstyle. Now that's an achievement. And a nice thing to listen to on my birthday. As you are all aware, I do love myself some early Hardstyle, and Technoboy's 2013 mix is exactly what I wanted to hear. And with amazing statistics in regards to plays, I am sure that you have already checked it out within the last 7 years. 299k plays so far, and counting. I don't know if I've come across a Hardstyle mix with nearly 300.000 plays on Soundcloud so far, especially one that's focussed on the early stuff. It has a shit ton of reactions, and people love it. Including myself, of course. Everything early is always good, be it Hardstyle or Hardcore or whatever harder style you are referring to. Hence why Technoboy's mix comes in handy. His mix contains the finest of the finest anthems. You will immediately be teleported back into the days, and you will miss this unique and refreshing sound. Such a different world Hardstyle was in back then, and if you compare it to the present day Hardstyle, they are like two different styles. It's this ongoing debate as if you like the early or the newer Hardstyle. And for me the answer is like a walk in the park; dead easy. I like the present day sound, but the early sound is what got me into Hardstyle in the first place. So my answer is obvious. So let's see what Technoboy has crammed into this dedication mix. You will smile for miles, trust me. Builders - Bad Manners (Luca Antolini DJ Mix) Tuneboy - Dirty (DJ Stardust Remix) i The KGB's - The Disco Fan (Hardstyle Girl Mix) TNT - Freakuency (Technoboy & Tuneboy Mix) Tuneboy - Sexbusters (Technoboy Remix) Technoboy - War Machine (2005 Remix) Tuneboy - Money Talks Bullshit Walks (Hardstyle Masterz Remix) The KGB's - Infinity TNT - Second Match (Original TNT Mix) Technoboy - Into Deep Builder - Her Voice (Super Bass Mix) Dark Oscillators - Nero Hardstyle Masterz feat Max Enforcer - Light Of The Dark (The Blackout Mix) Technoboy - Vita The KGB's - Fahrenheit (Technoboy Remix) The Nasty Boyz - Angel (Hardstyle Masterz Cut) The KGB's - Superdisco (Technoboy Remix) Tuneboy - Wackyjackie (Technoboy Remix) Technoboy - Rage (A Hardstyle Song) Tuneboy - I Will Grow! 2 Best Enemies - Phases (TBY Romantic Mix) Proper oldskool vibes, ladies and gentlemen! I do remember buying literally every album under the Sun, all focussed on Hardstyle. I was such a music whore back then, I absorbed everything like a sponge. And Technoboy's tunes were a nice welcome back then. He's made some wicked records, he really did. This mix has been received well by the listeners, and by TCD. I am really impressed and loving the early vibes. This takes me back to the days when Hardcore was a bit 'meh' and I needed something else to replace my love for the rougher sounds. Hardstyle it was, and still remains in my top 10 of favourite styles of all time. I can only give Technoboy credit for his amazing mix. No negative feedback, only positive. It's been mixed beautifully, and the records are top notch. But which record stands out, which one gets me going the most? The KGB's 'Fahrenheit', remixed by Technoboy. I simply adore this record since the first time I heard it back in the day. 'Rage' is also a good anthem, or 'Her Voice, but 'Fahrenheit' is simply the best. Check this mix out if you haven't already. If you love Hardstyle, you will love this mix too! - Ruffneck vs Gangsta Alliance - Ground Zero Festival 2019
Yesterday the world's largest night event would have taken place, Ground Zero, but COVID being a bitch, obviously a lot has changed. So events got postponed, and now we are waiting for the all clear to get out again and start raving through the night. The best thing we can do is reminisce, and hope that our future is looking brighter and not as bleak as it is now. We will surely prevail, and we will rave again. Maybe with the new 'standard' being the normal way of raving, but we do need to rave again. We need to get some fresh air and kick COVID to death. Fuck COVID. Looking back at last year's edition, I found a set online. One you might really fancy. A Ruffneck vs Gangsta Alliance liveset from Ground Zero. Now that's a set you would need to hear, if you haven't already. We all know and love the distinctive Ruffneck sound, and during this set you will hear a lot of those memorable and wicked tunes that made Ruffneck a household name in the Hardcore scene. A 50 minute long set, that's kind of short, but it's long enough to get our daily Hardcore fixture. One we are desperate for. So what can you expect? Are you stupid? Don't you know what Ruffneck and the Gangsta Alliance are capable of? You will hear the finest Hardcore anthems. But with a twist. Trust me though when I say that you will feel nostalgic, and want to play your older CDs again, but you are dreading it, seeing as they are covered in thousands of unrepairable scratches. So yes, you will feel happy and enlightened after. Here's the tracklist for the true Artcore fanatics! I am really curious on what the names of these songs are, but not really sure. I know the songs, but my memory always goes blank. Yes, now you've found out why I always ask for tracklists. I am shit in remembering songs. I do know the actual songs, not the titles. These 50 minutes have flown by. Fucking epic music. There's no denying that Ruffneck vs Gangsta Alliance know what they are doing, and they do bring the music to the masses. I wish I was there, at Ground Zero, hearing these anthems. That would have been great. It's one of those events I've never been to, but would really like to visit it. Maybe next year, eh? Who knows? You wouldn't expect me saying the following, but the one track that captured my attention was DJ Isaac's 'Bad Dreams'. Why? Well, because this is the first time I hear Kate Bush in the song. I knew they were her vocals, but they have always been sped up. This is the first time it goes down to Kate Bush's already high pitched level, and it's a nice addition to this track. Catchy track. A nice set. Short but sweet. With damn good anthems. Let's fucking end this Sunday with a bang. And why not let Ruffneck and Gangsta Alliance wake you the fuck up!? - Steve Dekay - Transmission Live (Home Edition) (2020)
It's Saturday, and I'm having a good day. I went to my local car dealer to have the car serviced, and whilst I had to wait, I decided to do some work on my laptop. Not very exciting so far, I fully understand that, but here comes the good bit: seeing as the service I had carried out was for me to wait until it was done, I had a few hours spare, and I decided to do some work whilst listening to music. Now that's an epic combination, especially when the music is damn good. And the set you are about to listen to is certainly that! The one thing that amazed me about Steve Dekay's set is the amount of wicked tunes he has put in it. An hour and 23 minutes of pure Trance music. All live. Sadly not recorded at the actual event, but more like we are used to nowadays: from all over the world, but not where we would like to see it. But that's OK, at least we are getting our music fix. And Steve is the right man to take me into another dimension. I was aware of his music after I purchased Rielism Volume Four, and his track 'Nyctophilia'. That track just blew me away. And now I am indulging myself into his world. And it's going to be a good one. This Colombian producer is one that you need to be aware of: he has even made it onto Paul Van Dyk's tenth studio album! Now how about that? That's something special, isn't it? To work with a Trance legend. Paul Van fucking Dyk! So let's dive straight into the tracklist, and be ready for nearly an hour and a half of pure pleasure! Nikolauss & Starpicker - Arya Steve Dekay & Vision X - Endurance (Extended Mix) Darren Porter - Spellbound (ID Remix) Steve Dekay & Emanuele Congeddu - Origami (Extended Mix) Steve Dekay & Emanuele Congeddu - Astral (Extended Mix) Steve Dekay - Sublime (Extended Mix) Allen Watts & Steve Dekay - Hologram (Extended Mix) Giuseppe Ottaviani - Colours (Extended Mix) Andrew Rayel - Dark Warrior (Chris Schweizer Extended Remix) Armin Van Buuren - In And Out Of Love vs Meteora vs Raw Deal (Mashup) BiXX - Yes I Can (Extended Mix) Steve Dekay - Labyrinth (Extended Mix) Steve Dekay & H.M.B.L. - ID Steve Dekay - Atom (Extended Mix) Th3 Drop - Drop The Bass (Extended Mix) Allen Watts & Steve Dekay - The Phuture (Extended Mix) Steve Dekay vs AvB vs Sophie Ellis Bextor - Radhe vs not Giving Up On Love (Extended Mashup 2) Steve Dekay with Cari - ID Chris Schweizer - Near The End Of A Big Sky (PHOENIX Mashup) Key 4050 vs Delerium feat Sarah McLachlan - Exposure Of Silence (PHOENIX Mashup) Paul Van Dyk & Steve Dekay - Aurora (Extended Mix) I have been pleasantly surprised by this mix. Flawless, and the tunes are bloody excellent! But one track stood out from all the others. Why you might say? Well, because it's one epic and truly astonishing tune. As good, no, even better than Nyctophilia, and that tune I really loved a LOT. If you weren't aware of Steve Dekay, you will be right now. This mix is filled with his tunes, and have I mentioned that he has made a tune with Paul Van Dyk? Righto, let's move on. The mix was live recorded, and it has been an absolute bliss. I was listening to this multiple times today, especially when I was sitting at the car dealership. No one knew what I was listening to, but I couldn't care less. Mask on, Trance on. That's my motto right now. OK, OK, you are waiting for me to answer which record was the absolute best. Well, fuck it, it has got to be 'Hologram' by Allen Watts & Steve Dekay. Truly an astonishing record. My favourite Trance record of 2020. Steve Dekay, you are a legend! I have to say that Steve has done a brilliant job, and is on the rise. Someone you will certainly need to look and listen out for. So, make sure you check out his Transmission's set, and don't wait too long, like I've done with finishing this review (it's now Sunday). - A.B Tracks Mixed By Cyrax (2020)
''Kids, let me tell you a story. The story is about a beautiful princess called A.B, who lived in a purple studio, and had a label called Stamina Records. The princess made beautiful Freeform music, and lived happily ever.'' Kind of a boring story, isn't it? Firstly, he's not a princess. He's a GOD. Secondly, he has done so much for the scene, and he goes mostly under the radar. He does have his own label called Stamina Records, and his studio is purple, but don't just brush him off as being 'another producer'. He's certainly a magician behind his studio set up. He's a legend. I wouldn't say the same about Cyrax. He's so and so. He's alright. He's rocking a nice jacket though. Just look at the picture. Isn't he a handsome bloke? Don't assume that because of his funny videos and memes he's just a fool. He's more than just a fool. He's like me, a Freeform fanatic! The most underrated music genre in the whole world, besides Monopolynesian Drum Band Bass Cannon House. But on a serious note, we know that Freeform is underrated, and I fucking hate that no one recognises it for its true potential. Only the die-hard fanatics do know its power. I simply don't get it. It's Trancey, it's hard, why isn't this on the big stage? Why are we not hearing this literally everywhere? Well, maybe the appeal is that it's still underground, and everything underground is sexy. But I wish that A.B gets the recognition for what he does. His music is so heavenly, awe inspiring, and so damn good. Don't think I'm saying that every other producer in the scene is horse shite, but come on, A.B is another league on his own. I am going to say it: he is Freeform. There, I've said it. Freeform fans, come at me, bro! The Freeform fans know what I am saying. All PLUR. I do have a lot of respect for those making Freeform. And it's good that A.B gets recognised for his awesome producing skills, be it in the Trance scene. He's such a talented producer, and I understand why Cyrax made this nearly 2 hour long mix. And the fact that he was bored. That could be a reason? Let's dive straight into the mix. No faffing around. Here are all the tracks: A.B & Solution - Naneater (HU Intro Mix) A.B - Qube A.B & Kevin Energy - Samsara A.B & Cyrax - Binary Star A.B & Finnbarr - The Cabal A.B - Shudder A.B & Douglas - WDWWW PeRCePTioN - Kill Zone (A,B's 'FFWD 2 RWD' Remix) A.B - This (Transcend & Cyrax Disco Mode Remix) Harry H & Equilibrium - Anything Is Possible (A.B's Rockstar Intro Remix) A.B vs Metrix - Feels So Good (Jakka-B Remix) A.B - Unproven Technology Kevin Energy, Sharkey & K Complex - The Baptism (A.B & Amplitude Remix) Cyrax vs A.B - Chronosphere A.B - Back From The Dead A.B - Awaken A.B vs Freedom - Bloodline A.B - Tekno1 Rikki Arkitech - Shadow Of a Memory (A.B Remix) Douglas feat Dionne - Air (A.B Remix) A,B & Amplitude - Thinking Machine (Douglas Remix) A,B - Kielo A.B & Nick235 feat Rhona - Silence A Prayer (Substanced Remix) A,B - Infatuation A.B - Carburettor Kevin Energy & A.B - Piranha A.B - Phoenix Aeternity - Solar Fields (A,B Remix) A.B & Douglas vs DJ Ned (CLSM) - Hold On A.B - Relax A.B - Crowd Geoff A.B & Amplitude - Mambo Gammer & Re-Con - Enya Stomp (A,B & Douglas Remix) Douglas - Principia Mathematica (A.B's Progressive Underground Remix) Lumina8 - Pretty Eyes (A.B Remix) A.B & Synthwulf - The Cleansing DJ Neon - Tribute (A.B Remix) A.B & Douglas - TIWWA Mooney & Ollie feat Kimberly vs A.B - Turn It Up Flame & K Complex feat Louise Davies - Allure (A,B's C.O.T. Remix) A.B vs Finnbarr - Stick Together Transcend - Domination (A.B & Synthwulf Remix) Transcend & Douglas - Massenya (A.B's Hardcore! Remix) If this doesn't give you an erection, are you even Freeform, bro? Do you even lift bro? Are you swole? Fucking hell, I don't even know what I'm saying, I'm trying to stay down with the kids, but I am certainly not in their age gap. I'm old. I have mentioned it above, but I'm going to say it again: A.B is a GOD. My God, the amount of awesome tracks, is just beyond me how he keeps making them. It's like everything he touches turns into gold. Or something else. But his studio must be super awesome, if he makes these fucking epic anthems in there constantly. No wonder Stamina Records is such a fantastic label. A.B, he is a GOD. I can talk for hours and hours about each individual track, but I won't. I have to give Cyrax some credit for making this mix. Really good effort of him to make others aware of this epic producer. And he has succeeded with this mix. It's really entertaining, and it keeps my blood pumping fast, and hard. My heart beat is equal to the BPMs of this mix. Fuck me, we need more of these mixes. We do need a 'Best Of A.B' CD. Come on people. Let's make sure it happens. The tracks are all good. No word of a lie. Some even better. But there's one that stands out above all the rest, by a mile. And it's the best ever Freeform anthem EVER: 'This' by A.B, remixed by Transcend and bloody Cyrax! And I'm not saying that because he made this mix. This is genuinely the best record I've ever heard, and I can listen to it over and over, and it still doesn't get boring. Worth checking out Stamina Records, A.B, and of course Cyrax. This mix will certainly pleasure you. It's filled with A.B, and who doesn't like a bit of A.B? - DJ Casketkrusher - Thunderdome: "The Ear Damaging Megamix" (Mix 1) (2020)
The year is 2012. DJ Casketkrusher was awake on the 8th of September, and he decided to create this new mix. Seeing as he loves his mixes, he thought he would make one focussed on probably the most recognisable label in the whole Hardcore universe: Thunderdome / ID&T. And knowing Casketkrusher, he picked the finest anthems from the early years of Thunderdome, and crammed them into a 72 minute long mix. And now, back to the present year, 2020, and our pandemic. We can't rave, we have to stay indoors, and I just felt the urge to hear a Thunderdome megamix. I have reviewed his previous second instalment mix before back in 2018, and now it's time to check out the first mix he made 8 years ago. The previously reviewed mix contained the wicked anthems, and I really loved it. I gave it 5 out of 5 stars. And now it's time to listen to the mix. The originator. The original. The first of its kind. Well, not in the Hardcore universe, but in the Casketkrusher universe. He has made plenty of mixes in his DJ career lifespan, but a Thunderdome mix always gets a lot of attention, and praises. But it all depends on if the mix is any good. I've come across the usually 'crap' mixes and mixes by DJs who didn't even make it themselves. They used an already existing Thunderdome mix and called it their own. SMH. In this 72 minute long mix you can find the finest of the finest anthems. Some forgotten. Some overhyped. Some just awesome, and some OK-ish. But what you do get is a flashback to the good days of Hardcore. The innocent years. So which anthems did Casketkrusher use for his first 'Thunderdome' megamix? Well, these: Megamix: Intro (Welcome... To Another Edition Of Thunderdome) DJ Sim - Cartoons In Progress (Original Mix) Tony Salmonelli - Hey! (Buzzy's Ragga Mix) DJ Dano - Parade Of Love El Bruto - Hypnotizing DJ Gizmo - Rescue Section 8 - Punnany (The Prophet Remix) Dance Overdose - Wake Up To The Overdose (The Marc Smith Notorious Mix) The Prophet - Warrior (Original Mix) Club X - Don't Deny The Beat Bass Generator - The Event (Can I Have A Lime Top In My Shandy Andy Mix?) Q-Tex - Equazion Part IV DJ Isaac - Bad Dreams (Remix) Tripax - What The Fuck Are You Laughing At? Jean Sibart & Joel Trambel - Right Is Wrong Charly Lownoise & Mental Theo - Ultimate Sextrack DJ Weirdo & DJ Sim - Kick This Muthaf#@ka! Wasting Program - Bring That Shit Back (DJ Buzz Fuzz Remix) Nitrogen - Bad Bwoy Ectomorph - Mindblower Hard Attack - Bonehead Marc Smith - Pump Up The Noize (Raid Mix) Bass-D & King Matthew - The Witch Bunkor Beats - This Is Wicked|! The Nerds - Are Back Body Lotion - Happy Is Voor Hobo's DJ Promo - Boomin' Out The Box Ectomorph - Totally Computerized T.N.T. - Kiss The Ground Masters Of Ceremony - Hardcore To Da Bone (Masters Of Ceremony Dope Mix) Darrien Kelly vs Attic & Stylzz - Beaten Like A Bitch! DJ E-Rick & Tactic - Rocked Da House General Noise - Hey, Mr DJ! DJ Weirdo & DJ Sim - It's Gonna be Allright! Unsatisfied Evil - Bad Creations Charly Lownoise & Mental Theo - Live At London (Hardcore Mix) Tellurian - Squash The Floor Turbolenza - I Am The Creator (Future Mix) Lady Dana, DJ Skorp & Chronotrigger - Devistading Rhythm DJ Delirium & Da Grimreaper - Speakerblower S.V.E.N. - Cranium Accelleration Mutoid - The Necronomicon (DJ Buzz Fuzz Mix) Undercover Anarchist - Kingdom (CD Version) Nightstalkers - Warehouse Beats Ramirez - Apocalixis (Placid K Remix) Renata Ricciardi - Return Of A Looney (DJ Jordens Mix) 50% Of The Dreamteam - Bullshit The Prophet - Spiral Psylocke - New Day Baba Nation - Jesus Words Megamix: Outro (Thunderdome, Then It's Your Choice) As expected Casketkrusher made it into a festive mix. No, I'm not fucking saying he has mixed all Christmassy songs or jingle bells into the mix, but he has made the mix cheerful. Reminiscing the past by hearing these anthems. And boy, they are good. Some of these records I completely forgotten about! Yes, I know, I shouldn't forget these classics, but it's not like I only listen to Thunderdome CDs 24/7. I wish I could, but I reckon it would drive me completely mad. I am not 18 anymore. There are plenty of awesome records to choose from. I cannot just pick one anthem which is my favourite one, but I had to pick a handful: 'Return Of A Looney' by Renata Ricciardi, DJ Gizmo's 'Rescue','Bullshit' by 50% Of The Dreamteam, Masters Of Ceremony's 'Hardcore To Da Bone'... I could just go on for hours. Good selection mr Casketkrusher. As good as the tracklist is, the mix itself contains a few errors, more than I am used to hear from Casketkrusher. Like, a lot more lol. And it's kind of unexpected. I know he has the skills and potential to become a very great DJ, but maybe in 2012 he was still 'learning'? It's not as smooth as I'd wished it was. He has defiantly mastered that to be fair. But as good as I wished it was, it's not perfect. A good mix nonetheless, but not Casketkrusher's finest. Still worth listening to, don't get me wrong. - A.C.R. Allstyle Core Records Podcast #111 Mixed By Emphases (2020)
It's Saturday, the weekend has landed. And let's start the weekend slightly harder and faster, eh? So, I've found a set you all might enjoy. An Early Terror set. Mixed by Emphases. I've never heard of Emphases before, nor the Allstyle Core Records podcast, but seeing as they already have reached the 111th podcast, it's time for me to indulge myself into their world. And this Early Terror is a good way to wake up on this windy and very miserable Saturday morning. So, what can I say about this mix that I haven't said already? Well, nothing much. It contains Early Terror focussed anthems, fairly new records, and it's mixed by Emphases. That's all I know so far. I do recognise a few of the names used in this mix, but to be fair, Early Terror isn't a style that crops up that often. Only once every blue Moon. And that's a rarity. But the main focus of this mix is to get you moving, and Emphases has certainly done that. You are not going to sit still when you start listening to this mix. Let's see what's in this hour long mix. Reeza - Hit The Decks Reeza - The Sanctity Of Life Not A DJ vs GiZwO - Don't Like You Rottencore - Multiverse Not A DJ - Aura Q L-Neon - Everything I Do Is Illegal Not A DJ vs Ninetysix - The Morning After Reeza - Something Like This Hellcreator & Acidious - A Galaxy Odyssey Redlock vs Immutek vs Paradox - Masterpiece Hellcreator & Acidious - Lost On Eden Redlock - Scream Ninetysix - I Could Dance Forever Enforex - Secret Of Life Redlock - Get Loud Starbanger - Defenders (Speedfolter & Xearo Remix) Hellcreator - Don't Fuck With Me Reeza - Mad Jaw Hellcreator & Tantulum - Intruder Alert The Hitman - Drop One Hyperactive D - The Age Of God Redlock - Hit It GiZwO - Covid-19 DJ Købe - Tribute To 90's (Part II) Not A DJ - The Real Psycho Reeza - Immortal Kombat I've seen a few of these names before, and I've to say that I'm really impressed. The Early Terror sound, alive and kicking in 2020. Some records do have a bit of everything, not just Early Terror, but also a bit of Artcore and Gabber. But you won't be bothered about that too much. You really shouldn't care. The BPMs are fast enough to be compared to the early sound. Emphases has made this podcast mix, and I'm really pleased to have found it. And it also underlines the capabilities of the artist Reeza. Whoever he/she is, I love their style and approach. Reeza captured the early sound flawlessly. I am impressed, and in awe with Reeza's style. The mix is tight, and I hugely recommend this to everyone who likes a bit of the early sound. Not fully Early Terror, but who gives a crap? Just worth checking out, and play it over and over. I've woken up a couple of hours ago, and already listened to this 4 times in a row. It's that intoxicating! Well, a short and sweet review. Thanks Emphases for this mix. I'll certainly check you and Allstyle Core's other podcasts too! - Exclusive Interview with M@rt!n-J - TCDReview (2020)
We are honoured to speak to one of the contributors of our website, a regular, someone who keeps on making mixes, and is an online source for everything music related. A music fanatic, and a die hard UK Hardcore fan. Someone who has got music running through his veins. Today we will speak to the one and only DJ M@rt!n-J! Hey M@rt!n-J, how are you doing, how’s life at the moment? "Hey, Yes I am doing great at the moment. Thanks for having me :) " Tell us a bit about yourself, how you started, when you started DJing, and the main question: why? "My name is Martin (you probably already guessed that!), I live in the North East of England. I collected all the Bonkers CDs around 2003/2004 and I thought I wanted to try DJing! I can't say 100% why I wanted to do it lol." Who influenced you into become a DJ? And why? "I have to say Scott Brown! The guy is a legend! He is one of my heroes in the Hardcore scene." According to your Soundcloud biography, you are a UK Hardcore/Freeform and Gabber DJ. Well, those are the main styles you focus on. Can you describe your love for each style, and why it’s so appealing to you? "For UK Hardcore i like the melodies, chords & riff's, just something about UK Hardcore that other genres do not have, When it changed from around 1999/2000 into a more Trancey style that is when I realised this is what I love! With Freeform again it's the Trance elements that I love about it. I didn't really know much about Dutch Hardcore until I started hearing Scott Brown sets (so we have him to thanks for that lol). I just love the crazy kicks they use and it can also be very melodic." If you had to choose one out of the three styles described, which one would be your favourite, and why? "I would have to say UK Hardcore, for the reasons I mentioned before." On Soundcloud we can find a lot of appreciation mixes, like the Fracus & Darwin mix, Eufeion’s mix, Stamina Records’ mix, Evolution Records, Essential Platinum, Bonkers, and the list just goes on and on. Why is that your cup of tea? And why should people check your mixes out, compared to other dedication mixes? "I love to buy music in bundles, it's much easier, I don't really like searching through Beatport, Juno or what ever as it can be very time consuming. Why listen to my mixes?...I haven't got an answer to be honest lol...check them out, you might enjoy them!" You’ve got plenty of material on Soundcloud, and I’m going to ask you a very difficult question, you might not be able to answer it, but please, be PC about this, but what’s your opinion about pineapple on pizza? Hell yes, or hell no? "HELL NO!!!" Serious though, if you had to pick three mixes, which ones would be your most favourites ones, and explain the reasoning as to why these are your best ones. "I enjoyed doing my recent Fracus & Darwin mix (Point Of No Return). I love their sound and it can be a joy to mix their productions! I like the Finnbarr mix I did, very talented guy by the way. I liked the UK Hardcore mix I did from the 2003 era, great memories!" To me, the legendary blogger (*ahum*), it is always amazing to get feedback from the reviews, and the bigger the artist, the better (obviously). Have you ever received feedback from the artists running the labels, and how has it been? "I once got great feedback from Scott Devotion, used a few of his tunes in a mix, Think I called it "Come Into My Dreams". He was very supportive and a nice guy!" Ever had negative feedback, and was it a genuine complaint? How did you deal with it? "Never, only positive complaints so far." Not only a DJ, but also a producer. You have also had a few released on a few labels. Who inspired you to produce records, and is there a specific goal you try to reach with each record? "Again Scott Brown, Hixxy, Brisk, Fracus & Darwin, Breeze & Styles, Kevin Energy....it could go on lol." What kind of equipment do you use for your mixes, and for producing? "Currently I am using Pioneer DJ SB2, For productions FL Studio." If money wasn’t an option, and you had unlimited resources, what would you buy, equipment wise, and why? What would be your ultimate DJ set up? And if money would still be widely available, and you could organise your own party (how cool would that be?), who would you have as headliners? And explain your ultimate party, would we have MCs, dancers on stage, fireworks? "If money was no object then I would probably go for Pioneer DDJ-RX or XDJ-RR if I had the space for it lol. Off the top of my head I would book Scott Brown, Brisk, Kevin Energy, A.B, Hixxy, Sy & Neophyte just to spice things up! No MC's sorry!! Dancers on stage & fireworks would be great too!" Obviously you have done a lot already, but what does the future hold for M@rt!n-J? Any upcoming projects/events, etc? "Could be something in the works such as a label of some sort!" Who is the best blogger, and tell me why he’s great? (joke question of course). "Of course the one the only Crazy Dutchman!!" I always end the interview with a ‘thank you/appreciation’ section, but before we end, a quick fire round, a few silly questions (you don’t need to answer them of course). • Favourite football team Man Utd • Favourite colour Blue • Aldi, Lidl, or Asda? Asda • UK Hardcore, early, Millennium, or after? UK Hardcore • Favourite DJ / producer ever Scott Brown, I also used to like Gammer! • iOS or Android? Android! • Love or Hate the Teletubbies Hate • Feet, sexy or not? ??? OK, here’s the bit where you can say ‘thank you’ to anyone you want. Anyone that might have inspired you, or you are just grateful of. The mic is yours! "I would like to thank FunDaBounce for being a really nice guy!!" I would like to say a massive thank you to M@rt!n-J for this interview. The man has been on my radar for a few years now, and I have reviewed most of his mixes. To give you a taster of what he's got to offer to the Freeform, UK Hardcore and Gabber fans out there, he's three of the mixes he has mentioned before, to showcase his skills and dedication. Make sure you search for him on Social Media, to be updated whenever he uploads new mixes: M@rt!n-J - Facebook Page M@rt!n-J - Soundcloud Page M@rt!n-J - Discogs Page Thanks for this insightful interview, and keep on raving safely!
- XLR8R Podcast 488: Goldie (2017)
It's Sunday morning, not as hot as last week, the world is damp, and covered in fruit flies. It's dark, grey, and really cool. And I'm loving it. Well, not the flies, I can't stand them. But besides that, the unbearable heat from last week was too much. I'm sitting here, enjoying the cool weather. But it does get dark earlier, doesn't it? To match the world outside of our windows, let's play something nice, relaxing, cool, and dark (from time to time). And if you haven't guessed who made this mix by just looking at the image above or the actual title of this review... it's a Goldie mix. So you know immediately that it's going to be great. No, more epic. Yes, epic is the word I'm looking for. Goldie is an all-time Drum & Bass legend, and with the label Metalheadz have set the bar way up high for everyone. Quality over quantity. But it has come to fruition. Both the label and the artist have become a house hold name in the scene, linked to quality music, and excellent mixes. An interesting character this Goldie is, and if you've seen the few documentaties out there, or even read his biography (like I have), you know there's more to the man than meets the eye. But we can say one thing: he knows how to deliver. And I'm not talking about him delivering food, like Uber Eats or Deliveroo. I'm obviously talking about music. This man is gifted. A pioneer. We can think of many words to describe the man, but it's the legacy that he needs to maintain, which started back in the 90s. Not someone to fuck about with. Someone with a huge passion for Drum & Bass. He might not have been the originator of the style, but his influence in the scene has been tremendous, to say the least. So three years ago he made this mix for XLR8R. With nearly 30k plays, it's a well received mix. A lot of positive comments were written underneath the mix, and only today I discovered this mix. I do every so often just search the internet for anything Goldie related, so when I came across this mix, I just had to share it with those who haven't heard it yet. It's a banger. Trust me. Goldie - Prism Artificial Intelligence feat Dawn Wall - Fallen Calibre - Archive Artificial Intelligence - Justify (Philth Tangent Remix) Lenzman feat DRS - Just Can't Take Ivy Lab & Hydro feat Frank Carter III & Lucy Annika - Make It Clear Dub Phizix - Rotate Lenzman feat Steo - Golden Age Rufige Kru - Sometime_Sad_Day Mako, DLR, Villem & Ant TC2 - Hungry For Atmosphere Lenzman - Empty Promise Doc Scott - Far Away (2015 Remaster) Lenzman & FD - Joanie's Theme Goldie vs Ulterior Motive - I Adore You (Total Science Remix) I don't know why, but this kind of music suits the dreary outside world. But at the same time it lifts me up into another dimension. You either love it or hate it. You are or a massive Drum & Bass fan, or you hate it. And if you hate it, why are you still reading this? Go away, right now! I agree that this is yet another amazing Goldie mix. Seriously, someone, if you know of a shit Goldie mix, please comment below. But I've never come across a shit mix, made by the pioneer himself! It's like he gives every single mix 2000%. Sometimes artists do upload a mix which might sound boring or filled with errors, but not with Goldie. He always delivers. And with this XLR8R mix he proves to us all why he's an all-time legend. I've really enjoyed this set, and loved the calmness surrounding it. For those untrained ears who think Drum and Bass is just noise, it is certainly not 'just noise'. Every kick, every beat, every bass drum has a feeling in it. You need to capture it, open up to it. And certainly enjoy it. Close your eyes, and let Goldie take you on a magical journey! Which record is the best? It's the last of this mix. Why? Because I love the vocals. Whoever the vocalist is, your voice is that of an angel! I adore the one who sings 'I Adore You'. Truly breathtakingly gorgeous vocals. Another stunning mix. 3 years old, still fresh as if it was made yesterday. - Bonzai: The Classics Megamix (2019)
Imagine, it's the early 90s, music was changing, and Hardcore music was new, refreshing, and still developing. Within this newly formed sound, a lot of experimental sounds are created. It was not clear which direction it was heading to, but then there it was: Bonzai Records. The mighty label from Belgium. Among all the labels that emerged during the early years, this specific label has certainly left a mark on the scene. It became the go-to label for excellent music, not only Rave music, but also Trance music. Fast forward to 2019, a year before COVID-19 happened and fucked up right up. Jason S, the megamix master, decided to make this rather exquisite mix. Focussed on what, you might ask. Well, if that's not clear, I do need to ask you to go back to school. I am talking about Bonzai Records of course. He says that the mix contains a lot of Bonzai classic masterpieces, and he's certainly not lying. This label has released so many great, certainly memorable anthems. It's as much part of the raving scene as labels such as ID&T, Rotterdam Records, Masters Of Hardcore, Pengo, K.N.O.R. Records, Mokum Records, Master Maximum Records, Rave Records, Neophyte Records, 2B Free Records, and more. Bonzai certainly is part of this rich culture that we have. But you might be wondering how many tracks Jason S has selected for this mix? 100? 200? 300? Well, no. Only 46 records + an intro. And no 'crazy' edits. He let the music speak for itself, and the result is an amazing mix. A megamix, sure, but one that will stay in your head for so long, and for once you do hear each individual record, and you recognise each and every one of them. Looking at the tracklist, you wouldn't believe that these tracks were released between 1992 and 1995! And how fucking epic they truly are. Bonzai, we salute you! And so Jason S, for making yet another stunning megamix (does he actually ever stop?)... Jason S - Intro: It's Time To Go Back Mental Planet - Annihilating Rhythm (DJ Fly Mix) DJ Bountyhunter - Bountyhunter Cherry Moon Trax - Conflication Yves Deruyter - Calling Earth DJ Looney Tune - Beatbox (Tick Mix) DJ Bountyhunter - Urban Feelings Aqua Contact - La Sirena Repulsive 2 - Recactussed Yves Deruyter - Rave City (Cherry Mix) Cherry Moon Trax - Let There Be House Traxcalibur - The Dreamer Dreamland - Mind Penetration Zone 1 - Zebra Crossing Aqua Contact - Cinderella Techno Junkies - Entropy Step Cherry Moon Trax - The House Of House Phrenetic System - Wayfarer Mooneyes - Twilight Creatures Trancial-X-Tion - Dead Bodies (Remix) Belgica Wave Party - The Wave Yves Deruyter - ... Dream Your Dream - Mayday Dream If this isn't porn for you, then I don't know what you are into. This is truly an amazing mix, and it has probably the biggest Hardcore anthem of an entire generation. 'The First Rebirth', anyone? Jason S, you are again a super hero! This mix is truly astonishing. I never really realised how many anthems Bonzai Records released over the years. I am fully aware that Bonzai played a humongous part in the Trance scene, but in the Hardcore scene their impact has been equally as great. Don't underestimate the Belgians when it comes to great music. You can tell that they were going to be Trance masters. Every Hardcore track has got this distinctive sound to it. Hardcore and Trance combined. And it works beautifully. Sometimes it sounds happy, but when you need to rave hard, the Belgians know how to please the ravers. There are simply too many great anthems in here. Too many to absorb. But everyone assumes that I would pick the biggest record of Bonzai's history: but you are oh so wrong! It's their second instalment I truly adore more! 'The Second Rebirth' just brings everything together. And yes, it sounds so happy, but that heavenly bit just takes me into another dimension. But you might disagree with my opinion and choose a completely different anthem. The choice is yours. You've got 46 records to choose from. But please, do acknowledge the importance of Bonzai Records, and the importance of the great work Jason S is doing! - Partyraiser Millennium Hardcore Set @ Ghosttown 2014
Don't you sometimes wake up, and want to hear a specific sound or style? Well, it's too early to listen to Christmas music, so I had to take the next best thing: Millennium Hardcore. The style that I grew up with, and absolutely adored. As many of you will know, after nearly 10 years of reviewing, I do love me a bit of early and Millennium Hardcore. I grew up with it, and still love it. Many have moved on to the present day Hardcore, but I just stick with the early and 2000 sound. Can't believe it's already so many years old! Time flies when you are experiencing COVID-19, right? So, the next set I am about to share with you all is focussed on the Millennium sound. The 2000s, if you are too young to have remembered it. The years where we were wondering what the internet was going to bring. 20 years later the internet has become our lives, and has dominated literally everything. But thanks to the internet I am able to speak to you right now, and I can listen to excellent music every single day, without going to the shop, and having to buy albums. Not saying that I don't buy stuff, but you know what I mean. Instant music access, that's what's cool. Partyraiser does not need an introduction. He's well known in the Hardcore scene, mainly for his love and dedication to everything rough and tough. And you get exactly that during his 2014 set at Ghosttown. This Dungeon of Delusion had a lot in store, but so did the Partyraiser. All Millennium Hardcore anthems. From the most well known anthems to the obscure, hard, and incredibly tough anthems. That's what made this set so damn good, and well listened on Soundcloud. Now you are curious on what he has played? Here's the tracklist: Promo - Up Yours! Rexanthony - Gocoke D-Passion - Fuck The Free World Placid K - G Member Paul Elstak vs Tommyknocker - Danger Danger (Tommyknocker Mix) Meagashira - End Of Line G-Town Madness vs The Viper - Buck 'Em Down Tommyknocker - T-2002 Promo & DJ X-ess - Vicious Circle DJ Jappo & Lancinhouse - Exlxaxl (Neophyte & Evil Activities Remix) DJ Promo - Phreak Ya Speaka Tieum - Bitch Sexuality DJ Vince & DJ Zany - More Bazz E-Noid - Liquid Super D T-Factor - The Hardest Promo & Digital Boy - Serious Damage Fly By Wire - Alkaline 3dh (Catscan Remix) Partyraiser & Scrape Face - Dancing On Your Grave Vince & DJ Promo - Lyin' Through Your Teeth Radium vs Tieum - Goodbye ET Unexist - Liberate DJ Mad Dog & Noize Suppressor - Lost S.T.F.Y. DJ Nosferatu - The Desolate One Promo - Different breed Of Men (Meccano Twins Remix) Partyraiser & Triax - Assassins Scan 7 - You Have The Right (D-Passion Remix) Tieum - Dog Mixing Disco 2 DJ Nosferatu - The Prayer Neophyte - Recession (Hier En Daar Wat Opgekalefaterd Door The Relic) Noize Suppressor - Fingherz Angerfist - The Fast Lane Lenny Dee & Radium - Who's Next? SRB - Technical Malfunction Now to be fair, I've listened to this mix today more than humanly possible. That's because I had friends over, and I couldn't finish it. So I've had this on repeat constantly. So the stats might have gone up today, and that's just because of me. Couldn't care less if my friends liked it or not, I liked it. And that's all that matters. Normally, when I think of Millennium Hardcore, I think of the more melodic and euphoric side of Hardcore. Partyraiser did use a few of those anthems, but the majority of the anthems were fucking brutal. Hard as nails, that man is. And it gives the audience a wide variety of records in this hour and 26 minute mix. It goes from OK to hard very early in the mix, but yeah, we did also like our records slightly harder around the Millennium. Which records made my ears bleed the most? I have to say that it's Nosferatu's 'The Desolate One'. Simple, but yet truthfully effective. This gets any dancefloor to be blown into smithereens! I really liked this set, and hopefully you do to. Enjoy Partyraiser during his 2014 set of Ghosttown, as much as I have. More of this Millennium sound please!!! - Amaretto - Piano Hardcore Mix 0804 (2020)
Sunday should be a chill day, and to be fair, the weather is really good . A heat wave is happening all over the globe, and people are enjoying the heat. I am not. I hate the heat, I do love the cold temperature. Rain and cold? Yep, that's me. Hence why I am sitting indoors, next to a very expensive and noisy fan, just to stay out of the sun. And whilst doing that, I'm sitting here, enjoying the Breakbeat Hardcore tunes coming through my speakers. Life is great, yeah? The temperatures might be hot, but so is the music. We don't hear that style too often. But when we do, it's always great. And the good thing is, that it's music we all like. No one really dislikes it, right? Breakbeat Hardcore is sadly underrated, but oh so good. Piano anyone? If Mozart would have been alive right now, he would have been listening to Breakbeat Hardcore, trust me. The mix you are about to listen to, was made by Amaretto. I thought that this was an Italian drink of sorts, but it turns out it's a DJ. And due to COVID he couldn't play his set on the 2nd of August, at wherever the above location is (you can see it on the flyer). I am guessing Japan? But he made a mix to commemorate this uncertain and weird period in all of our lives, and to demonstrate his love for Breakbeat Hardcore. The tunes, are you ready for the tracklist? If you love Breakbeat, you will smile from ear to ear, seeing these names... Liquid Crystal - Radiate Luna-C - The Beats Shock Ramos & Supreme - Crowd Control X-Plode - Shock Out Innercore - M.O.T.O.S. Acen - Thrilla (Part 1) Ionosphere - Magic Piano Innercore feat Lilliana - Chequered Floor J.D.S. - Higher Love (Pete Cannon Remix) Wislov - Too Much Coffee Try Unity - True Desire Paul Bradley - Slip Stream Luna-C & Lowercase - Paino In Session Gold Soundz - I.Y.L.M. Amaretto - Don't Deal With Me NP Source - TCA DJ Deluxe - Pow! Jack In Box vs Fracus - Back To The Start (Breakbeat Mix) The music is good. What would you expect? It's bloody Breakbeat Hardcore. And I think the only reason I came across this mix, is because of my Greek friend, who keeps on reposting everything Breakbeat related. Otherwise I would have missed this awesome mix. Thanks Gl0wkid for this mix. Anyway, Amaretto. Not just a drink, but also a DJ. And this mix is really something special. I've really enjoyed this set a lot, and I do mean it. I've been listening to this mix over and over again over the last few hours, and it has literally been on my mind. The music is good, and the mixing is also spot on. Only credit for this DJ. Really enjoyed this mix. We need more of this. Now comes the easiest thing for me, the best track of this mix. And it has to be 'Crowd Control', an all time classic. Big anthem. So what are you waiting for? Go and check this mix out right NOW!
